Beautiful zoo! And it is free! They charge for a few of the attractions but they are geared more for smaller kids (Dino, train, petting stingray.) The bird house was one of my favorite exhibits. We also loved the penguin exhibit and how close we were able to get to them. It felt like we entered their habitat, but without disturbing them. Oh, and the Grizzlies! Really, a great zoo.

Love this zoo! Been twice now (I don’t live in St. Louis) and it is such a lovely place to visit. So many happy animals and each species has a well thought out, tailor-made enclosure. An all around great day out for both kids and adults - and admission is free! I particularly enjoyed the primates and the butterflies. The butterflies fly around a beautiful flower filled area and there are literally hundreds of them. You have to check you don’t have one on you when you leave.

Very nice public zoo with free admission. There are a few pay as you go attractions once inside but you can enjoy every other exhibit at no charge. Recently went to the Wildlight event and it was a fantastic holiday display to take in while on the walking paths.

I visited this zoo twice in one week, on Friday and then Sunday. This was my first time coming here and actually my first time ever coming to a zoo as an adult. At first it was discouraging because we didn’t see animals at the first few exhibits but then we were mind blown. The experience was amazing and we had so much fun. Came all the way from out of state and it was definitely worth it.

The zoo is free, but the parking is $15. We started our day with a behind the scenes giraffe tour. I posted a tour review under the link for the giraffes. We also watched a mini sea lion show. It was a mini show because they are practicing for the full length shows that will start in a couple of weeks. The zoo is kept clean, and the people who work there seems to really love their jobs. Most of them were very happy to share so much information with us about the animals. Many of the buildings are historical, with a few that were built for the World’s Fair. The exhibits had information for each animal. I appreciate the numerous signs asking patrons to not bother/harass the animals, and a phone number to allow anyone who witnesses concerning behavior to report it. I would love to see most of the animals in bigger enclosures. Even if that meant they had fewer varieties of animals. I did appreciate that most of the exhibits had a wide variety of live plants and trees in them. Our funnel cake was delicious. The gift shop staff was very nice. We loved our visit!

What a great zoo! It was truly a beautiful set up and maintained zoo with plenty to do! The admission was free for the entire family which is a huge plus, and there are a few paid attractions in the zoo which were worth the money, but entirely optional. The food was tasty and prices fairly. The animals looked to be well taken care of and had nice big enclosures. The zoo was huge and had much more to do and see than we were expecting coming from a smaller city with a much smaller zoo. Spent 4 hours here and honestly could have spent even more time to see and do everything. If you enjoy zoos at all this is absolutely a must visit if you're in the area!

This is a wonderful activity for the whole family. We went in November and it was chilly, but we still got to see a lot of animals. It is not the biggest zoo I have been to but it is compact and offers so much to discover. The penguin area was our favorite. You could get really up close to the animals, which our daughter loved. I especially love how they decorated the park for Christmas. It must be beautiful in the afternoon with the lights turned on. Highly recommend this zoo. To make it a completely free activity, I would recommend to park up on the street if available and bring your own food and drinks.

This Zoo is rated one of the best in the whole US and the best part is that it is free! Love the variety of exotic animals and I especially enjoyed the Aquarium ! A must see when you're in St. Louis Missouri The zoo was a nice interlude on our recent family vacation. We spent one morning walking through and it was really enjoyable. It was raining a little but that wasn't a detractor. Some of the animals weren't out and about but that was ok too. It was a relaxing and enjoyable morning. The zoo is free and a great part of the St. Louis landscape. We really enjoyed our experience.

Nice zoo. Wasn’t crowded at all. Very hot out would recommend bringing personal fan or coming on a cool day. Gift shop items were reasonably priced. Also if you choose to touch the sting rays be aware of the fact that there Is no soap to wash your hands with. Everything was good except for the fact that you still need to pay for refills with the souvenir cup otherwise great experience.

This zoo is absolutely the best! We enjoyed every bit of the zoo. 95% of the animals were active and we enjoyed the view to the fullest. It’s a great place for family outing with the kids. There are several aquariums including the hippos, Mississippi River fishes, penguins, and sea lions. Each of the aquariums were great. Please plan to spend at least 4-5 hours in the zoo, otherwise it won’t be possible to watch all the animals.

