Amazing step back in time to the darker days of the twentieth century. Well presented and explained. Offices really well preserved. It's very important that the younger generations understand their freedoms and don't forget the past. The museum helped my 19 year old son understand the politics of the time and how we got where we are now. A must visit site whilst in Berlin.

Very interesting museum capturing a very dark time in Germany's history. Fascinating to see the furnished offices, and the multitude of spy gadgetry. Also, appreciated that everything is written in both German and English so no real need for a guide. [Unfortunately, I thought I needed one and through Get Your Guide, I paid an astronomical amount of money for a 3-hour private tour which proved to be totally unnecessary.]This is not the fault of the Stasi Museum or my guide who was hired by the company but it did make me realize I had been conned into forking over a good deal of money for something I was more than capable of doing by myself.

Really great Museum which is very well preserved. The Minister’s rooms are fascinating to see and the history of the events around this era are very well explained. There is a lot of text. I think the audioguide is probably a good idea because it’s very small and can be difficult to read when crowded.

Hochspannend Und sehr informativ.

My wife and I visited the Stasi Museum during our few-day visit to Berlin. The museum is at the headquarters of the Secret Service. The building has remained exactly as it was before 1990. The visitor can see the furniture and other equipment from that time. He can also see various covert tracking devices and files on agents and suspects. Excellent.

An epicenter of German smugness and hypocrisy - small-minded and accurate. What looks here today partly like an exhibition from a children's gadget museum from the 80s and 90s was once state of the art espionage equipment. Secret cameras in the belt, in the lipstick and in the birdhouse. You name it. But the methods of this institution were less outdated. You can also learn long-forgotten or never-heard German words here, such as: social danger, class hatred, odor differentiation, canned smells or even the anti-imperialist protective wall. very interesting museum not only for history buffs.

A museum with things exhibited with their most extreme details. Describes a lot about the secret police, espionage and covert operations during the time of DDR (GDR) during a time when Germany was divided. A lot of declassified files and objects have also been kept in the museum.

I’m not sure exactly how to rate this museum. I learn a lot and it was both informative and entertaining (I’m a morbid way) but I think it could be done better. The flow through the building wasn’t in any proper order and it was a bit confusing. However, i still highly recommend a visit.

I found this museum engrossing. Spent near 3 hours at it and it would have been longer but for closing time. The building itself is an exhibit in its own story. There's a lot to read (personally I really like that) and a lot to see. There are audio guides as well, although I didn't use one. This museum is not a gentle place to visit. It explores how one abusive regime replaced another; it explores the worst ways a State can operate against its own citizens. And for this reason it is important.

The Stasi Museum (also known in German as the Forschungs- und Gedenkstätte Normannenstraße)is a research and memorial centre concerning the political system of the former East Germany. It is located in the Lichtenberg locality of Berlin, in the former headquarters of the Stasi (officially the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit), on Ruschestraße, near Frankfurter Allee and U-Bahn station Magdalenenstraße. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the office and working quarters of the former Minister of State Security–head of the Stasi – Erich Mielke. The museum is operated by the Antistalinistische Aktion Berlin-Normannenstraße (ASTAK),which was founded by civil rights in Berlin in 1990.It aims to foster the development of the museum as a "centre for the collection, preservation, documentation, rehabilitation and exhibition of evidence and research materials relating to East Germany". In 2010 the German government announced its intention to take over the Stasi Museum, which led to a three-way dispute between ASTAK, local government in Lichtenberg, and the German national government over the future of the site.ASTAK subsequently announced that Building 1 of the Stasi headquarters, the museum's original location, would be reconstructed and renovated, and the museum would be temporarily moved to Building 22. The museum has approximately 100,000 visitors per year.

An absolute must see. Fantastic and fascinating museum. Recommended the audio guide which is very detailed. Text on the boards is a little small so those with vision impairments may need to stand closer. Give yourself 2-3 hours if you want to read, watch, and listen to everything.

