My husband and I are really liked the museum. The history of the people of Israel is well revealed. I would certainly be better acquainted with the culture and traditions. I want to mark the souvenir shop especially, there you can buy things that are usually available only in online stores.

Wow! What a unique building. Amazing architecture. You really get a sense of being lost and emptiness. There’s no much light coming in and the walls are cold from concrete. There’s a room called the void - weird but remarkable as art. Really a place worth seeing when in Berlin!

It is possible to understand the Jewish Holocaust. You will also feel it. One of the largest Jewish museums in Europe. Do not rush to travel. Stand in front of every work and think long. History lovers must visit it.

Considering the place is free to visit, it worths. The building has an amazing architecture. It spans across 3 floors. Lifts are also available. The staff are polite and helpful. At the entrance , you should take the ticket(which is free). There are free cloak rooms available to keep the jacket and bags(it's not allowed inside). You can see some video shows, artifacts, paintings and so on. Also can read some history. Theres a Hebrew language section where you can write your name in English and see how it is displayed in Hebrew. I would say, its unique architecture is mind-blowing. People who are really interested in history and architecture should visit this place. Not an ideal place for kids. Eatery is available but with limited options.

One of the best museums in all Berlin. The entrance is free, you just have to make the free ticket, and the place in general is very peculiar, interesting and well made. It creates a unique atmosphere and it is able to teach you something new. Plus point: the bathrooms are gender-free. I recommend spending in the museum at least three hours if you really want to see and experience all of it. It’s great for young kids too, since in this way they are able to learn something important such as the Holocaust.

Very powerful experience. The building alone, the spaces and voids it creates, are worth the time spent contemplating them and the horrors we can't allow ourselves to forget.

Fantastically designed museum that captures the history of the Jewish population across the times in Germany. The installations are very modern and detailed. You can expect to learn about the complete history of Jews in Germany from Jews of the Worms all the way to the present day. The building itself is spectacularly designed to reflect Jewish history in Germany. There is also plenty of information about the design of the building so that people (like me who can't comprehend design concepts) can fully appreciate all the work that went into its construction. The temporary exhibits are also worth catching!!

Very interesting place of Jewish history, naturally with a big emphasis on the holocaust. Terrifying facts about how humanity is capable of straying from the path of compassion and dignity with unbearable consequences. The entrance was free which makes very good sense considering the importance of remembering the atrocities of the past in an increasingly ignorant future.

(Translated by Google) There is no second one, that's for sure. Architecture and structure are worth seeing. You shouldn't be put off by the security gate in the entrance area. Everything that is "Jewish" in any way is specially protected. But that's all, anyone who has no evil plans is welcome to look at almost two thousand years of German-Jewish history. Please do not come with all your purchases and / or luggage; there is of course a free cloakroom, but space is limited, especially on rainy days when umbrellas take up a lot of space. Jackets and coats as well as all kinds of backpacks and large bags must also be handed in. The museum staff are all security cleared and will never search your private belongings or even steal from you. Please have a minimum of trust, because these same employees with the red scarves will escort you to the emergency exits in an emergency and lead you safely outside! Refrain from criticizing the museum's security concept if you have no idea. The exhibition is located in the new building, a large, zinc-clad monster on 4 floors including the art installation "Fallen Leaves" by Menasche Kadishman. Take enough time for the entire museum, because in the old building, the newly built college building from the Berlin Baroque, are the rooms for the special exhibition, if there is one. Accompanying audio equipment can be purchased for € 3 at the cash desk, but you have to leave a personal document as a deposit with the security-checked employees; this protects the museum against theft of the devices (don't worry, other museums do the same!). It is possible to have something to eat in Café Schmus in the museum, but the prices are relatively high. Just ask the staff about inexpensive alternatives nearby and you'll be better off than queuing in the narrow aisle of the café. As a visitor, you can of course at any time direct your questions about the museum to the red-wired employees of the museum (they all have a school-leaving certificate and speak several languages ...). Have a nice stay. But note: the Jewish Museum Berlin is NOT a Holocaust Museum! Should you expect an exhibition à la Schindler's List, you can save your money and your indignation about it and go to the Natural History Museum.