To me the zoo didn't feel like a zoo. It kinda just felt like a part of Forest Park. The animals look happy and well cared for and the conservation efforts not only locally but across the world is mentioned a lot....it was quite educational and left learning some new things. My favorite was the butterfly house and the penguin exhibits. Entry was free...but with covid you have to set up a reservation online. I've never been to a free zoo honestly. The food in the zoo is actually tasty...there are many stands where you can get ice cream and dipping dots. The is this stand called pineapple paradise where you fresh smoothie is served inside the pineapple. The cored pineapple slices are included with your smoothie to eat.

The Zoo is a great experience. No need for a plan, just show up and enjoy. Even if you just roam around to clear your head, or be there with the kids to have fun. Keep the little ones close by because its easy to get separated. In the winter months the scene is a bit different and worth the exploration. The zoo is clean and well maintained. The animal enclosures look clean. Probably a good idea to split the visit in two days if possible because it is a lot to see. Hop on the train and enjoy a different side. Kids love the train.

So much to see. Animals are active in the morning. Get your steps in. Amazing offerings for any zoo and entry is free. Signage is educational. Great place to learn! Parking is paid, but if you arrive early you can park on the street just outside of parking lot.

My family really enjoyed the St. Louis zoo! While you must make a free reservation to get in the zoo, the extra exhibits like petting stingrays and riding the train, etc call for tickets to get in. We purchased the adventure passes when we got in for 14.95 each and we could visit this exhibit is many times as we wanted during the day. You can bring your own food as long as you don't bring glass. The animals were amazing when we went. We will definitely do this again

The zoo is free. If you get there early enough, you can park on the street and not have to pay for parking. Staff is friendly and informative. It was just my husband and me, but that didn't stop us from enjoying all the animals. We enjoyed watching the penguins swimming and playing when we first got there. We were one of the first ones there and enjoyed most of the zoo quietly observing. There were lots of families as we were leaving. Recommend if you have little ones to ride the train, it encompasses the whole zoo. We laughed at the kids waving and having a great time riding it.

As a St Louis resident, the STL zoo is my number one favorite place to hang out in the city. Whether it’s busy or slow, hot & humid or cold & rainy this is always the place I am always drawn too. If you are just visiting the city the zoo needs to be on your list of places to visit. It has 2 entrances and both are easily accessible. It’s free to enter and there is so much to see. Every person who works here is friendly, knowledgeable and works to create a great experience. The facilities are always clean and there are so many vending choices that there is rarely a wait. You can also always bring your own picnic in and eat in the grassy field areas in the middle of the park. It’s a nice quiet space with picnic tables and lots of grass to get away with your group for a bit and eat or just chill for a bit. If it’s super hot or cold you can always count on enjoying the bug house. It’s indoors and it’s wonderful for kids. Then at the end you can walk through the temp controlled butterfly dome which is just amazing. Seriously do not hesitate to visit this place, it’s a true gem of the city.

Loved our time there! Even though a lot of the animals were MIA this time of year and it was under 40 degrees out, but the ones that were out and about were so fun to watch. Parking was $15, but free admission! That’s amazing that such an awesome zoo is free to the public.

One of the best Zoo I’ve ever been! Looks like animals are being taking care of, very clean and they look good. It’s totally for free! We only paid the train ride and I will recommend it if you wanna see the whole place! It’s huge! Staff is super friendly and nice! 100% recommended if you are in St Louis!

I really enjoy the St. Louis zoo! It’s free, with some areas that do charge a fee such as the children’s area. Due to covid they’re currently requiring tickets for entry, free tickets but they need the number of people entering I guess. There was a line to enter when we got there but they were just scanning tickets so it took maybe 5 minutes waiting in line. I also believe there is a parking fee. It can take hours to see the entire zoo so give yourself time if you want to see everything. The animal exhibits seem well maintained and the animals seem healthy. I would recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

So fun and diverse, can't believe it's free!! There's some great handmade items in the gift shop. Signage can be tough to understand but overall walkable and well laid out. Really enjoyed the insect area and birds. Also the monkey outdoor area with tunnels is unique and fun to watch! Great for all ages

We had so much fun yesterday at the zoo! Admission is free, you just need to select a time beforehand. The staff was really nice and helpful! The zoo had a great variety in animals and the coolest penguin exhibit we’d ever seen- there was a sign that said not to pet the penguins but physically, you totally could’ve- SO cool! They also have lactation stations for moms of little ones which is amazing to see! Our only disappointment was that almost all the food stands were closed, but even so, such a great experience!

