Fantastic museum, i guess it is among the top sights in Athens! I attached lots of photos as the exhibition is just so amazing! So bright inside, loveable atmosphere, loads of history and arts! Ticket costs only €5 in the winter time. They have a cafe inside with the most amazing view over the Acropolis hill. People are very kind here! Mesmerizing spot ♥️

One visit to this extraordinary modern museum is not enough! Scan a QR code at the entrance and you will get detailed audio explanations on selected items. Don’t forget to bring your air pods! I love the terrace, it’s a kind of Magic, the Acropolis in front of your eyes.

Surely one of the world’s best museums. Even though it’s €10 entry, it is great value. I spent 4 hours here, it was so fascinating. You can learn a lot here. The objects are very well looked after and the space itself is quite beautiful. The staff are bullies though, a little bit. I think perhaps they know they are in a truly incredible place and get too excited about that. There is a bonus archaeological excavation under the building as part of the ticket. Don’t forget to take a photo of the Acropolis outside the restaurant on the second floor.

It contains a lot of original pieces from the acropolis. The building's design is very thoughtful. The circulation inside is easy. It's oriented in a way that keeps a visual connection with the acropolis hell in the background. It's a modern building that suits very well in the historical context. Must visit.

Can easily spend an entire day in the museum. Lots of historical items to see. The book shop sells books in multiple languages. On one of the floors, there is a cafe/restaurant if you need to take a break or when you bring along children to the museum. Purchase the ticket(s) on the museum's website in advance, and you will be able to enter the museum once you've arrived.

The Acropolis Museum in Athens is a breathtaking tribute to ancient Greece's architectural and artistic brilliance. Its modern design seamlessly blends with the historical context, offering visitors an immersive journey through time. The meticulous curation of artifacts, coupled with the museum's panoramic views of the Acropolis itself, creates an awe-inspiring experience. Each exhibit tells a compelling story of Greek civilization, from the Parthenon marbles to intricate sculptures. With informative displays and a captivating ambiance, the Acropolis Museum stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of classical Athens. A must-visit for anyone seeking to unravel the mysteries of ancient Greek culture.

Highly recommend this place to visit in Athens! The museum is designed to be visitor friendly and in modern style. The statues were vivid and many of them are with color, and reveals lots of interesting and surprising facts. I did not expect Athena is with red hair since her impression in my mind is simply made of marbles and in white. Besides the exhibitions, there is a fabulous rooftop bar on the second or third floor, on which you can have a good view of the Acropolis! Besides, the gift shop can be a good shopping place. The small statues, clothe handbags and the dictionaries are made delicately!

This obvious stop on every visitor’s list is not only a treasure trove of classical art but is also host to temporary exhibitions that are usually overlooked. They are a smallish collection of ancient art from mostly European museums, and will take around one hour to enjoy. Be sure to book your tickets to skip the very long lines of the museum visitors. Also plan your visit to the cafe and restaurant on the second floor with great views of the Parthenon.

(Translated by Google) Nice cave with a perfect view to the Mediterranean. It was once closed with railings, but someone has broken down the gate and whoever wants to can enter. Beautiful stalactites especially in the depth of the left side. It needs attention because in some places it slips (especially in winter and spring), while it also has some precipices, closed with metal screens, but anyway it needs attention since they are not well fixed). The local tradition named the cave because of the lion that was supposed to have its nest there and which was later marbled in Katza. It is still preserved after 2500 years, placed as a lion's epitaph on the tomb of the Kouros of Athens. The cave measuring 50 by 20 meters has been used as a sanctuary in historical times and there are findings from the 4th and 5th millennium BC, which is why it is protected due to paleontological interest. Unfortunately, brainless people have painted football teams' signals at points of entry. while others make sure to throw their trash after visiting the cave. So, we don't leave rubbish, and if we can, we take the other people's rubbish to the city. Loved the aetufacts in here, and how the top floor is oriented to the direction of the Acropolis so you can get a feel of how it would have been. The archaeological site underneath is amazing too. Great computer fun knowledge games for kids too.

Fantastic amazing modern architecture absolutely loved the museum which was placed protectively above the ancient ruins below. Lunch was gorgeous sitting on the cantilevered canopy above the entrance and below the Acropolis. The artifacts enclosed are beautifully and imaginatively displayed. Definitely worth a visit when in Athens. Awesome!

A beautiful modern museum, full of history and with a great atmosphere. The exhibits are priceless, of course, and the way they are presented is fabulous, giving immediately the feel of how/why/where they were situated in antiquity. The number one feature of this museum is the location and the 360º view around it. It is located under the Acropolis and the big windows are giving a nice view of the surrounding centre of Athens city. The restaurant on the balcony is of very high culinary standards and the view is superb. A "must go" place if you visit Athens.

GREAT MUSEUM, MUST GO! Only €10 admission. You get to be up really close to the statues and artifacts. They have both original artifacts as well as reconstructed ones. The museum does an excellent job educating the public and giving the history of Athens, the Acropolis, and the Parthenon. There are a couple of short movies as well on the third floor that are excellently directed which give the history of the artifacts. There's also a great view of the Parthenon from the third floor. Since it's open late, until 10pm, you can go after you spend the whole day at the Acropolis. I had a beautiful nighttime view of the Acropolis up close and lit up. It was amazing!

