A beautiful building next to the English garden, that also has a nice Café and terrace at the back. The architecture is grand, the exhibitions are changing so I cannot recommend it generally, but most times I've visited here they had a small one, a main one and sometimes an additional one at the archive section, and I only remember one time being somewhat disappointed. Last visit was truly amazing with a retrospective to a Swiss artist I didn't know before and a group exhibition that was very sassy. Large book shop at place as well.

Were in the exhibition “In Other Rooms”. The exhibition itself was great! However, we were only able to get tickets shortly before the end (7 p.m.). Unfortunately the staff wasn't particularly friendly. My friend didn't want to leave her 200€ shoes at the entrance so she took them in her hand. However, she was forbidden to do this and we were sent back. By the time we actually got to the exhibition (organizing lockers and shoes) it was already 7:20 p.m. There were queues at some rooms so we couldn't see everything, which was a bit of a shame. But we were very upset when we were asked to leave at 7:45 p.m. and the rooms were closed. We thought that was very cheeky given the fact that we had paid €14 for entry. We had assumed that we would be allowed to stay at least until closing time at 8 p.m. This really needs to be improved.

I went here for Fujiko Nakaya’s fog installation and I really enjoyed it. Very unique medium that I’ve never seen used before in art and it really gives you the sense of mystery and ungrounded disorientation that captures the essence of her message in art.

I always visit the exhibition during the week! If you fancy having a drink, the goldene bar is just behind the museum. It has a children workshop room on the ground floor.

One of my favourite museums in Munich because of their interesting contemporary exhibitions. Our last visit was to the Fujiko Nakaya fog exhibition which was an experience I’d recommend to anyone!

Discover art and experience it with all your senses. The current exhibition makes this possible. Young and old are invited to take part here. Parking is easily possible behind the house at the English Garden.

If you can only visit one museum in Munich, I would recommend Haus der Kunst. The exhibitions changed regularly. Last Sunday was the last day of Nebel Leben from Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya. She is practitioner of Japanese video art and famous for her fog sculptures. Can sculptures only be made of clay, mental, and wood? No, the fog changes every minute depending on the wind, temperature and atmosphere. As the last, the space was packed even we entered as one of the earliest. Another impressive exhibition was the research on snow crystal, which also found a variety of form under different circumstances. At Trace and Track room, you will be able to listen the tape recorded in 20 cities. So get ready to dive into the art world for 1.5h tour during the weekend! Please pay attention that Haus der Kunst does not belong to Museum program on sunday for 1 euro.

The exhibition "into new Dimensions" was phenomenal, entry was super quick and it was easy to take your luggage with you as you could just put it in a locker. It is particularly recommended for students, as they only pay a total of 5 euros for all the exhibitions in the building. That's what I call promoting culture. In general, the building is very impressive as it is super tall and built in an almost temple-like style.

Awesome place - we enjoyed the vast exhibit of installations that involved being a tactile part of the art. Very cool and would be fun for the kids. The upstairs works were interesting too. Very much worth the price of admission! bring a euro to use the storage locker (just a deposit, not a cost).

Wonderful exhibitions when we visited; really cutting edge stuff which won't be for everyone but a really good mix of contemporary art. Be sure and visit the bunker for some history too - you need to go out the museum at the back and into a basement door, which wasn't obvious to me. It's a non-commercial independent gallery with very reasonably priced tickets - I found the staff to be some of the most enthusiastic I've seen in galleries.

The building itself is worth visiting. A lot of history. It is a small exhibition and pricy. It depends on you how deep your are into the different exhibitions which change over time.

It's pretty small despite the huge building. There were two exhibits in the whole space and one small area about the history (sort of). I'm glad I went but would recommend waiting till 4pm on a Friday which is free entry, or was when I was there.

Impressive building, charming café inside and great location for a walk straight away. The current exhibitions weren't quite my cup of tea, but that's a matter of taste. I found it unwieldy that the tickets have to be scanned again for each exhibition, which quickly becomes annoying with a larger group.

A great experience every time! Great exhibitions and good descriptions! Unfortunately, there were a few complications with the security staff on our last visit and we weren't allowed into an exhibition half an hour before the end because “it wouldn't be worth it”. As a guest, I would have been happy to have the option to decide for myself whether and for how long it was worth visiting an exhibition! But I'm confident that it will be better next time!

Half of museum closed for preparation of new exhibit, no reduction in admittance fee. Only one lift available in entire building & that one was for freight. Thr Exhibits on view were without beauty, interest or meaning. Truly the worst I have ever experienced. Only the cafe was pleasant enough.

I was lucky to have been there on the first Thursday of the month when entry was free and also having a later closing time. The exhibits were unique and inspiring, would definitely recommend a visit if you happen to be in Munich.

Overpriced is my thought. Would I go there again maybe, depends on who’s exhibiting. Location is great. The gallery and exhibits change frequently so that’s one advantage of going. You won’t find the same thing twice probably.

