Nice place for a family funday. We spent an hour walking round looking and stroking the horses and the kids groomed the horse for £5. I was very cold so decided to have our lunch in the cafe very reasonably priced and get what you pay for! Would recommend if you live near and want to support the local charity.

We absolutely love visiting HAPPA at Shores Hey Farm. Our most recent visit was on Sunday 19th December. We visited as a family of four plus daughter's friend. £5 donation entry and a few pounds for a craft pack which included a reindeer trail around the farm with clues. Once completed this could be handed in for a stationery gift at Reception. Children really enjoyed it. The craft room also has model ponies that can be brushed, tacked up and you can have a practise with a microchip scanner. The horses and ponies are really well cared for and it's nice to read each one's story on their stable door. The wooden outdoor playground was loved by the children too. To top off our visit we enjoyed a beautiful lunch in the cafe. Andy, the Cafe and Kitchen Manager had very kindly replied to my message late the previous night after I'd forgotten to book a table and assured me he would reserve one. A lovely, cosy atmostphere and super friendly staff. The food was delicious, a great portion and good value for money. We ordered the cooked breakfast, salt and pepper chicken and chips in a basket and 3 kids meals of chicken goujons and fries. For dessert myself and my husband had a chocolate orange cheescake and a Ferrero rocher cheesecake and children had ice cream ( Mrs Dowson's). Overall brilliant few hours out and we would visit much more often if it was closer. Fortunately they have a very active social media and regularly post things on their Facebook page to keep you updated.

The sudden change in weather did not spoil a fantastic family afternoon with our favourite animals!! Lovely to see all the ponies looking so healthy or on the way to recovery. Saw a pony having her first bath with patient, loving staff. All the staff are wonderful and very willing to share the ponies' characters and stories. Finished off our rainy afternoon at the very nice cafe, again, lovely staff. A very worthwhile charity.

Such a brilliant afternoon at HAPPA! The entrance fee is such a bargain, we'd have been happy paying that each! The team do a brilliant job and are all so friendly! We didn't eat there but the cafe looked fabulous too.

Absolutely blown away by the helpfulness of the staff here. Massive shout out to Lauren and her colleagues in the cafe who went way above and beyond to help our whole family when my Autistic son had a huge meltdown at HAPPA. They even provided us with a quiet room for a period. The stable staff were all communicating by radio as my son was in crisis. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation with us on a very very difficult day.

Lovely setting, so peaceful. Cafe has friendly staff and serves tasty food. A meal, a breakfast (amazing and huge!) or just coffee and cake. You can visit the current equine residents for a small donation and it's nice to see their progress over time. All the staff do a fabulous job and Shores Hey Farm is well worth a visit :)

Always my go to dining and petting experience for Birthdays and special occasions. Food excellent with good vegetarian choice. Huge portions so often take half of my plate home. Very reasonable prices. Then the wonderful ponies you can pet and new foals you can see which arrived a few months ago are always a delight. Good shop and fun park for the children. Good to visit even on a grey day as petting ponies in Barn. Keep up the good work guys.

Well worth a visit to the cafe even if you don't love horses and ponies. Excellent food and service with a relaxed cafe/bistro feel and good value for money. We had a wonderful afternoon tea.

Lovely place to visit, they do great work rescuing the horses and let you visit to look around and see all of the horses & pony's etc Visited as a kid and have fond memories of going and would love to visit again soon as an adult! Always worth supporting a good cause!

If you like horses or just looking to do something different it's worth a visit, not very big but yet there is a fair few horses to see. There is also a shop with toys clothing and tack. They have a nice cafe on site with snacks and meals.

We came here last week for a meal for the first time. Staff were lovely and friendly. Service was quick and efficient. The food was tasty and hot, definitely worth the pricing. We had our newborn so I used the baby change which was in the disabled loo and very clean and accessible. As we've not been there before I was unsure about breastfeeding. There were some lovely comfy armchair style seats but this area was very full so we decided to base ourselves away from others on some bar stool seating which wasn't ideal. If it is a breastfeeding friendly cafe putting up the bf friendly venue sticker in the window would be helpful then noone needs to ask but knows if they are confronted they will be supported by staff. Not a complaint, just a suggestion ☺️it was a v.miserable day weather wise so we didn't look around but we'll definitely be back for food and to see the horses with our little boy on a better day weather wise.

I've loved visiting HAPPA ever since I was really young, and I still love it as an adult! Such a great place to wander around petting horses and ponies and learning about the amazing work that HAPPA do.

Great cafe with extensive choice of excellent food. Some rescued horses to look at as well if you - or the kids- like that sort of thing. We pop in there quite a lot as it is a great destination for an afternoon stroll.

Great for kids loads going on. Only five pounds for up to 6 people which is great. And it helps them look after horses. The shop is good and the cafe is quite nice. All the staff seem friendly. And its educational for children. There is a small park/play area and there is disabled parking.