We visited in February, on a Friday afternoon +evening (we spent 6hours inside). One of the best museums we've ever been to, totally worth the 10€ entrance. There surely are aspects to improve, for example there are no vending machines, only an expensive restaurant. The path to follow is not very clear and the object description could be bigger, better placed and give more information (besides just describing what our eyes are seeing). Nonetheless, it gets 5stars from us, it's an amazing, modern building, well designed with an impressive collection. The view on the acropolis as well as the excavations below are priceless. The museum shop also has some interesting souvenirs. The cloakroom and audio guide on your own smartphone are free of charge!

A must visit in Athens! I’d say, even for people not visiting museums on a regular it is worth to visit this museum! There is a big area underneath the building itself, which you can have a look at for free. The single ticket for the museum itself is 15 Euros. There are 3 floors full of old ancient tools, vases, figures, statues, parts of pillars. It’s an amazing collection of antique parts they’ve found and reconstructed. It’s also worth mentioning they’ve set all the parts in the same way the old Parthenon is constructed. So on the top floor you will find all the parts from the roof of the Parthenon. This was stunning, to see how wide the roof was and how big the parts and monuments were. We visited the museum on a Friday late afternoon around 5pm (open until 10pm on Fridays), there was no waiting line on the ticket booth. But we saw lot of people waiting in a long queue on Sunday early afternoon, be aware of that! We had a look at a lot of things and it took us around 2 hours for it.

It's beautiful and clean but all the people are taking photos (it's forbidden though) and this way you can't observe the object. The description of a piece of art is only understandable for those who knows the Greek mythology and the architecture technical words. The terrace is nice plus the excavation area is cool to check.

By the waysome coherent pomegranates are thought of simply as peaches. Apricots are splendid spiders. They were lost without the tidy goat that composed their tiger! It's an undeniable fact, really; some posit the sedate pomegranate to be less than intellectual. Few can name a good chimpanzee that isn't a self-disciplined kangaroo. The honest seal comes from a decorous bird. A deer sees a nectarine as a sociable lemon! An ant is the chimpanzee of an alligator. This is not to discredit the idea that the literature would have us believe that an enchanting apple is not but a lion. We can assume that any instance of a hamster can be construed as a righteous cheetah!

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately it is completely destroyed. It is named after a legend about a lion that lived there and eventually marbled outside the church of St. Nicholas. Inside is a very rare form of mushroom-like stalactite.

A fantastic museum. The Acropolis mountain is the main attraction but this is a great way to follow up a visit there. I’m no expert/enthusiast on archeology but I still really enjoyed this museum and would 100% recommend. Visiting is free on Sundays so aim to go then if your on a budget!

I absolutely loved the visit here! For Greek students is free, as I was in Erasmus I didn’t have to pay :) I discovered so many interesting stories about the Ancient Greek culture. Inside you’ll have breathtaking viewpoints from their 360 windows. It’s one of most modern museum I’ve ever seen there. There’s also a bar inside with a pretty big balcony and of course with a surprising view!

Really, really high accolades to the team that put this together. Wish I had more time to spend here, so I could learn more. I'd recommend getting a guided tour. A beautiful architectural marvel includes a large window around the parameter that always seems to reflect the actual Parthenon. There is a cafe on the third floor with a large patio that doesn't require paid admission. However, it was stated they were open until 12 am but was closed up by 11:30.

It’s a very good museum. The museum feels very open even when there are large crowds in there. I would recommend to use a tour to go through the museum as they will curate the history well. Otherwise you will be only looking at statues without context. There is a large portion of the Parthenon on the third floor which should not be missed. You will also get a good view of the Parthenon from this floor. The museum is well built with some archaeological ruins beneath the museum floor which can be seen though then glass flooring. Overall a great visit. Again make sure to use a tour guide so that you can understand what you are viewing and opportunity to skip the line.

Amazing museum, the architecture and design are magnificent. It is built over the ancient ruins of the town, which you can see it from above through the glass panels as you walk through as well. Huge collection of artifacts, all showcased elegantly. The staff are helpful even at the busiest of times. The whole building is made out of glass which gives amazing views to Athens town and the Acropolis. There's a great view of the Parthenon from level 3 and from the Cafe which has indoor and an outdoor patio. A must see before heading up the hill to the Acropolis!

A little hyped but worth a visit. The building is maybe more spectacular than the contents with much use of glass flooring to show off excavations. Strange rules on photography, so be aware some items may not be photographed, although there is a lack of warnings. The National archeological museum has far superior contents and should be your first choice. Do not miss it. Visit here only if you have time.

A must when in Athens... even if just for a quick stop or overnight... while the North Slope is closed for restoration it will still take about 3 hours to really SEE and appreciate where you are walking and who walked the same paths before you... Myth and legend entwine to reality still very much alive today. Visit before 10am if you want to have no people in you pics... the back entrance by Museum is easier to get to, no climb before the climb. Yes you will be climbing.... it's a sight to see but BE WARNED... This is not for people with walkers, canes, hip replacements, knee replacements etc... the ground is VERY LOOSE ROCK, worn slippery marble.. some areas are cemented for walking but very limited... I saw a few people fall and not just those that have mobility restraints.

The museum is really interesting. Not sure why it has been built over an archaeological site but it's amazing to get so close to the dig. Beautiful items from the Acropolis on display and i really liked that they has plaster casted the huge amounts of missing pieces into the real ones. Stunning sculptures and fascinating history. No photography allowed in one side of the second floor so watch out for that!

Fantastic museum. The layout is amazing. You have ancient Athens literally on the ground floor, which you can view through the floor of the museum in a number of spots, or simply walk down to the location through a side entrance. The online ticket is great to skip lines not to mention you can pay an extra 5€ to get an audio tour of the museum. Totally worth it in my opinion. I’d also recommend going at night if you can. Something about the white interior and art combined with the dark backing of the night sky through the giant windows that lets you focus even more.

