Great museum, free of charge. So far we have been there twice, the expositions are changing and we saw some new stuff which is great, we even got a book related to one of them for free. Parking and entrance is free and you get a map once you start. For all descriptions English translation is provided. There is a small shop on premises where you can buy vintage models, some souvenirs and also eat something. The offer is very limited, it's basically a sausage with a piece of bread (very tasty though!)/ instant meal, but you can also bring your food and drinks, and have a mini picnic - plenty of benches and tables outside to do so and the area is huge. Strongly recommend!

Must visit place for the History/Military Lovers. The place is free of cost, you’ll get a paper map as soon as you enter the Museum and you can visit all the Hangars/Spots by yourself. They have Equipments ranging from Radar to Planes to V1 Rocket (Replica Perhaps) and you’ll find every single information on the Information Plates before each equipment. I was happy seeing the Flak 88, BF 108 (Not 109), He 111 and many more! I just wish they had Ju87 and BF109s as well. Tip : Don’t miss out on the Hangar 3, that has the best information and equipments available. To Reach : You can take the X34 Bus from Alt-Kladow to reach the Museum. Time : The whole Trip might take 1-4 Hours depending on how much interest you have. Refreshments: There is a small restaurant too inside to sit, reenergise with a quick snack and drink. If TL;DR - Do visit the place, they have maintained it in the best possible way, and you will not regret going there.

Awesome flight and military museum. Entrance is free which is amazing. The aircraft inside and outside are awesome. So many different types of planes, helicopters and various other military equipment (missiles). About 45 min from center of Berlin by public transportation. Worth the visit!!!

The area is huge. It took us more then 2 hours just going through the airfield and the included museum. If you want to read through a few things it would take you a lot more time to end your visit. The informations in the museum are very detailed, not the basic WW2 Things, most of the informations are from witnesses or private documents they found. That makes the exhibition catchy. Furthermore there is a shop where you can eat something and buy yourself some plane or tank models.

Make sure to have 3 hours to visit such a huge museum. I enjoyed it a lot, even if soviet aircrafts are not making me amazed, because I saw them million times in my home country. But there are also a lot of West origin aircrafts that are very impressive. Goering’s uniform standing on the photos of burnt people was was very heavy to observe. Small exhibition related to the WWI also made me feel very nostalgic, because exactly the same military staff that was shown I was able to find in my home country like bullets, glasses, food plates and etc.

(Translated by Google) Informative with many exhibits, primarily of course from the Bundeswehr and NVA. But there are also quite a few "exotic species" among them. Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in (German) military history. Entry is free and there are plenty of parking spaces. Unsurprisingly, I recommend light shoes with which you can comfortably cover longer distances - because a visit to this former airport takes a lot of meters.

Open air museum with quite a big collection of airplanes, mostly from German air force. There is an exhibition in hangar with very interesting pieces like He 111 and reconstructed Fw 190.

A REAL MUST FOR AUSTRALIANS because it features an original C-47 „Dakota“ cargo plane that took part in the Berlin airlift of 1948/9. Built 1945 in Tulsa, USA it did service at first with the Royal Australian Air Force in Darwin NT until the Berlin Airlift in 1948 where it flew in foodstuff and other essentials for the two million West Berliners who were cut off from supplies by the communist blockade. Even coal for the power stations was flown in (17,000 sacks per day). In 1980 the plane was donated by the Australian government to the people of Berlin who restored it meticulously over several years. It now takes centre stage and pride of place in front of the tower of the former airfield of Gatow where the planes of the airlift (nicknamed by grateful Berliners as “raisin bombers“) used to be unloaded.

If you're into planes and like to know about aviation history, this museum is a must-visit. They have a lot of old planes, and the best part is that it's free to get in. The person at the entrance is really nice, gave us a map, and told us in English and Russian what to check out. We wish we had more time, but we can always plan another trip.

Inconvenient to get to without a car, but not difficult. Google maps doesn't show the entry, but it's at these coordinates 52.472301,13.133303. If you use this for directions, it can then plot in a course for public transport. Several bus routes go through the area. I got on the 603 from Potsdam and then the X34 back into Berlin, but there are several ways. The ABC day ticket will cover you. On the museum itself, part was closed (unknown period of time) due to the military being present. Still had plenty to see, especially as it's free. Toilet facilities by the entrance have stairs, but down in the main exhibit in Hanger 3, they have a disabled toilet. They had a temporary exhibit on WW1, which was quite interesting. The Hanger 3 covers the entire history of German aviation. It wasn't particularly busy on a Friday afternoon. Think kids will enjoy it, plenty of planes and helicopters on display. Detailed information available on the subject. I've requested that google adds the road up to the car park and marker for the museum, so the directions work for public transport. Post review note: Google has now accepted my recommendation and has added the road, can use public transport to museum pinpoint.

