It was the first time my kids went to the Zoo and so it was fun. The animals were not that much but they got the chance to see monkeys, crocodiles, birds, ostrich, wild pigs Pythons and many others. Our staff who took us round was amazing and had time to answer all the numerous questions from my kids. Please don't forget your covid-19 protocols thanks.

Looking for a fun, super affordable way to spend an hour or 2 with kids; I would recommend the Accra zoo. Itโ€™s about 2gh for kids and 5ghc for adults I believe. I know for sure it wasnโ€™t anything above 10gh. The tour takes about an hour Please take note; the actual zoo is far from the entrance gate, if you happen to go with an uber, donโ€™t let them leave you at that first gate. I learnt this the hard way (cries at the memory) Now to the zoo! Please manage your expectation. Itโ€™s a small research zoo. It has about 15 or more animals. All I know is almost half the cast of lion king was there ๐Ÿคฃ There are lions, crocodiles, turtles, deers, antelopes, monkeys, birds, ducks, ostrich, crazy looking bird I forgot itโ€™s name, snakes, porcupine, hedgehog, hyenas, did I mention snakes? Lol The guides are nice and adequately informed! Go, relax, hold a snake, get chased by a lion and come back home with Facebook pictures (I dunno why but it doesnโ€™t feel like Instagram pictures, feels like the kind you post of fb ๐Ÿ˜‚) As always I have a video on my YouTube! There are several species of the wildlife at the zoo. I was excited to see the Lion. Holding a snake was the highlight of my visit for me. The care taker who took us around was really friendly. Their entrance fee is moderate

Accra Zoo has very earthly setup. The roads are however not something to write home about. We went on a weekend when there were some church related activities in the Achimota forest. However, the venue is exhilarating. People who want to have a native feel with the sight seeing will enjoy the zoo setup. I feel a lot more can be done to enhance the experience at the Zoo. I was particularly enthused about the animals they have and my kids overall enjoyed the experience. We will definitely book another trip.

The zoo's staff are very knowledgeable, truly have a bond with the animals for years and love the unique African animals. This zoo is a wildlife gold mine waiting to happen for tourism given it's close proximity to Accra.

When I heard there was a zoo in Accra, I knew I had to add it to my list as a travel writer! Upon arrival, you will see a green booth where you will purchase your tickets (C20 for foreigners and C10 for Ghanaians) but if you are not coming with your own transportation do not let your driver leave! Keep your ride going. The actual zoo entrance is a bit far from where you buy your tickets and you will need a ride there unless you are willing to walk for about 20-40 minutes. It even took quite a while by car. Our guide seemed less than enthusiastic about having to show us around. There are more animals than I thought but they are hard to see through the very small fences (concerning for the animals). Some of the animals also did not look to be in the best condition. Overall, my visit to the zoo was very underwhelming and I would not go again! I love new experiences so I would not say it was a waste of time, but not a great tourism point. My full review of the zoo can be found on my blog with more pictures! Christina Jane Travel Lifestyle Blogger + Writer @beingchristinajane beingchristinajane.com

Located inside the Achimota Forest... Besides the 5-year old lions, there are lots of animals available to see... Entrance to the Zoo is accessible from around the Achimota police station area...or exit the N1 on top of the overheard thus Achimota by-pass. They close at 4 although consideration is giving for those already on tours that's why they have stated 4:30 as closing time. Entrance fees vary for Ghanaians and Foreigners, students and non-students, etc.

We saw different kinds of animals there and is a very interesting place but a lot have to been done on the road leading to the place. When it rains it always bad so I will plead with the authorities to work on that.

This Accra Zoo is the Best zoo yet!(in my opinion). Like I usually say, I visit zoos because of the kids but I really dislike seeing animals in cages. Always so forlorn. This zoo reminds me of the zoo In Abeokuta (the One near obasanjo library)where they made an effort to provide some form of replica natural habitat for some of the animals. This is my best zoo yet just because itโ€™s Set in a forest and even though behind bars and have to be fed, at least they still get nature around them. Itโ€™s off the road and was quite a bumpy journey getting there but We enjoyed it! Ps: no side attraction when we visited. See the animals and thatโ€™s it. Sitting area would be nice ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

As much as I think they are doing their best, there is more room for improvement..patronage was good though but the place gives me a sad feeling .. aside the monkeys, the other animals are quite lonely and sad.a major improvement is needed to make the lives of the animals in captivity worthwhileโ€ฆ

It's a nice place to hold your events as it have wide space. This is where the Winneba folks hold their annual masquerade festival they call 'fancy dress'. A lot of university students hold their association sporting activities here as well. It's a lovely place for open air events.

