Are you looking for an authentic yet affordable Japanese in the heart of Leeds City Centre? Fuji Hiro is your top choice. We recently discovered this hidden gem embedded within Merrion Centre. Upon entering the restaurant, the restaurant's interior immediately transports you to Japan! All the dishes were delicious, served hot and fresh! We can’t recommend enough of their signature Shrimp Vegetable Tempura Soba (Mixed vegetables and shrimp with tempura batter and noodles). It is very popular among the locals, so call to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. We can’t wait to go back again.

I know no one is going to believe this review but I just can’t believe the other reviews I’m reading. This is The Best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been in my life. I’ve been to many restaurants and honestly, this was so unexpected. The quality and presentation of the dishes are so high above what you would expect from this price range. The service also, the waiter was swift and he could speak every language imaginable. Wish I lived in Leeds to come here very often. Again, the best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. And this is coming from a guy whose never bother to leave a good review anywhere.

Fantastic place. Ramen noodles the best I’ve have in Leeds. Small and intimate atmosphere. A real hidden gem in the city.

Tasty food. Served quickly. No frills service. Felt like the place could do with a bit of a clean. Worth going for the food, but don’t go for a special occasion. Will definitely go again for the food as a take away. Good range of vegetarian food, just make sure to say you don’t want egg noodles

Can't come recommended highly enough for fans of Japanese cuisine. Truly authentic and the quality of the food is to die for. If you've had ramen elsewhere at chain restaurants, you haven't had it properly until you've tried it here. I'd also recommend having a deep dive into their sides menu for things like yakitori, kaarage and takoyaki, or speaking to them about the new sushi bar they have. The staff are very helpful and friendly and will usually offer a recommendation if you're a bit lost (the menu is quite large and daunting if it's your first trip). It's a very traditional setup inside (chopsticks & small bowls) although they'll happily give you cutlery if you ask. It's also quite a small venue, which can make sitting larger groups difficult but I've never found any issues. I used to visit frequently as a student in the city and I always make a point of going whenever I'm back in the city during a year - it's just that good.

Being Japanese, I have a higher standard of Japanese food than most in England. And Fuji Hiro didn’t disappoint - their Katsu-Don was the best I’ve eaten in Leeds. The whole menu is very authentic, probably being the most authentic varied menu of Japanese food in Leeds. The Okonomiyaki sticks were also a highlight and came garnished with the correct Japanese Mayo and okonomiyaki sauce. Most restaurants offer free green tea in Japan, so It was great to see this offered in Fuji Hiro. And they even had traditional Japanese music playing too. If you’re looking for really authentic, tasty Japanese dishes such as Katsu-don without any pretentiousness, then this is the best place for you. The Katsu-don was legitimately as good as you’ll find in Japan.

I would say that ramen and sushi was fantastic 👍👍👍 it was my first experience in Japanese food and I am definitely would go again. Highly recommend this place. And the prices are brilliant. Per person you would maximum spend £10-15 and you will be very full and totally enjoyed the food and drinks. Love it.

Fantastic food, very very tasty and fresh. I enjoyed chicken gyōza and Japanese chicken katsu curry bento box, really high quality and I could easily eat there every day.

Absolutely lovely food!! The chef prepared the dishes with such care and attention to detail, we were impressed by the presentation of the sushi and bento box, which were delicious 😋 My favourite was the Salmon Tataki, soft in the middle and crispy outside with a layer of sesame seeds! Would order this anytime again!

Disappointing, soggy, tasteless. Fried pork cutlet should be crispy and most but my pork katsu don almost certainly had been pre cooked and reheated based on the soft texture, mushy batter, and grayish colour to the meat. The rice was standard long grain without seasoning, not Japanese rice, so it wasn't sticky and was difficult to grab with chopsticks. We waited about 45 minutes for disappointment but got off lucky as others waited an hour. As someone incapable of passing the marshmallow test, I was shocked that I left over half uneaten and sat untempted to even pick at it as we were forgotten about while waiting to pay.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Leeds! We ordered Seafood Ramen (changed to udon) and yakisoba meal deal. Love the meal deal! Around £15 for 1 starter, yakisoba and beer! We chose ebi katsu as our starter, and we love it so much🌷 Forgot to mention, the vegetable broth was amazing! Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Will come back soon.

The food was very tasty. However, as a party of 4, it was all served at different times and took a very long time to come out. Mine had arrived after everyone else had almost finished theirs. The restaurant wasn't too busy as was a Sunday early afternoon. Staff are friendly. Prices are pretty fair. I'll definitely be back to try again as I'm sure this must have been a blip. Have general heard positive things but can only rate based off my own experiences.

Would highly recommend getting a booking if you want to dine in on a weekend. The ramen was delicious. They forgot my takoyaki which I assume was because they were so busy. When it arrived it was warm. The filling was cold octopus. I've always had octopus cooked first and added into the takoyaki when it was warm. They may serve a different style of takoyaki but it wasn't for me.

Really disappointing. Twenty years ago this place was amazing. Even just over a year ago this place was still amazing. However, now, this place is average at best. It used to be heaving, but it was dead when I went in - should have been a bit of a giveaway. The menu has physically changed, which is fair… but there were no detailed descriptions of the meals anymore. The food wasn’t a patch on what it used to be. Sad to say after all these years, I will not be retuning. I’m hoping there are better Japanese cafes in Leeds now.

terrible service! we waited for the order to be accepted 30 minutes when only 4 tables were occupied. of course the waitress forgot to bring the beer. in general, waiter service lowers the quality of this place. The sushi chef is very inflated. sushi very good carefully presented.

Delicious! Food took a while to come but I don't begrudge that when they have so many sushi options to prepare. Had some sushi and then a peanut and chilli noodle dish that was lovely.

All in all not match average taste and appearance. Dishes seasoning slightly salty. Sashimi is not that fresh. Ramen is not good even broth is not good. Staffs not shown attendance on serving. empty glass not ask for drink and empty plates not collect through about 20mins. Not come again.

I've been to Fuji Hero a good many years back as I don't come up to Leeds often, but I had the urge to go again and I love the food, the choice and authenticity. Had the toki Kara age which was beautifully fried, crispy yet tender bites of chicken and Fuji Hero ramen, which was a seafood forward broth with a bit of everything in it, was very well done and balanced in flavours and well presented.

Affordable Japanese lunch in Leeds🥢🍜🍗 @fujihiroleeds is a cozy Japanese restaurant outside the Merrion Centre. The portions were generous and price was reasonable. Quality and portion size are far way better than many Japanese chain restaurants. Generally, I found the taste of dumpling, yakisoba & ramen tended to be Chinese style. Not authentic Japanese but definitely a good choice for lunch. Follow me on Instagram @ccgyozalover for more delicious foods🤗
