Don't expect to get into the Lighthouse grounds but as long as you know this you won't be disappointed with the views and the 'adventurous' walk. Best way to experience - Begin at the quaint Victorian Town of Whitehead and walk along promenade and then onto the 'Old Castle Road' that hugs the shoreline. I would then recommend turning left up the Blackhead Path and walk clockwise around the Lighthouse. This is a more gradual approach towards the top. If you stay hugging the shore line until underneath the Light House the steep steps at other side are easier to come down than go up. Fantastic views at the top and when you do follow the path around the Lighthouse and back down to sea level you are walking right next to the sea with sheer cliffs above you and even walking through rock tunnels. Best part there are some great Coffee Shops in Whitehead for afterwards :-)

This is a great walk. If you're not up to the climb up the steps to the lighthouse you still get great views from the main coastal path. There is plenty of parking too.

Beautiful walk! πŸ˜πŸ’™ The water here is so clear & beautiful colours. Approximately 4km round trip from the car park to the lighthouse. Some steep steps/hills on the way up to the light house so be aware of that if hills/steps aren’t ideal for you. 🐢Dogs are allowed & plenty of bins (especially at the beginning of the walk). Sometimes there is a coffee cart too near the car park. β˜•οΈ Lots of free parking in the car park.πŸš—

Begins with a flat coastal path from Whitehead. The trail splits and loops around and over the headland via the lighthouse. This section of trail is unique as it bridges and cuts through the headland rocks. The trail is concrete path so good for a wet day but as lots of steps.

Awesome place.. Its had a good walk of around 2k one side + some 100+ steps so be mindful of that with kids or older tourists.. A number of good spot to capture some beautiful pictures... Light house is closed for public.. So you can't go there any way.. However a good walk on a sunny day..

Lovely walk from the car park in whitehead, with a great path to the foot of the lighthouse then a climb up steps once at the top you can return via the wooden steps back down to the costal path, very pleasant.

Excellent coastal path with a restored cliff walk. A great circular walk from the car park in Whitehead that will take about 2 hours.

Genuinely loved this walk. Park the car in the car park at the the sea and take a walk. You will start at a flat cycle path type footway leading to a sea pathway in through the cliff face followed by a sharp set of steps taking you to to the Whitehead Lighthouse. The walk is about 1.6 miles each way and the views are brilliant. Hold on tight to the kids at the top as some of them drops are exposed. Bottom line it's an amazing walk with stunning views and won't cost you a penny. Enjoy!

There is a public path that passes the lighthouse and keepers' house. The property is an Irish Landmark Property. It operates like Airbnb. It must be booked through their website and is obviously subject to availability. Our party stayed there last November. I consider that trip and our stay as one of the most amazing times in my life. A storm came in on our second day. We sat by the fire as nature raged.
