This museum epitomises everything I hate about modern art. Most of it is pretentious rubbish. The exhibit of Cy Twombly is the worst example of why. Most of it is nothing more than child-like scrawls with his interpretation of the Battle of Lepanto being case in point. If you want to see what real art looks like, the Alte Pinakothek is only five minutes walk away. It's a good thing I visited on a Sunday where the entrance fee is only €1. The Andy Warhal exhibition was "okay", otherwise I'd have felt cheated even at €1. Just about the only thing I liked about the museum is the building itself. Probably okay if you like modern art.

Modern art could make you happy, sad, uncomfortable, angry, whatever. It will definitely not leave you indifferent. But you have to make some effort. And this muzeum will be great starting point, especially for 1 euro ticket. Permanent collection and excebitions are fantastic. You'll be able to see the works with explanation and context. Totally recommend for a visit.

This is another great way to spend a good part of a rainy day. Art is like food. It’s all a matter of taste and opinion. I try to keep an open mind but obviously some dishes I find more attractive than others. Some I will have a second helping and others I will give a pass. Find your favourite dish(es) and enjoy ! If you don’t find anything tasty in the display rooms you might get lucky in the restaurant ! Senior’s get discounts and the gift shop has a large selection of interesting books. Almost all bags are required to be stored in the provided lockers. Bring change to use the locker (refunded when you open it).

One of the main centers of contemporary art in Munich with over 1200 pieces of art. The museum opened to the public in 2009 and was originally the collection of Anette and Udo Brandhorst, which upon Anette's death, Udo donated to the municipality. The center focus of the permanent exhibition is Cy Twombly's works and the museum has the largest number of artworks from Andy Warhol in Europe. Entry to the museum is 7€ and free for children under 18. Sundays the entry is 1€

The entrance on Sunday is no longer 1€. The museum is okay. The lighting inside is a little dim for me. The staff is not the friendliest. When you go inside they are always asking you to move away. Then they have these alarms that turn on when you are in a certain part. It is more like an austere place that shows art. The curator did a nice job on the future bodies exhibition but i am afraid the descriptions on the art works were a bit over the top (in English) and yes! The labels for the pieces keep you guessing where they are, sometimes they are on a totally different wall. For me it was not really worth 10€ and i would not go again. Plus, if you carry a totebag with just a small notebook, they will ‘make’ you deposit it and then you may not have change to put in the lock then you may have to go somewhere to get that change.

Nice space. Nice and cool inside. But just to warn as there is no communication on this. What looks like a vent around the entire gallery is actually an alarm sensor…It’s not a bad idea, but it’s poorly executed here with lack of communication, especially as they also put up wires around works making it less apparent that it’s an alarm which when it goes off sounds like a fire alarm. I bet the poor staff in there are constantly having to turn the alarm off

I was there by accident: I went to another museum and was attracted by architecture and some posters near the building. So i decided to pay a visit. In my humble opinion, the exhibites of this museum in most cases are just junk. But it is contemporary art and probably I just too dumb to understand it. So you can see here something new and strange, something that you have never experienced before, but in my case this new was pretty unpleasant, senseless and waste of time.

I think most people checking this museum would have made the decision already, and there's little I can add about it. However, I should say their exhibitions tend to be very good and while not the largest, they're no less impressive. Just two things to keep in mind: this museum is 1€ on Sundays, and bring change (1 or 2€) to place your jacket or bag in their locker rooms (they will not let you inside the galleries otherwise).

The building itself is a great modern architecture piece. The permanent exhibition has on display one of the best pop-art collections I've seen in Europe. However, after two visits 2 years apart, I feel that the temporary exhibitions aren't on par with the permanent exhibition, both in style and in quality.

A superb modern art collection and an excellent bookshop, loved it! Saw J.M. Basquiat's work for the 1st time in a real life and got properly untrodeced to Cy Twombly's work, too...Beautiful!