This place amazed me! Building a modern building architecture over historical attraction. In this I mean, they built building over the ancient bath, that is accessible on Ground floor outside. The amount of history and knowledge given by this place,we did not have an audio guided tour and it was still great. The museum is fairly large it would take a couple of hour to walk through it all! So go early! The layout of the museum we're very well thought and designed. The view, in which ever side or whatever level is only an addition the museum great knowledge. Whether you do this first before or after the Acropolis, it would be great information to then consolidate your knowledge about the Acropolis.

Perfect archaeological museum which explains the Greek mythology and Greek history. The museum built on top of acropolis archaeological site without single crack on it. I'm sure you will amaze about ancient civilization houses and city structure with proper sewage system. The Acropolis museum has some great artifacts of the old Acropolis and it is very interesting. Especially the woman of the Erechteion, the history of the Parthenon, the miniature of the Acropolis throughout the years and the real pieces of the Parthenon were beautiful. It is a totally different building in Athens because it is very modern, especially in comparison with the rest of the city. Besides the museum has a great view of the Acropolis.

I highly recommend a guided tour at this museum! It is a very informative and an interesting experience. Especially the top floor holds a “surprise” for visitors! Also the view from some halls is amazing. Sine all windows were clean, we were able to take some very nice pictures with a great background.

Excellent museum to learn about the Acropolis. Museum is a beautiful architectural design. From the outside, the top museum windows reflect on the Acropolis. There are glass floors outside & inside the museum - the outside floors look down into the ruins below. The ruins are open to walk through after the last group of visitors at 4:30pm. Get a tour deal that includes both the museum & the Acropolis - you won't be disappointed. We went Mid-March, & just as they opened the doors in the morning, so no crowds.

The museum is well thought out. They've arranged if the exhibits in the way that they would show up on the Parthenon, north, south, east and west. I especially liked the excavation exhibit which you just use your ticket for the museum to get into. When they excavated to build the Acropolis museum they came upon ruins of a bathhouse public restrooms and multiple houses including a couple of mansions. The museum is built on top of this with glass flooring on the first floor and outside of the museum so you can see the excavations of these structures, it's really fascinating.

Incredibly well presented in a modern and unique way, the Acropolis Museum is a wonderful appetizer for visiting the real thing. Although the museum was moderately crowded in May, the ticket and entrance lines moved quickly. The cafe was a nice respite before venturing outside into the heat. Clean and tasty, stay as long as you’d like while enjoying a view of the Parthenon and Lycabettus.

I loved all of the artifacts and exhibits on three different floors. What I found most intriguing was the excavation under the museum. It could be viewed through parts of the museum floor or more accessible down the walkway outside. Additionally, I liked the fact it had a cafe, gift shop, plenty of seating, and Lego blocks children's exhibit. I always recommend buying tickets online when possible, however, it also depends on the season. In my case, there was no wait time.

Great museum, the architecture and design are well done. It is built over the ancient ruins of a town, so be sure to see go down and see the ruins (accessed from outside the entrance of the museum). You can see it from above through glass panels as you walk through as well. One thing to note though, is there are glass floors on multiple levels and people visiting can look up above, so probably a good idea not to wear a dress to this. There's a great view of the Parthenon from the Cafe which has indoor and an outdoor patio. A great place to get photos!

Huge collection of beautiful Greek marbles and more. Definitely a must see. The curation of the museum is also amazing, it is designed to represent the same shape as the acropolis so you can get a feel for how things would have actually looked.

Great Museum. I really enjoyed the visit, some information: you are not able to eat or drink while walking around but you can eat or order something at the restaurant on the 3d floor. The museum was very interesting and i would recommend visiting the acropolis, before going here because it helps you imagine what it would have looked like thousands of years ago. There is a cloak room just before the start of the museum so you can put your bags or coats there if you do not want to carry them around while walking. Great Museum and would definitely recommend.

Really nice and new museum. A shame that a lot of the original pieces were plundered by the British, french, and others…. Or destroyed in previous wars and such. But mostly a shame about the plunder, that could have been avoided and can be resolved… The lower level with the excavations is really cool. Really worth the visit. Gives you a great sense of how these houses and workshops worked. The restaurant has really good sandwiches. A bit expensive though.

The Acropolis Museum is my all-time favorite museum. It’s down from the Acropolis and the museum’s glass walls provide stunning views. You can purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid the line—or even purchase them on your phone while you’re standing in line. Both outside floors and some of the first floor inside are glass and you can see a dig below. There are four floors. A reading room. An outdoor cafe overlooking the Acropolis. And two gift shops. The museum captures the airy feel of the Acropolis itself and it’s best viewed when it’s not terribly crowded. I go every year I’m in Athens to visit my favorite displays. Be sure to look up outside the entrance/exit doors to see the statue of Athena as an owl. It’s on top of a metal pole outside. Beware of aggressive pigeons if you sit outside at the cafe—but dealing with them is absolutely worth it for the view. Also, keep track of your ticket because you’ll likely be asked to produce it again when you leave the cafe.

A very well designed museum, and very true to the conservation of the archeological findings related to the Acropolis and surroundings. The main feature is on the top floor where the arrangement and life-size of the art pieces once adorned by the Pantheon. Very well displayed and magnificent views of the acropolis. A must-do visit if you are visiting Athens, worth the money. I recommend that the tickets be purchased online from the government site to bypass the longer queue.

