Amazing experience. It is situated on a lively street. With a host of vegan and vegetarian options, it’s usually crowded with people looking for their amazing meals. Do visit and try out their desserts :)

✓ All Vegetarian with Vegan Options The restaurant is downstairs, the one on the upper level is more of a deli and grab & go shop. I was here for breakfast and had the Vegan Pancakes [£6.95] with blueberries, bananas & maple syrup. It was more of the thick American style pancakes, but not that fluffy. Still I enjoyed it and it’s really delicious, topped with a nice amount of bananas and blueberries, served with a side of maple syrup. It was a satisfying plate of pancakes for the price. I also had the Vegan Carrot Cake [£4.50] served with a side of plant milk which was really good. It was moist, tender and fluffy with just the right level of sweetness even with the frosting. It was jam packed with flavour and rich with plenty of carrots, nuts and such. The staff were friendly. They could be for more helpful (especially as a first timer) in introducing how the restaurant works and what it has to offer (i.e. menu, food at the counter etc.). The restaurant is eclectic and cosy with a homey décor. There place is spacious too with plenty of tables for even big groups. Fresh and delicious vegetarian and vegan food and even cakes that are done well at affordable prices, I can see why they are so popular and doing well (with several locations)!

Lovely restaurant with amazing staff and awesome food. It’s been a while that we’ve found a place that was just perfect in all regards. Spoilt for choices we went with the Thai salad bowl which was absolutely delicious. Service was professional and very personable. Drinks were delicious and the live music just set the tone of everything wonderful. Highly recommend this place!

Henderson’s Vegan - Café/Deli and Restaurant Downstairs There are alot of great offeringa here but the execution is not quite on par when compared with the many new Vegan offering available in Scotland. The drink selection is great and the presentation is superb. The menu selection is very diverse and it is a well balanced menu. The food on offer is unfortunately not as well executed, with a lot of reheated dishes or premade items. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the way they are reheated is not always great and I found the Pakoras particularly undercooked and flavours confused. The setting is outstanding and apt of attention and time has gone into Making Henderson’s fee warm and inviting. Not a bad choice for breakfast or lunch.

Literally the best meal I've had from a vegan restaurant! The wine was super and I took my non vegan friend. He said it was the best meal he had in a long time. Was so worried we weren't going to get a table, as we didn't book. They managed to find a table for us. I was blown away. The cheese cake should be permanently on the menu. The thai butternut squash soup was so different and wonderfully flavoured. The haggis was really good, but I would have loved more of the whiskey sauce as it was delicious. Brilliant experience and dining. I would recommend booking, as a lot of people were turned away while we were there

Had an amazing vegan breakfast this morning! So tasty 😋 would definitely come back when we are next time in Edinburgh. Would recommend this place as a much to visit for breakfast at least to vegetarians and vegans. Great alternative to Pret-a-mange

I was so excited going to Hendersons. There are such great reviews and everything seemed like this must be it! Unfortunately, for me it was not. I was quite dissatisfied with the food experience. The place is lovely, it has a cosy feeling to it and in the evenings it is surely getting busy. The atmosphere can be described by a cellar level restaurant, so if you like sunshine, there's not much of it, but then again Edinburgh, is there anywhere? The service is lovely and they do explain the dishes. Now the food. I took the spicy vegan crepe. I was expecting something really artsy! But it was quite boring. There is a dish with potatoes, spinach and a little nutty sauce. One could easily make this at home in 20 minutes. The taste seemed to be a little unbalanced. The spices were not correct for my taste. I have to be honest I did not try other dishes and there are surely many that taste well. But being honest here. Hope it is appreciated.

I can't say enough about the food here but I'll try... We had as much as we could because it was so incredibly good! From taste to presentation I was really impressed. Service was great and and we didn't wait to sit. (But a reservation is highly recommended because the space is small - we got lucky!) Food came at a good pace and we fully enjoyed it all. I'm going to miss this place - would definitely go back!