Sehr eindrucksvolles Museum zu moderner Kunst. Tolle wechselnde Einstellungen. Da muss man vorher schauen.

You get a tremendous amount of content for the price of ticket. Several very extensive wings of modern art, including a vast downstairs hall of historical works of fashion, furniture, and design. You could spend a long afternoon here for sure. The plaques on each room were very descriptive - in German and in English, which we appreciated.

Ein sehr schönes und modernes Museum! Die Ausstellung “This is Me, This is You” aus der Sammlung von Eva Felten, kann ich sehr empfehlen.

The Museum itself is quite nice architecturally. The space is curated mediocre in my opinion BUT service is poor and unfriendly. Wasn’t allowed to bring my bag to the showrooms with the sole explanation that my bag does not have a zipper and there are currently more than 1000 people in the showrooms??? Made no sense since other visitors were allowed to wear their winter coats and bags. Also a Lot of parents mistook the space for a playground. There was not a single showroom without a screaming, yelling or running child. Luckily I only paid 1€ otherwise I would have wanted a refund!!!

Amazing museum filled with 2 floors of incomprehensible contemporary art. Thank heavens for a floor of Cy Twombly to rescue the visit. Good cafe space with simple food and drink

Its a museum with 3 floors. There is a lift in case you can’t use the stairs. The exhibition was really good. Outside there is a nice garden and also many places to eat. On Sundays cost 1 euro the ticket :)

super awesome and a must for art&design freaks! if you're there go to the pinakotheke moderne maybe... allow some nice 2-3 hours for all floors, nice af!!!! traveled with lime e-scooters even in january, awesome bike lanes infrastructure, love it!!! we got along with googlemaps, check it and easily get there by U metro (I had a 16euro 1 week pass in central M zone) - and also before you leave your country you can download a local map of Munich, so you can use without 3G internet, only with GPS on your phone ;)

After buying tickets you could go downstairs and put your stuff in the lockers. Bathrooms are also there. Then you come up, enter the museum hallway and choose an exhibition upstairs or downstairs.

Stepping into the "This Is Me, This You" exhibition at Museum Brandhorst felt like embarking on a journey through the multifaceted lens of human experience. Curated from the Eva Felten Photography Collection, the showcase brings together over 400 works by 140+ artists, spanning decades and artistic movements. Each photograph acts as a window into a different life, emotion, or perspective, prompting introspection and challenging pre-conceived notions. Personally I was impressed by the young students explaining some of the pieces exposed. It was also amazing to see the photos of the young married couples looking really realistic and not happy at all. This impressed me a lot, to see these details. The exhibition is thoughtfully divided into seven thematic chapters, each exploring a distinct aspect of human interaction with photography. I found myself particularly captivated by most of the photos. Beyond the sheer volume and variety of photographs, what truly elevates the exhibition is its ability to spark dialogue and reflection. The works on display raise questions about the power dynamics inherent in photography, the authenticity of captured moments, and the very nature of "seeing" itself. Overall, "This Is Me, This Is You" is a remarkable exhibition that goes beyond mere aesthetics. It's a poignant exploration of humanity, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of identity, representation, and our relationship with the world around us.

Great great collection of contemporary art in a building that is art in itself. Just look at the building from the outside and you will understand why When it comes to the paintings be ready for color as well as photography and sculptures. It's worth going and seeing this collection. If you are on a tight budget you can make use of the 1 Euro Sunday fee.

This is a great museum. I got in for free, since I’m a student, but if I had to pay for the exhibition, I would not be leaving a Five Star review. There wasn’t as many exciting things as the other modern art museum, that is literally about 25 m from this one. The staff are very friendly and professional, but the art isn’t the greatest. They had a little bit of Warhol but not enough.

A nice and pleasant museum to spend time with children. The cafe is cosy, the service is polite and fast. On Sundays the ticket for adults is only 1 euro.