We were on a Mediterranean cruise and decided to do Athens on our own. We got a transfer from the port to Athens with no specific plans. The we arrived about 8:30am. The line to the Acropolis was extremely long. We noticed the museum across from the Acropolis entrance and decided to go, and I’m sure glad we did. We waited about 15 minutes for the museum to open. The artifacts on exhibit were incredible. We spent about 2 hours but could easily have spent a half day. The museum has a restaurant where we had a very good sandwich and beer. It is recommended that you do the museum before going to the Acropolis and I would agree for a different perspective. The museum is definitely worth seeing while in Athens.

This is a substantial museum. It is very easy to navigate and is entirely accessible for those with wheelchairs or mobility problems. There are lofts to assist with traversing the different levels. There are also many seats throughout the building for rest stops. All the staff were friendly and very helpful, one even offering me her seat so I could rest and then taking photos of me in front of an exhibit 'to prove you were here' lol. The building is beautiful and well laid out and a nice respite from the heat outside. Buying tickets at the museum is an easy experience too. I only wish I had more energy to spend more time there.

Definitely a highlight of any visit to Athens. This modern museum sits at the foot of the Acropolis and contains much of what has been discovered in the area, the key subject being the Parthenon and its marble sculptures. Set over several floors (all accessible via lifts or escalators) it tells the story of the buildings and its significance as a beacon for the type of democracy that originated in Greece at the time. That story leads us to the present day where restoration works continue (slowed by covid) and the calls for the return of the missing marbles grows ever louder.

This place is amazing. We did arrive at the end of the day and they were closing, but this is incredible. The mere fact that they build the museum on top of an archeological site that you can see through a glass floor is amazing and a must see. You will have to drop your bag at the entry though.

We stopped in on a guided tour. The guide went to specific parts and shared some history. There is an option to take headphones and listen to the different exhibits. There are certain parts of the museum where you aren’t allowed to take pictures. It is a very interesting place, but we don’t have enough time to browse thoroughly. If you are interested in the history of Greece then I recommend this museum.

Beautiful museum! The layout was incredibly beautiful and you could see the ruins underneath the museum. Bring your own headphones and scan the code to get information about the different displays- we forgot ours! The plaque display is oddly placed so on some pieces you have to kneel down to the floor to read what it says.

Must see attraction when coming to Athens. The museum itself is spectacular. Minimal wait time to enter (less than 10 minutes), staff were very helpful. It cost €10 for a single ticket on a weekday, which allowed you to view the entirety of the museum. The exhibits were stunning, and the cafe and views of the city were also stunning from the second floor. There was additionally a special limited attraction on the ground floor, which is only accessible by paying a secondary charge of €10. Overall, great place and would love to visit again.

Pros : - Great pieces of art and/or history - Good explanation and it makes you travel to the ancient Greece ??. Cons : -expensive (10€ for a 19 yo person is expensive knowing that most of cultural sites are free) - The museum is doable in under 3 hours even if you read every texts Overall a great museum but sadly a bit short and pretty expensive taking that the acropolis is free, really should make it about 5€ for young people who'd like to get an insight in the roots of our modern society. Best regards, Paul Rotelli.

The Acropolis is located on a flattish-topped rock that rises 150 m (490 ft) above sea level in the city of Athens, with a surface area of about 3 hectares (7.4 acres). While the earliest artifacts date to the Middle Neolithic era, there have been documented habitations in Attica from the Early Neolithic period (6th millennium BC).

  • 4/5 Irene M. 3 years ago on Google
The exibition was very beautifully distributed. There was not a lot of information to read but there are videos you can watch to learn more about the history of Acropolis in the top floor. If you are a student, bring your student card (not european youth card, they don’t accept those?).

This is my favorite place for coffee! The museum is one of the best in the world. The cafe on the rooftop has one of the best views of the acropolis in Athens. You can enjoy a quality lunch with a great wine or coffees and cake. Prices are reasonable, the sometimes they have a musician playing the harp to set the mood.

Great museum, but the WORST POSSIBLE STAFF working at the café. Not just rude and impolite, throwing the menu on the table, but also trying to force a tip at the payment. They destroy the amazing view of the Acropolis with that terrible attitude.

Building is newer than the national archaelogy museum, but the exhibition seemed smaller. Maybe it was due the fact that we could not make into the last undeground level (it is being closed half an hour before 16:00 on Mondays). Also it's a shame that you shouldn't be taking any photograps (and unlike other museums there was an army of employees watching you all the time, which felt kinda weird).

Brand new modern museum full with the wonderful marble art recovered from the Acropolis. The museum tells the story of the Acropolis through the centuries, different styles of the statues and its uses. What I liked the most was the top floor where the flat marble art pieces depicting the birth of Athena, the fight of Athena with Poseidon over the land of the Acropolis and the yearly procession during the festival to honour the goddess Athene are displayed. These pieces originate from the top of the Parthenon temple and are set up in the same rectangular way. While you make your way around the ‘parthenon’ in the museum you can see the real temple through the huge windows. The videos are also very informative about how Greece has been recovering and reconstructing the ancient buildings and art work.

  • 5/5 Barry H. 3 years ago on Google
A must see in Athens.Really take your time to soak in all the sculpted marble figures and history of the city. It will add greatly to your visit to the acropolis itself. Especially seeing the able reliefs from the temple itself. I would recommend going midday, spending all afternoon inside and then going up stairs to have a bite to eat in the cafe. It's open air and you get to watch sun sink behind the mountains with a great view of the parthenon. Well worth 10 euros.

