This is a free museum and you’ll spend some time here! There’s a lot of extremely interesting reading material, and talking about reading - THERE’S A LOT of reading here!! Nonetheless- Highly recommend! Just make sure you start from the top floor haha I didn’t ask anything when I got there and took me a bit to realize I didn’t start the right way 🤦‍♂️😅 each floor is dedicated to a phase everything you’ll be learning about! It’s amazing how they organized all the material and told us a story!

A detour from the centre is worthy to check out. Interactive voice assisted museum with locker facilities. Make sure you have 1 or 2 euros to use locker and get it back. The guided tour is recommended. The scanned documents look real under the table leds.

This place is an outstanding source of history....so much detail that allows one to reflect on how this period of time should never be forgotten. The simple location of this museum puts the center of Munich into better perspective As of July '23, the entrance fee and the use of audio equipment is absolutely free of charge Very close walking proximity to Marianplatz and the Rathaus

A free and very thorough overview of the horrible acts of the nazis in München, lots of text. Great that there was silence so you could read and ponder about the terrible topics covered in peace. Great granularity. A bigger generic timeline and smaller descriptions of the people's stories which helped illustrate the main focus of the museum.

Every person who wants to understand the history of Germany between World war 1 and 2 and rise and fall of third Reich should visit this museum. Spread over 3 floors this museum is super informative. There is no entry fee and you can also take free audio guide from the reception.

It’s free but they also sell books about the exhibition inside. The story in the museum is nicely put and has a nice lay out so you wont miss a thing.

As my first stop in Munich, it gave me a full picture of the city by its history. The visiting route is very clear and the content is rich with text, pictures and free audio guide. The architecture is amazing as well. I spent the whole afternoon there.

So interesting, expect to spend at least two to three hours if you really want to take it all in. There’s no ticket and it’s free for everyone.

Excellent free museum about Nazism in Germany. Specially the 5th floor is extremely important as it very carefully lays out how and why Nazism gained popularity. Every claim is backed up by many many pieces of historical evidence like old advertisements, posters, different paraphernalia, etc. MUST VISIT. i don't know why it does not show up when you Google for best museums in Munich - it really should be at the top of the list.

This was a great place to visit and was definitely a good idea for filling up a couple of hours. Unfortunately our party came in at 5pm so we only actually had an hour to look around before it closed but if we had more time we would definitely have spent up to 3-4 hours. The place was lovely and clean, as well as air conditioned and we got in for free, which is always a great bonus. It was extremely informative and the surrounding area is amazing as well. Thank you for the experience

This is a place that everyone must visit. The history and lessons learnt from here are amazing. An audio guide is recommended as there are student groups going around having discussions too which can be quite disturbing if you are trying to read the information they have on display. Must do while in Munich.

So much information... Would need multiple visits to get everything in. The museum is free and provides you with a lot of information regarding NS in München and Germany. It is a lot of reading but very interesting!

It is 3/4 floors for rise and fall of Hitler. A must visit for everyone. But lots of paper clippings and all the injustice that was carried out in those times has been showcased, need at least 45min per floor.

This was one of the best museums I've ever visited! Such succinct story telling, well structured and simply designed that all your attention is drawn in and held strong as you proceed through the information. It's a lot of reading, A LOT OF READING! There may be some guide facilities but we were unable to find information about it. Some audio visual summarisation might be helpful for those who may be in a hurry. But this should be high on your to-do list if you're in Munich!

This is a must visit not only for all history loving folks, but also who want to learn more about the city. I was genuinely surprised by the dark history of the city and the role it played in WW II. The admission is free of cost and I urge you to get the audio guide. In all, a great experience here - learnt a lot. Munich has come a long way.

Learned so much in this place. If you're interested in the subject matter, allow for way more than the 3h "recommended" viewing time. One could easily spend double that time in the museum.

Free to enter museum Fascinating displays over 4 floors showing the rise and fall of the nazis . Folding seats are available to borrow from near the entrance door, to enable those who struggle to stand for long periods to experience all the displays. Free to use lockets in the basement to store your belongings during your visit.

Amazing experience, specially for a free Museum. About the fscilities: everything was translated, the staff was friendly, there is space for placing bags, clean toilets. There is a lift, available for people with issues to Walk around. About the exchibition, I went to see a temporary exhibition about queer people on the 50's : sensible, beatiful, with good Installations. Must view

Too much reading and not enough artefacts/audio, so a bit boring. Recommend visiting Dachau instead to be immersed in the history and get the same overview with much more to see, hear and feel emotionally.