A deeply engaging full immersion in perhaps the hardest history to tell about, the Jewish Museum in Berlin offers the unique experience to feel what had really happened to the Jews in Germany throughout time. The key factors of this museums are the following: there are few symbolic items on display; these items are displayed in a way that they become like “bullet points” of a long story; around the items, their story is written in a poignant way; finally, the ambiance is designed in a way that it offers to the visitor a “feeling”. And this feeling, the visitor takes home with him. By the powerful mixture of gestures and emotions, the visitor becomes the “human extension” of the museum. I hope I have clearly described the reasons why this is THE unmissable museum in Berlin; not only that; this place may set a new standard on how museums should be planned and designed in the future.

I went to this museum in the morning so it is wasn't to crowded it was very beautiful so many different ways of showing Jewish culture and history and it was completely free the only thing you had to do was book a slot. It was very educational and I would recommend it to anyone.

This museum deals with the full history of the Jews in Germany culminating in the horror of the Holocaust/Shoah. It takes a very different approach compared to most linear histories. There are areas to reflect upon what has been presented to you and areas where all is "in your face". As meaningful as the Memorial to the Murdered and really worth a visit.

Tremendously rich Museum with unusual Features Such as The listening booths where you can hear Jewish synagogue services sung buy a wide variety of cantors you can choose. Entrance is free at least on the weekends but there is a pretty long wait especially if you have larger handbags, backpacks or umbrellas which need to be checked.

I have been here before and really enjoyed what they had on display. This trip however the main exhibition was closed and we still had to pay the full price. Although it said on the sign main exhibition closed I expected it to be a section not the whole thing... Why even be open if you have nothing on display except middle eastern pictures.

Definitely a smaller museum I felt like. But definitely worth the visit. Most exhibits were designed to make you reflect and have a better understanding of the void of Jewish people Germany has. If you're ever in Berlin, I highly recommend visiting this museum and reflecting on this part of Jewish peoples in German history

Edit warning: This recommendation was written a while ago, and the full exhibition is now open, so please refer to more recent reviews. This is a must-see when in Berlin, and if interested in Germany's recent history. However, be warned, it's not the usual exhibition as it is being rearranged and an additional children's museum is being set up just over the road. The Libeskind building and art installations inside and around it are still worth seeing though.

The Jewish Museum Berlin (Jüdisches Museum Berlin) was opened in 2001 and is the largest Jewish museum in Europe. It consists of three buildings, two of which are new additions specifically built for the museum by architect Daniel Libeskind. German-Jewish history is documented in the collections, the library and the archive, and is reflected in the museum's program of events. The museum is one of Germany's most frequented museums (more than 10.8 million visitors between 2001 and 2016).

I think I missed half the museum because many pictures in other reviews, I never saw. That or the entire layout had changed within the last year. A bit too modern for my taste, I feel a lot of work of recent artists overshadowed actually speaking on Jewish history. IMHO, spend the funds on sharing stories instead of a giant concrete structure or rooms filled with colorful chains.

One of the best museum experiences I've had. Does a great job of telling the story of the Jewish people from start to current. Libskind does an amazing job with the built environment too. The Jewish Museum Berlin is a must visit and should be a must reason to even visit Berlin. While there is an admission fee the audio guide is free if you download the app. We spent over 2 hours visiting this museum and still did not fully experience all there is to offer. The building's architecture is a very critical part of the experience and the emotion one feels throughout the visit. Whether you begin or end your visit one must enjoy the café.

