A bright, airy open pub with a fine selection of beers both from the cask and keg. Rooms are available if you want to stay a while. A welcoming and gentle place, great for a quiet drink.

    1. Early afternoons at weekends: a swarm of lower middle class, ‘well behaved’, but staid individuals with baby buggies (sadly, including occupants) descend. By the end of their ‘sessions’, one can almost imagine the kids being decanted from the pushchair only to be replaced by one of the quaffing parents, the other one being tasked with pushing them home. 2. The remainder of the time: a well-ordered, no-nonsense place. The staff are quite welcoming and efficient. I have never attended a live music event, but I hear that they are good. Food prices seem a bit pricey to me. Drinks are, of course, much more expensive than Wetherspoon’s, but then again, I suppose it’s a choice between a nice, calm, pleasant venue (i.e., here) or one that resembles, at times, a night shelter. There are no mirrors in the Gents- just as well considering the state of the men I’ve seen here.

Beautiful old pub with very tall ceiling, lots of different seating options. Small food menu but very tasty, we had the burgers and they were lovely.

Used to go here a lot. love the pub and the staff were always ace.The hat issue is nonsensical though . As a bald man i am quite self conscious without my hat. I was told there was an incident but surely a pub that doesn't take cash knows all the customers details as soon as they buy a drink with their card. Its really unfortunate as i used to go here all the time but now don't feel comfortable. 'Hats off ' to the door staff who had to deal with this policy as they were as fantastic as i was stubborn.

Really nice pub visit, had been meaning to go there for a while, but didn't get the chance! Upon entering found it to be very spacious and welcoming. They had a band on when we went which was fun, and we found it was friendly towards kids. The staff were also really nice, friendly and welcoming (which sometimes is quite rare!) The food (starters and mains) were tasty, better then most of the pubs we've been to recently! The only thing that let it down were the desserts, they didn't taste great at all, a bit of a strange flavour to them but all in all we'd definitely go to the pub again and more often too!

One of the better pubs the Leyton/Leytonstone area. Only been for Sunday Lunch but atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. Could have spent all day there. Had Beef roast, good meat (and generous) also the red cabbage was great. Spuds could have been more crisp and gravy could of had more power. Also had double cheese burger, cauliflower harrissa hummus, leek/cauliflower bake, pardon peppers, sausage roll. Sausage roll was the highlight. Everything else was good pub food but to take it to the next level could have done with everything being amped up a bit on the flavour. Very good prices on wine and local ales.

We had been to the 'Luna Lounge'' but not enjoyed it, as we needed to catch up and it was too loud. We moved on to the 'Red Lion'. I loved the comfy sofas and the atmosphere was chilled but with a good vibe. It was a Saturday and sport was happening on a TV screen somewhere.

Visited this week for lunch and had possibly one of the best burgers I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot of burgers).. The burger was cooked perfectly and the marmalade sauce was superb. The chips, so often neglected much like a poor relation, were excellent - very crispy but fluffy on the inside. All in all I would thoroughly recommend.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Elizabeth room for one night and it was absolutely beautiful, the bed was sooooo comfortable and the power shower was amazing after a long day at a wedding. The staff were lovely and it was easy to access the building in the early hours with our key card. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to others!!

I normally love this pub, but I visited yesterday evening (Thursday 7th July around 8.30pm) and boy has their customer service plummeted. The guy at the bar next to me brought his pint back in obvious distress saying 'I just swallowed bleach!!''. The young person behind the bar at first ignored him, then when he said it again more distressed she just looked at him like she couldn't care less, she mumbled 'oh yeah they weren't supposed to turn the label round on that pump but they did, so I poured you a pint must have had cleaning stuff in it, can give u some water or something'. He looked on obviously horrified and was like where's the manager!' she just pointed vaguely across the bar and was like 'over there somewhere'. I couldn't believe it. I was like, have you heard of first aid? this is pretty serious!? what if that was a pregnant woman? Really seriously put me off. Then we ordered food and even though the place was really quiet it took nearly an hour to arrive. I went to ask where our food was and was met with the same apathy from a muscle bound bar tender who just really didn't seem to care at all. Think I'll start going elsewhere unless they address this problem!

Food fine (fish and chips) but, first beer selected - Five Points - was 'off'. From the first sip, it was clearly tart and had gone-off. It looked fine, smelled fine but wasn't. My pointing this out led to the charade of multiple bar staff inspecting my beer, pulling more beer into a small glass and inspecting that, and then my being told that it 'was fine'. At no time, did anyone of the two members of staff involved taste the beer in question. Somewhat reluctantly, and entirely because of my insistence, it was agreed to allow me to choose a replacement pint. Upon leaving the pub, my group noted that the Five Points beer remained on sale to future customers. If you are going to offer beer for sale, might I suggest that someone behind the bar is at least able (or willing) to taste said beer? Or, as an alternative strategy, just accept the customer's word without being grudging and sniffy about it? Thanks!

Nice pub. Live music when we visited Sunday afternoon. Very good roast dinner. Great selection of vegetables. Generous adults and kids portions. Friendly staff.

