This is a unique type of gym. You get one-on-one assistance to plan your workout, and make sure your form is right and that you’re making progress, safely. Everyone is so nice too! I love the feeling of getting stronger. I highly recommend you at least come check it out, do an introductory session. There’s no contract, and lots of flexibility in workout schedules.

Starting Strength is the place you are looking for if you want to get active again. I had my intro session with Camisha today, and as with all the coaches, she met where I am and gave me confidence to get going again. I highly recommend Starting Strength for their positive, non-judgmental, friendly approach.

My journey at Starting Strength over the past several months has been nothing short of life changing and positive! Luke and the team of coaches SS has on board are exceptional leaders and teachers. Although I have always been somewhat athletic, when I first started the program I had no idea what to what to expect as I had never done weight lifting/ strength training prior. I basically started from ZERO with skills and knowledge. Tony and Camisha were so patient and consistent- coaching me through every step and individualizing my personal program/ goals. The confidence and strength I have gained from my experience at SS has poured over into many aspects of my life and I am so grateful! If you are looking for a community of people who are truly passionate about helping others grow in strength, who encourage a positive mindset and teach effective consistent fitness habits- Starting Strength is the place.

If you are struggling to get your squat form right, hurting yourself every time you deadlift, and avoid lifting barbell because you just don’t know what to do, Starting Strength is absolutely for you. This is the BEST training decision I have ever made. Since working with this method, my coaches are helping me become confident, guiding me to lifting heavier, and becoming stronger weekly. Even if you are an older gym rat like me, I promise you that you’ll learn so much more and achieve your goals faster in the hands of excellent coaches.

Fantastic experience and results came quick!! I signed up with the intention to get strong and battle the natural aging process. I show up, put in the work and trust the program. Coach Marie has been amazing and encourages me when I need it the most. Less than 2 months and I already feel so much better, stronger, and impressed with myself on how far I’ve come. I’m glad to be a part of Starting Strength!

This gym is amazing: the facility is always in excellent condition; the coaches are as knowledgeable as they are passionate and you can tell your health and well-being is paramount to them; and everyone, coaches and trainees, are the some of the kindest people I have ever met. I look forward to every work out at this gym because even on the days when I feel I have failed my coaches and myself, I am always reassured that I am on track and I leave each session with a renewed sense of optimism and confidence. If you are looking for a gym that is centered around the tenants of building strength, look no further.

I had never weightlifted with barbells before starting here in January, but I really like it. This is the first workout or training program I’ve been able to stick with. Starting Strength Cincinnati is a warm and welcoming place to be, and I love coming here. The coaching staff is extremely knowledgeable, while keeping things fun, friendly, and engaging. Sessions are small, people are nice, and and you’ll be surprised at what you can do! For reference, I’m 55 yrs old, female, and was not fit at all when I started, but now I can squat 130 lbs, and deadlift 150 lbs. I love feeling strong and capable.

About 8 months ago, Blake and I joined Starting Strength and I don’t think we have looked back since. The experience is unlike other gyms I have been a part of. I have been so proud watching Blake transition from never lifting before to now being able to deadlift 480 pounds. My own journey started with being an athlete to dealing with lung surgeries and a few health issues. Since joining Starting Strength, I can definitely attest to the message that anyone can lift, and am now lifting more than I ever have.

Can’t say enough great things about the experience that Starting Strength Cincinnati offers to their clients. The coaches are knowledgeable, the gym is welcoming and the results are immediate. If you’re looking to train is a safe, welcoming environment, then this gym is for you. Just finished a session this morning and already looking forward to the next one.

Starting Strength is amazing! I entered training last November when the store opened. My goals were to reach back where I was 3 or 4 years ago. By following the wonderful training of coach Adam, Marie, and Camisha, in just 8 months, I have exceeded my initial goals. As a 63 year old man, I will soon be squatting 300 lbs, benching 175 lbs., and dead lifting over 300 lbs. My body has become more trim. It’s just amazing! So if you want to “become strong enough to get old” like I did-the Starting Strength program is a great way to increase strength!