One of my favourite goto places for connecting with the majestic beasts that have suffered at the hands of humans in the most appalling neglectful way... But yet still trust and give affection... All down to the recovery and rehabilitation given by the staff and volunteers at this sanctuary. Very special place. Brill cafe and gift shop.

What a fantastic experience! What a beautiful place too! Our food was impeccable, we had the Cheese & Onion Pie 😋 Staff are amazing at delivering outstanding service with an attentive and warming welcoming. So much to choose from their menu too. I definitely advise a slice of cake to finish with great tasting coffee. The cafe layout is beautiful, with large window views over the farm landscape. If you haven’t tried this place yet, then I can certainly vouch that you’re definitely missing out.x

Good place to take your grandchildren. Able to pet some of the horses. Interesting to read why the horses and ponies have been rescued and how they have recovered. Only £6.00 for the family group to visit. Nice cafe with a extensive menu. Disability accessible.

Friendly, well-run place with well cared for Horses and Ponies. Nice details about their backgrounds and care. Lovely, reasonable café with far too much to choose from. The girls enjoyed sitting on a saddle for their lunches! They recommend the waffles, whilst I had a breakfast. Our day was capped off with a play in the enclosed adventure playground and a visit to the well-stocked shop.

Nice place to visit and have a look at the rescued horses and the work HAPPA are doing to re-home as many as possible. The cafe alone is worth the drive for the building and the excellent food.

For a very hearty lunch in a very pleasant atmosphere, with the opportunity to say hello to some horses and see them being cared for. Very disability friendly. I went there wearing a knee brace and often see wheelchair users there.

We went to visit the cafe, the food is good and wholesome , very reasonably priced. If you go when there is a horse event on, be careful where you park as, a female horse person was quite nasty because we parked near her horse box!

High on the hills above Burnley is a cafe that is situated at HAPPA (Horses and ponies protection association) the modern building is light and airy and is on two floors it has a lift from the car park to both floors. The cafe is both child and dog friendly small children can sit on saddles and eat their meal. We called at lunch time and I chose the cheese pie with chips with beans there is quite a good choice, there is also a breakfast menu if you come earlier in the day along with lots of nice cakes for the afternoon. Would I call again? Yes I would

Visited today with my 4 children to see Santa, can’t recommend enough! The boys absolutely loved it. My daughter has additional needs, santa and the staff were absolutely amazing with her and were extremely accommodating. Santa saw her 3 times and made her at ease! She hasn’t stopped talking about the visit all day. Amazing job from the team! Thank you for a wonderful experience :)

Was quite disappointed with our 1st visit, nobody about to ask for info or speak too about the horses, every single horse in their stables (bar a mum/foal) they were all stood staring at the walls or the floor which looked odd and I didn't know why & nobody to ask, we'd walked round in 10 minutes and my son spent 10 minutes on the park, we'd been and gone within 25 minutes. Not sure what I expected but it definitely wasn't this.

Happa cafe. Stunning building with decent views from the 1st floor. Confusing opening times. Website says 10am but signs on the doors and top of driveway indicating 11am. Nearly turned straight back home. No clear main cafe entrance. We ordered 2 small breakfasts. Excellent value for money under a fiver each. Excellent staff. Breakfast was good value. My latte had an odd texture and taste. My friend's tea wasn't great either. Need to re visit to try something different.

Great equine rescue centre, with nice cafe. Events on all year round

  • 1/5 David B. 2 years ago on Google
Not impressed. Not for the first time.. Was on an afternoon walk. Knowing they close at 3.30 called just before walking down the lane. Was told it was closing at 3.00 due to the snow. Arrived at the café at 2.26 only to be told they were already closed. Explained we had only called 10 minutes previously. I understand closing early due to weather, but to be told having already called ahead, that they are closed when they were still supposed to be open was unacceptable and the weather was improving. This is not the first time and I have always supported HAPPA, but no more.

Lovely morning at HAPPA, spent an hour walking round seeing the horses and stroking them. You learn their name and their journey to HAPPA on their stable door. Friendly staff around, with a one way system with Covid. All horses/ponies look extremely well looked after. Will be back again very soon I'm sure, though the booking system :)

Its lovely to see all the rescued horses, even though many of them have a sad story to tell. But you can go round to see them all and pet them. The cafe has been refurbished since I last went some years ago. The menu has a range of choices, including vegetarian and vegan options, with really reasonable prices, and offers throughout the week. Plus the food is fab!

We went on Saturday arrived around 11-30 walked around the horses we were grandparents with 20 month old and parents who had traveled up the previous day from Leicester seeing the horses with the little one was a real treat he loved it how ever when we visited the café it was a completely different experience we ordered a small breakfast and three sandwiches nearly one hour later every one around us that ordered after us had been served eaten there food and left we on the other hand was still waiting to be served.we got a refund and left and won't be returning this is the second extremely poor experience we've had at this establishment think the management need to have a good look at who and how this restaurant is run gave it two stars Purley on the basis of the stables
