I came to Beaufort West without the knowledge of this museum and when I saw the board I was like I really need to check it out. I didn’t really know too much history on Dr Christiaan Bernard so I really came out very informed. History on the life and work (with pictures) Chris on display all over including an exhibition of the family home (church) and of Beaufort West as an area! A really really good place to visit if you’re in the area or are passing through and have time to spare. Unfortunately taking pictures inside was prohibited so no pictures of the inside but outside and entrance.

Enjoyed the museum and being in Prof's Chris Barnards house where he grew up and put to rest.

A pity that the original operating theater display was removed. Also a pity the church benches was removed. Lighting in the church and especially the house is shockingly poor. The grass/lawn needs attention. Sorry to say but in general the museum was better in the past.

Sadly, entrance price of R100 per person exorbitant for us 3 pensioners. So we never got to see Chris Barnard museum. Beggars at the door also discouraging. Manager said no pensioner discount and entrance fee less than Cape Town's museums!

Very interesting, as long history and medical science is your thing! I most liked the Private House access, a real step back in history

Make time to visit this museum. Very interesting, specially the Chris Barnard division with all his old equipment and awards. Also worth mentioning the house he used to live in as a child.

A great experience. Value for money at R100 to visit the Chris Barnard Museum (where no photos could be taken) the church and Barnard family home. While we had a guide it really self paced which meant you could spend time when and where you wanted. Well worth the hour and a bit

The tour guide was really nice but the place around the museum is horrible! They almost stole our car's badge off! Beaufort West is the most kak place to visit! Tip: skip Beaufort West and go straight through to Oudtshoorn!!!

We just managed to get in for the last guided tour on a Saturday morning as they closed at 1pm. Found it a bit difficult to find entrance. All the buildings are actually part of the complex Cost was r100pp which included everything Lots of history in Beaufort West and sad history to. The stars of course are the Barnard family, prof Chris Barnard being born there. We found his story fascinating and did not know he performed the 1st kidney transplant before the 1st heart transplant, this was never published because of the government of the time, very sad,as it was another amazing achievement We were amazed at how many countries gave him awards and seeing similar equipment they used for the 1st transplant was a bit scary considering today's technology. Very interesting experience

RaJith, I'm assuming the spelling, was a really nice host. Friendly and telling us some history. Even though there's a lot of info to read, there's some awesome history in this museum. The ending was great to know that this was the living and now resting place of a Legend!

👍👍 We stayed one night but this lush haven in the grey Karoo was a beautiful site. Green grass to camp on and very well set up ablutions and a farm dam as swimming pool, kids loved it. Highly recommended for stopover on your way to Cape Town. Well priced.