Undoubtedly the best collection of ancient Greek artefacts in the world in beautiful surroundings. My second visit was five hours and it is still not enough. I could spend days and days there, just marveling at the incredible displays. I feel for the Greek people that some of the pieces are plaster copies, thanks to Lord Elgin stealing many beautiful marvel pieces currently held at the British museum Lobdon.

A smart modern building with three floors of carefully curated items found on or near the acropolis. From smaller, storied items on the first floor to less detailed installations towards the top, the museum showcases a wide range of Athenian history without information overload or mental fatigue. A very reasonable €10 entrance makes it well worth visiting.

Let's see... Acropolis Museum in Athens, duh. It would've been even more amazing if many artifacts weren't still in the British Museum (who is taking very good care of them, and they probably would've been destroyed or in someone's private collection if the Brits hadn't borrowed them). Museum is highly accessible for disabled and well laid out. If you're going all the way to Athens you should consider a visit. Had a nice Greek, duh, lunch outdoors in full few of, yes, the Acropolis. I even, legally, took a small piece of the Acropolis museum home with me, an exact scale replica of Block III of the west frieze of the Parthenon.

  • 5/5 Aikaterini S. 3 years ago on Google
One of the best museums in Europe; if not the best. The visitor has the opportunity to discover the ancient greek art over the years while walking through the museum just to end up on the top floor where the excibition of Parthenon stand and it is set up in the same rectangular way and same scale with the actual Parthenon. What is impressive is the fact that while you make your way around the Parthenon in the museum you can see the real temple through the huge windows, such a clever trick of the museum's Architects! All in all, a must visit stop when in Athens.

(Translated by Google) The monuments of the Acropolis withstood the destruction that occurred both in ancient times and in the Middle Ages. Until the 17th century, foreign travelers gave an intact image of the monuments and this was the situation until the middle of the same century, when the Propylaea, which had been turned into a powder keg, were blown up. Thirty years later, the Ottoman conquerors dismantled the neighboring temple of Athena Nike to use its material to strengthen the fortification of the Acropolis. A gloomy year for the Acropolis was 1687, when many architectural members of the temple were scattered around the rock of the Acropolis, due to a Venetian bomb. Foreign visitors searching through the ruins took ancient fragments as souvenirs. In the 19th century, Lord Elgin removed architectural sculptures from the frieze, metopes and pediments of the Parthenon. In 1833 the Turkish garrison withdrew from the Acropolis. Immediately after the founding of the Greek State, discussions began for the construction of a museum for the Acropolis on the Rock. In 1863, it was decided to build the museum on a site southeast of the Parthenon and on December 30, 1865, the foundation was laid. The building plan for the Museum provided that the height of the building should not exceed the pillar of the Parthenon. With an area of just 800 sq.m. The building quickly proved unsuitable to house the findings of the large excavations of the Acropolis that began in 1886. A second museum, the Small Museum, was announced in 1888. During the years 1946-1947, the second Museum was demolished while the original was significantly expanded. From the 1970s it seemed that the Museum could not cope satisfactorily with the large crowds of its visitors. The inadequacy of the space often caused problems and degraded the aesthetic result that the exhibition of the masterpieces of the Rock wanted to achieve. This need for the creation of a new Museum of the Acropolis was first expressed by Konstantinos Karamanlis in September 1976, delimiting the space in which the new Museum was finally built. Konstantinos Karamanlis, with his insightful look, set as a necessity for Greece, the construction of a new Museum that would have all the necessary technical facilities for the preservation of invaluable works of Greek art and where the sculptures of the Parthenon, the Caryatids and all the sculptures that were in the warehouses of the old Museum. For these reasons, two architectural competitions were held in 1976 and 1979. In 1989, Melina Mercouri, who as Minister of Culture identified her policy with claiming the return of the Parthenon Sculptures from the British Museum, launched a new international architectural competition. The results of the competition were canceled after the unveiling of a large residential area on the Makrigianni plot that dates from prehistoric to Byzantine times. The excavation had to be included in the New Museum. In 2000, the Acropolis New Museum Construction Organization (OANMA) announced an invitation to participate in a new competition, which was in line with European Union Directives. This competition was successful and awarded the first prize to Bernard Tschumi with Michalis Fotiadis. Today, the new Acropolis Museum is a total of 25,000 sq.m. and has exhibition spaces with an area of 14,000 sq.m., ten times larger than in the old Museum. The new Museum offers all the services needed by a 21st century world museum.

is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies over the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens. The museum was founded in 2003, while the Organization of the Museum was established in 2008. It opened to the public on 20 June 2009.More than 4,250 objects are exhibited over an area of 14,000 square metres. The Organization for the Construction of the new museum is chaired by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Professor Emeritus of Archaeology, Dimitrios Pandermalis.

You can't help but be impressed by this wonderful museum. Definitely up there with the best. Bright and airy, lots of glass in use, whether it's the windows, giving you a 360° views as you walk around, or in panels in the ground letting you see some of the older buildings and ceramic floors, or surfacing the stairs. There are 5 floors of displays all displayed so well you don't find yourself thinking, God not another carving. Gives you a wonderful insight of Athens history. There are lifts and escalators between all floors. Would make this a Must when you are next in Athens.

New Acropolis Museum is very well built where you can have a view on the architecture and sculpture of Greece. Their architecture reflects their culture through paintings, sculptures, carvings, etc. Everything which has been excavated is placed their for the people to witness. You can also watch the documentaries, movies, video clips at different places of the museum to understand the techniques, skills, manpower, material they had used to built Acropolis. Miniature models are also displayed to show various stages of construction or destruction of Acropolis. The museum authorities has also made an arrangement for your queries. They have their team of Professors and Archeologists who would answer your queries about the history, culture, life, rulers and people of Greece.

