I love this cafe so much. My friends and I have been going here for maybe a year now, but I’ve never thought of giving a review until this moment. The bagels are tasty, the cakes are nice, and the Victoria Sponge is probably my favourite in all of Edinburgh. The coffee is consistently good too. The decor is very eclectic, friendly, and warm. There’s a certain alternative vibe to it without trying too hard to achieve that. The owner and the staff are super friendly and welcoming.

A nice cafe with retro decor. We tried the stuffed bagels, one vegan with falafel & aubergine and the other with ham & blue cheese, and both were delicious. Coffee was fine. A great place for lunch or a break from work.

Beautifully decorated, cosy cafe, with great food options. Very popular for take-away hot drinks. Plenty of space and light; seems to be popular for studying too.

Great atmosphere, small and cozy — they do have a limit on laptop use so this isn’t the place to stay for hours to get work done but definitely a spot to chat with friends and loved ones. Staff are also incredibly kind

Very special place with delicious food and friendly atmosphere. Every Wednesday from 7pm till 9pm there's an open mic night. You can order cakes and coffee and listen to some amazing music and poetry by local artists and it's my favourite place.Come and check it out.

It was a lovely day outside and I chose August 21 for my study session today. There is wifi and plenty of plugs. Such a cozy atmosphere with the nicest staff. Great selection of sandwiches, cakes, scones and coffee. There are more spaces at the back and some books, board games and cards for people to enjoy. Very dog friendly as well with available dog treats. There are also some beautiful local art on the walls that I didn't put here because you should definitely see for yourselves. I recommend a visit whether you just need some coffee to take away, want to enjoy your book in peace or need a study space that will keep you focused!

Had coffee and a light lunch with my family. Great feedback on the hot chocolate and tea. Soup of the day was lintel and it was really good. Service was great! There were lots of locals which is always a good sign.

Very nice and super cosy coffee place, sort of out the way but can get busy at times. However, atmosphere and decor is great and coffee is amazing, would reccomend wholeheartedly.

Cosy little coffee joint in the south side. Haven't had their food, but their coffee is worth stopping in for. Nice friendly service to greet you as well. A tranquil place to relax and enjoy your coffee.

A great find, delicious soups, bagels, coffee and excellent cakes - every time I've been I've managed to get a table in the back room which was great!

A21 is a great little coffee chop just off meadows based in Newington, family owned I think, owner is incredibly nice and accommodating. Would highly recommend as a secluded cafe just off the Main Street. (point rewards scheme as well 👀👀) They have a free book library, board games, and local art for sale too :)

One of my favourite coffee places in Edinburgh. Nice to see cassette players still in use.

Cute place with cozy vibes and delicious pastries but coffee was a little lackluster and tables (tried more than one table) were sticky 🥲 Still, worth a visit for a quiet afternoon if you just want to read away (which is what I observed some other customers doing) The neighborhood is super cute too!

Artistic cafe with unique interior making sweet coffee and serving plenty of treats! Their brownies are outworldly! Prices are reasonable and the staff is very accommodating!

Very nice place to go and read on the window sill. I found it a bit pricey but considering ethically sourced anything is expensive, I think it's a fair price. The place is cozy and the staff super friendly.

The coffee was really good, they were able to make exactly what we wanted even if it wasn't exactly on the menu. The Veggie Sandwhich was super good and the almond croissant was incredible. They also have tons of local art on the back wall for sale and a hidden little gem of second-hand clothes for sale as well, lots of adorable 90s windbreakers.
