This remarkable museum dedicated to the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah is not just a museum; it's a journey through history. Seeing his personal belongings like the piano, coat, and telephone was humbling. The museum's collection of historical artifacts is extensive, offering a deep dive into Ghana's past. A must visit for anyone interested in history and the legacy of this great leader .

The story of Kwame Nkrumah and his dream for Africa! Beautiful and well maintained park. Our guide was knowledgeable and courteous. We visited during the week and it wasn't crowded. The audio visual library was my favorite place

This is located on a strip of historical landmarks in the city. It is almost never crowded and a gorgeous place to take the family to learn about Our Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah! So much history here, I love visiting every time I get back home!

The museum is a great tribute to the first president of Ghana, a lot more has to be improved like the roadside street lights in front of the museum for safety reasons and build another restroom. It's a great renovation overall. 👏🏾👏🏾

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is understaffed. You’d have to wait in queue no matter the time of day you visit. I recommend buying tickets ahead of time. If you’re there to actually tour the place, your chances of getting a tour guide are very slim. You see school children trooping in, in large numbers especially getting close to the weekends and knowing that the guides are just few, you’d be sure that some will just pass through and take pictures without proper history lessons and explanations. The renovations to the place are awesome. With the introduction of the walk-through audio museum, snack bars and others. What they didn’t factor in, is operation and definitely maintenance. Hear me - tourists had read about the place and seen videos of the fountain ⛲️ They wanted to come down and experience it, which they did. When they got here, they were told that the person who turns on the fountain is not around!!!! How??? The grass is already starting to look bad. I’d be disappointed if this place goes back to the way it was just under a year.

A well known site to Ghanaians and people all around the world. Whether you are her on business or on for pleasure stop by. There is so much history and knowledge that can be found at this center. Affordable entrance fee and multiple things to do. My favorite part was the benches and shaded grass area. The grass area is perfect for lounging or a picnic should time allow. I would suggest bringing your own drinks and food as the food there was overly expensive. The museum was nice, but a quick question walk through experience. I didn’t have a guide so that may lend to a different experience. Looking forward to returning next year with a larger group.

A place where Ghana's life begins. The good memories of the first President of Ghana are kept here and I see it to be where the real history of Ghana begins here. If his legacy can be taken and worked upon by every other African President, Africa will rise again and shall impact the world.

The landscape of the Memorial Park, presents it as quite serene. There is a wheelchair access area. But the sitting area for eating or snacking must be improved. But a nice place for photographs. Much to learn about Kwame Nkrumah.

This location should be one of the highlights of Ghana being that this is the first President of Ghana. However, the attraction hasnt be kept up. There is no water for the fountains, the upkeep is an embarrassment. You can tell it was absolutely beautiful at its inception but renovations of the upkeep of this attraction is of dire need. Where is the money going that is taken from the tourist daily that pay to see this attraction? If it was properly kept, I'd give 5 stars.

This is a memorial park and museum to the first President of Ghana. The place itself it's a bit depressing, because it's run down and not well maintained at all. If it were restored it would be an very interesting place to visit while in Ghana. There are free tour guides on site that will narrate to you the history of Kwame Nkrumah along with the significance of the park. Get one of those guides otherwise you will not enjoy this park.

Very beautiful historic site. A must-visit for anyone coming into Ghana. Chronicles the life and contributions of Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah. Indeed these type of men were scarce back then in Africa, and am afraid they are going into extinction today. We must read his, and others stories like Mandela, and be challenged to do more for the greater good!

A must see in Accra. Great place to homage and learn history of the great Kwame Nkrumah. Go for the history and while you are there take beautiful pictures. Bring a lunch to share under a shady tree before you go. Bonuses; fountains, peacocks, and Arts Center is next door for shopping for authentic hand made African fashions and art.

For me, I was able to get a feel of where Ghana is coming from through this visit. This is a very good initiative by the Government of Ghana. The place is well kept and easily accessible. Within the Museum, you get to see everything that has got to do with Kwame Nkrumah, from his pictures to his famously worn dresses to his office table, his school locker and so much more. I also love the fact that everything was kept as it was most especially the vandalised statues of Kwame Nkrumah. The garden also provides sitout and picnic opportunities.

What a shame that a very historic and interresting site are not properly looked after! The museum is dirty, too hot and really run down. The memorial is supposed to have water all around it, but it is dry and the general state of the garden is not well kept. I am afraid that in a few years time nobody would want to pay to see this.

It was an amazing experience learning about Kwame Nkrumah's life and the way he fought for what Ghana is today. I also had the opportunity to see the museum (couldn't take pictures). I saw trees planted by every single President or head of states that had visited Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah's grave side is also in the premises.

It's a great place to learn about the life and times of Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana. It was also nice to see some of our past Nigerian leaders pictures in the museum with him. Pictures are not allowed in the museum but you can take pictures in the park... It always makes a great place for pictures.