As far as we can estimate, the literature would have us believe that a honorable panda is not but a goldfish? We know that the bright persimmon comes from an energetic kiwi. A kitten is a grapes's panda. The wolf is a bird! Draped neatly on a hanger, cheetahs are obedient deers; As far as he is concerned, the tangerine of a pineapple becomes a generous chimpanzee. Waking to the buzz of the alarm clock, the punctual dolphin reveals itself as a vigorous deer to those who look. A decorous peach is a goldfish of the mind? Lions cave is an amazing cave system that goes deep inside the moutain in the side of peak korakovouni. If you want to go for a walk in the moutain i totaly recomend it as a destination. The road underneath is not really acessible since you either need a truck or park at the runners point and walk about 2km. The cave the last 10 years has a gate and its forbiden to enter for safety reasons.

A museum you should visit if you are in Athens! The museum was very nice, it has multiple of floors filled with old sculptures and statues. There was a nice type of mini cinema and it talk about how the acropolis was made, it was really interesting. At the highest floor there was a nice souvenir shop with reasonable prices and a cafe that directly faced the Acropolis. The ticket entry price I believe was €8 I’m not really sure but it was definitely worth it!

  • 5/5 Natasha S. 2 years ago on Google
Loved the museum, totally worth the (slightly expensive) price. There is a lot to go through, so be sure that you go there with time and energy. There is also a nice café in the third floor where you can have something to drink or eat with an amazing view of the Acropolis. Also a bit expensive and the tables that are outside may all be taken when you arrive, but have a little patience and you'll get a spot. Totally recommend to the History lovers out there!

Really well thought out and interesting museum! I really enjoyed learning about the history. I think you really have to go here if you're visiting Athens, along with actually visiting the acropolis! It's really impressive to see everything and mental to think how old it all is! You have to have a vaccine certificate and ID with you.

Extremely good museum in a fascinating architectural setting. Fascinating and well thought out design. Very near the Acropolis and local restaurants.

  • 5/5 Mark M. 2 years ago on Google
Really great experience. Take your time to get immersed in the history of this incredible place and enjoy everything on display. The café is great to take a break between floors and I really recommend the traditional Greek coffee. It was the best coffee I had while in Athens (don't add sugar and don't stir!!!). It's a shame that the British Museum still has a large portion of the stolen marbles and statues though, I hope they will return soon to the place where they belong.

  • 5/5 Lin N. 2 years ago on Google
It’s new, it’s well maintained and all displays are amazing. Greek and English side by side explanation of artifacts. Could not take pictures on most of the second floor… not sure why. Everyone observing masking requirements, COVID vaccine status checked prior to entry, also a metal detector as well. The outside archaeological exhibit was fun, might be extra cost to get in. Of course great view of the Acropolis from the cafe terrace!! We used a city pass.

Fantastic museum as the essence of ancient precision, harmony and proportions. Msde from glass it reflects Parthenon remaining the "main hero" of the story and by its clear and elegant simplicity just highlights the displayed artefacts. It's great idea to put statues so you can walk and see them from all angles and in different lighting. The halls with the columns creates the vision that you as the visitor mingle with the ancient art.

  • 5/5 Jure . 2 years ago on Google
Rather new museum build to show to the visitors all the glory of the Athens. Make sure you first visit the Acropolis with a guide as it will give you new perspective on the things you will see in the museum. Stop for short movie on the second floor!

Really Nice and Clean and Spacious Museum with all sorts of historical artifacts dating back to ancient Greek civilizations. Definitely a visit. walking on glass floor in some areas to reveal ancient foundation at basement level. Informative 20 minute video on big screen in English / Greek discussing Greek history and building of Acropolis.

  • 5/5 Irina “Nordsol” K. 2 years ago on Google
The museum is not large, but it's very elegant. The upper floor is made in the shape and size of the Parthenon and you can imagine walking around Parthenon itself looking at the images that used to decorate it - we loved the idea! There are a lot of statues and curious artifacts found on the site. Under the museum there are ancient ruins and you can look at them through the museum's glass floor. And the gift shop on the first (ground) floor is superb!

Beautiful museum. We were allowed to take pictures in some areas. They also have an excavation site under the museum that is part of your ticket and worth seeing

  • 5/5 Rex M. 2 years ago on Google
This museum sits directly over some of the excavated surrounding villages of the Acropolis. Many beautiful artifacts are displayed plus this is the museum for many original pieces from the Acropolis too. Its a great resource which is extremely well presented as it gives a very tangible way of seeing the actual reliefs of the Parthenon spacially presented and up close including copies of the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum

A gem in the heart of Athens, that everyone should visit! Even if you are not that into museums, you can enjoy your coffee or meal on the terrace overlooking the Acropolis, feeling that great atmosphere of the area!

Best museum I have ever been in!! Wow! After spending the morning at the Acropolis, to see all of the artifacts and collections in the museum was truly mind blowing. An absolute must after you have visited the Acropolis. The setup of the museum is a work of art with the top floor mimicking the real life size of the Parthenon. Couldn't recommend this place more!

I recommend Acropolis- Cave of Pan- Agora- Handrian Library- Temple of Zeus- Arch of Hadrian- Acropolis museum last- it opens till 8 In high season and after a long day of walk in hot weather, the AC in museum is exactly what you need. I got the skip the line ticket on line but during COVID you can easily at it at the entrance- not very crowded. The statues of Caryatid were moved from acropolis: porch of Erechteion. There is a group of sculptures depicting the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus- one of most interesting things ever.

