I was looking for a restaurant to have lunch that was vegan, and by searching on google we’ve discovered Terre à Terre which it is vegetarian and vegan and decided to give it a try. We had no ideia about what to choose because the description on the menu was a bit complex with lots of names that we never heard of, due to that we’ve decided to ask for advice from the staff. We were advised to try the tapas which they described as really good, they also mentioned if we decided to go for that it would be a good ideia to order a portion of chips to complement it. I was a bit unsure of what to expect and wondering why should I have a side of chips that costs £6.95 when I was going to have a dish that costs £23.95 per person that can only be ordered in multiples of 2. I’ve never paid that much for a dish that would make me feel the need to have an extra side as a complement. The person who served our food, explained in detail what we would be eating and advised us on which foods we should have first and explain why. Some was really good and some not so much, some of the flavours doesn’t seem to go well together, I felt overwhelmed with too many flavours in one dish only, sometimes minus is more and in this case I wish more of some items and none of others. I should never go for a shared platter because, from my experience almost always I feel I’m paying too much for what I’m getting and the mixed of flavours is too much. We couldn’t finish the chips because it’s not a good combination of a variety of Japanese flavours and then some chips in between, it’s not a good suggestion and I wish it hasn’t been advised to us. I ended up feeling that I’ve paid way too much for what I ate, and to make it worse I’ve developed strong pain in my stomach about 20 minutes after I’ve finished eating. I had my lunch at about 2.30pm, is now almost 8pm and I haven’t been able to eat anything else as I’m still in pain and agony. I don’t think the pain has been caused by the quality of the food at all, which it was good and very fresh, but I believe it’s from the huge amount of strong flavours mixed together which entered my stomach like a bomb and ruined the rest of my day. We ended up paying almost £60 for 1 coke, 1 shared tapas and 1 portion of chips, no starters, no desserts and I had tap water. I’m certainly not returning.

We celebrated my boyfriend's 40th birthday here last night and were served by Dirk. It was such a pleasant experience, and the food was incredible. It was full of complex, rich flavours, and presented beautifully. Dirk's recommendations were spot on to our tastes and we really enjoyed our overall experience. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone, whether it's a special occasion or you just love excellent food.

A different kind of review this, but I wanted to say thank you to the waitress I had last night (brown hair in a short bob and fringe). The good, service and atmosphere was brilliant as always, but when I started having a unprovoked bout of very poor mental health, she treated me with such kindness and compassion. I was mortified, but she was so understanding and I really really appreciated her.

My first visit in over 3 years due to living abroad. Consistency was excellent, although the tapas has too much seaweed for my personal taste. Still 5 stars tho!

Best vegetarian restaurant in Brighton for English style dishes. Been going there for over 28 years. Highly recommend.

Followed a recommendation here and it was a great suggestion. The share plate gives you a taste of things but not enough to satisfy. Is it pricey for veg? Probably not for the skill behind it. Tasty down to each ingredient.

I have been several times to Terre a Terre and have never been disappointed. I love the subtlety of flavours and quirky menu. It is the best vegetarian food I have ever tasted and the ingredients are locally produced.

Exceptional meal and service here. We have been eating the Terre A Tapas here for so many years now and cannot believe that our recent meal was better than ever. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. We do hope that the team return soon to flourish again. Everything is good. I like it

All wines are organic and suitable for veggies (some are even vegan), and the knowledgeable staff are more than willing to help you choose a tipple to suit your dish. Terre a Terre is an experience in itself, and well worth a visit, even if your favourite food is usually steak! Everything is really good in this place

So pleased they are open! The food is sensational, incredible what they do, it really is. Probably the most taste-packed meal I've had in years.

We were a group of seven, celebrating my eldest daughter's eighteenth birthday. As she is vegetarian, we chose Terre a Terre. I thought that I'd miss having some meat with my meal, but no, the food was absolutely superb. Perfect evening; staff were attentive, food was delicious. My daughter was really pleased with the choice of venue so a great evening out. Many thanks Terre a Terre. Recommend to anyone in the area, but you'll need to book as this is a really popular restaurant.

Very average. I'm not a vegetarian but love veg food. The food was competent, average but unimaginative - service was below average. Overall, just about fine but a disappointment and very expensive for what it is - at least to a non veggie. Could not recommend.

Lovely food, friendly staff and plenty of gluten free options. Even as a meat eater I'd happily come back here. Plus, this was our first restaurant since the Covid-19 lockdown and I was impressed by how well organised there are in facilitating a safe but relaxed dining experience. Would highly recommend.