There were some very powerful art installations which really stuck with me. Some of the art installations felt a bit too arty to understand what they were trying to communicate. For example a nearly naked man drumming in a deep hole then on a glass stage lifted by a crane high up. If you're an artist who likes highly conceptualised art then I think you might like it. I was amazed how much there was to see. We read most plaques and it took about 1.5 hours. Maybe I didn't see it in the museum but it would've been nice to hear accounts of Jews from the war aswell as a lesson for every culture on how it can avoid repeating the tragedy of the Holocaust.

This museum was very large. Some rooms were solely dedicated to remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust, mostly through abstract structures made of concrete, whereas others also focused on Jewish culture, religion, music, and so on, using a variety of styles (e.g. film, interactive stations, art, documents…). I think it can be a great opportunity to engage with the Jewish culture, especially if you share in it. For me personally, however, I think the alternation between memorials and interactive “play” kind of undermined the memorial thought. It was also so large, that by the end of it you were kind of inattentive and simply strolling through it on your way to the exit. What is more, the abstract ways of remembering the atrocities did not touch me as much as some other memorial museums, although it was certainly unique and impressive. Some personnel was very friendly, some not so much. It was free of charge, though, which was very nice.

(Translated by Google) I don't know of a building that is as uncomfortable and disgusting as this one. However, the strange feeling that this viewer feels is that this architecture (museum) had to convey most. The Holocaust event of World War II is, of course, the most shameful act of mankind. This building as its museum eloquently makes us experience its misery. The architecture, shot by Daniel Libeskind at an international competition, has successfully embodied its social meaning. The architectural composition such as exhibits and sharp blades and the icon of the opening that is not only unreasonable but also piercing makes you feel that strangeness at a glance. However, in reality, psychological anxiety is created by letting you experience the slight shifts and instability of the five senses such as vision and sense of balance without knowing them. It's amazing. In addition, the exhibition route inside is very complicated and you will soon get lost, which makes you more anxious. However, if you look closely, the sign of the arrow pointing the way is written on the floor like a sentence of words. When you notice it, you can go back to where you were. And some parts of the building are lit from heaven with Gothic church-like scales. It feels like hope for something and I feel like I am saved. It reminds me of the end of Goethe's Faust. In 2020, I reminded me of this building again while the world was facing Corona. You should see light someday. PS. It's certainly safer to visit the museum when you're feeling well...

Nice museum dedicated to the horrors suffered by the Jewish community in Berlin and abroad. Lots of detailed information and exhibits are masterfully displayed throughout the museum. The main exhibit is currently closed for renovations but there is a special exhibit called "Welcome to Jerusalem" that is about the history of Jerusalem. It is a complicated history and this exhibit is very well put together and has a lot to offer to explain its ancient history right up to the modern day. Even though all you can see is this exhibit it is still well worth the visit.

It is really a place worth visiting. The museum turns Judeo-German history into a sensory experience, asks new questions and stimulates reflection with great symbolic charge. The author sought to highlight the feelings of emptiness and absence. Without a doubt he succeeded with me, he really left me very shocked. The garden has no way of escape, symbolizing exile a form of prison without doors. It is good, but it has one disadvantage, because apparently many have newly designed exhibitions. A week ago I was in the Nussbaum House in Osnabrück. It is very intense and there are no resting points to pause and exit points to break off the march through the exhibition. I should also use the audio guide to immerse myself in them. It is not self-explanatory. That bothers me. In addition, it bothers me that I / the visitor have to plan at least 3 - 5 hours for the visit if they halfway want to visit the exhibition in full. The exhibition is not suitable for people who want to read more than hear or see. Too bad. (Original) Immer wieder gut. Wow. I read online that it takes about an hour and in some reviews it said something about a limited selection of art being the only thing to view (other than the building itself). Well: I visited in August and the current exposée was nigh in complete (some pieces were still delayed because of COVID). I think the reviews complaining about the price and the limited pieces stem from the time before COVID. Anyway: step one, make a reservation beforehand. The first available slot was three days away when I first looked. I also saw some elderly tourists get denied access because they hadn’t booked anything (pretty sad sight). Step 2: I forgot to take photos because it was so much. I just didn’t think about it. The whole three floors are a balance between education, interactive discovery and active research. It truly is genius. If only other museums would copy this method of construction their exhibitions. Step 3: start up top. It gives you a good basic knowledge about Jewish heritage and their way of life. It makes it easy to start living the terror ahead. Step 4: the way down. This exhibition is not literally ‘shocking’ in the basic sense of the word, it’s unnerving, but even more so as you make it to the basement level, where the architecture starts messing with you. We ended up staying 3,5 hours.

