Great place for a not so long a walk. Good variety of birds; there is something different each time we go. Today we saw a couple of Great Blue Herons.

Very nice entrance to the canal. Seems to be well maintained and they're a rails to help you get into your kayak or canoe. There is a parking lot fee that you have to pay in season.

Such a nice walk! Flat, clean, even a clean bathroom. We scrambled to find $8 in cash topay for parking - no credit cards or phone payments accepted - you must deposit a pay envelope. You have to cross a street once. Threre quite a few bikers on the trail but people are nice and share the trail.

This is a nice, well maintained gravel tail that follows a section of the canal. It has many homes that back up to it so be respectful of private property, there are some signs reminding everyone of this also.

The trailhead at the southern end of the Assawoman Canal is a clean & comfortable place to start your walk (hike would be too strong a word). There is not much to say about the trailhead itself, but it has a good map of the area. The map shows not just the canal but many other nearby trails and nature preserves, a great resource for figuring out other fun things to do. The only difficulty for the trailhead is access is right off a very busy street, and there isn't a huge amount of shade. Once you enter the trail itself, that will change of course, but it might not be the most pleasant commute outside of a car. The walk is a mile out and and a mile back, very pleasant and very flat. For a nice summer day in the peak beach season, it was notable how few people we passed. There were some bikers and some other walkers, but for the most part we had the place to ourselves. We will definitely be back as it was an easy and stroller-accessible way to spend the morning.

September 2022 Nice, flat, mostly-shaded trail that is great for a walk, hike, or bike ride. It's short but it's a great path I use when biking around Bethany.

Quiet little trail following a canal in Ocean View. It was a Tree-lined, pleasant walk on a sunny day. Maintained, (not muddy) gravel trail. Wished they'd cut down the trumpet vines and other invasive vines killing the trees.

Very nice dock for launching kayaks! I fought a strong current going to white river an hour after high tide. Not sure how to time tidal flow yet. I might head to salt pond on next trip.