Came here for my Birthday a couple of weeks ago and it was one of the best meals I've had in Brighton. I had the Vegan Rosti which was utterly delicious and the desserts were some of the best I've ever had.

Definitely lives up to its reputation as one of, if not the best, vegetarian restaurants in the UK. The menu is varied and divine. The atmosphere is fantastic and the location is ideal. I take everyone here at least once for the experience and I will be making many more visits!

Firstly, the worst bit: the wasabi nuts. They’d stuck together in the bottle and just weren’t all that great. Give these a miss - there’s much better to come! The starter was the aubergine dish and it was delicious. Really incredibly well put together - flavours where mind blowingly good and the best starter I’ve ever had I reckon (and trust me I’ve tried a fair few over the decades). If I’d just had the starter it would have been a 5 star review. The main course was the Rosti in vegan option and this was a good solid dish! Maybe a wee bit underwhelming after the amazing starter. I should probably have gone for the originally vegan main (KFC) but was hungry and allowed carbs to dictate, and in that respect it was certainly satisfying. The chocolate pudding (which we shared after the substantial main) was decent and filling with some lovely Cheffy flourishes. Very good indeed. Relaxed unpretentious ambience and excellent service was really superb - thank you! So overall, with tip and coffee, a pretty steep £120 meal (getting on for twice what I’d normally pay) for two that felt much better than most... I’d love to see a bit more innovation on the vegan main bit still a stand-out place to eat if you’re happy to pay a bit more for the privilege.

Wow! Had the tapas to share platters. Lovely flavours, smells & textures made with alot of care. Beautiful to look at too. The staff are very attentive & friendly & made it into, not just a meal, but an amazing experience. I'm not one to be this gushy but it's a special place & worth every penny. It pays to eat out less to be able to afford real quality places. Terre á Terre are one of those. The did a lovely birthday surprise to. Thanks to them for a special evening.

Visited this place twice this week, once for dinner and once for Afternoon Tea. The dinner was fantastic! I'd give it 5 stars. The Afternoon Tea i would give 3 stars. Everything was delicious, but the ratio of savoury to sweet was way off. I reckon it was 75% sweet, which meant that we got sick of the sweet stuff and couldn't even finish it. The waiter told us that very few people ever finish it, which might go to show that there is too much sweet. I would definitely go back for dinner though!

Had the most delicious meal here for our anniversary. We had the vegetarian tapas sharing plate for 2 people and is more than enough. The choices of wine and cocktails is amazing. Also Dirk, who looked after us was excellent with recommendations and generally entertaining and keeping us happy! Would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone - even if you're not a veggie, it's simply amazing!

Yummy veggie food. Some of the flavours are really just stunning. I ordered the battered halluomi dish (as starter) and the dal (as main) tasty! My friends ordered the KFC cauliflower which they both raved about. One of my friends enjoyed the bao buns, which I have had on a previous visit they are good and you get a decent amount of them. 3 of us ordered the snap, crackle and pop dessert and altho it was good we all agreed there was far too much mousse! Less mousse and separate biscuit might have worked better. The orange 🍊 sorbet is soooo good. Menu seemed the same as long time ago. But I guess if it isn't broke, don't fix it.... I'm sure I'll be back at some point to try the other menu items I haven't as yet. The staff are very professional, polite and friendly.

Super friendly and helpful staff. We went for afternoon tea, for a birthday and the food was delicious. I had a veggie one. A bit alternative so don't go expecting sandwiches etc. A little bit pricey but I'm guess that's because of the different and high class ingredients. Also we had to wait 40+ mins between courses (savory to sweet) with a near empty restaurant which was a tad annoying.

Today we visited Terre à Terre for our Valentine's Day lunch. We booked in advance but some people were able to walk in. To drink my wife had a white wine, my son the apple juice and I had the alcohol-free St. Peter's beer. These were all very much enjoyed. For starters we shared the Hushpuppy Plumpkin and the Karekatsu Tofu. Both were incredible in portion size, appearance and taste. Mains were delicious but not as outstanding as our starters. My wife opted for the fungi risotto and I had the tart tatin, that was deconstructed. The purées were smooth and flavourful but the discs of pastry rather than a case were not as expected, just like the cheap paper napkins. Service was prompt and when we found the plastic cover in our mayo the server was quick to apologise. They also took the chips that came with the mayo off the bill without us even asking. We booked a table for 12pm and the restaurant quickly filled. Baby changing is on street level in the accessible toilets with further toilets downstairs. These were cramped and the bumpy floor tiles had dirt in the crevices. After initially visiting for our anniversary and having an unforgettable afternoon tea we were keen to come back. Terre á Terre did not disappoint.