This is an absolutely great place if you are into this type of museum. One has to be a little bit of a (military) history geek to enjoy this massive collection. If you consider yourself such a kind of geek, you'll have a great time!

Amazing place that's filled with things to see and check. I can't believe it's free entry. There's a safety bunker around the entrance that you can go into. You'll see many different planes and equipment that was used during the past 50-80 years. You'll find many original pieces of clothing and drawings in addition to news articles. Make sure to check the outside area since some nuclear weapons are displayed near the helicopters. I would totally recommend going there

A must-visit if you love aircrafts and learning about aviation history. The museum has a huge variety of vintage aircrafts. Entrance is surprisingly FREE for all the information and cool exhibitions at the museum. The guy at the entrance was also super friendly. Greeted us, handed us a map of the museum and happily explained to us in English what we should see in the museum. Wish we had budgeted a little more time for the museum but now we can just make another day trip out of it.

Amazing experience. The exhibits are many and varied, well-explained im two languages. The museum is free! On a weekend it was almost empty. The crowds visiting Berlin haven’t found this gem — only 30 mins from city center.

What a great spot! My son is a military enthusiast so the main spot he wanted to get to was the Military History Museum. Travelled from Galway to Dublin then onto Berlin, train to hotel to drop off luggage and straight away he was busting to get there. I couldn't figure out the bus / train schedules and ended up paying €70 for a taxi to it ( taxi got lost😂) 2 exhausted adults and a very excited teen arrive at the barrier and straight away the staff in the museum sort us out with transport information for returning to Berlin later that day. Absolute legends! They were only too delighted to discuss history with my son who lapped it up. It was such a worthwhile visit. The museum is great and the staff are fantastic.

A mostly open air museum where you can walk the old airfield and see amazing aircraft from post WWII through the end of the Cold War. Also, a hangar filled with well-preserved WWI and WWII aircraft as well as more recent vehicles. Amazingly, it is free!

It is mildly interesting. The area looks like a graveyard and the buildings are old. The plane models outside look like they need a lot of maintainence. The artifacts inside are better but they lack a story or narrative. They are quite random and aren't as interesting as they could be.

Absolutely a highly recommende place to go! They have extremely interesting exhibits about undetonated explosives and the aftermath of war along with stories from different people. Very good if you want to educate youself on the horrors of war or see real war machines from the DDR-era and WW2.

Great Museum, spent way longer there than we were supposed too. Very English language friendly and once I started reading about the exhibits I couldn't stop. The exhibits inside the main hanger are pristine. My only complaint if possible was, no mention of the Isle of Man at the Martin-Baker ejector seat exhibit......(sorry I'm Manx!) 😉

Nice experience, they have a full collection of planes, my dad was "in love". The guides inside the gate were really kind. When we wanted to ask for a taxi on the entrance, the guard doesn't wanted to help us. I didn't have internet connection or signal and i didn't talk fluid German, if the guides from inside wouldn't help me I couldn't be able to go back the hotel.

I have only visited the outdoor exhibition. Lots of western and eastern cold war airplanes and helicopters. The outdoor aircraft are not all in a good shape. Being outside and in the weather creates a lot of wear. The same can be said of some of the info displays who are barely readable (the are QR codes though). Hopefully the outdoor aircraft get some attention and restauration.

Unique and quite impressive museum with many interesting exhibition pieces: Military planes, helicopters and other war material. There currently is a special exhibition in the hangar with the topic "Aerial warfare and language" (in German: Luftkrieg und Sprache). Definitely worth a visit! The entry is free!

This is a must see Museum that is not only aimed at military aviation enthusiasts but also regular people with minimum interest in military equipment. Free entry and parking areas are also provided for free. It is recommended to come on a good weather day as most of the airplanes are parked outside on the ramp, and there is a small section in hangar 3 with some ww1/ww2 airplanes. You can find mostly german ww2 aircrafts (and a rare Me163), soviet cold era jets and helicopters, some korean/ vietnam war era US planes but no 4th gen.