From the Check Point Charlie, if you go south, you will find the Jewish Museum Berlin, that is the largest Jewish museum in Europe. The museum is built in a deconstructivist style, infact the zigzag can resemble an open Star of David. It doesn't have an entrance from the street, it is accessible only by an underground passage from the old baroque building the formerly housed the Berlin Museum, this was made to show how much the German and Jewish histories are bonded. The building is covered in zinc with random thin windows that remind of wounds. When you get inside, you can follow three axes, that simbolize the destiny of the Jews: the first, the Holocaust leads to an empty concrete Tower, the second, the Exile leads to a garden with 49 columns (48 the year of foundation of Israel + 1dedicated to Berlin) and the third, the continuity brings to the museum.

  • 5/5 Mehran h. 5 years ago on Google

  • 4/5 VeeR V. 4 years ago on Google
More than a typical exposition museum, the building gives you the experience of the history that tells. The feelings you go through while you go from a room to another. The meanings of the space that the architect tries to reach you, plus the results of your own experience in there. Don't miss it if you are an architecture and history lover.

A very interesting approach to go very limited with things to look at but rather allow you to feel and connect on different levels. Really like how out of place one felt when migrating and how easy it was to loose you footing; how quickly one felt insecure. Didn't like the %age stuff too much as the numbers do need more context to have meaning than what was given. Still, very impressive and we'll worth the visit.

By far one of the best museum I've ever visited. Every room you enter brings more enlightenment of how Jewish people have suffered in the past. Alongside this it also shows how they've overcome adversity, stay strong, keep their faith and is educational in the sense of Jewish culture. The museum itself is also a joy, you have to see it to truly understand it. Highly recommend visiting and set aside a whole day as it will take the whole day to take everything in.

By far the most impressive museum I've ever been to. Through architecture, the museum has managed to encapsulate and relay feelings that most of us 21st century people will never experience. In moments the museum took our words away, allowing us to fully feel the message and feel connected to those who came before us. The museum is free to enter, located conveniently close to public transport and is definitely worth a visit for every who wants to get in touch with the people history talks about.

I didn't know what I would expect in a Jewish museum other than events that has happened in WW2. It was surprisingly a very depressing and educating experience. I would recommend my friends to come to the museum.

Those who like arts, they will find it stupendous. I am not that great fan of arts. Still liked the concept though!

This museum can bring a lot of thoughts and emotions to someone. They had some interacting things you can do / play if you wanted too. The museum was filled with paintings, movies, sculptures, and antiques. There are 3 floors to get through we started from floor 3 and went down. There is coat check that is mandatory and free. There is also a cafe and many restrooms on each floor. We did not see a souvenir shop. I suggest buy a ticket ahead of time to not stand in a long line.

Great permanent and temporary exhibitions: widely informed, interactive, excellent curatorial work. The facilities are modern and delightful on their own.

Good overview of Jewish people living in Germany through the ages. Light on Holocaust history though still well done and worth a visit. Very good art collection. Bonus is the garden and free comfy garden chairs. And free phone charger. Very well thought out museum pretty much a must see on a visit to Berlin.

An important thing to see, it was interesting that it had so much focus about learning about the Jewish religion (not just solely focused on the Holocaust), which is important. The Room of Lose (probably got the name wrong) is very powerful.

Impressive architecture that mirrors the story of Jews in Germany. Great museum experience!