What a great time! This was for my sons class field trip. The animals were all out, not hiding in the back. I love that people have to make reservations to be there. I think that helps so it is not so crowded. So much better not walking into people every time you turn around. Was able to get some great pics of the animals. Enjoy!!

I love the St. Louis Zoo! It’s really the perfect size where you can see everything in one visit but there is still a lot to see. The Penguin exhibit is one of the nicest I’ve ever see and definitely my favorite of the exhibits and it was the only place besides food vendors and gift shops that we ever ran into lines even when there tickets were sold out. If you’re going during busy times- weekends, holidays, spring break, summer break I’d definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. It also took us about 45 minutes to park on a nice day so keep that in mind parking when you’re planning your day at the zoo.

It's amazing that you get such a positive experience in a zoo that doesn't charge an entry fee. Great exhibits, great variety of animals and well maintained! Did not spot any animals that showed signs of sickness or malnourishment. Parking was a little bit of a nightmare so I highly recommend getting there early. Also the place is massive, definitely not something you'd try and complete in an hour or so unless you're speed walking through the entire facility.

This is one of the best zoo in the US. This place is huge. It’s FREE. Only charge $15/ vehicle for parking. It’s a lot better than Washington DC Smithsonian zoo. Each habitat was well maintained. Animals were healthy and happy. Be sure to bring good walking shoes. We spent about 3.5 hours here. And walked about 4 miles. We wanted to see all of them. And for us the highlight was definitely penguins exhibit. We got to see them so close. This is by far my favorite zoo.

I think the booking system has improved the flow of being able to see the indoor creatures easily. The sea lion show you isn't in but I think the ability to have space and see the animals more than makes up for it. Stop off at high grade coffee which opened as covid hit for an excellent coffee and pastries (near the station) . The shop in the zoo is open and you can buy little ones and adults animal masks for $5 a big selection.

The best zoo I have been to! I'm from Chicago and we have two zoos in the area and they are horrible in comparison to this! Definitely don't miss the penguins they are close enough to touch in an open display [ but I wouldn't do that!! ]

You'd never know this zoo was free. The animals had interactive and stimulating items in their enclosures. The grounds are relatively flat with a decent amount of shade. There's a super fun climbing structure to take a break from looking at animals. Several spots indoors can help you cool off or warm up depending on the season

The St Louis Zoo is always so much fun!! My grandson loved the dinosaur area!!! 🦕 We rode the train, which is a lot of fun seeing the zoo from that perspective, but as a short person (5'3"), my legs were very cramped. The zoo was clean & the staff was working hard to keep things sanitized. Masks are required inside.

Coming from a place where the zoo is $30/person, I thought it was amazing that this zoo is free. There's so much to walk around and see here. I would like to see more shade areas or more indoor areas to cool off since most of the zoo seems to be outside under the sun. The penguin exhibit was absolutely AMAZING! I've never seen such a thing designed like that. It was our favorite part of the zoo. I also enjoyed going through the gift shop and seeing all the crafts from around the world. The prices are fair and it's wonderful knowing the money goes towards conservation efforts. Elephants are my absolute favorite animal so of course I had to buy so many elephant items at the zoo. Also, if you're a smashed penny collector, this is the place for you!

I love the STL Zoo. It never disappoints. The weather was in the 60’s. A lot of active animals. We did miss the grizzly bears and hippos. Neither were available to the public. The polars bear was amazing!

We love this zoo so much that we travel 3 hours to get here. Exhibits are set up to each animal's natural habitat which encourages activity . I have been to several zoos in major cities in different states and the activity level of the animals pales in comparison. Kangaroos were hoping, monkeys were jumping and chasing each other, snakes were slithering(yuck), grizzly bears were digging for grubs and the polar bear was having a blast in his water. I also really love the fact that reservations are needed to enter the zoo because the crowd size is minimal and therefore you can actually get up close to the action!