Warning, not child friendly! Very unfriendly personnel aggressively correcting my kid aged 10 looking at 3d slides without explaining what she did wrong! Seething in german to a dutch child won't help you pig! Please school your staff, this was unacceptable behavior! Visited 29th of april. Got a response from the owner, they would look into it but I shouldn't call their staff a pig. This tells me two things: 1. they don't take my complain serious, 2. They jumped to conclusion this can't be that bad without checking first. Corrected my rating to 1 star. Well done public relations person 👌🏻

Quite a trek on public transport from Centre of Berlin. Quite a few aircraft to see. Most of the ones outside are somewhat weather-beaten. Inside hangar 3 there are some interesting examples of aircraft used by German military over time. Was particularly impressed by the Tornado and the Russian fighter next to it.

As long as it took us to get here, it fulfilled my expectations. A very big, even ginormous, and interesting military museum. With some very rare planes to look at. Only drawback was travelling time as it took almost half a day to get here from Berlin. Visiting this museum in winter is neither a very smart idea as most of exhibitions are outside on the old airfield and you will probably freeze.

(Translated by Google) The museum is very interesting BUT: But: The staff (older woman) at the main entrance is already in the evening mood at 5:00 p.m. (Sunday) and greets you annoyed with: "Bit late today !?". Ignored this unfriendly remark and asked about the coin machine, where you can mint coins yourself with 3 motifs from the museum. After a disparaging smile from the employee came the answer: "There are no coins here, we are not in the zoo!" After pointing out that this is stated on the Internet and that this machine is probably in Hangar 3 (near the shop), the lady unfortunately still didn't see the light. On the contrary, it was scolded that it was not their problem if I went to the museum for free. After asking where Hangar 3 was to be found, there was only one derogatory remark that the shop had been closed since 3:00 p.m. and I would walk to Hangar 3 for free. There was no instruction where to find it, as a guest I should know that myself!?! I have rarely seen anything unfriendly to the customer and I am annoyed by such an unqualified staff, since my way to Hangar 3 was by no means in vain. The employee in Hangar 3 was very friendly and immediately knew what I was looking for and showed me the way. Many thanks to this employee. I recommend the employee from the main entrance to a training course in the area of customer service and to familiarize themselves with the work environment or, even better, stay at home, then you don't have to stand around annoyed at work and greed for the evening ;-). Incidentally, these are the desired coins that can be minted at the machine in the shop without the shop being open!

(Translated by Google) The magic word is secret, as secret as most of the cold war was, which you can see there today (Soviet hunter MiG 23, for example), so the tip still seems to be secret, this museum is still free with over 20 Fighters, bombers and helicopters from the German Armed Forces, NVA, USA, Royal Air Force and SU can be visited on the outdoor area and many other aircraft, historical uniforms etc. in 2 hangars. Very interesting especially for those who consciously experienced the walled-in Berlin before 1989. Themed souvenirs and models and small refreshments in an appealing shop and clean toilets complete the very edifying visit.

A stunning display of dozens and dozens of interesting and obscure aircraft, from the early days of flight until the end of the cold war. There was even a Messerschmitt (tiny!). Some other miscellaneous NATO ground hardware too, and a truly excellent and informative exhibition about all aspects of WW1. Easy to get to by bike, and worth having one to get around. A four start museum, the fifth star for the beer and bratwurst.

(Translated by Google) Look at ! It is worth it !!! Here you can experience the once allies and the airlift that saved Berlin from ruin during the Russian blockade. Negative: 🧐 Criticism is appropriate: the Bundeswehr unfortunately lets the planes rot in the open air. It's a shame about the many exhibits that should be better protected and refurbished in aircraft hangars (Gatow + Tempelhof). There would be so many hangars free and empty there. Why does this not work?? . Simply parked carelessly. The Bundeswehr has no sense of its own image and of maintaining traditions. Let alone for GDR NVA exhibits. (Original) Ansehen !

(Translated by Google) Highly Recommended! A great exhibition, nice staff, some of whom can also tell something about the history of the airfield - really impressive. The only downer is that the signs for the planes and helicopters in the outdoor area have unfortunately already faded a lot and a very creative person had the great idea to output the texts in white on a presumably yellow background. The yellow fades strongly in the sun and the text is then almost illegible. This should be improved once - if this is done sensibly, the follow-up costs for replacement are also moderate. (Original) Absolut empfehlenswert!

For main hangar 4 stars but in general my impression is 3 stars: - outside exhibition poor state and many nice planes are rusty dying and placed in chaos - most give away of materials are in german and only some on other languages - vast area but ... not well enough developed - the one main hangar (E?) is perfect and modern but made in complete chaos of flying eras, planes and technical ideas, there is enough place for making one by one cool hostrical aproach and such reach country like Germany can effort it - hostory of Gatov (on first floor) very good, but....all main communication in German...well :( ... - good that entry is free and many young people shall visit
