Ouidah museum is actually the last standing edifice that represents the story of the slave trade amongst the major participants in the transatlantic slave transactions. It also gives you insight on the history of the ouidah people. One remarkable thing that caught my attention is the manner in which the king of Dahomey treated their subjects before the advent of the slave merchants.

A lot of history!!! You must hear and see for yourself. The history of the trans Atlantic slave trade and African kingdoms that existed during the time is truly a revealing one. It's amazing how black communities in the diaspora (in places such as South America and the Caribbean) have preserved certain elements of their culture for centuries and the striking similarities between those cultures and that of certain West African communities today. P.S. This museum needs a face lift however... without damaging the history; I felt that it wasn't in the best shape.

Getting to ouidah from the border was quite the distance, Ngl. But I was very surprised to see how great the city is. At the museum, you’ll learn a lot about the city’s history. Definitely worth the trip! I didn’t enjoy the immigration experience both ways to be honest.

This place is historic, very close to “place of no return” there is guide who takes you through the museum, you are not allowed to take pictures. My friend translated in English as I don’t speak French, if you don’t understand French, I advice you come with a translator to this historic place (Ouidah) generally so you can learn and enjoy your stay.

Not very interesting. We took a French guide, but we didn’t feel like we learned or gained anything from it, and the tour took a long time. Also, the employees were incredibly rude to us at the end. It was weird! Even without that jarring part of the experience, would not recommend. Even though we didn’t enjoy it so much, were going to leave a small tip before they literally screamed at us for wanting to take another look at a part that they rushed us through. If you do go, note that you do not have to pay for anything. And you are totally allowed to go through without a guide, but apparently not look at the same part twice. Yikes.
