Wir haben für die Zeit des Museumsbesuches unser Fahrzeug im Parkhaus direkt vor dem Gebäude abgestellt. Nach Rückkehr mussten wir 50 Cent Parkgebühr entrichten. Ja wo gibt es denn noch solche fairen Preise?! Aber jetzt zum Museum: Am Vormittag waren wir im "Haus Hohe Pappeln" und so bestens vorbereitet, denn das große Thema der Ausstellung ist "Van de Velde, Nietzsche und die Moderne um 1900". Das Museumsgebäude allein weiß zu beeindrucken durch seine opulenten Räume. Die Ausstellung gliedert sich in 3 Rundgänge. Uns haben die ersten beiden sehr beeindruckt. Rundgang 3 zeigt eine Museumswerkstatt für handwerkliche Arbeiten und kann aus unserer Sicht nicht mit den ersten beiden mithalten. Neben van de Velde werden Harry Graf Kessler und die Schwester von Nietzsche in Multimediavorträgen näher vorgestellt. Alles klasse erklärt und präsentiert und nicht zu langatmig. Es war super interessant und die gezeigten Exponate haben uns schwer beeindruckt. Man kann die Ausstellung im Museum Neues Weimar auch als die schillernde Vorgeschichte des Bauhauses verstehen. Unbedingt anschauen!

If you love history, this is the place to be! A must visit in Weimar. The museum tour is divided into parts and each part follows a timeline of events. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive elements of the museum. Will definitely go back again some day!

Worth a visit. Entertaining. Best in Combination with Bauhaus Museum.

Auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Mit dem Kombi Ticket geht es noch günstiger wenn man noch zum Beispiel ins bauhaus Museum möchte. Eine richtig Runde Sache wird es mit der weimar+ App.

Dieses Museum ist um Längen besser gestaltet als das Bauhaus-Museum. Das Konzept ist viel besser durchdacht und sehr gut umgesetzt. Während das Bauhaus nur aufgrund des Namens voll war und ich mich quasi 1 Stunde nur gelangweilt habe, war es hier richtig gut, nur leider halt nicht viel los. Da verpassen hier Viele etwas. Wirklich schön aufgebaute Geschichte mit vielen Filmen und Exponaten.

Wir waren in Weimar um das Bauhaus-Museum und das Haus am Horn zu sehen. Das Museum Neues Weimar haben wir eigentlich nur betreten, weil es sowieso auf dem Weg zurück zum Bahnhof lag und im Kombiticket enthalten. Zum Glück! Ein tolles Museum, schön aufgearbeitete Zusammenfassungen mit Bild und Ton, ein tolles Konzept! Idealerweise die erste Anlaufstelle, bevor es weiter zum nahe gelegenen Bauhaus Museum geht - so past auch die Chronologie der Geschichte :)

There should be more with English. The path is clear, but could be more interactive.

The entrance fee is for adults 8 There are 3 different round exhibitions. 1sf is about the Weimar architecture building and famous people in 1860 2nd are mostly arts and crafts schools in Weimar. 3rd is in the basement about the traditional way of making book covers.

Super spannende Ausstellung mit vielen interaktiven Stationen. Man kann hier die Vorläufer und Anfänge der Bauhaus Bewegung entdecken. An den meisten Tagen ist das Museum nahe zu leer, was Schade für das Haus ist aber für den Besucher die Gelegenheit die Ausstellung ganz für sich allein zu genießen.

Beeindruckende Architektur, tolle Exponate und sehr guter Einsatz von Medien. Seit langem eines der besten Museen.

Das Gebäude ist imposant und ein perfekter Rahmen für die vielen tollen Exponate. Die Entwicklung der modernen Kunst in Weimar wird teilweise klassisch, teilweise mit interaktiven und Multimedia - Elementen dargestellt. Es ist sehr informativ, interessant und kurzweilig. Unbedingt vor dem Bauhausmuseum besuchen, denn hier wird die Vorgeschichte des Bauhaus beleuchtet.

Really beautiful museum showing different periods and important people in the Weimarer art scene. Also, there are some short movies about different personalities who were present in the history of art here. Of course the topic of Bauhaus is also elaborated, especially with Henry van der Velde.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good location close to Bauhaus museum. Exhibition is interesting and well presented. The BEST is that you get 5 museums on one ticket a bargai because it includes my favourites, Bauhaus and Haus am Horn.

Great exhibits of the Weimar history of arts and crafts development by a smaller museum but definitely majestic and elegant.

Very well done museum. Before you visit the Bauhaus Museum go and see this one: Van der Velde - Nietzsche - Harry Graf Kessler.

Sick of Goethe, Schiller and classicist buildings? If so, the Neues Museum Weimar is a stunning excursion into the cities’ modern history and definitely for you. The museums’ approach of showcasing philosophy, furniture and architecture of the era through a multimedia experience is well-rounded. It makes one nostalgic for times you never lived in. As a visitor, who has little knowledge of German early modernism, it feels refreshing to experience the art produced by and a taste for the period without having the feeling of being pulled into a political direction. The highlight where the architectural Jugendstil drawings, putting a different spin on Weimar. Not an old and dusty place but once a place of new ideas and future. Highly recommend visiting Dessau after visiting the Neues Museum Weimar.

Not your usual “modern art” museum. Excellent pieces and explanations in English and German. Natural scenes, furniture styles, and architectural designs are displayed. An interactive book binding room is in the basement. (November 2019)
