Dresden Castle or Royal Palace is one of the oldest buildings in Dresden, Germany. For almost 400 years, it was the residence of the electors (1547–1806) and kings (1806–1918) of Saxony from the Albertine House of Wettin as well as Kings of Poland (1697–1763). It is known for the different architectural styles employed, from Baroque to Neo-renaissance. Today, the residential castle is a museum complex that contains the Historic and New Green Vault, the Numismatic Cabinet, the Collection of Prints, Drawings and Photographs and the Dresden Armory with the Turkish Chamber. It also houses an art library and the management of the Dresden State Art Collections.

Full of history and a nicely located museum shop. My nephew entered inside where presents treasures from war. No phone, bag and jacket allowed during entrance. As you will understand, it is forbidden to take a photo as well.

Large castle with a lot of rooms. Prepare to spend 3 - 5 hours easily to see all parts of it. Also one thing to note you can’t enter with large bags (my small backpack got rejected by security) get your valuables with you or leave it at hotel

This place is huge. It took me much longer than anticipated to see all the rooms and floors. I'd highly recommend using the free audio guide. Unfortunately the green vault was sold out for the day so I didn't get to visit that part. I enjoyed getting to go to the Dresden Castle and loved learning about the history and seeing how they're restoring it.

A whole set is of great architectural interest and its Museum contains pieces of remarkable beauty. A visit not to be missed! Mixed feelings after a family visit today. On the one hand the exhibitions are impressive and way beyond capabilities of family with kids on 1 day but that I consider a big plus. Taking the size and quality of the collection the ticket prices also seem reasonable. A big minus though from a visitor perspective are the security measures: you cannot enter the exhibitions with any type of bag, not even a wallet size one tighten to a belt. That means all documents, money etc you have to carry in your pockets (if you are lucky to have ones) or hands. To some rooms you cannot also take the camera (not only take pictures but even carry one). Finally, the guards are everywhere, breathing to your neck, watching your every step. I never felt so not welcomed in any other European museum and I have been to many. I will still recommend a visit there but will not remember my own one warmly.

Amazing collections. Unfortunatel the historic green vault are still not available. The are 3 floors. On the 3rd now is retrospective of Christian Borchert( photographer) work.

There is so much to see and watch, it all depends what you want to see. 3-4 hours is neccessary. Green vault is with guides other sections of museum you can visit you own. I liked sgraffito technique courtyard,m als you can climb to the tower and watch over the Dresden Oldtown. A lot wepons, clothes, monetary and so on. Information service works great, i was not a clue how much i can visit, they made suggestions and i was able visit a lot... ok not all sections of museum but enough. One must do in Dresden

Truly an astonishing place. You can very literally spend all day looking at and reading about all the art and antiques they have, and not even see everything. It's definitely a worthwhile visit, but be prepared to spend all day here, that is, if you're actually going to read and look at everything.

Dresden Castle - Residence of the German Kings. It's just something incredible... the exposition is like you've visited several museums. We spent 6 hours, and that's without the GREEN VAULTS, where you have to buy separate tickets (14E) and the entrance is limited. So, in this castle you can look at the NEW GREEN VAULTS, where a huge number of jewels are presented, also the GALLERY OF ARMOURY, FIREARM GALLERY, THE HALL OF TOURNAMENT FIGHTS, ELECTORAL WARDROBE, COINS AND ORDERS, ROYAL STATE APARTMENT OF AUGUST THE STRONG, THE TURKISH CHAMBER, BALLROOM, THE OBSERVATION PLATFORM. Everything is very interesting, there is a lot of everything. Biggest exposition I have ever seen under one roof.

One of the must have attraction in Dresden. Great place to see if you love baroque (architecture, style, paintings, art) or history of 17-18 century, including tremendous amount of original exhibits. Paradoxically a lot of history of Poland, as both Augustus II and his son - Augustus III were not ony electors of Saxony but also Kings of Poland.

A huge palace with lots of attractions inside and holds one of the richest collections of treasures in Europe. Been once the house of Saxon Electors and Prince, this place hold lots of history and marvellous pieces of art and culture. Make sure you keep atleast 3-4 Hours for a proper visit and exploration of the riches of this castle. The famous green vault, the armour collection, the electoral wardrobe, the firearms gallery, silver weapons hall and many more collections. Highly recommended.

Dresden Castle is one of the oldest buildings in Dresden. Already in the 12th century there was a small castle, as evidenced by the foundations under the main tower. In 1382, the residence was enlarged, in 1471 the present west wing was erected. When Dresden became the permanent residence of the rulers in 1485, the medieval castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance building. In 1530, a representative residential castle was erected at the height of the northern gate. In 1547, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. After a major fire in 1701, castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style. More rebuilding took place between 1889 and 1901. On the night of February 13/14, 1945, during the allied air raid on Dresden, the castle was bombed and burnt down. The multi-phase reconstruction lasted until 2004, when the castle was made available to visitors. Today, the castle holds a museum complex that contains the Historic and New Green Vault, the Numismatic Cabinet, the Collection of Prints, Drawings and Photographs and the Dresden Armory. It also houses an art library and the management of the Dresden State Art Collections.

Audio devices are available at the entrance and are included in the entrance fee. Very exemplary. The prices are reasonable. The sanitary facilities are neat and clean. The best way to get to the Residenzschloss is via the Augustus Bridge. Sufficient parking spaces are available. If you want to park for free, you have to accept a short walk. For 10 euros there is a family ticket with which you can also use the cable car.

The Green Vault (Grünes Gewölbe) is a museum that contains the largest collection of treasures in Europe. Founded by Augustus II the Strong in 1723, it features a unique and rich variety of exhibits from the period of baroque to classicism. The museum consists of the Historic Green Vault (Historisches Grünes Gewölbe) and the New Green Vault (Neues Grünes Gewölbe). The Historic Green Vault is known for its treasure chambers and is itself a baroque work of art. The New Green Vault is more modern. The Historic Green Vault is located on the ground floor of the Dresden Castle and visits require an advance booking; admittance to the New Green Vault, which is on the second floor, is not limited.

Incredible place to visit! Contains a huge treasure collection along with Ottoman empire exhibition, Knight armor exhibition, and Royal apartments (which were partially destroyed and will be repaired by 2024 so you can see only half of them). All of the above are included in the ticket price. There is one more treasure exhibition (Old Green Vault, older part of the treasure collection), which can only be entered with additional ticket at certain times. In my opinion, the treasure exhibition included in the ticket is more than enough (we spent almost 3 hours exploring). Totally recommend this place - one of the best museums to visit in Dresden.
