Visit Kirtland as much as you can. This is an amazing gorgeous place, and just come here with an open mind, wanting peace and focus on the quiet and peaceful surroundings. GOD IS GOOD💚 (yes i posted one photo but this is one of the views you will see, and a couple photos what is in the visitors center)

Well preserved and detailed restoration of the Whitney Store, an important historical place for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This location includes the site of the "School of the Prophets" upstairs and was a place of residence for Joseph Smith.

Amazing historical place. A lot occurred in this place. The Whitney's were amazing people and contributed much to the restoration of the church of Jesus Christ. Go prepared to be touched by doing some advance studying. You wont be disappointed.

This place and specifically this house and store is a unique and important experience for any member of the LDS church, and worth a stop if you are passing through the area. Many visitors will be on their way to New York anyway - this needs to be on that travel itinerary. So many sacrifices were made by so few in Kirtland, and the Whitney family is one of those great examples of faith and sacrifice.

Super welcoming at the visitors center. Enjoyed the videos and interactive stations. The tour was extensive, covering the Newel K. Whitney Store, the Whitney house, the Johnson Inn, and Joe Hills Johnson sawmill and ashhouse. So cool! The sawmill was reconstructed to be a fully working sawmill! Great attention to details. Blessed to have this experience.

This was a wonderful, free tour where you can visit several locations that are all within a short walk of one another. It is a guided tour with missionaries, and they share inspirational stories of things that happened in these locations among the early Saints. There is also a video that's about 25 minutes long that can only be viewed here (as of now). It's about the Whitneys and their faith, as well as that of other early Saints. During the tour, you get to see the Newel K. Whitney store, the Whitney home, the Kirtland Sawmill and Ashery, and the Kirtland Schoolhouse. They're also working on a restoration of Joseph and Emma Smith's home while they were there, which should be done August of 2023. Some of the flooring and other items in these buildings are original. Newel K. Whitney even kept a detailed record of everything he ever bought or sold, so the items in the store, though most not original, are items he actually sold there. They also let you go upstairs and see where some of the Church leaders met, including the room for the School of the Prophets. My kids and parents and I really enjoyed the whole tour. It strengthened our faith.

The missionaries were so kind to give us the tour even though we got there a half hour before they closed. Very sweet place.

The Whitney store has a fascinating story of early 1800's lifestyle and can be seen alone or part of a multiple building tour. A great family experience.

A definitely uplifting and spiritual experience to visit this historic site where The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was organized. The volunteers are full of love and peace. Definitely recommend to anyone. We ended up staying longer than planned.

This is part of a restored / replicate historical site with free tours that share about the history of Joseph Smith, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and early settlers of Kirtland Ohio. Plan to spend 1-2 hours here (it's well worth it). They church did an incredible job providing as much accuracy as possible. There were many historical facts and stories that I had never heard before in my last 20 years of learning about the church. Great place for a picnic too.
