Lately, I have mixed feelings about NorthStar. It was one of my favourite places when I moved to Leeds three years ago, but a few times, it is letting me down, and I will try to explain. The atmosphere is relaxed, which is essential for a coffee shop and the service always perfect, but you have the feeling that there is a rush to get you out of the table or most of the time, the tables are booked. This destroys the sense of a coffee shop, and I don't mean to stay at a table for two hours, but when I have coffee, breakfast and dessert, I cannot do it in one hour. The tastes are not for everyone, but you will find dishes not available in other places in Leeds. Although that the quality of the ingredients are high, I find that it is not always fresh, and I will explain myself. I had yesterday Eggs benedict and a chocolate croissant. The croissant wasn't from the same day, although they have a bakery, and on my Eggs plate, the biscuit wasn't also fresh. The coffee, as always, was excellent. I will revisit the shop as I love their coffee and the bakery selection.

Exemplary! With bells on. Food not cheap, but it's absolutely delicious and extremely yummy. Great place to stop for a bite if you find yourself in the environs of Leeds Dock. Lovely, welcoming, friendly, obliging staff. Lofty dining space with big windows, great for people watching. Has additional covered outdoor seating to the front. A company with good sound ethics. Sells bags of the coffee and chocolate that it serves - mind you, £12 for a small bag of the choccie buttons was out of my price range. Makes totally delicious hot chocolate though! NB: This is a card payment only establishment, no cash payments. Super tasty range of vegetarian/vegan options. I can definitely recommend the mushrooms on sourdough - roast mushrooms topped with spinach, chestnuts and goats cheese and dill yoghurt. Everything about this place is marvelous. I'm definitely up for a revisit. Bravo! Highly recommended.

I stumbled across this cafe whilst visiting relatives in Leeds. The bruschetta (first photo) was one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. Fresh, and so much flavour in the simple ingredients. Even the bread and tomato ketchup (which my partner had with his meal) were amazing. I wouldn't have expected so much from a simple dish in a cafe. I was honestly stunned. Coffee was fantastic, staff friendly and the food a really great price. Because I loved the food so much I also bought a sausage roll to take away and see if their bakery dishes were just as good and I wasn't let down! Cheesy jalapeno sausage roll - it was beautiful. I cannot recommend this cafe highly enough. It is hands down the best cafe I've been to. If I didn't live so far away I would definitely be a regular customer!

A half decent spot, with middle of the road roast and good food. No real complaints besides them throwing us out when the place was busy mid-afternoon and they were shutting. Seems like they would want the business, though understand there has to be a cut off time at some point. Location is good, next to the Armories museum and with ample parking options.

Northstar is undoubtedly one of the top coffee destinations in Leeds, and my go-to choice there is their impeccable flat white. Quite simply, it stands as the pinnacle of flat white perfection I've ever had the pleasure of savouring in my lifetime.

My first ever visit of this coffee shop today was met by a resounding hello from all the staff. It was unexpected but very nice receive such a warming welcome. The cappuccino was intense in flavour but very nice. I ordered the porridge which took the right amount of time to make (tells me it was made from scratch) and was worth the wait. The atmosphere was nice and warm with a friendly atmosphere. The staff appeared to be happy and all enjoyed what they do. I'll be going back and bringing friends and family with me.

I have been visiting this cafe during the pandemic and i really love their bakery and coffee. Today I went for brunch and I ordered the brûlée banana salted caramel pancake and scrambled egg on sourdough. Both of the dishes were so delicious especially the pancake. The only think I did not like is the mocha, i think it was made from dark chocolate and it was very bitter i did not like it. As a customer service their so friendly and greeting Overall, I'll be visiting again.

Generally speaking I prefer longer coffees and you don't get a massive amount but the coffee here is so good it completely makes up for volume with incredible flavour. Extremely recommended.

2 Hot Chocolates to go turned into a 20 minute wait for two micro take away cups with warm-ish frothy chocolate-ish flavoured liquid.... for a whole £7.20! Took longer to wait for the drinks than it took to drink the 3 mouth fulls. Definitely not worth the money or the wait! Maybe the coffee is better?

One of the best breakfasts I've eaten out in a long time. Lovely oatmeal, great texture and flavour. Yoghurt, plum compote and almond topping perfectly complemented it. High quality flat white, well presented. Would definitely go back.

The coffee is consistently great, the staff are super friendly and the area that it's in is really nice. We usually sit outside under the small sheltered but that they have but the inside is really chill as well.

Interesting as they roast coffee here and I make fresh ground hario filter coffee every morning. I had Americano thought I would like it but didn't. A bit sour tasting for my taste.

Went for first time since pandemic last week on. A Thursday afternoon. Pandemic response is great for takeout - queue outside, order at shielded kiosk. You can take seats inside too. They still do an awesome piccolo, and their vegan salt choc chip cookie is a great accompaniment. I would also like to strongly compliment their delivery service which I have relied on during pandemic to keep me in good beans.

Disappointing experience. Nice shop and decent coffee but the perspex, masks and fact you can't get in further than 2 feet past the door made it unwelcoming. I want to go up to the coffee bar when I order coffee, not place an order with a guy with an ipad at the front door. Also had to takeaway/sit outside since all the tables were booked. Won't be coming back until you turn back into a normal coffee shop I'm afraid.

