I nice little gem... Service was very good not overpowering. But there in the background. Good choice of wines and beer. Starters were very tasty and a good selection.. I felt the duck terainwas slightly to cold which made the duck skin leaving a fatty lineing in the mouth.. But the scallops and the salmon were amazing and so fresh... The skate wing for main was beautiful and cooked so we'll. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection and my wife enjoyed it.. The lamb was cooked well and very tasty. Most probably the best lamb rack I have had in a long time... Deserts the strawberry crumble creme brulee was stunning best desert in years.... The almond frangipane lovely.. White chocolate pana cotta very well made smooth and melt in the mouth... The orange custard tart we unfortunately found very disappointing. We coujd not taste any orange to the tart and also the overpowering taste and smell of eggs was not nice. We did mention this to the waiting staff. And they went and spoke with the chef. And came back and offered us a replacement allternitive desert. Very impressed. My only other comment is that when we arrived my daughter had requested a quiet part of the restaurant in booking the table as I have health issues with my hearing. And when we arrived we had a lovely table nice and quiet. But unfortunately as we were starting are starters a table of 13_15 people were put next to us.. They were obviously celebrateing something and we're in high spirits and very noisy as they were all talking at once. Which was off putting. And affected me communicating with my family. But to some up good disabled access and good parking with lovely clean toilets. I woukd recommend this lovely restaurant.....

Absolutely amazing! We came here for a birthday dinner originally. One year later we decided to do our post wedding sit down 3 course meal here where we hired the back of the restaurant for our post wedding celebrations. Everything was perfect, everyone commented on how good the food was. Excellent service and food, could not have been happier. Special thank you to Danielle and her team. We will be sure to be back very soon or probably on our 1st wedding anniversary. Love Claudia & James x

Service was exceptional. Drinks selection was great. I would have liked some more veggie options though and some simple butter with the bread selection at the start rather than the onion butter. Flavours in what I ordered were overpowering and a little too salty for my taste this time round.

I love this place. Everything about it is just right. Once again i enjoyed fantastic food with amazing flavours. And great service from the two young ladies in front of house. A great birthday treat for myself. You must try the lamb!

Loved it, went with family for a Sunday roast. They are all meat eaters and I’m vegan but felt like I had just as good of a meal. Soup was rich and delicious, nut roast wasn’t dry at all and was full of flavour, I even had a Yorkshire pudding which is rare when you ask for vegan, the dessert was roasted pineapple with coconut crème. Yum, will definitely return.

Our 2 children took us to the Magic Mushroom for our joint 60th birthday on 25/02. From the moment we entered, the service was spot on, very attentive without being overbearing. Subtle and tasteful decor. The food was exceptional, good size plates of delicious food and tasty drinks, including a good vegan menu. Being Billericay residents for almost 40 years, we can’t quite work out why we’ve never been before, however during Covid we had a ‘takeaway’, for a birthday meal, which was brilliant, so we’re really glad that we’ve finally sampled this gem and we will be returning. Will recommend.

A little cramped. So much so that wheelchair users have to go outside to get to the toilets. The food was very good, although, when they say the sirloin is best served pink, they were wrong. I like the idea, but it was rather chewy. Prices are gigh, buy you're paying for high class food. Too much attention payed to the presentation for my style. Portion sizes were reasonable. Menu choice was also reasonable. Staff were very polite and friendly.

I have lived in Chelmsford for many years and this was my first time visiting the Magic Mushroom and what an experience it was ! The food and ambiance was absolutely amazing, each dish was perfectly cooked and the flavour was excellent. We had an area booked out for the evening with its own bar and it was really nice and intimate which was perfect for the occasion. The service was was superb, really friendly staff always smiling and happy to chat to you. Looking forward to coming back here again in the future ! 😀

Absolutely beautiful, never been before but I think it could quite possibly be my new favourite restaurant. The staff were great, just the right amount of attention, my mum had some random questions about vegan wine , which they answered quickly, clearly knew about wines! The food was unreal, there was 7 of us and I don't think we left a crumb between us and we all had 3 courses! My sister in law is allergic to nuts and rather fussy, she just wanted chicken and chips, she said it was the best she ever had! Can't wait to go again!

My first visit, wife's 3rd. I was impressed with set meal price (Friday night) £32.50 (3course)as the quality of food was excellent, service was good, my one quibble was price of wine, for what was a very average Rioja, it's noticeable that there are no wine prices on website, probably wise, overall a very good evening, and clearly popular as by 8pm it was very busy, would definitely concider using again.

What a find, The Magic Mushroom had it all. Stopped for a romantic lunch date. We had the Devon Crab and King Scallops to start, followed by the Raman Panko Egg and Guinea Fowl for main from the A La Carte menu. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted devine. The service was exceptional. The front of house team managed that beautiful balance of attentive and engaging, whilst still allowing our privacy to enjoy our meal. We also enjoyed their cocktails and virgin cocktails (with me being nominated driver). Overall an exceptional experience, we will be returning. Bravo 'The Magic Mushroom'

My fiance and I tried this restaurant for the first time today, the food was beautiful. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were fantastic. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend the desserts!

5 star prices with 3 star food. Everything was either over or under cooked. Good food but no where near good enough. £165 for 3 courses and 2 drinks for 2 people.

Real nice atmosphere and great staff was a lovely touch of a real pink orchard in a glass. For starters had warm bread and butter with the secret house sauce. For the mains, We had the most gorgeous beef fillet it just melted in the mouth like butter. This went well with mushroom ragu and blue cheese and tender stem almond brocoli for the sides If you broke down the meal, a lot of very nice flavours were very well put together BIG WELLDONE TO THE CHEF Brilliant meal overall. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to dine here. Try the beef fillet. If you're a steak lover medium rare, you can't order this any other way

Food was absolutely fantastic, although service was a little slow. Would have had a issue if they had insisted on us vacating the table after 2 hours!

Went for a wedding reception. It's a very nice venue. Food was good And so were the drinks. I'll point out that our menu was a set menu of three choices. So I can't comment on what it would be like eating normally. But I'd say judging by what we had,it should be good.

Great Sunday lunch. Ambience was superb with a good crowd. We love the beef slices, cooked to perfection the way we liked it.

Attended a birthday meal in private room for 23 guests. Service and food second to none. We had chosen quite a wide variety of starters, mains and deserts between us and everyone commented about on how excellent their meal was. Ryan and team looked after us really well - drinks and food beautifully presented, service really efficient and staff were all very polite, smiling and helpful. Well done and thank you 👍😀

Okay so went here on a Sunday after reading mostly positive reviews the staff are amazing and extremely friendly can't do enough for you. I'm probably being very critical but the prawn cocktail was like being at the beefeater in the 80s served in a wine glass very bog standard roast beef was good but quite small with two thin slices and 3 potatoes which were okay but not the best I had sticky toffee pudding for desert which was more like a sponge than a pudding. Very pleasant but not the best you can get better Sunday meals for half the price in essex and you also have no choice but to have 3 courses I enjoyed my day but would probably not go back.

The bread and butter is delicious. Atmosphere always relaxed but comfortable. Real fine dining at its best.