This museum really showcases what was happening under Stasi rule in an educated manner. It's extremely informative and I spent almost 4 hours thoroughly enjoying the time. There is a small cafe on the third floor to get some refreshments. Definitely get the audio tour which brings much more information to life. Original furniture and gadgets.

you cannot leave Berlin without visiting this very interesting museum. the museum is located in the original Stasi building, with original rooms and furniture. I advise you not to visit it without the audio guide (only two euros, with the possibility of connecting your earphones) you will need an hour and a half to see, photograph and listen to the whole story.

A very interesting museum about the functioning of Ministry of State security before the unification of Germany. The building was occupied by the protesters and converted into the museum. It shows how the state security department functioned and tools used by them. Gives great insight.

Interesting to hear and see all the pervasive methods of surveillance used by MfS, and crazy to think it all kept on happening all the way into the 80s. A great collection and well worth a visit.

Don’t miss this museum. You literally walk into the past of the Stasi buildings. The scent of the 60ies and seventies. Takes about 2 hours minimum, but worth every penny. Must see!

Sad story of course but very interesting, many things are surprisingly evil spreading conflict, dissatisfaction, depression against political enemies. The office is frugal, the privileges held by those people are not visible. I think there is much more to see, to better understand how information was organised in the pre-digital era. Shocking to learn that documents were destroyed by the Stasi till May 1990, in spite of democratic forces having taken over long before.

Amazing! Love this place so much - was my second visit (took my 9 year old daughter and sister and brother-in law this time). I love how they haven’t spent loads of money making this place seem really glossy/modern - it’s exactly how it was during the days of the Stasi, and I really hope it stays this way. So nice seeing the original offices/etc exactly as they were when they were used for real.

Really cool place. There are tons of historical artifacts that grab your attention, though beware when you go if it’s hot outside. The heat was absolutely killing me on the day I went, so I became a bit tired and didn’t pay as much attention on the tour nearing the end. That being said, go on the guided tour - it’s very worth it.

I booked the lecture and was very impressed, the guy doing the talk was a fountain of knowledge and I could have listened to him for hours! The museum is well constructed and details alot of what went on. It's all together a great place to visit. It does make you wonder if we are living in a age that's that much diffrent now though, everywhere you go these days there are cameras and we are being tracked even if we like it or not! Sounds all to similar.

Great exposition. Well structured and well documented. However, too crowded. The museum exhibition is basically and super spreader event. One small room (25-30 square meters) may have up to 10 visitors at a time. Cloth masks and regular surgical masks are permitted. Do not recommend in corona times.

Interesting and informative, though largely photos and boards to read in German and English. Was advised that I’d need 3-4 hours to take it all in but managed in around 75 mins, including reading the majority of displays and dodging a few French school groups. Definitely worth the €10, though.

OMG! Where do I begin? To think that it was has decided wisely not to whitewash its history and pretend like this didn't happen is amazing. It is truly like stepping into a time machine. The look, the smell, everything about it feels like you are back in time when the GDR was tormenting it's poor people. This place is stunning, simply mesmerizing. That you can walk in and stand right in the actual unchanged offices of the cruel and notorious Stasi is a little intimidating to say the least. There are a couple things about the museum which are somewhat disappointing like an almost non-existent store to find books about the place and the coffee shop is quite lacking, but that's really not why you're here is it? I would say that it was well worth the sidetrip on the U-Bahn to get there from the center of Berlin. You won't be disappointed. Believe me.

This museum details the operations of the former East German secret police (Stasi), and is located in their former headquarters. You can visit all the rooms on your own, or take an audio guide or join one of the guided tours available. I would not recommend visiting this museum on a very hot day, as the rooms don’t have air-conditioning and can get quite uncomfortable on a hot day.

Quite interesting to learn about the former stasi. The museum has a lot of explanations about the secret police how they operated but less so about the victims. I recommend getting the tour as you get a nice overview of the whole museum and the period.

(Translated by Google) ... the STASI museum, in Berlin, is rather interesting but if approached without the AUDIO GUIDE (whose price is not included in the entrance ticket) it is certainly narcoleptic. As these are the buildings in the STASI headquarters, I think it can be defined as an important testimony of the harsh reality that characterized the GDR only in 1989. THE AUDIO GUIDE is absolutely essential but, basically, if in a small group (3 or 4 people) you can also choose to share only one. ... the "pass" to take pictures is useless as no one checks, allowing anyone to take pictures.

