Go on Sundays for €1! Most signs are also in English. The museum has a one way track, follow the metal arrows on the floor (they're actually easy to miss). We spent about two hours here. There is a small gift shop and Café but we found the cappuccinos bad and watery.

Very nice collection of Egyptian artifacts from when Bavaria was a kingdom and interested in acquiring these sorts of things. Very well laid out and spacious exhibition space. The entrance I find especially impressive. Came here on a Sunday for the 1 euro entry. Well worth it. Not crowded. Took about 2 hours. An audio guide would help save you some reading.

Well worth a visit, and especially on Sunday! Normally it costs 8 Euros for admission, but on Sunday, tickets are only 1 Euro each. The museum is housed in a newer building, and the architectural style perfectly reflects the venue. Staff are friendly and the bathrooms are quite clean. There is a gift shop on the premises, but it was closed. Backpacks have to be stored in a locker, costing a Euro 🪙 that is returned upon pick up. The museum holds artifacts representing 5000 years of Egyptian History. Exhibits include statues, sculptures, mummies, stone tablets with hieroglyphics and much more. This is great museum for kids as well, because there are a lot of interactive Exhibits. All exhibits are described in both English and German. There is so much to see! We were there about 2 hours.

Incredible museum with so many rooms and artifacts. Most of the pieces are very well-intact and well-preserved. There are also interesting facts/readings in both German and English.

Descend into 5000 years of culture on display in one of the most unique and beautiful museums. The museum is art in and of itself, the collections are spectacular. It was only 1 euro to enter Sunday, 7 euro every other day. Children under 18 are free and the museum is closed Mondays, but check their website for hours as they are open some bank holidays and closed other holidays. Audio guides may be an additional euro. There is a small gift shop/cafe.

Really well laid out and easy to navigate the museum. I would recommend getting the audio guide as it is quite helpful. My favourite part of the museum was the interactive features throughout the museum as it translated various hieroglyphs and images and told a story that allowed me to picture aspects of life back during the time of the mummification and burial rituals. I had a Munich City Pass and so an audio guide was included. I also had access to the special exhibition that was happening.

There sadly wasn’t much we could actually do during my birthday, but fortunately that day at least some museums allowed visitors again, and we decided to check out the Museum of Egyptian Art in Munich! It’s located in the Munich art area, and to reach it you best exit at the U-Bahn station ‘Koenigsplatz’, and then follow the sign towards the museum. Once you’re up at the Koenigsplatz itself, walk away from the propylaeum, passing the ‘Glyptotek’ on the left and the State Collections of Antiquitieson your right. Once you reach the crossroads, cross the road on the left side and then walk left. After passing the school for music and theatre, you then reach the Museum of Egyptian Art. The entrance is really interesting and I totally love the design. Once you’re inside, you’ll find the reception to the right. If you head on through, there’s usually a small café, the toilets and lockers for your bags, as you’re not allowed to take them with you. They then scanned our tickets and we headed inside. Sadly I wasn’t allowed to film, which wasn’t stated anywhere on the homepage, sadly. Either I just didn’t find it, or it really is not there, which they should definitely change and add. The official homepage states that “Rather than presenting a baffling array of rooms stuffed to the brim with Egyptian artwork, all within an even larger complex, the Munich museum offers respite from sensory overload with a more compact exhibition” – and that’s something you notice right away. The overall design is really clean and simple with the artefacts on display. There’s a line on the floor which you should follow, leading you around the museum. There is also a member of staff in almost every room, and maybe it’s due to the museum being so empty right now, but sometimes I really felt watched in an almost uncomfortable kind. They offer multimedia content as well, and the design is really creative and it teaches you a lot. The museum is wheelchair accessible and standard tickets for adults cost 8,80€. It is a really interesting collection and I’m glad I finally had the chance to visit this museum.

The exhibitions are very interesting, quite well organized and definitely worth visiting. However, I highly discourage buying the audio guide. I've used for a few artifacts and never again for the rest of the day. For most of hundreds of artifacts, there is a several-minute-long, extremely non-selective random content about it, as if copied from Wikipedia. You can't possibly learn anything from it if you want to see most of the artifacts instead of standing 10 minutes in front of some random subset. They are not structured in a way to be possible to listen just to the first 30-60 seconds and get the most important information or anything like that. Suprisingly badly designed and prepared. On the other hand, the openly available text descriptions everywhere are great and everything the audio guide is not.

Highly recommend to explore the ancient wander of Egypt 🇪🇬. I am an Egyptian and really appreciate the way how the museum presents the artifacts. There is usually text in German and English. The audio guide is highly recommended.