A fantastic zoo with so much to see and do. And it’s FREE. My family and I went on a cool, sunny day and even though some areas were closed, there was still so much to see - penguins, polar bears, lemurs, butterflies. It was fantastic! We spent about 4 hours there and probably only experienced a third of what the St. Louis has to offer. The zoo is very well laid out with plenty of space including green space for kids to run around. There are several food areas offering tasty sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Also, there is a full-service Starbucks. ☕️ We will definitely visit the St. Louis zoo again (probably when it’s a bit warmer 😜)

This zoo was really good. We had some of the best animal experiences we have ever had with the penguins and polar bear. We went on a weekday and the weather was cold. It was not busy and the animals were active. We would happily return or recommend to others.

It always amazes me that such a phenomenally good zoo is free to the public! The newer areas are designed with a lot of thought, and perfectly maintained. My favorite place for a picnic is the historic area, with the picnic tables right in the middle of the beautifully landscaped shady valley, lined on both sides by the old zoo buildings. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable, with interesting exhibits. It's a VERY large, sprawling place. Don't be surprised if you can't see it all in just one visit!

While you do have to pay to park and for some of the activities, the zoo itself has free admission. We were able to buy the pass for the activities like the train, sting rays, carousel at a discount since we are members of our local zoo. We absolutely loved the penguin area, it was a great way to cool off in the hot summer. The Sea lion show as incredible as well. Get there early if you want a good seat, it was full even during the middle of the week. My kids loved Sting Rays, so we went to that area first. You do need to pay extra to touch them and feed them. Understandably, they make you wash your arm up to your elbow before entering. I only mention that fact since I forgot to bring in our sunscreen to the zoo and this washes off. There was so much to see, were were there for over 5 hours and still did not see everything. Of course, we did go back to the penguins two times since we loved it so much. We felt that the prices at the snack shops were reasonable. We really loved our time at this zoo, and learned a lot.

This is my best zoo experience ever. We had a blast. The habitats are well done, the landscaping in the entire zoo is beautiful. They have gift shops, bathrooms, and refreshments spaced out really well. All the employees were great. The sea lion show was worth the trip all on its own, but all the animals were awesome. Paid $15 for parking, but the zoo is free. A few attractions like the sea lion show and stingrays you have to pay for. Pay online and save a few bucks. It was around $16 each for the wrist band that gets you into anything paid, or you can pay for it at each place inside the zoo.

Fun zoo! Lots of exhibits closed and you didn't know it til you were right there. We wouldn't have gone certain ways if we'd known multiple enclosures in a row were closed. IE: primate house was empty but we kept looking in the areas for a full hallway. It advertises as free but then there's an expense for the train and for certain areas. I was really disappointed I couldn't go to our son's fav animals without paying extra. We thought free was free. But the exhibits that had animals were great and the flowers were beautiful. Loved the bird selection-- much better than most zoos. Clean facilities, too. Decently priced items available in the gift shop.

The most beautiful and fun part of the St. Louis zoo are the gorgeous native wildflowers in bloom! I loved to see interesting pollinators at work. Great idea to start replacing the stinky fuel trains with electric trains. I prefer the train ride connection around the elephant house as opposed to the stinky train rides through dark tunnels. We were expecting to see more sights from the train and we can't recommend the added expense! The penguin and puffin indoor exhibits were a fantastic way to cool off from the heat and sun. They are so amazingly cute! I loved walking through the butterfly enclosure for close encounters with a nice variety of butterflies. The grizzly bears were fascinating to see eating what looked like frozen blocks of food. They showed their intelligence using various strategies to break apart the food blocks. I was deeply sad to witness the tiny enclosure for the polar bear and wish it a happy and free life in a better, more wild place. I hope that it can be given more room to move, swim and be free. 🐻‍❄️ This zoo would get a higher rating from me if it weren't for how upsetting it is to see our cramped polar bear friend trapped and sad.

Fantastic zoo!!! If you plan on seeing the whole thing, I would highly suggest planning for a whole day there as the zoo is huge!!! The dinosaurs are worth the money, super cool, and the kids loved it! The train is nice but you're not allowed to bring any stroller on which can be difficult when you have small children. This zoo is so much fun, and is great exercise!