The park also contains some of the clothes and items that was originally used by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah himself.

Fascinating and inspiring place, with the focus on audio-visual exhibition of the late Presidents achievements and quotes rather than physical artifacts... Which can definitely do with a refreshed approach to display and context. The new outer buildings with the pools, fountains and statues are strikingly different. Why photography isn't allowed inside is beyond me. A lovely shaded area under yes had been created with tables and seating for a picnic or meals

The museum stands as a remarkable tribute to Ghana's inaugural president. It excels in elucidating the origins and enduring impact of this iconic figure. The memorial's symbolism is both elegant and thought-provoking, and I truly valued the insightful guidance from our tour guide. However, there are some areas in need of enhancement, such as the installation of street lights along the roadside in front of the museum for safety, and the addition of an extra restroom. Despite these considerations, the comprehensive renovations are undeniably impressive. The park's layout is particularly appealing, offering ample green spaces and comfortable seating areas. I was particularly enamored with the incorporation of Adinkra symbols into the park's design elements, adding an extra layer of cultural significance to the entire experience.

This is a nice museum dedicated to Ghana's founding father. There was plenty of parking available. It was easy to get tickets. You can have a self guided or guided tour and we opted for the latter although the guided tour wasn't explicitly listed as an option. We randomly happened to be behind a group that was getting the guided tour and it was offered to us. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip fun. Definitely make sure to ask for a guide if you are interested. Overall, it was an educational trip and I learned a lot. Highly recommended.

A great place to visit as a tourist, local families and excursions groups. A tribute to Dr Nkrumah Ghana's first ever president who fought for Ghana's independence from colonial rule. A nice place to take in a piece of Ghana's culture and history. It can be busy with groups but there is ample space. There is parking but it is also easy to reach here by public transport. Be aware that locals with ID get preferential rates to enter.

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Museum is a place where you can learn about the life of a significant person in the history of Ghana. The museum is designed in a way that helps you understand and connect with his story. The museum is in a beautiful park with greenery and fresh air. Our only problem was that our guide seemed tired, which affected our experience a little bit. However, I would recommend this museum to anyone wanting to learn more about Ghana's history and independence.

It is "Open" but "not open"... we were actually going to Osu Castle - btw it is open to public Sat/Sun only as it's still a functioning office- and saw the Memorial Park so we stopped and asked if we could walk around and they said yes...the staff / grounds keeper (??) was very knowledgeable and provided a walking history tour - they are looking to make it more of a traditional interactive park so thats the confusion along with it just wrapped up construction - for grounds / staff consideration we did tip - amount of your discretion

So I’ve been living in Accra for so many years but have never visited the Nkrumah memorial park. So I decided to go. I like the new look of the place. Very modern looking but full of the African culture. Actually I was kind of expecting more history but I just didn’t get enough of it. Overall I like the experience, this place is beautiful. But I feel like more of Ghanaian rich culture can be added to make the park more interesting.

This has to be the best visitor attraction Ghana has produced in ages. A truly fitting memorial to your cherished founding president. Yet to see it at night when all the lighting effects can be appreciated but even by day the audio visual effects (fountains and music) are surprisingly good. A place where you want to dwell for hours and large enough that you feel you can't quite see it from every photogenic angle in one visit. I didn't have to queue for admission but I gather it can be a problem. Still work to be done but 👏 and 👒 off to the designers you can be proud of yourselves.

When you get out your vehicle there are entrepreneurs with items to buy if you want. My party bought some keychains for a very reasonable price. The lobby is air conditioned, has clean restrooms, and a few good picture spots. The guided tour is both inside and outside. They do not allow photography of any kind inside. The tour is actually very short. Maybe 20 minutes with a short break for photos on the balcony. It is wheelchair accessible. I am a big reader, so if you can do it without the big group, I would recommend that because I felt a little rushed. The only thing is the tour guide provided very good information, so maybe do the tour with the guide and then go back, if you're a nerd like me. The place was beautiful. It is 20 min of walking/standing so beware. And it's Ghana so the outside side parts will be hot and humid. We had a bonus because it was Accra Fashion Week!

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum building in Ghana The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park is located in downtown Accra, the capital of Ghana. Quick Facts: Established, Location ... Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum Kwame Nkrumah's grave inside the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial in Accra It is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah. The memorial complex was dedicated in 1992, and is situated on the site of the former British colonial polo grounds in Accra. The mausoleum, designed by Don Arthur, houses the bodies of Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah. The building is meant to represent an upside down sword, which in Akan culture is a symbol of peace. The mausoleum is clad from top to bottom with Italian marble, with a black star at its apex to symbolize unity. The interior boasts marble flooring and a mini mastaba looking marble grave marker, surrounded by river-washed rocks. A skylight at the top in the mausoleum illuminates the grave. The mausoleum is surrounded by water, a symbol of life. A video of the mausoleum can be found here. See also Atta Mills's Mausoleum at Asomdwee Park in Accra, Ghana. Mausoleum of the first President Kwame Nkrumah and Madam Fatiha. Saw the casket that was used for the 20yrs laying in state, lots of pictures and information. Place can be better kept, more information in the garden, the fountains should be fixed. Good heritage and information.