It's an okay museum. It's not what we were expecting but definitely had a very large exhibit. The devices we were given weren't as information as I personally would have liked. It's certainly a large musuem and has so much to see. If you're a fan of ancient Egypt you might enjoy but I am sure there are better ones around the world. Good place to go to get out of the weather element's.

I visited this museum on a Sunday when entry fee is 1 euro. It’s a really nice place with enough information and the collection will keep you occupied for a couple of hours.

The msueum with the most appropriate entrance ever Some people are annoyed because the entrance to this magnificent museum might be overlooked. But let this not be a hindrance to recognize the appropriatenss of it. Inside the museum the appreciation for the museum continues. Both the architecture of the museum and the display of the great collection are worth a visit by itself. We also visited the very informative Naga exhibition. We had never heard of this once impressive city in what is now Sudan. There is a lot to be seen in München, this museum is a 'must see' place!

A very cool museum itself. The collection is small compared to Berlin, Louvre and other such themed museums, but I left satisfied anyway. Well organized interactive screens.

The museum is located in the center of the city with an exquisite style of architecture. Upon entering the building you go down the stairs as "descending towards the light", because the following rooms get direct sunlight from the ceiling. It covers 5000 years of Egyptian history with over 2000 artifacts. It engulfs you and takes you to the ancient history as you wander around the museum. Highly recommend museum to visit. Entry is 7€ which includes an audio guide and 1€ on Sundays. For children under 18, the entrance is free.

Went on a Sunday and only paid €1 to get in. Due to covid restrictions they only admit a certain number of visitors at a time so you have to book tickets online. A great (and cheap!) way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

If you're into Egyptian history, this is a must-see. Also, if you just want to learn more about Pharaoh's history in Egypt from the beginning almosr 5.000 years ago until 500 ad. Beautiful artifacts, statues, fabrics, and more. All clearly layed-out. This, combined with the interactive menu's, tells you the history behind the piece. And the entrance is 7 euro, on Sundays even 1 euro so don't let that keep you from visiting!

What a gallery. Beautifully designed and laid out. Very clean. They have thousands of Egyptian items that span across history. They offer tablets that you can track where you are and what you have seen. They also let you see where they found or discovered the item. I found myself meandering around looking at the artifacts myself, and only when I really liked something did I use the tablet. I would recommend this museum to anyone in Munich who loves history and ancient Egyptian history.

Interesting museum, even though I would have expected more information and more important items. the digital screens are informative and playful. The mesopotamian part with it's 5 carved stones are absolutely beautiful! The exhibition "how to catch a naz** is very well displayed, however I would have expected more stories about the others that have been caught abroad. For some reason they focused only on one person, which is a shame.

Tolles Museum: Klasse Exponate, viel Interaktives, sehr guter thematischer Aufbau.

One of the best Egyptian museums outside of Egypt. Intriguing building, gorgeous collection and thoughtful exhibits. Different approaches to objects of ancient heritage: as art, archaeology, thematically, according to material, and as the focus of collectors. Great interactive displays. No human remains exhibited. Munich is also generally a great place for culture and museums (and food and drink).

Great exhibition about ancient Egypt. Not enough information about cats though. The entire museum is in English and German. Some parts are interactive. In the morning on week days some middle school field trips were there. The special exhibition about Adolf Eichmann was amazing. A must see.

Impressive museum! But be careful to have a map with you, you might get lost because of its architecture

Amazing to see up close the details of old Egyptian culture. The items exhibited are endless for the curious ones you might spend couple of hours enjoying the intricate details of the artifacts and stories with visuals if get the media guide pack. On sundays not so crowded and museums cost 1 euro. It is fantastic experience and very engaging for the 11 yo child, I highly recommend it

The collection is much larger than I remembered, and covers a long period of Egyptian history. Artifacts are in excellent shape, very well preserved and presented. They have a kids rally/ tour on a tablet that engages them with the exhibit (but does not cover everything and may distract them from the rest). Put it on your Sundays routine!

  • 5/5 Oleksandr C. 1 year ago on Google
It was really cool. We were on Sunday, so the entrance price was only 2 euros. It was interesting to see so many interesting exhibits related to the history of Egypt.

Great museum with a great exhibition covering lots of fascinating history and artifacts. The exhibit is well laid out and is bigger than it seems at first. If you like museums and you're visiting München, then this museum is an absolute must. Truly a hidden gem.