We visited an exhibition today and encountered very unfriendly employees. We had a very pregnant woman with us and she was not allowed to take water into the exhibition; only after a long discussion was it just tolerated. Inside we were asked several times about the water, but of course they didn't believe us... In the exhibition we had a performance artist giving a tour in front of us and had to constantly wait behind the group. If I had known this beforehand, I would have booked a different time slot. Great exhibition, it deserves 5 stars P.S. You will receive a ticket for your wallet. But that doesn't work. You need the PDF. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Amazing display of art, exhibitions, installations from different artists and on various themes. This place is amazing you need to spare a good amount of time to visit this place. It is related pretty central in the city. Diring my visit, I could enjoy the work of different artists under the theme of Sweat, and one gallery was displaying amazing installations and work by Heidi Bucher. There is also a nice bookshop to buy small articles presents, books and postcards.

Fabulous event location - which btw I have outfitted several times as a freelance technician for various firms/events - this was SUMMER FEST/SPACE ODYSSEY. A Somewhat burningmanesque style future chic sans fire sculptures. Great music beautiful people Models galore hunky guys, an eye candy extravaganza. Events vary from Ginormously huge laser race events to staid art shows - check local listings for time and event status.

Definitely worth a visit. Haus der Kunst shows usually several exhibitions at once with a focus on modern art. Right next to the building is the Isarwelle (inner city surfer spot) as well as Hofgarten, which are popular with locals in the afternoon.

  • 4/5 Hannah W. 1 year ago on Google
Interactive exhibits in a convenient location near the English gardens. The Dumb Type exhibit was a unique visual and auditory experience but I did notice a lack of sensory warnings especially for the flashing lights in two of the pieces. The Fujiko Nakaya fog exhibit was a one of a kind experience and that was easily recognizable by the amount of people flocking to see the fog go off. Aside from these two notable exhibits, it was unclear on the website and brochures what other exhibits were on, or open. Language wise, there were translations for most of the pieces to English and a paper guide to assist as well. Would recommend buying tickets in advance as it did get busy with groups, and they were flexible with the student rates and discounts. Would recommend.

Nebel Leben exhibition is a must visit for those who are interested in experience-oriented art forms. The exhibition offers a unique Zen which requires a unique taste to appreciate it. If you're a climate change advocate then the interplay of nature and art would certainly be of interest to you.

Very high quality modern art museum with interesting temporary exhibitions. Here one by Fujiko Nakaya fog sculptures. It always worths a try! One euros on Sundays and late openings till 22. There's also a nice cocktail bar behind, good for post exhibition chats!😎

Two exhibitions for 12 euros. One is located downstairs in an old bunker that is really hard to reach with a stroller. At the end it wasn't even worth it - it looks like you are wondering around an old toilet. The building is impressive though. But really, check what exhibitions they have before you go there.

(Translated by Google) Today I visited the exhibition "Shifting Perspectives" by Franz Erhard Walther in the Haus der Kunst. The aspect of activating the work in the middle room of the exhibition was particularly interesting. Before entering and after leaving the exhibition, questionnaires about the artist and his exhibition and their effect on one's own mood were distributed. Thanks to the day ticket, I then visited Michael Armitage's "Paradise Edict", in which many of his works (oil paintings on Lubugo) on animals, East African landscapes and political issues were shown. The last part of the exhibition presented 70 other works by East African artists. Finally, I visited the exhibition "Brainwashed", in which numerous short film installations presented the mainstream pop-cultural phenomenon.

(Translated by Google) Hello, we didn't like the House of Art at all, although we already enjoy and successfully deal with art at school and as a hobby. It is partly due to the exhibition; We knew that it would be very modern and abstract, but we couldn't do anything with simple letter figures and monochrome cloths on the walls, videos of an involuntary jumble of colors and mini unspectacular objects on shelves. In addition, the cashier was unfriendly and the entrance fees were very high compared to other museums. When we were inside, nothing was really signposted, we often stood in front of locked doors, the staff sometimes couldn't help us and didn't know what to do. Of the 5 announced exhibitions, one large one was not open (despite the same admission price), the other was still full of these cloths, one exhibition could not be entered from the building (was accessible from the outside through a back entrance through a cellar, very confusing and only visible as we came from the park) one was a shop and one was ok but very small. Conclusion: One star, because the staff in the museum were mostly very friendly (despite not having a clue) and the entrance area was nicely designed. Activating the work with story lines was also an interesting experience. I would only recommend Haus der Kunst if you like the current exhibition.

(Translated by Google) Today we came to the "Shifting Perspectives" exhibition especially at the time of so-called activation. Unfortunately, both the title of the exhibition and the advertisement for it ("Get closer") are more than misleading. Only a fraction of the exhibited works can be activated by visitors. Most of them have to be kept at a distance for conservation reasons. And this although the texts on the works of art in almost every room explain that the works are only completed by the addition of the human body and that the artist's great achievement consists in this very new work concept, which lures the recipient out of passivity. Unfortunately, the Haus der Kunst has a more antiquated work concept than the exhibited artist, because what is offered here is not Walther's art, it is its preserved relics. In this way, the exhibition turns into a kind of mausoleum, in which one can imagine the real power of art and recall the historical potency of the now dead objects. Missed Opportunity! It is also downright grotesquely out of date that Franz Erhard Walther's first wife, Johanna Walther, made the fabric objects that make up the majority of the exhibition, but which are presented here solely under the artist's name.