Forget all you know about fitness. No, really you must. I put behind me years of running, Pilates, resistance training that didn’t make me feel any better and definitely did NOT make me any stronger (but did cause me to be very ‘skinny’ for whatever the hell that is worth). I put it all in my past and joined my husband as he defied gravity with amazing weight (that I didn’t believe possible for a normal person) in proper depth squats, bench presses, overhead presses and deadlifts. For over four years we’ve grown stronger than we ever believed possible following Rippetoe’s Starting Strength methods outlined in his book of the same title. We worked on our own and my husband went to one squat camp in Michigan. But when this SS gym opened in OH we KNEW we had to get here. As the weight has increased, variances in form are limiting our growth. I came to a camp yesterday (09 Apr 2022) and set two PRs (easily and with more reps than at home). We’ll keep coming back until gyms closer to Cleveland open up. We will eagerly make the over 3.5 hr drive because STRENGTH MATTERS. And these coaches are priceless. What they offer the community is a true gift that will serve you in all areas of your life (and I mean all!). These are real people. Therefore people who will be real with you. Don’t get your own ideas about what you’re capable of or how to move your body. They’ve studied extensively (exhaustively). These coaches are certified to the absolute highest standard. Follow their guidance (without hesitation) and you will amaze yourself and everyone around you. Listen to no one else when it comes to your strength training. Come in with a mentality of respect for these coaches (they truly deserve it) and you will succeed beyond your wildest imagination. I’m a mid 30s mother of two and behind marrying my husband and the birth of my kids, lifting has provided me the best moments of my life. You will be well taken care of here. They are worthy of something far more meaningful than mere money, that is your trust. Lay it all down and see great heights (actual measurable results/weight increases)! In great strength, kindest regards, Rena. (I try to be brief but clearly I’m quite passionate about this journey as I hope you will be too! This place, and most importantly the people within, is simply THAT special).

Wow, what a difference having a coach help you correct form every set has made for me. I've had surgery in both knees and have been paranoid about squatting. After being coached for 3 sessions so far my form has improved immensely in squat - and also my other lifts. However the improvement in my squat has been the most significant for me. Before my knee would make grinding and popping sounds nearly every rep. Now when I'm doing the form properly I don't get any of the snap crackle and pop. I had watched alot of videos and read about proper form but couldn't figure it out on my own. I need a coach. I'm driving almost an hour to get this gym but the help I'm getting is worth it.

There's no Starting Strength (yet) where I live, but I was so pleased to be able to schedule a training session with Adam during a recent visit to Cinci. I'm 65 and a long time exerciser with aerobics and free weights, but no idea where to begin with barbells aside from basics picked up on YouTube. Adam took me from zero to feeling confident that I now can use the proper form and program to build muscle and bone strength safely and successfully. I really can't thank you enough!

My seventeen-year-old son has grown 4 inches in the past year, so he started going to Starting Strength this summer so that he could catch his strength & muscles up to match his new height. In just two months he’s already showing huge changes. He has quadrupled the weight he can squat and tripled the amount he can dead lift. He’s more then doubled his starting strength across the other exercises. The instructors bring a lot of experience and knowledge. They are friendly, but they know when and how to be tough and “push“ my son when he needs more motivation. He loves how the sessions have a really good student-to-instructor ratio. He also enjoys that there are people of all ages there together – at 17 he’s one of youngest in his sessions, but there are people in their 70’s working out with him too. He feels stronger and more confident. We highly recommend Starting Strength. Thank you!

Recently went to the Open House, signed up, and had my Intro Session. I have been following Starting Strength since late 2019, reading the Blue Book and watching countless YouTube videos. Working out in my garage gym. Just from the Open House I knew there would be value in signing up. During the Open House you are walked through the Deadlift and that highlighted several form issues I have. YouTube and reading are not comparable to being coached by someone who knows what they are doing. This continued with my Intro Session, where my Squat and Press form were significantly corrected. Which I hope will be key in both increasing my strength as well as preventing injury. The staff and members I have met have been very welcoming. I highly recommend at least visiting the gym, it is not like any gym I had previously been too. You are not walking into a commercial gym where you are a number and working out in isolation. It is clean, has a "singular" purpose in making its members stronger, and it reminds me of working out when in school sports where it was more of a community endeavor to get stronger and healthier.

Extremely impressed with this gym, its owner, Luke Schroeder, and Adam Martin. I found Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength when looking to get back into barbell training and was thrilled to find a Starting Strength gym in Cincinnati. The gym itself is perfect. Clean, simple, beautifully built. Luke Schroeder, the owner, was extremely welcoming and helpful, responding quickly to all my questions. My wife and I did a private training session with Adam Martin. Adam is an outstanding coach who has full command of the Starting Strength model. He was able to quickly diagnose and correct points of improvement for both of us, which will be invaluable for our training going forward. There is no better barbell training model than Starting Strength and Starting Strength Cincinnati is the perfect gym for it.

I attended the Squat & Deadlift camp on 2/25/23 and I can’t emphasize enough how excellent the coaching was and overall how wonderful of an experience I had. Coach Adam Martin coached our group on the platform and along with Coach Jarret (sic) quickly diagnosed issues with my grip, stance width (too narrow) and depth. They gave me cues of “chin up” and noted that I tend to want to shift weight toward my toes. For the deadlift stance width again (too wide), I set up too far away from the bar and for back position was given cues of ‘drop belly in between thighs’ and this helped my back not be as concave. I was also ‘ski ramping’ bar off of my legs on the descent and Coach Camisha gave me the cue to ‘see the bar down’ which naturally moves hips back allowing bar to move straight down. We also had time to do the Press which was a nice bonus. Bar position (bar under chin) and hip movement (only forward never backward) were the big difference maker here- Reach! Punch! 1! 2! Also caught some great cues from watching others get coached like ‘own the position!’ Then we got to hear about programming from Coach Mia Inman which was really a treat. She is a legend and cuts through all the BS like a hot knife through butter. Also noticed we have the same shoes which was validating for me. In conclusion all of the coaches at SS Cincinnati were a pleasure to work with. They stuck a great balance of giving direct feedback and direction while simultaneously being completely humble. I can’t speak highly enough about how much I gained from this camp. Anyone in Cincinnati who is looking to get stronger and wants second to none coaching will greatly benefit from this gym.