Wow spectacular I loved it, I think it is very interesting for those who love Archeology and History, this Museum has unique pieces, the best for me was: The Eastern part with part of the Assyrian Palace of King Assurnasipals II from Neo-Assyrian time and the Lion of the Ischtar Tower of Babylon gift from the Berlin museum of the Neo-Babylonian time. 😍🦁🛕🐪✨

Nice collection of Egyptian art and artefacts. We managed to cover this as part of the 'long night of museums in Munich' but even outside of that, the ticket prices aren't much. It is very well maintained.

If you have a passion for ancient Egypt you should not miss this place. This museum has an impressive collection of sculptures, writings, sarcophagus, jewelries and potteries. A variety of objects belonging to ancient Egyptians

Intriguing insight into the Egyptian culture. Well designed museum with info touchscreen to understand what you're looking at. Loved the timeline of man tools since prehistoric period. A good display on theories of afterlife as per Egyptian mythology. I would greatly recommend visiting it and acquaint yourself with the ancient world artefacts. Average time to spend would be around 2-3 hours. Entry on Sunday is just 1€ and around 7€ on other days. There is a souvenir shop as well where you can buy something for reasonable prices.

  • 4/5 Krishna C. 2 years ago on Google
The museum is very well planned. It doesn't overwhelm casual visitors with too much information. The exhibits are arranged chronologically and easy to navigate.

  • 4/5 Yan M. 2 years ago on Google
The museum is not big but very interesting introduction. Unfortunately our student ticket was allowed to only enter after 1730 so we do not have anytime inside. You would need at least 1h to take a closer look.

While the architecture, content and design of the place are great, the whole experience was average. The staff didn't speak any english and wasn't friendly at all, we couldn't pay by card and the tour itself didn't offer a lot of guidance.

Detail of the stele of Queen Amanishakheto. She stands between the goddess Amesemi and the god Apedemak. Sandstone. From the Amun Temple at Naqa (also Naga), in modern-day Sudan. Meroitic period, 1st century CE. State Museum of Egyptian Art, Munch, Germany. Amanishakheto was a Kandake of Kush. She seems to have reigned from 10 BC to 1 AD, although most dates of Kushite history before the Middle Ages are very uncertain. In Meroitic hieroglyphs her name is written “Amanikasheto” (Mniskhte or (Am)niskhete). In Meroitic cursive she is referred to as Amaniskheto qor kd(ke) which means Amanishakheto, Qore and Kandake (“Ruler and Queen”). #ReturnEgyptianMonuments 🇪🇬✈️

Fantastic experience! Definitely recommend taking one of the complimentary interactive audio guides. Well thought-through museum, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Accessibility is also great with most of the museum on one level and lifts available when not. Even includes a room where you get to touch and experience some of the artwork! Highly recommend!

I certainly enjoyed the Munich Museum of Egyptian Art, which is probably due to having an interest in this area of history. The range of artifacts provides a good balance. The location itself is quite remote away from the immediate city centre. However, 7 Euros is great value or 1 Euro on a Sunday.

I loved the museum! I have to say I had a lovely time there. It’s so well taken care of, everything is beautiful placed and making going through the museum a wonderful and educational time. The staff were just so nice, kind and helpful! I would recommend a visit!

If you plan on coming here it takes more than 3 hours to fully enjoy it and definitely reccomend getting an audio guide it literally explains every detail of every piece in the museum. And most importantly don't forget to visit the gift shop before leaving you can find some goods in there.

Quite a nice museum. There is a guided line on the floor you can follow that gives a 'timeline' to the visit to the museum and makes it even more interesting. A lot of art, archeological pieces, as well as interactive material in different languages. The antique artefacts placed in a relatively modern building made for quite a unique experience.

Wonderful exhibit. Well laid out with English and German exhibit explanations. I’ve always enjoyed Egyptian history but most exhibits stop before Alexander’s invasion. This tells the story from very very early Egypt through the Islamic era. I really enjoyed it.

First I was a little sceptical about this museum. But when you come inside it is so well done! The exposition is not extremely big but the arrangement is wonderful 👍 And on Sunday the entrance ticket costed only 1 EUR

About this Egyptian museum the there are 2 negatif things. 1. is the entrance, you should use the stairs to enter the place. There are some hand paintings on walls around the building but I dont think they show it correctly. 2. Is the lack of english explanations (since we know in Germany english is not very prefered so it is not the museum's fault I suppose) Except those issues the museum was really interesting, so many artifacts & modern configuration. There was a screen which you can select the timeline and see what was the most important event that happened in that timeline and also the materials they used to describe it. Even to the students as not fully history lovers (like us 😅) It was enjoyable & very informative.