What a museum!!! For me, it's one if not THE most beautiful in the world: awesome architecture, magnificient view to Acropolis, helpful staff. The architecture is just stunning. Kudos to the builders of this wonderful building👏👏👏. If you enter it, it opens your heart. Also best view to Athens. Comes with a very nice cafe where you can even sit outside, enjoying a frappe and the breathtaking view to Acropolis. Lucky to be there on a sunny day, so it was even more beautiful. This museum really made my day❤🤛👍

My really my interest but it had some fantastic pieces. Heard about museum is looking underground at the ruins that are under the glass mirrors. Was very crowded and you have to wear a mask so if you don't have one they'll throw you out. The museum also has a great view of the Acropolis from the third floor.

A great museum with a lot to see. Do buy ticket in advance to avoid the queue. It is great to visit the museum after the acropolis to connect the dots and understand the history better. We did some research online before we go so we really enjoy viewing the artifacts in the museum!

The architecture of the museum was beautiful. The audio guide was free and was interesting to listen to. I’m not a big museum person, but I listened through the whole audio tour that lasted about 2 hours. One of the things that they could improve is the friendliness of the staff, especially the security people that stand throughout the museum. Tip: - it’s recommended to buy your ticket online to skip the line. - go to the information desk to get your audio guide. Make sure to bring an ID.

A very beautiful and uniquely built museum. The excavation of the foundation led to the discovery of a bunch of ruins under the museum so a lot of the floor is made of glass to allow people to view the ruins. Beautiful views of the acropolis from the top floor. They have gorgeous works of Greek art on display.

  • 4/5 Cole J. 10 months ago on Google
Museum was very interesting with lots of information about the nearby Acropolis and very intriguing exhibits. There is a spot at the front of the museum to easily check your large baggage in. There are also beautiful views on the top floor and at the cafe. It was however a bit smaller than expected. Otherwise a good activity when you are in Athens to explore the history.

  • 5/5 Nuri G. 10 months ago on Google
From moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the rich history. I found myself immersed in the stories behind each piece, marveling at their intricate craftsmanship. The Museum also boasts stunning views of the Acropolis itself, and I was fortunate enough to enjoy these breathtaking vistas from the top-floor terrace. It was the perfect spot to take a moment to reflect on the historical importance of the site and soak in the beauty of Athens. Overall, it offers a fascinating journey through ancient Greece and serves as a testament to the country's rich cultural heritage. I highly recommend visiting this world-class museum to anyone interested in history, art, or simply looking to be inspired. It is an experience that will leave a lasting impression.

  • 5/5 S P. 9 months ago on Google
The museum itself is not quite big compared to other museum for historical issue I have gone. But the artifacts are amazing. You'll get the idea of how ancient Greeks are. I recommend to get a guide either a person or audio guide. It'll be more interesting since there are not many descriptions to read.

An must visit when touring around Athens. Be prepared to spend about 3 hours here to fully experience everything the museum has to offer. If visiting the Acropolis, then this will fully round off your experience. The top floor is not to be missed, and is a must for anyone who truly wishes to appreciate the scale of the monument. 10/10 for how the curators of this museum have put things together!

  • 5/5 Taniyyus S. 9 months ago on Google
You will obviously visit all the places but you need to plan your visit. You should leave all the museums for midday activities. Around 11am, you should make your way to the museum. You need to be indoors when the heat is on. Cool off with a gulp of history and mesmerizing artifacts. Steeped in stories, you can easily spend 3 hours here. But your ticket online once you get here. Scan the qr code and get them pronto.

Positives: - Next to the Acropolis - Plenty to see - pottery, coins and sculptures - English translations - Videos showcasing how the Acropolis would have looked Negatives: - The odd rude member of staff, not very patient when asking for directions. - Gets crowded quickly!! - Souvenir shops are very gimmicky and over priced. Not worth the money. - Cafe has a long wait once ordered, very chaotic and we were brought the wrong order 3 times. Advice: -Buy tickets online in advance as the queue to buy tickets is a long one! -Go to the Acropolis first then the museum - We were at the Acropolis for 9am and the museum around 10:15am. It was not very busy at this time. When we left at 12pm it was becoming very very busy!! Overall the experience was 5 stars due to me loving Greek history but I could have easily lowered it due to the cafe and the rudeness of some staff.

Incredible museum filled with tonnes of information and historically significant statues and artifacts. I highly recommend the audio exhibit tour, which lets you have an audio guide at your own pace. My favourite section was the top floor where you get to walk around the facade of the Parthenon. They've done a great job giving you a feeling of how it would have been in its prime. The cafe is great as well. Definitely a must visit in Athens before climbing the Acropolis

  • 5/5 Kurt M. 8 months ago on Google
It’s amazing how much hard work has gone into preserving all the artifacts and they do a great job of explaining the history of all the artifacts. The building itself is a wonder in the way it sits on top of an ancient neighborhood! The fact that this place is air conditioned is a huge plus on the hot summer days so come at the peak of the hot day and keep your 😎

The Acropolis Museum offers a mixed experience. On the positive side, the modern architecture and the presentation of artifacts are commendable. It provides valuable context for understanding the Acropolis. However, some might find the overall experience a bit underwhelming, especially considering the high expectations. Additionally, it can get quite crowded, which may hinder a leisurely exploration. Nonetheless, for history enthusiasts, it's still worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Ahmad Al H. 7 months ago on Google
A modern architectural building full of history with comprehensive information. The electronic information device guide is handed for free but they are not always available. It is worth waiting for people to return them because it makes a huge difference. Check the last floor for stunning views. Like many museums, kids will love the first few minutes before they start getting bored so u need to keep them engaged. A must visit

I really love this museum, good location, great ancient art and a fantastic building! I booked tickets via an app and entry in the early morning at about 9am. It was not crowded so I could see the Greek art details slowly. Do not forget to visit the basement where full of wells and can see the entire plan for the place.