Accra Zoo is an interesting place. The tour guides know their stuff and they have patience. The Zoo management should include things like premium payment to watch feeding the animals such as the lion. They can also introduce a golf cart for hiring to aid the elderly and children. Well done

I had a really good time at the Accra Zoo got to see and learn about so many different animals, their life span, what they eat and their names in twi. When you first enter you go to the ticketing office to purchase a ticket which costs 12 cedis per person if youโ€™re a Ghanaian national not sure what the price would be if youโ€™re international. The drive up to the zoo from the Achimota forest is 5-10 minutes. When you get to the zoo thereโ€™s parking available and you are directed to show your ticket and they take your personal details to note down. You are then assigned a tour guide straight away or asked to be seated till one is available. Dixon our tour guide was really nice and gave us an informative tour. The walk to see all the animals available is quite lengthy so do wear some comfortable shoes. I loved the experience and would highly recommend it would have been a 5/5 just that they didnโ€™t have one of my favourite animal elephant which he mentioned may be coming for Christmas.

Four stars for the nice staff there especially mr George We went on a rainy day but he took the time t take us around With prices like 10c for Ghanaians and 20c for foreigner , I think the entrance fees are fair Despit not having a lot of animals, the staff we found there manage to get us around We did enjoy the place , a long way on walk from the main gate to the zoo, we did not get a taxi for there , but we enjoyed the walked , almost 2km according to the green signs on the way We enjoyed counting them The environment is pleasant but with time and better management and a good hype , the place will offer more and more ๐Ÿ˜€ Mr George and his love for the place is priceless, merci encore ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

The government needs to invest to boost the tourist attractions. More animals are needed. Staffs need to be equipped. The security need to be strengthened. The surroundings need to be spacious and cleared.

  • 4/5 Lawrence F. 3 years ago on Google
This is an inspiring facility with lovely staff who care very much for the animals in their care. What it needs is urgent investment, from someone, somewhere to allow this team to refurbish, expand and secure their facilities and also to invest in more endangered Ghanaian and other West African fauna and flora for the benefit particularly of urban dwellers. Achimota Forest is a really valuable green space in Greater Accra that should be conserved at all costs.

I visited the Accra zoo today Saturday 20th February 2021 with my family. The fence housing the lions appear too thin. It should be reinforced. Most of the animals with the exception of the birds did not appear lively. Some are single. The authorities should work at increasing the population of the animals on exhibition.

It's a small quite, less developed forest zoo but has varieties range of animals spices like Monkeys, Antelopes, Crocodile, Birds, Lion, Ostrich, Snakes and more which you get to see, learn, feed and even touch to feel some of them. Its serves as a source of education and a great time fun experience especially when visited with friends.

The lady at the reception was very helpful and polite. The zoo it self was okay my son loved it and I enjoyed the forest. The guide was really nice answered all the questions and was very patient. It would have been very nice to have a little picnic area so you could have a drink and watch your child run around I would visit again x

Not many animals. Just a few exotic ones too. But it's the only zoo in Accra so what can you say. Better than nothing

The animals that used to be there some years ago are no longer there... The place however, is still fun to visit

I visited this place to see the animals currently there. On my last visit, I saw a cobra and a hyena. This time, I was told both animals are dead and have not been replaced. This is a place with great tourist/excursion potential, but it seems that not much attention is being given to maintain it. The staff are very friendly and to an extent informed about the animals. They make sure you adhere to all safety measures in place. Let's help to promote Accra Zoo.

It is a good place to see and develop activities with our children that are not done daily and to learn about the animals they have.

Tour guides and managers take their work seriously. Although the place is in bad shape they do their best to get things done as it should be. The government of Ghana should invest more resources to get the place more interesting and more money will be generated from the place.

There isnโ€™t much to sayโ€ฆI wasnโ€™t really optimistic about this zoo but it was certainly underwhelming. The guide was nice but seemed like she didnโ€™t really explain much about the animals besides their names and whether they had kids. I wouldnโ€™t advice going to this zoo with kids under 5. Thereโ€™s a lot of walking involved when going to visit the lions

Lots of animals to observe. The guide was very friendly and informed. The lion was the highlight of the day.

I get to see the two major characters Blu and Nigel in the animated movie Rio and they were actually cool with each other tho, in the same cage ๐Ÿ˜€ The part that really blew my mind was seeing a Lion and it dominancy, the lioness and the cubs. The Atmosphere of the zoo brought an entire jungle vibes to me.