Quite a nice place, lockers in the basement are for free (small deposit only). Part of the exhibition is closed, however, so the entrance fee could be a little less. The art is great, so definitely a place to go if you are into modern art.

Very good, well organized and displayed exhibitions. A must-see if you like modern-, post-modern and contemporary art. On Sunday's the fee is just one Euro, so, take your time and stand the line. The museum’s shop is also good. The staff is very nice and helpful.

Beautiful, well lit, modern building with luxury materials and well finished design details. It’s a pleasure to visit it’s galleries or enjoy it’s cafe or bookshop. The upper galleries dedicated entirely to Cy Twombly, are a must for modern art lovers, a kind of sacred and final place to understand his oeuvre.

this museum was really special; i got to see the work of andy warhool, cy twombly, keith haring, and more! lovely staff, they required wearing an FFP2 mask and it was convenient (and beneficial i’d say) that the coffee shop sells them.

The largest Andy Warhol collection with over 120 pieces of art from the pop art legend. You will also find great atuff from Keith Haring and Basquiat among others.. Great space and fabulous architecture. Sunday entrance is only 1EUR!! Recommended for children as they distribute drawing blocks for free and stimulate interaction.

I was in this museum on Sunday. The price was 1 euro. I'm not a big fan of modern art and that exhibition confirmed my view. I recommend visit that museum to make your viev wider but be careful it can broke your mind

Very nice museum, good artworks on the upper floor, but -in my opinion- the ground floor and underground floor had kind of different things that I expected. Very cheap, definitely worth it

I first need to admit again and again that I really do not understand modern art and usually do not like most of it consequently. I have visited this one as with City pass I had free entrance. Some of exhibitions were interesting though and of course I knew of Andy Warhol. What I notice in all museums of contemporary art they are always very large and art on display is usually sparsely populated so there is lot of free space unlike in classical museums which are densely populated ... even too much in fact. Part of museum is permanent and part is changed over time. I do like architecture which is very simple and beautiful. Place you should visit while in Munich.

  • 5/5 Vita E. 8 months ago on Google
Cy Twombly is not for everybody. At least - not for me. It is a concept art. And that type of concept I don't really get . Meanwhile I see his influence on decor business: in Milano I saw a mirror ( for living room or bedroom) inspired by his roses. Very beautiful indeed. I put five stars: worth visiting anyway. On main floor you can also find Andy Warhol.

  • 4/5 Manoram A. 8 months ago on Google
It is definitely a good museum for modern and contemporary art- especially on Sundays when the entrance is 1 euro only. Things were very well spaced and curated in and interesting manner. There was no piece that absolutely ‘wowed’ me but that could just be me.

If you like contemporary art this is the museum for you. The museum is not too big compared to the other museums in the area (Pinakothek der Moderne, Alte Pinakothek) so this was the kind of museum that would be a perfect place to wander around when you don’t feel like spending too many hours. We spent around an hour here which was enough to cover the three floors.

The building itself is worth a visit. During our visit the ground floor was closed due to renovations. Therefore we spent a very nice time at the 1st, where Cy Twombly’s works match evenly with the huge and bright interiors.

Beautiful building and galleries. Interesting exhibitions. Nice location. I recommend

  • 5/5 Hira K. 1 year ago on Google
Has a brilliant permanent exhibition and an active programming for seasonal shows and great architecture . The museum stations a little cafe on the ground floor which is also quite better than some other museum cafes (although , I wouldn’t recommend ordering there since the location of the museum is prime and hosts some wonderful local cafes down the street). Also included : every Sunday, the ticket costs only 1 Euro

  • 5/5 Mark E. 1 year ago on Google
Put this one on your bucket list, while you're staying Munich. The exhibitions are always impressing and insane. Right now there's a exhibition about the development of the human body in art from the 50s till now. Certainly i would recommend to visit this one.

If the work of Cy Twombly needs to be called „art“, one must be high on drugs! The museum architecture is good. Unfortunately only Cy Twombly was open.