We visited on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon to take a look at the newly renovated park. I never saw the original so I don’t have a frame of reference to point to. The remodeled park looks beautiful and the museum quite informative. Though I hate chickens, I found it lovely that he used to rear chickens in childhood and there were chickens roaming freely in the park. The gift shop is also lovely with some quintessentially Ghanaian mementos if you choose to buy.

Quite unfortunately, I believe I visited this place at the wrong peak time , it was day 2 of independence celebration for Ghana 🇬🇭, there were students all over the place( learnt they had public holiday ) and there was no way for me to make it inside the mausoleum. Even the traffic getting there was really bad. A local told me Saturdays are one of the best days to visit as there’s usually less crowd . I Imagine I’d plan this accordingly in my itinerary the next time I visit .

Beautiful park, there was a beauty fair going on the day we visited so there were lots of things to buy, hair and skin beauty products. The park is neat and there’s snacks and foot to buy, lots of seating area as well. The highlight was the museum, very detailed and showed Kwame Nkrumah’s life work, his story, how he died, some of his belongings were also on display. It was a beautiful experience. It costs 100 Ghana Cedis per person for us because we are not Ghanaian citizens.

The John Evans Atta Mills street that leads though Jamestown to the Mausoleum is a traffic prone area. The site itself is quite and serene. There is a garden area that bears many trees planted by several political figures across the world during their visits. Kwame Nkrumas car is also available for viewing on site but cased in a glass chamber where no one is allowed to enter but only view from outside. The tombs of Kwame Nkrumah and the wife are present as well as a Museum where no photography is allowed. Lastly there is a very old vandalised statue of Kwame Nkrumah without a right arm and head. The head sits next to it. History has it that, during a mob attack in the past. The angry protestor kicked it down, causing the damage and split of the statue parts. Which were long lost and found years after.

Disappointing visit. The mausoleum was okay. The parks were okay too. However, the museum looked like it was in a bad shape and there wasn’t much of a tour. Gift shop was closed as well. Expected way more for the memorial grounds of Kwame Nkrumah.

The place definitely needs some major maintenance (no water in the fountains, buildings/structures in need of upkeep/renovation), will force you to deal with a number of touts trying to get your tourist dollars at exaggerated prices, and is near one of the rougher areas of the coast. But...the history of the independence leader, and first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is an indelible part of Ghana's history, and well worth taking sometime to explore. The small museum, containing some of the personal effects, literary works, and photographs of the man's journey as a leader is worth a visit, and will give you context into the struggle for Ghanaian independence, and its formation as a modern country. The central memorial/tomb is beautifully constructing (even if it is in need of maintenance). And do stop by the small gift shop, where, unlike the touts outside, they will charge you a fair price for their wears (bonus tip: make sure to get yourself one of the cool folding fans). The memorial's employees are pleasant and professional. Give this a go, and take in some of the life of the late President Nkrumah.

Love the garden but hate the fact that there is no water 💦 in the foundations. It's unbelievable to experience such scene for a great person like our 1st President Kwame Nkrumah

  • 5/5 Hannah I. 2 years ago on Google
The memorial park is really a good place for tourists, you'll see different tourist there taking pictures and exploring, you would see kwame Nkrumah old car, the podium he makes speech, his statue, his coffin, old clothes, pictures, and other things that belongs him. There's a fee to enter, 3 Ghana cedis for Ghanaians, and 10 Ghana cedis for foreigners.

Place was gorgeous as it has been newly renovated...it still has some work to be done though. Learnt alot about late President Kwame Nkrumah and his life from his personal possessions and his work. As a Ghanaian i was charged 25 cedis. You get to tour with a tour guide but we did our own thing. Had lots of fun

The museum is rich in the history of Ghana, which has strong connections to African and I ternational countries. The icon of Pan Africanism Kwame Nkrumah's life was easily depicted, which included his contributions to the development of not only Ghana but South Africa at large. Our female tour guide, whose name is Awuracy, was really a legend in how she narrated all the stories to become very interestingly memorable.

One of the reasons I am in love with Ghana is their culture, art and history! Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park encompasses all that. You'll get an understanding of the history of Ghana and their founding fathers. You'll get a peak at their unique architecture, the political history of Kwame Nkrumah, his family and see where he was buried (PS: his wife is buried next to him). You'll also get to see some of the quotes he's known for and see a video of his speeches. It's also a great place to just chill and unwind. They sell food and there's music as well. You'll get to see some art and the classic car driven by Kwame Nkrumah, the piano he played amongst other belongings of his. I highly recommend you visit the park when you are in Ghana
