As
other
reviewers
have
pointed
out,
there
is
a
definite
issue
with
attention
to
detail
at
Northcote.
It's
been
a
dream
of
mine
for
over
10
years
to
visit,
however
we
both
left
disappointed.
It's
sad
to
say
but
I
wouldn't
recommend
visiting.
The
manor
itself
is
stunning
and
we
were
blessed
with
the
weather,
allowing
us
to
enjoy
the
late
afternoon
sun
on
the
terrace,
which
was
lovely.
My
husband
had
pre-booked
a
glass
of
champagne
for
our
anniversary,
which
was
promptly
served,
however
he
did
leave
a
note
on
the
booking
that
it
was
a
special
occasion
and
we
were
surprised
not
to
receive
even
a
'happy
anniversary'
from
any
of
the
team
at
any
point
during
our
visit.
I
asked
for
an
ashtray
(as
I
could
see
others
smoking
outside)
and
the
sommelier
as
their
wine
list
is
vast,
however
15
minutes
later
neither
had
arrived
and
I
asked
again.
When
the
sommelier
arrived
he
didn't
introduce
himself
or
even
seem
that
interested.
Throughout
the
conversation
he
came
across
condescending,
disinterested
and
dispassionate,
not
even
discussing
the
characteristics
of
the
wines
we
were
considering
to
help
us
choose.
We
had
to
really
push
to
get
any
sort
of
information
out
of
him.
We
were
taken
to
a
table,
which
was
located
next
to
the
waiter
station,
however
this
wasn't
an
issue
as
they
were
quiet,
however
as
the
evening
progressed
the
table
did
get
quite
dark
as
there
wasn't
much
lighting
around
our
table,
compared
to
others.
The
service
was
particularly
good,
especially
from
the
younger
members
of
the
team
and
it
was
great
to
see
lots
of
young
staff
starting
their
careers.
The
mushroom
and
salmon
canapes
were
unbelievably
good
and
was
a
great
start
to
the
meal.
The
asparagus
3
ways
starter
was,
hands
down,
the
highlight
of
the
evening
and
a
dish
I
won't
soon
forget.
The
second
course
of
roasted
quail
was
nice
and
was
presented
beautifully.
The
scallop
starter
was
also
nice,
however
my
scallop
had
a
strange
stringy
texture,
which
was
a
little
unusual.
My
husband
doesn't
like
shellfish
and
they
accommodated
a
change
for
the
Kohlrabi
which
was
exceptional.
We
were
really
impressed
how
they
had
shaped
the
kohlrabi
to
look
identical
to
the
scallop.
The
main
course
was
disappointing
as
my
beef
oozed
blood
all
over
my
plate
and
didn't
appear
well
rested.
Luckily
I'm
not
squeamish
and
I
enjoy
rare
steak,
however
it
had
teh
undesirable
effect
of
turning
the
jus
into
water.
I
did
advise
the
waiter
when
the
plates
were
cleared
and
was
just
told
"I'll
advise
the
kitchen".
The
dessert,
however,
was
the
worst
course
of
the
evening.
I
had
asked
to
swap
to
the
rhubarb
souffle
as
I
love
rhubarb
and
a
good
souffle.
I
was
disappointed
not
to
find
any
compote,
compressed,
sous
vide
rhubarb
in
the
base,
although
the
menu
didn't
promise
it
so
that
may
have
been
unreasonable
expectations
on
my
part.
The
other
issue
with
this
dish
was
that
it
was
quite
badly
under
mixed,
with
lots
of
white
bits
running
through
the
mix
(see
images).
This
was
also
mentioned
to
the
restaurant
manager.
The
toilet
facilities
started
off
nice,
however
halfway
through
the
meal
I
noticed
that
the
bin
in
the
gents
was
overflowing
and
discretely
advised
the
sommelier,
however
when
I
visited
the
gents
an
hour
later
the
bin
was
still
overflowing.
It
doesn't
appear
that
toilet
checks
were
being
completed.
Seeing
some
spare
toilet
rolls
placed
on
the
cistern
seemed
a
little
incongruous
for
a
venue
of
this
calibre.
There
are
plenty
of
ways
of
providing
extra
toilet
roll
but
hiding
it
better
than
just
leaving
it
out
as
you
would
find
in
your
local
pub.
My
husband
surprised
me
with
a
kitchen
tour,
which
was
a
great
experience
and
I'm
incredibly
grateful
to
the
restaurant
manager
and
head
chef
for
accommodating
the
request.
Overall,
it
was
an
OK
experience
and
we
didn't
leave
hungry,
however
the
attention
to
detail
definitely
lacked
and
this
stood
out
against
some
of
the
other
Michelin
starred
restaurants
we've
visited.
Cumulative
small
mistakes
and
not
even
wishing
us
a
happy
anniversary
detracted
from
what
should
have
been
a
bucket
list
experience.
