Lovely content just in need of a good dusting and fresh air. Worth a stop. Liked the tribute to the displaced and learnt ostriches can breathe through their legs. Go visit and support local culture and museum.

Beautiful things, no Tour Guide - just what I like. Be sure not to go with any controlling or neurotic people, as you will want to take your Time. The in-house Shul is MAGNIFICENT.

One of the best Museums in South Africa. With a very accommodating Museum Secretary Roschida opened up another old House for as on a Saturday afternoon after 2! Very dedicated and helpful staff. We'll marked and categorised items all in English. Exselent!

The stars are for the excellent museum content only. Lacklustre staff, absent curator. We went on National museum day and there was nothing done to celebrate the day. We were the only visitors for the whole of the morning. Couldn't receive info on Friends of the museum, even drove back next day trying. Staff needs to be reminded there's more to keep a museum alive than some outings to schools and a speech competition. The right staff appointed could make this a golden must visit for tourists.

Lazy staff, absent curator, DIRTY. The place smelled and needs urgent cleaning. Most of the rooms and the old school hall was locked. We reported the issues but received a VERY rude answer back from the museum manager. AND BTW THEY ASK R100 for no tour, no engagement at all.

The museum is an interesting view into the past of the area. Take cash though as the card machine wasn't working when we were there

(Translated by Google) Very good place, there are many museums in AJ. The amount of information that can be visited is also very large. If you spend a lot of time, it will take less than an hour to experience the culture of the ostrich building, tableware, residence, etc. in the town of Auchan. I think it's worth going to see it again. Very wonderful place with AJ different rooms that can be visited. This museum is so informative that it will cost a long-time to know the details of it. Only one hour is really not enough to appreciate the culture of ostriches, construction, dishes, Houses, religion in Outdshoort. I think this museum is worth visiting again for me. Nice museum with interesting displays about the history of Oudtshoorn and Ostrichs. We wanted to escape the heat around noon for an hour and for R25 it was definitely worth it!

Disappointed The people who took us on tour knew nothing about the history of the museum 😭 The wanted to overcharge us , the administrator didn't know the price list

Worst museum ever.... No guided tours and dirty. Staff watches movies and doesn't even greet.... What happened to this place. Bring back the staff 2017 who actually worked and knew the history of the place. Disappointing.

Well laid out in a beautiful old building. Documents the history of Oudtshoorn and the ostrich industry. Very informative with some really stunning pieces from bygone days. Visited again after three years, sadly there were no lights in some of the exhibits.

Informative and interesting. I especially liked the chemist's shop and the story of the Polish children brought to Oudtshoorn in 1943. If you are interested in history, especially local history (Oudtshoorn), then this is a worthwhile visit.

Fantastic museum covering the history of Oudtshoorn and the Ostrich Feather boom in the late 1800's. Unique Jewish Synagogue in the museum

  • 5/5 Stuart M. 3 years ago on Google
A really unexpected jewel in the middle of Ostrich central. Very well presented history, fascinating at times, put aside at least 90min to go thru the museum. A must for anyone interested in the history of the area.