I think this is probably the most Normal boozer on the high street. I wish the outdoor area had less sand. Seldom see families with small children in here which is definitely a plus for me. the prices are so-so, despite being in zone 4 they're keeping us grounded and reminding us leytonstone is still a part of london with them. There are cheaper pints about but it's got a cosier atmosphere than wetherspoons and it's not overpopulated with IPAs. I've never tried the food but judging by how overrun it seems to be with OAP's on sundays i imagine getting a table requires some pre-planning.

The place looks very old and dull from outside but the moment you enter you can feel a country side pub vibe and the staff are very friendly. Also there are games at late hours to engage the public and above all lovely live music.

We booked here as we have family living nearby and they highly recommended this hotel. Unfortunately the day before we are were due to arrive, my partner fell ill with covid. As it was so late, I fully expected the best case scenario to be offered a date change and worst case, having to pay the full room rate for the missed night. I phoned the hotel and the gentleman who answered could not have been more helpful or polite. He immediately cancelled the booking, said he would waive the fee and wished my partner a speedy recovery. We will definitely be staying and using the restaurant here in the future. Top notch customer. Service and given by a small company that could easily have been justified in not refunding given the short notice. Thank you!

Very nice bar that wasn't overcrowded. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Prices typical for the area. Rooms were very nice and clean. The rooms are named after Kings and Queens, or at least the top floor were. Good access to the hotel part during and out of the pub working hours. Would definitely recommend a stay here but just be wary that there are no lifts. Good choice of places to eat and drink in the area or you can dine and drink at The Red Lion itself.

Spectacular roast. Been a while since we had a decent Sunday roast in a pub but we couldn't fault this. Beef was edge to edge pink but fat was rendered. Potatoes were fluffy/crispy and the variety of veg was great (sweet carrots, buttery leeks and sharp cabbage). Cauliflower cheese side was also the perfect consistency and well seasoned. House wine was a great value Romanian red. Really wasn't expecting much but will 100% be back for the food, clearly they've focused on quality here. Have paid a lot more in supposed gastropubs and been disappointed. Selection of beers and vibe was also great, but this was expected.

Not a child friendly pub. The website advertises a full children's menu but it doesn’t actually have one. We brought my two year old there for his birthday and there was no kids food nor would the supervisor ask the kitchen to make anything child size or friendly. The very limited menu only had fried food on it and it was not very nice at all. I was genuinely surprised at how unhelpful the supervisor was - blaming management for not changing the website but did nothing to accommodate for the children. Bar staff are nice but other than that no reason to go back given the bad service, greasy food and long wait for everything, including a plate of oily hummus.

I had a good Sunday roast with my family here today. It is a family friendly pub and spacious enough that you don't hear what the other people are talking about. The waiters and waitresses are also friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back here again.

Very nice hotel, with a pub attached to it. There is live music in the evening from time to time. The location is a little bit far from the center, but is located close to a metro station, so one could get along easily. The service was very kind, we informed them that we are arriving in the middle of the night and they waited especially for us.

Went for dinner with some friends. We all ordered burgers and the nachos on the side. The nachos were the worst nachos I've ever seen. The nachos were all burnt but yet the cheese, scarce as it was, was somehow not melted. Healthy lashings of salsa and guac but no sour cream. 2 or 3 jalapeños and drenched in some nasty hot sauce. The burgers, although at first looked good, fell apart within seconds and were absolutely dripping with water. The buns couldn't handle it and after first bite a knife and fork were needed. The staff were friendly however and the beers were nice and crisp. If you're a drinker I'd suggest this pub. If you enjoy good food stay well away. Very pricey and super low quality.

I'd give it 3.5if that was an option. For a local bar it's OK. You can definitely have a nice time here and get a bite to eat as well. Its chilled throughout the day and has a bit of a party vibe on weekend nights. Worth a visit.

Used to be a local favourite, but I've really gone off this place. The staff, menu/food and ambiance aren't what they used to be. This pub really needs to rediscover itself. The doormen on a weekend are just an unprofessional hassle, they even insisted on pat down searching my 67yr old mum at 21:00 on a Saturday (we didn't go in, absolutely not having that).

Food is fantastic, pricy, but excellent. Great range of beers and massive beer garden. But complete lack of sofas in side. New seats are a bit uncomfortable, and gets a bit cold during the winter

Lovely big old pub with high ceilings and great history. Very good bar staff and a decent selection of beers. I have been let down by the occasional bad pint, though rare.

What an incredible Sunday roast, will be the first and only meal of the day. By far exceeded my expectations. The Red Lion is such a great pub and really is an essential part of the fabric of the community. Love the live music and the Jazz on Sundays, often featuring proper legends.

Been there on Saturday with mates. At first the DJ was playing the music too loud so I lost my voice but that was before people started to dance. After however the music was on the right level. I am happy I went to try this pub. Kitchen closes at 9pm. And the chips were delicious. Definitely recommend to try this pub, but do get in early as it can easily fill up quickly.