I came here for Valentine’s Day and I have not stopped thinking about it since. Beautiful and intimate atmosphere, even though it was busy. We had the Valentine’s set menu for 2 and it was out of this world, three courses all so beautifully displayed and full of so many different flavours. I’ve never dined with a set menu so I was very excited to see what it would be like, my partner too is a little apprehensive with new foods so it was a food adventure for us both. I’ve never been to a restaurant where the waiter has to explain the intricacies of what’s on the plate when it arrives! The food just left us speechless, it was too good to be true. As a vegan diner, I’m used to only having three options to pick from, so it was amazing to have so much eccentric food to dig into - as well as a long vegan wine list; I find it so hard to find a certified vegan red wine, let alone a tasty one! All the staff were so attentive; they brought our next plates the moment we finished ours and asked us if we wanted refills when they noticed our glasses were empty - we didn’t have to usher them over once. Each one who served us was so lovely, but I only got the name of one - a lovely chap called Dirk! He was so great in helping me navigate the extensive menu and gave wonderful recommendations, he had a generally wonderful bubbly energy and was very funny too. Thank you Dirk!! I am already so excited to go back, but I feel like this night was so special and sacred that I’m going to have to do my best to keep away… for at least a week or two. This place is perfect for a vegan, romantic, fine-dining experience, and I’ll remember it always.

Our host Mark absolutely made our evening. His kindness, honesty and friendliness made our meal so special. The food was wonderful, the drinks (a bottle of Morgan Cru Beaujolais and a chocolate orange martini to finish- both we would recommend one hundred times over) were beautiful, and the service impeccable. We would absolutely recommend Terre à Terre to friends.

Lovely staff, amazing vegan and vegetarian food. Will definitely be back! We had the dumplings (vegan choice) and their smokey scrunch chips. It was delicious and too much to eat in one sitting, so took the rest home for later.

Just the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to. I've visited many times over the years, and nothing comes close to the level of presentation and flavour. My only gripe is that I wish they changed the menu slightly more often, but that's only going to make a difference to you if you've been enough to try everything on it. If you're a vegetarian or an omnivore, I recommend you visit at least once so you can see just what vegetarian food can be.

Had a fantastic experience at the restaurant last night. The food was excellent, flavours bursting and great cider! I'm not a vegetarian but I certainly enjoyed the food. Unfortunately we had a party table right next to us, however we asked to be moved to another table because of the noise they were making. The hosts found a quite spot and gave us an extra free drink at no cost. So all round great service and nice experience.

I came here for my birthday meal and it was delicious. The waiter was attentive and funny and suggested some good things to try. I can recommend the tofu starter and the steamed buns for the main - they were beautifully flavoured and came with an amazing selection of dips and sides. (I’d never tried candied watermelon rind but it was amazing!) I would say this place is a must go for any vegetarian visiting Brighton.

If we could recommend one place in Brighton to go out for a meal, Terre à Terre would be the place. For the past 8 days, we ate out every evening and we both agreed Terre à Terre is our favourite. We were greeted by Mark when we arrived, who made us feel very at ease in these current times. Highlighting, they have made changes to adapt for social distancing. Mark made us feel very much at home and was very charming. Dirk, took our order. He continued the excellent service, charm and was as delightful as Mark. The food is delicious. The different ingredients fused together that really get your taste buds going. The organic wine is clear smooth and refreshing. I couldn't resist trying the organic rum too. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Thank you Dirk and Mark for making my birthday a lovely one and for the excellent service, especially in these current times. We look forward to eating at Terre à Terre when we next visit Brighton and hope to see you both again. Thank you and Best wishes, Asif and Hannah. Xx

Food, drink and service as lovely as ever. But what really set them apart this time was the feeling of safety they created for us in their handling of social distancing, going out of their way to ensure we felt safe whilst food and drink was served and cleared. Would really recommend.