The exhibition there is very captivating and is supported by a large number of objects and photos of the time to illustrate the words. We can all the more visit the rooms as they were before. Since the museum is located in the former stasi headquarter it really sent yoi back in the 80s. The tour doesn' take long time (1.hour) and even if there are a lot of english translation most of the document are in german so you just take a quick look

A relic of the past preserved almost in the exact state it was when the Stasi were shuttered forever in 1990. The offices look like something out of one of the classic bond movies. A wonderfully preserved piece of history that all should go and see when they are in Berlin!

An absolute must for anyone interested in Berlin's history during Cold War and the Berlin Wall period and the role the MfS had in it. Although seemingly small in size the museum offers an extensive amount of information to digest for anyone who makes the decision to go there. The entrance fee is only 8€ for an adult, which makes it an even better deal. The museum lodges a varied collection of weapons, documents, gadgets, etc. which will teleport you straight back to the 70's. I especially enjoyed the 2nd floor, where the director's offices were located.

Very interresting facts about how the SED Party spied on their citizen and how it affect the way of living inside the DDR republic.

What can I say... I'm not the biggest fan of history, but my husband is... He is crazy for DDR and it was must see on the list. But when you enter.. You realize that really in this building it was happening! Great feeling. And for fans of serie Deutschland 83'... Yes they were filming it there ❤️

This museum is one of the best I’ve ever visited. It gives a clear walkthrough of how the secret service operated and changed its methods over time. With cool, real spy photographs it was really entertaining. Anyone could really be a spy. The area was very cool since it all was in the old stasi headquarters. If you are in Berlin, this is well worth catching the U-bahn and travelling a little to the outskirts of the city for.

A very good museum of the main tourist paths. This is definitely worth a visit. You get to walk through the original building of the Stasi. You will see the rooms where they worked from, spying on the entire population.

Superb museum in one of the original Stasi HQ buildings that has been very well preserved. Excellent exhibitions and stories. Good value at €10. I didn't do the audio guide but everything is annotated in detail anyway so didn't feel like I missed out.

The museum is a bit of a hike to get to from Mitte, but the location gives you an insight into what East German living was like. The museum itself serves both as a time capsule from the sixties/seventies, and a testament to the power and evil possible under autocratic government. A definite must see!

It was a great experience and great atmosphere that everthing was kept as they were in use at the moment. Written explenations in each room and for each material were detailed and interesting. Even without a guide or an audio guide, you can learn about Stasi quite enough. I spent about 1,5 hour in the museum and did not get bored at all.

I spent 4 days in Berlin seeing the recommended sights. The Stasi Museum was by far my favorite. Much more in-depth than the DDR Museum. So much information from former spies. The photos and stories are incredible. Offices are set up how they were at the time. Just amazing. We found free parking.

The location is great. It gives the feeling of living back before 1989 during division of East and West. Very well documented and a lot of historical information.

Wow ... Who knew about some of the crazy things going on in the GDR in the 50's - 80's? This museum provides a lot of information and history of how life was and maintained in GDR's socialistic society during the Cold War era. There is some amazing history here! Give yourself a few hours to absorb the content of this outing/museum. Doing the self-guided or tour guide experience is about the same so go with what fits your the schedule Allow for travel time out to this museum as it's further out of town but we'll worth it What I liked most was that it was more current history and a good change from all the WWII history around town. It allows you to understand this cities next chapter followong the war and Berlin Airlift

I have visited this museum several times in recent years. I think this is one of the better museums in Berlin. I recommend you to attend a guided tour, or/and to buy access to an audio guide. The café on the third floor makes the experience authentic. Highly recommended!

The Stasimuseum is not just another tourist attraction (like the DDR Museum eg.) but it is a historical site and a good place to learn and to gain knowledge on the darker side of human nature. Well preserved and well presented, also in English. Versatile aspects of East Germany’s state control are covered in interesting ways. I spent there more than 5 hours and did not catch everything. There are two modest cafes, but they do not offer meals. The ticket costs 10 euros.