This is a very nice, top vegan restaurant that will not dissapoint! We ate full vegan & vegetarian breakfast that lasted us for many hours, we even skipped lunch that day, and in the evening we shared nut rolls as a starter, and had Mediterranean pasta and Summer bowl for mains. The pasta was on a spicy side, so if you don't tolerate it- ask for it without chilli 👌. The restaurant staff is friendly and helpful, the interior design is simple yet modern and atmospheric. In the evenings they have live music, such a bonus!

Arrived as part of a group for 1.15pm, everyone else served but didn't receive my order. At 2.30pm a member of staff said these things happen and they'd been very busy. They offered to bring my order in "five minutes" but we're on the verge if leaving. Totally unacceptable.

A little bistro like restaurant serving vegan fare with a Scottish flare. The haggis was quite yummy while the pasta was a bit disappointing. I found it a bit dry and boring. We asked for bread and were given two slices from a store bought loaf cut diagonally, was not to the standard of a restaurant, especially since we were charged for it.

Really rude staff and not very welcoming. Had to leave, as we were waiting ages to be served in a really empty cafe. Such a shame.

We went for an early dinner tonight and tried the jackfruit stew and the playful platter - both tasty and well portioned, yet our meal was over shadowed by a chilly spot we were sitting at right next to an old fashioned window that would definitely need replacement.

Great vegetarian lunch had here for our family...not a huge gluten free choice but tasty delicious options for most of us. Only give 4 stars as a little expensive given portions.

Well I dont want to be unkind about a veggie place so will just be honest. Restaurant prices but cafe grill food and vibe. Place looked like a messy cafe, woman quite scruffy and a bit abrupt. Toilets pretty yuk. We had veggie burger and all super greasy, chips were skinnys but so thin seemed like no potato and couldn't eat them with cutlery as crunchy and just broke under your fork, had to eat with hands. Curry stew which was tasty so given extra star. Daughters had pasta thing which we thought was ok but didnt eat all as not the best. Now to the bad bit... omg the place was so smokey with frying it hurt my eyes. We had dressed up to go out for the evening as going onto drinks and party after and we completely stank ! My daughter had a new coat and almost ruined by the stench of smokey cooking fat, took a month of airing as dry clean only, I had to go outside halfway through meal to sooth my eyes and get a breath. The waitress asked if we wanted dessert menu, no way was I staying a second longer, I couldn't get the bill quick enough to get out to clean air. We stank so bad it spoilt our night out. Got to friends party and felt embarrassed we smelt so foul. Door was open at the back of 'cafe' and to toilets so staff aware, Just sort out your extraction !!! Greasy spoon cafe at more than classy restaurant prices. Would never go again or recommend. Sorry. Also, if I compare the service, quality, price and taste to my local restaurants Fellinis and Zefferellis in Ambleside, Lake District your place sucks in every way. Go try sometime as food is exemplary and exquisite and cheaper with luxury decor and surroundings and in the middle of a national park. This place was very disappointing... and smokey as hell.

The foods very good and usually the service is good too however I brought my mum here and it wasn't a good experience. We visited around 11am Saturday 28/12. She explained to our waiter who I think was the manager that she was gluten free vegan and couldn't eat onion, garlic and mushroom. The manager begrungingly went back to speak to the chef and said there won't be any of that in the her scrambled tofu. She then got given her food and there was onion through out her tofu. We then addressed the situation with the manager and he went back to the chef where they had a very loud argument that everyone could hear. There was nothing the chef would do to cater to her needs. I had already gotten my food at this point so I had to finish it quickly so we could find somewhere she could eat. It was disappointing because I love Hendersons and my mum is visiting from Australia and it was dissapoitning for me and her.

Food is really good. I tried the Buffalo cauliflower soup and the pasta. The pasta was my favorite. It was delicious and prices very reasonable. The only downside is the speed of service. It was super slow. I may be just used to the ultra speedy service in the USA. Overall, great place to dine in!!

Fab little lunch spot I like to visit whenever I’m in Edinburgh! Last time I tried the vegan haggis wrap (made from beans) , the spanakopita, and a donut! They’ve got lovely drinks and coffee as well! Nice staff too. It can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but overall I recommend!