  • 2/5 Mohammed A. 3 years ago on Google
A few issues unfortunately Whilst our drinks and starters arrived promptly, it took.over one hour and a half to be served main courses as the order was lost in the kitchen at some point. We were given cocktails and dessert off the final bill along a free box of truffles which was a kind gesture from a clearly busy genuinely apologetic staff. Starters were excellent. The cheese souffle was just delightful. The focaccia was somewhat dry, however. The main issue was the main course food. The halloumi within the bao buns was inexcusably overcooked - tough and chewy (reminiscent of beef jerky) whilst the rosti reinvented was not overly flavourful in terms of the actual rosti itself (and the green sauce massively underseasoned). For £16.50 a plate this was disappointing after seeing such positive reviews. Dessert was excellent - the churros are highly recommended in terms of flavour and crispness. Overall, not that worth it. Too much focus on having a very fancy sounding menu and not enough focus on the execution and timeliness. Also in the heat of summer, don't have the air con on full whilst having all the doors to the garden area wide open. It makes for a sweltering summer evening meal.

Yet another wonderful evening at Terre a Terre. The most wonderfully creative menus, beautifully prepared and presented food and a team who make you feel like a special guest, every time we visit. Thank you so much, especially to Mark and the team. We'll be back!

Truly outstanding! We have been wanting to visit for a number of years and finally decided on lunch on a free Sunday afternoon. The service was excellent and very friendly and informative; the food was sublime. We decided on starter and main course and throughly enjoyed the well paired flavour combinations of the Oyster and Hen, and Hoi Sin Marinated Tofu. The main course of Vada and Ramen was exquisite and showcased very acomplished flavours. Given the wonderful service, fantsatic food and great experience it was wonderful value!

Absolutely fantastic stuff. I’m a carnivore but didn’t find myself missing a meat component at all. Great service and fair prices to boot.

When we visited for dinner on Saturday evening I was surprised to find that the soap dispenser in the toilets was empty - bearing in mind we're still in a pandemic, and the tables are far too close together to be distanced - no other restaurant I've been to recently has packed people in this tight. When we were approached to be served, two staff members came over at once and had a mini argument about in front of us about who was going to serve us. Ultimately the food was near faultless but the atmosphere, environment and approach to hyigene ruined the experience for us both.

Soggy fries, uninventive drinks and mains, delivered with indifferent service make for a very underwhelming experience. A shame as the menu looks interesting on paper... Sometimes it's all about the delivery. Give this one a pass

Arty food. Very tasty. More on the posh side if that's what you're looking for, so portion sizes are not the best but food is really nice and good service. Bit pricey, be prepared to spend some money here.

The Food is divine, place itself could do with a bit of an upgrade/modernization but can't really complain as the food is was unreal

As a carnivore I was delighted with the food. Vegetarian and vegan food at it's best. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent choice of drinks. Not cheap but worth every penny

Went here around 8 years ago and was truely blown away, however, it seems things have stagnated. Nothing was particularly wrong but it felt like the finesse I remembered was lacking. Chips with the main were rather 'pub like' for the price and the service wasn't particularly warm. Interior needs a refresh but overall a nice evening.

Have adored this restaurant since discovering it over a decade ago...but while I understand the need to raise prices, the portions were smaller than ever before...four tasty bites in starter (Korean cauliflower - used to be a decent sized serving) and the aubergine dengaku which used to be superlative is now an unbalanced tiny helping of aubergine (albeit delicious) with a huge amount of undressed raw salad which did not merit the cost or the labouring to eat it. I was so underwhelmed and disappointed (I am not greedy - just want a nice night out!)...The Salt Rooms are now my number one go to for beautifully prepared vegetarian / vegan meals - they are similar cost but much better portions and well balanced plates...plus the chef there used to work at Terre a Terre!

Oh my god! We went for the valentine's Day tasting menu and it was insanely good. The KFC cauliflower wings were probably my favourite but even my omnivore partner loved everything!!

We had an amazing time celebrating a special occasion with the afternoon tea! Terre à Terre were wonderful accommodating my food intolerances and gave me a different, but equally considered, delicious plate for the savoury tier. They also helped us out with some preferences for the sweet options and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back next time we have something to celebrate! The afternoon tea menu is a fantastic way to try lots of incredible treats from across the menu and was worth every penny. An extra thank you to Vanessa for helping me with the booking + dietary requirements.

Absolutely outstanding food and excellent service. We shared the Aubergine Dengaku starter, followed by the Vegan Rosti and Barberry Biryani. Each dish was beautifully presented and was of Michelin star quality. Dirk who looked after us throughout the evening was just fantastic and great at recommending dishes and wine. It seems as though the restaurant has many regulars as they all seemed to know Dirk 😊.This restaurant is worth considering a move to Brighton for! It truly was that fantastic. We will definitely visit next time we are down from London.