An Amazing Museum ! We took the short walk down from the Parthenon. Built on top of ruins , which you can view from catwalks . You have to leave the museum and enter from the left side . The museum is 1st class and has a nice restaurant. FYI ...No drinking fountains, and if you use the elevators, they are a bit confusing . They don't all go to all the floors . Incredible history and artifacts ! A must-see . Very enjoyable.

This is a very nice museum.🤩 Very open. Able to handle many people at once.👍🏻 Beautiful displays. Very clever how it is laid out. Especially the third floor which highlights the upper fresco of the Parthenon. You can walk around the whole outside of the fresco just above eye level while looking out the window at the actual monument! Very clever. Very well done! And when you are finished inside you can go outside and around the path to the left and it will take you underneath the museum 😲 to the ruins beneath the floor that you see when you enter.

  • 5/5 Philip R. 7 months ago on Google
Very well put together and definitely a must see, after seeing the video presentations the museum has, you feel the only thing that would make this better is if England gave back the Elgin Marbles. I’ve seen them in London, but I feel they would have much stronger meaning if they were in Athens. When you go, definitely visit the dig site under the museum, to say this museum was well thought out is an understatement.

  • 5/5 Jack R. 7 months ago on Google
This was an amazing experience! Many audio guides will just read the plaques in front of the artifacts so make sure to find more in-depth ones if that’s more your style. Be sure to check the excavation area under the museum and watch the video at the end of the path, it was very information and amazing to see how they did all they did for the museum!

I would definitely recommend stopping here before or after visiting the Acropolis! I loved seeing the Caryatids. There are also great views of the city if you go up towards the restaurant. (If you want to skip lines and get inside quicker, you can order tickets online).

The Acropolis Museum was a great experience. It's a must when visiting Greece. Our tour guide was very informative with detailed information. The beautiful views are unexplainable and are something one must see for the themselves. While walking you'll notice that there is marble on the ground. Just be careful because it's very slippery. Be sure to wear sneakers.

  • 5/5 Audrey G. 6 months ago on Google
It's easily one of the better museums in terms of layout, modernity, artifacts, information, and overall aesthetic! The chronological and geographical layout of the building seems intentional, meant to reflect the Acropolis site itself and allow visitors a chance to truly learn about not only the historical periods of the Acropolis (and by extension Athens itself!) but also allow for each building and structure (both standing and lost) to have its own dedicated section within the museum. Naturally, the crown jewel is the top floor, which is dedicated entirely to the Temple of Athena. A very worthwhile visit, most especially for those who have yet to see the Acropolis site in person, though one does not need to see it first in order to appreciate this museum. Only caveat - Mondays seem to have shortened times (17:00 closing time instead of the standard 20:00 for every other day of the week). Why 17:00 on this one day, I have no idea, so be aware of this if the plan is to do a Monday visit!

Serious and quality one museum! with a full of deep and rich history! And with a lotta of all kinds of historical relics and pieces! If you will be traveling to the Athens, Greece, you should definitely visit this place! This is one of the top 3 museums in Athens!

Buy your ticket package for the historical sites the day before you plan on going to see them. You can purchase the tickets at the museum. You'll wait less time in line to go in than to go by your tickets and fall in line to access the site. As well, it's always recommended to go earlier in the morning since there are less people.

TOURIST'S REVIEW An exciting place to visit complimenting your trip to Acropolis. Here you can find all the explanation, statues, and recovered artifacts that were once below the Acropolis. It is recommended that you know a little bit about Greek Mythology before you go here. But nonetheless, it was a must visit whenever you visit Athens/Acropolis for the first time. Please do come early and pre-booked your ticket to have a smoother experience.

This museum was well thought out with the layout and flow. We went right when it opened, do this, by the time we left (3 hours later) it was PACKED. So many tour groups were there it was insane. So much history. You can take an audio guided tour with your phone or you can read about each spot. Plenty of restrooms as well throughout the museum.

Really clever to see the freize and other decorations from the Acropolis set up as if it were on the building ... The scale is appreciable. The video was interesting. The cafe was a lovely stop with a great view of the Acropolis. The excavation will be informative when that's complete. One tip ... Don't wear a skirt or dress when you visit, the floors are all glass so you can see up as well as down! Also not possible to purchase reduced price tickets online and you do need to show passports as evidence for children to qualify.

The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. Less crowded in off season! Toilets on each floor, restaurant on top floor with Acropolis view, stores to buy books & token. Entry fee is 10€ in off-season & 15€ in the season!

  • 5/5 Larine F. 4 months ago on Google
The museum itself is an experience that one must not overlook when coming to the city. You will find different types of work of art from ancient Greece and you also have a perfect view of the acropolis. There are different kinds of exhibitions such as audio visual and lego pieces, so kids are not only welcome but encourage to come and see the art. The gift shop is actually pretty good as well and you can find cute little things to bring home. As with everything in the city, make sure to get your tickets in advance and try to find combos, so you can save some money as they can get pricey if bought individually.