To say that Starting Strength Cincinnati has changed my life would be an understatement. I wouldn't consider myself one who enjoyed working out and I had never weight lifted really ever. In November I had debilitating back pain, with tingling and numbness in my arms and legs. In fact, my first time stepping in Starting Strength i could barely walk. I had my doubts about my ability to perform strength training, but the coaches here thought that they could help me strengthen my muscles, which in turn would help support my spine. The coaches I worked with, Camisha and Tony, walked me through every step of the way to make sure I was being the most efficient to get the best results. The transformation I've experienced in only 3 short months continues to amaze me and I've definitely gained strength. Squat: 16 lbs to 135 lbs Bench Press: 22 lbs to 90 lbs Press: 11 lbs to 80 lbs Deadlift: 52 lbs to 190 lbs Thank you Starting Strength Cincinnati for not only making me stronger, but growing my confidence as well.

If you had the opportunity and means to change your life and that of your family, would you do it? Could you accept the example you were making if you didn’t? Those are the questions that weighed heaviest on me in September of 2022. I took action in October of 2022, attended an open house and started attending the gym the following week. I’d love to say that the first day “evaluation” went great. But it only emphasized that I had lost a lot of strength and mobility at the age of 46. I can honestly say that joining Starting Strength Cincinnati was the right choice for me. The staff genuinely care about the members and work hard to help them succeed. I’ve found myself as invested in the progress of the others in my training group as I am in my own. In the 3 months that I’ve been attending I’ve seen major changes in my strength and overall health. I can honestly recommend people to join up if they want to make a real change in their life. It won’t be easy, but easy doesn’t work.

I joined the gym in April hoping to improve my techniques and get help with programming. They didn’t disappoint! My techniques are so much better and I am lifting more weights than I thought I could. The coaches are knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping you to become strong. The fellow gym members are pleasant to train with and happily cheer each other for their success. If you want to get strong and are willing to do the hard work to achieve it, give them a try and you won’t regret it. Don’t be intimidated if you never lifted a barbell. They provide custom programming suitable for your abilities and the programs are well thought out!

Can't emphasize enough how great this place is. Been lifting for about five years now and just began to think about trying to actually quantify my strength increases. Unfortunately, this was a little difficult using the program I was on. Bought the Starting Strength book and began working through the program on my own. I'd work through the illustrations in the book and binge YouTube videos on the movements but without a certified coach watching your movements it's very difficult to capture and critique your own form. From the first time I stepped into the Starting Strength Cincinnati Gym, I felt welcomed and encouraged. The coaches are fantastic and have already helped me feel more comfortable and confident in my lifts. I really like the individual customization of the program, as age and experience definitely need to be taken into account with the programming. Already love this place and highly recommend it!

I started looking for a Starting Strength gym after reading The Barbell Prescription by Dr Jon Sullivan. Cincinnati is lucky enough to have one and I joined 9 months ago. What’s special about SS are the coaches and the exposure to those coaches is what can produce life-changing results. The constant attention, skilled programming and amazing camaraderie during sessions are well worth the price. I'm now probably stronger and more motivated than I've ever been thanks to Luke, Camisha, Chris, Tony and the whole crew at SS Cincinnati.

My teenaged son has been training here weekly for several months, and they have done a great job working with him! It’s making a huge difference in his posture as he is constantly growing and changing. Not to mention, his confidence is growing as he learns to pay attention to the little details and do things the proper way. It’s a neat gym, and I appreciate how the community there includes people of all ages.

I only have great things to say about starting strength and my experiences since live joined over the summer. Joining starting strength has helped me transition from working out with no direction to training with a purpose and plan. I’ve been able to see the benefits of training for strength and importance of rest and nutrition. I have also enjoyed being able to train with my mom and little sister along with the supportive coaches and amazing people I’ve met through the starting strength cincinnati community. I would go so far as to say my experience since joining ss has been transformative and life changing. Also- word in the street is they are coming out with some cool hoodies so once you join you can promote your new favorite gym.

I can't say enough good things about this gym. The level of care and attention, and the knowledge of the trainers is beyond anything I have ever experienced. Strength training is one of the best things you can do for your mind and body, and there is nowhere better to do it than here. Like many others have said, it really will change your life.