Stunning food! I really enjoyed it!! I had the mushroom dish as a main and it was delicious with lots of complementary flavours but also the samphire was fantastic. It's often very woody but this wasn't at all! Perfection! The dessert was really lovely too I liked that there was only a hint of verbena in the brûlée it made it fresh but not like perfume. The berry ice cream something about how chunky it was in texture really made it special. I loved it! If I was in Brighton I'd be here all the time!

We got tapas for two. It could've been better taking one main dish than taking lots of tastes. I expected more fresh and delicious vegetable dishes, but they were kind of heavy and mixing tastes wasn't so good but it was nice to try as a first time.

Amazing food! We took the festive menu option where you have 3 choices for a starter, main and a dessert. Everything we had was really tasty.

Definitely some of the best food in Brighton. I can’t tell you how good this food is, go in there and you won’t be disappointed. It’s just a fabulous vegetarian restaurant. With amazing food.

We had the Terre a Verre tapas menu. The food in this restaurant is always amazing, complex flavours, different textures, beautifully served. The staff are always attentive, helpful and friendly. We come to Brighton especially to eat here and are never disappointed.

What an experience! The food was next level and the staff especially Dirk were brilliant! Wouldn’t have asked for better for a better place to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary! Thank you!

We went to celebrate my daughter's graduation, the food was utterly amazing. The staff were wonderful, they explained what the dishes were and couldn't have been more helpful. Beautifully presented and so tasty, as a meat eater I was amazed how good vegan/vegetarian food could be. Would go again and again! The sharing platter was fantastic.

Despite a mixup with our booking Terre a Terra was still able to accommodate us, even though they were closed. Staff were attentive and food flavoursome. Will be sure to pay another visit when next in Brighton.

We have always loved this place but it is the 1st time we have taken our children 7 and 4. As a family of vegetarians, it was so nice to have so much choice. The children's menu is really good! The adult food was amazing as always. Service was brilliant and the waiter was happy to chat to our little ones as well. My dessert "Brulee vous" was particularly good and such a good flavour combination.

Brilliant vegan food iinspired by fusion of cultures and true innovation. Food was exquisite from starters, mains and desserts. Their special menu was a powerful vegan roast with a rich and dark gravy which tasted a bit like mushroom and miso, but that is only a guess! The waiter was most helpful in gently directing us to this wonderful special. From the main menu we have a taster platter and each dish was amazing. Definitely going back.

The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they took the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. I was particularly grateful for their help in choosing a wine to pair with my meal. The food was simply outstanding. The atmosphere at Terre à Terre is warm and inviting. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Terre à Terre. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and memorable vegetarian dining experience.

Terre á Terre vegetarian dish restaurant at East street in Brighton , just a short walk from the sea . The ambiance and atmosphere were nice, so well discreet and friendly. It was a Sunday evening and plenty of tables to choose. My first impression was the unpleasant smell of some kind of food or oily odour which was explained by waiter that it was a dish ordered by a customer sitting close to our table ! For me it seems to be a poor quality ventilation system. As it was my first visit, I’ve decided to order “ Terre á Tapas” as we could taste a verity of different vegetarian dishes. It could only be served for minimum of two persons to share. We decided to have Kombuchas drinks with our meals . It was very speedy food service as in a matter of 10-15 minutes we had our drinks and soon after our meal platter arrived, which made us to feel like it was a ready platter prepared in-advanced! (taking into consideration that 11 different types of Tapas were made and placed on that platter .) !! 🤷🏻 The food was well presented and delicious but I wish they could serve them in a larger or more than one plate as it was practically impossible to eat them without mixing some of those ingredients with each other. I could carefully take each and one of Tapas from the platter into my plate but sadly they kept be mixed . it wasn’t a pleasant experience for a person like me with trained palate and sensitive taste buds. For dessert we decided to share a ginger nosey Parkin as we both enjoy ginger and love ice-cream but instead we received something else which happens to be “ brûlée vus “ ! And guess what ? It was exquisite and delicious . We decided not to say anything but enjoy the pudding 😊. On all, I love the place , food and ambiance But I wish they serve their food fresh , use larger plate or more than one plate for so many dishes , as well better ventilation. I’ll be definitely back soon as I like the experimental vegetarian food combination as they were great . Please follow me on Instagram! You can find me at @doctorfoodielondon

Loved the food, life long vegetarian and thought I’d seen the depth and breadth of what there was to offer but meal was genuinely delicious and out of my expectations. The service as well was amazing, the gentleman who seated us and served us at the end was beyond belief. Couldn’t have thanked him enough or been more amazed at the level of service we received. Would definitely love to come back ASAP!