Loved it. Menu is intelligent and so much more than a veggie burger and some curry. Service is top notch and the decor is casual but not sloppy. This is a must do for all veggies in Edinburgh.

An Edinburgh institution. Serving vegetarian food for long before it was fashionable. Still lovely mixtures of hot and cold food. Come here rather that a chain restaurant and get a genuine taste of Edinburgh.

Hendersons catered for our wedding last Saturday and we can honestly say it was one of the best parts of our wedding. The food was incredible and Janet and Matteo who came on the day were just wonderful. They were so relaxed and went out of their way to help with things that they didn't even need to do. Our conversations with Janet and Barry beforehand were great - really relaxed and helpful communication. I would really recommend them as caterers for any event. The best food and service. It was also so reasonably priced and amazing value. Thank you again! Ross and Olivia.

I went at lunch and accidentally ordered two persons worth of food. I ate it all, but regretted it. Would deffo have the playful platter again. It's not small though. Very quick service. Tasty vegan food.

Lots of room in this massive but cosy basement cafe. You order from a cafeteria style counter which makes things nice and quick. I went in at lunch time on a weekday and there were lots of tables free which is nice- I had tried to go to Holy Cow but as it’s so tiny is was full. Vegan haggis, neeps and gravy was good, the haggis wasn’t quite what I was expecting but tasty all the same. I then had vegan pumpkin cheesecake which was really yummy. Price was a little bit high but not too bad.

I have been here a few times, and I really like it. The food is great and the service is spot on - helpful but not obtrusive. The vegan haggis was delicious

Really lovely meal here, hearty, healthy and delicious. Such a great warm welcome, and they’re clearly environmentally conscious. A great place to eat with friends where there are loads of veggie and vegan options, but also plenty food that omnivores will love too. I’ll be back soon!

Absolutely wonderful place. Was very surprised at amazing vegetarian food. Quality was way beyond my expectation. Veg haggis was wonderful. Very nicely prepared beet salad. Never tasted such stuff anywhere. The Coffee martini was out of the world. Very lively music performed by a live band. A very courteous and excellent service by the staff. Would highly recommend a visit to this place.

Lovely Staff! AMAZING food! Visited here on Good Friday. We did not book, it was already busy with only 2 available tables. There was only 2 of us so we managed to get a seat. The menu is absolutely delicious, a great selection of things but all with carefully selected ingredients to give a contemporary twist to each dish. So nice to look at a menu and be able to choose from everything on the list!! After finally deciding, I had a celeriac gnocchi with date whiskey cream, fresh figs and raw cacao - which was really unusual but tasty. my boyfriend had a roasted cauliflower and buffalo soup - sounds simple but this was actually incredible! We then shared a main of pasta and the vegan cashew pesto tasted amazing. I just also wanted to mention how helpful Lucia, our waitress was, she was the only one on the floor that night and managed to keep everyone happy and food/drinks came swiftly. Highly recommend to everyone! Maybe book if more than 2? THANK YOU :D

As a vegetarian,I love having a selection on a menu. When the whole menu is vegetarian, I'm in heaven. Delicious aubergine rolls, and sweet potato fries! Wish I had more time in Edinburgh to go back again! Nice live music!

One of our best alternative dining experience in Edinburgh. The foods have unique flavors. Our plates were full and our tummies happy. Jazz playing on Friday night. Super friendly service, really attentive. She first introduced today’s soup and then clearly explained our questions on the menu. Everything sounds and looks good!

Great ambience and staff. Ordered the Buddha bowl, was too salty and not upto the mark for the price. Can be avoided

  • 2/5 Laura G. 4 years ago on Google
Disappointing There was hardly any fresh veg in the Buddha bowl and the flavours were not very nice. The rice was hot but the rest of the dish was ice cold. The sliders were greasy and again no fresh vegetables just deep fried food. For dessert I had the chocolate cake and it was overly dry. The cake didn't come with any vegan cream or vegan ice cream. Not sure what went wrong, I've been to the other Henderson's before and the food there was nice. Won't be going back