I ordered salted caramel brownie and latte for breakfast. The brownie is moist, delicious and not too sweet. It's a decent size for £3.25 unlike those you get from high street which is really tiny. The coffee was tasty too, you can smell the scent from the coffee bean and it is one of the best coffee I have had in Leeds so far. However my friend ordered hot chocolate and it didn't taste like normal hot chocolate we expected, so I would definitely recommend to order coffee. The indoor space is very spacious but not many seatings available. I went there on Saturday afternoon and it's pretty popular, I had to wait for a bit for seating. The staff was kind and nice but most of them were really busy.

Great coffee, so many to choose from as well, all the information about each of them easily available. An excellent setting and a good range of baked goods (sweet and savoury) on offer as well. I didn't get to go inside so I'm holding off the last star till I get to go back and sit inside, however, I'm pretty sure it will live up to expectation. If you're in the area, check them out, super friendly, super quick service and great quality.

Really wouldn't go again. Went on Sunday just looking for a large caramel latte with soy milk. Waited about 5 minutes at their waiting area before my husband and I were acknowledged by staff. I ask for the above. I was told they don't do syrups so I was like fine, I'll just have a normal latte. No issues there. I was then told they only had oat or almond milk. I'm not a massive fan of either but I went with oat as it was the best option for me out of the two. I paid the £3 expecting my large coffee to come and the gent brings over a small cup. I have anxiety and felt awkward saying anything so I just took it away. I took a picture next to my hand for comparison. This coffee was so bitter, I swear I was drinking ashtray water. It was disgusting. I had to put 4 sugars in to make it bearable. I love going to independent coffee shops but I won't be visiting again. The value and quality just weren't up to scratch. The experience was definitely disappointing.

Great Coffee shop, a little different, funky with delicious artisan bread made next door. I had scrambled egg with cheese/rye/bread, yummy. Staff very friendly. Toilets exceptionally clean.

Won't be going again. £3 for the smallest and not particularly the nicest latte I've had. Greated in bathroom by something that looked like it had just been fished out of docks.. Otherwise polite staff.

Cozy place with few delicious brunch options. I had the French toast it was a piece of art with good crunch. They offer fresh brewed coffee and bakery options from next door. Staff are friendly and the service is quick. I feel the place could do with more comfy chairs though.

Why does North Star coffee taste bitter and so sour? I love the idea of independent roasters but I don’t enjoy the sour taste of the coffee. At home I use an Aeropress with Union house blend beans that I grind with a burr grinder and I love good coffee. I got a takeaway coffee from here, they also use this coffee in Skipton at a vegan cafe, but each time I drink it it’s consistently sour tasting. I’ve drank coffee in really good places in Italy, France, New York but this North Star taste is Bizarre.

This place is just amazing. Love how great the customer service is and also BEST coffee ever. I’ve just tried the brownies and the toast (loved them) but honestly, everything looks so good. Definitely going back there soon. It’s a MUST place to visit when you are in Leeds. :)

Happy coffee enthusiast. Laura provides amazing customer service. Highly recommend this place. I ended up buying the aeropress from there rather than online retailers.

My OH loves their coffee and unexpectedly (for coffee specialists) their jasmine tea is brewed to perfection. I would go there just for the tea. However the food is delicious as well, especially the cakes and pastries which are from Nova, next door. Staff are v friendly and polite and the atmosphere is relaxed. As they say the devil is in the detail and they've bothered to get the detail right.

Popped in during a wander around Leeds for a quick coffee and cake. I went with the server’s suggestion of Flat White and Peanut Butter Blondie. Massively enjoyable and highly recommend..! So if you want to escape the crowds of the city centre, take a wander to Leeds Docks and enjoy a treat and rest at North Star…

THE best chicken ceasar salad sandwich ever, and the salted caramel brownie was scrumptious. All in eco containers too. Well done guys!

The barista seemed more interested in trying to sell a coffee machine to another customer than making the coffees we’d already paid for, I could’ve gone home, made a coffee and come back in the time it took to get my coffee. The portions are also small in comparison to most other coffee shops. Overall the experience isn’t worth the price.

My review is for the coffee that you can order through the website. Recently I just bought a very cheap espresso machine, and after searching the web for a place to order some roasted coffee to go with the new machine, I came about North Star Roast website. Having a look at the different types of cofee they are selling, I have decided to try 4 of them: the decaff, the one from Brazil, the one from El Salvador, and their common one which they call the Docks. The ordering process was quite easy and I have received the order pretty quick aswell by post. After brewing the coffee in my espresso machine, I have to say it was the best coffee experience I had in my life. I can't believe I have been buyin so much coffee and I never tasted the richness and beauty of it as I am tasting it from the brew made with North Star Roaster's coffee blends. Thank you very much for the good coffee you guys are making. Keep up the good work, and you certainly won me as a regular customer. I hope sometime I might be able to pay a visit to your shop as well (living a bit far away from Leeds I am afraid). Good Luck! Yours happy satisfied customer!

Dog and child friendly too.