A ton of history here. Note that this museum is mostly reading content. But if you go in with that expectation, you will enjoy. Probably not best place for younger kids/teens as they may get bored. I learned a ton.

Incredible interesting. I went with a small group of friends and we hired a guide, who explained everything in the documentation center in incredible detail. There are lots of things to read, to watch and to see, all of which explain how Hitler- and the Nazis- got to power and how they slowly built the society that they were known for. Definitely worth the visit, especially if you get someone to explain everything. I learned A LOT.

Long to visit: it takes more than 2 hours. 4 floors packed with rigorous research lots of documents clear explanation. It s free and there are audioguides in a lot of languages. If you like quick browsing then it s not worth it i guess although you can choose what you want to listen to. I would not got with young children, they ll get bored. It s not at all interractive. But I think you leave more intelligent or at least better informed than when you came in. I d recommend it to anybody going to Munich as a must see... but you need to know what to expect. It s not a funny moment.

A MUST! Easily one of the best history museums I have had the chance to visit. The quality of the displays is unmatched. Loads of both general history, well needed as a refresher and a threadline amongst the différents floors and time periods, but the extraordinary added value of the museum lies in its amazing pieces of documentation and examples of memorabilia. It's a well needed experience and museum, and it's great that it is free. I am already impatient to come back here.

The entrance is free, and give a full story of the events that led to world war 2 and the rise to power of a particular party. It is more focused on text it starts with the hardships of post WW1 Germany and finishes with the aftermath of WW2. It is a good place to get context and get to know how an extremist movement can get inti power.

Detailed and moving documenatation of the Nazi party. People including myself were breaking down in tears. It was horrific however I'm glad I saw it. Makes me sad writing this and remebering it.

  • 5/5 Jake P. 1 year ago on Google
Very well done. I thought it was a very good pair with Yad Vashem, actually. One is about making sure the names of the list are remembered, and one is, in large part, dedicated to making sure the names of the perpetrators are remembered. This could never match the emotional impact of that, but it was a very well done document to the rise of evil in Germany and beyond

A quiet and respectful museum that shows the dark times in munich. Would be alot better if they had WW2 items like guns, helmets and tanks, but with what they got, solid museum.

  • 5/5 Raquel L. 10 months ago on Google
You don't need to buy a ticket, its for free. Super intormative, some of the photos I will never forget. Don't take kids to this museum, some images are violent.

Incredible experience learning about National Socialism and how it developed in Germany. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to look through everything; there is lots to see and learn.

Another very well laid out museum. Very interesting ,start on the 4th floor and follow history through the years to the first floor. We spent a full afternoon here. Comfortable shoes a must but there are chairs at the entrance you can carry easily around with you. It's free to go in.

  • 5/5 Kat D. 11 months ago on Google
So interesting. I can't believe this doesn't seem to appear anywhere in 'things to do in Munich'. We were there for 3 hours and it is free to enter, so a great thing to do on a rainy day, or any day really, especially if you're into information about wars and how national socialism developed.

A moving and informative collection of stories from the era of German Nazism including the circumstances that lead to its popularity and the post WW2 situation.

  • 5/5 Chris L. 2 years ago on Google
I've gone to a lot of WW2 museums and historical locations from Germany to Japan. This museum was still able to teach me things that I didn't know, and helpede understand the events from 1918-1945 from a socialogical and political viewpoint. It focuses on Munich and Bavaria and the circumstances that allowed for the horrors to not only occur, but grow and expand. Highly recommended, it's important to understand these things so they don't keep happening. There was some focus on post 1945 as well, I would have liked even more contextualizing the last 80 years of events and racism as well, although with limited space you have to pick and choose what to spend time and space on. Also could use a few more benches, as it's a lot of standing and reading!

  • 5/5 Ricardo M. 1 year ago on Google
One of the best museums in city Munich, no fee and very good exhibition for people interested in national socialism or not.

  • 5/5 Abdullah S. 1 year ago on Google
It's a well-documented and very interesting place for history lovers and those who have interest in Politics. Unfortunately I had a very little time at-hand, and I could only skimm over the place, but I learned a lot!

Super interesting museum about the history of the Nazis. There is a lot to read so definitely recommend to go there early to be able to read everything. Or to take a guided tour.

t's often said that Germany has done much to atone for the crime committed by National Socialism and this museum does a great job of documenting much of it. There's lots of information for ready, via audio guides or videos cover the origins of National Socialism, all the way to it's demise at the end of the Second World War.

If you’re doing research for a project or are just interested to know all about the time before, between and after the 2nd World War, this is the place for you. There is everything you can imagine here, from facts, to dates, original pictures from the scenes, etc. The staff was kind and helpful.