We loved going to the Zoo! Growing up in San Diego we always loved the San Diego Zoo so it was a fun experience and see another large Zoo. Free admission is amazing! Buying the additional attractions is a fun plus for those who want a few extra things to do. The wrist bands made it easy to walk into the extra attractions without having to keep track of tickets. It was clean and well kept. If you are a member of the Zoo the attraction tickets are 50% off. If you are a member of any local Zoo they will honor the 50% off as long as you show the active membership. I didn't know that until I walked up to the window to purchase our tickets, so that was a bonus! We went during the Halloween season and the decorations were awesome! We ate lunch at the Lakeside Cafe. The lines looked long but they were pumping food out quickly. The standard kid friendly options are available and some adult options as well. They did offer alcohol, limited selection but it was offered at a reasonable price actually. The food wasn't crazy priced either, but what you would expect from any fast food place in 2023. Getting around was easy even when it got congested with people. It was a cooler day when we went so the animals were active and out playing. Overall it was a great experience all day and we will definitely make our way back to spend more time looking at all the animals.

What can I say. You can't beat free. But for real this zoo was amazing. I wish I had more time to visit all the exhibits. The park was clean and wasn't overcrowded when I went. They have a huge selection of animals to look at. Plenty of spots to sit down and eat and of course gift shops . I'll definitely want to come back if I visit Saint Louis again. It's a great spot for family trip.

Its a beautiful zoo, great way to spend about 3 hours. Its free!!! And beautifully maintained. Just register online for you entry time which is super easy. On slow days you could also probably walk up and they'll sign you up on the spot. The train ride is not free but my kiddo loved it. Also the road side parking is free. May have a short walk to the entry point but saves you about 15 dollars. I think this zoo ranks up their with the one in Colorado Springs. Absolutely a great place the take the family

A really great zoo that is well kept. New construction is currently going on for the monkey. Covid has closed down a lot of the vendors but there is food and drinks available throughout the park. As you can see from the photos there are a lot of animals to see. Updates are happening in some of the enclosures but remember to wear good walking shoes.

Native New Yorker— from Queens. Been to Bronx (too big to navigate with or without kids), Manhattan (parking a nightmare as expected but overall nice), a Queens (mediocre not thoughtfully designed). Prospect park zoo is our favorite! Small enough but thoughtfully designed which made the one way route for covid easy for them. Spent an hour there with two kids 4 and 2 years old. Few tips for COVID. the website seemed to say you must have advance online tickets but if not at capacity they were still selling tickets at the gate. The gate being the prospect park entrance (children’s corner sign— no sign mentioning/confirming this was the new temporary entrance) not the Flatbush ave one (I thought someone would be at the main entrance to guide but nope and some people couldn’t find it for a long time). Secondly, people mentioned the indoor spaces were closed. Now as of Aug 26th I saw at least two indoor spaces open but there was a 10 people capacity so a line was formed outside for the hall of animals and another one I can’t remember. And lastly till sept 7th all essential workers are FREE to all zoos as a thank you— so grateful for this! Use the code hero2020!

Just as fun as I remember it being as a kid but smaller than I remember. Its a lot of fun for the very young (1 to 6 or 7) but older kids and teens may get bored. The peacocks are friendly and rome free in the pavilion.

Its very good place. The Prospect Park Zoo is a 12-acre (4.9 ha) zoo located off Flatbush Avenue on the eastern side of Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York City. As of 2016, the zoo houses 864 animals representing about 176 species, and as of 2007, it averages 300,000 visitors annually. The Prospect Park Zoo is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

I love this little zoo. It has enough to see and do to feel substantial without being overwhelming. It's also beautiful. I've taken my kids several times a year for the past 8 years and went today for the first time since Covid. Their safety protocols were well established and we had a great time. The barn area and Discovery Trail are great for kids. If you go, look for the pack of roaming peacocks that seem to own the place!

The St. Louis Zoo is amazing. It's free to see and you can park along the streets and walk a little, for free or pay $10 for parking which gets you right in front of the doors. They have a nice variety of habitats and animals. I was so excited when they brought in the polar bear years ago. The zoo is clean, and have little gift shops when you exit every exhibit. Tons of food and drink carts spread out around the zoo. As well as dining options. (Most of these are closed due to the pandemic, and usually have maps but they were gone too). Still enjoy every single time I come. We bought the reusable cups, which you can bring back to your visits and pay just the refill charge. You can also spend $10 or $15 for an arm band that gets you on the train, and merry-go-round, and some simulators. The animals are so cute and they have plenty of space. I'd always recommend this zoo.

Very nice zoo, many good exhibits. Unfortunately we were unable to see some of the animals as it is winter. The zoo itself is free and if you get there early you can park on the streets around the zoo, otherwise parking is $10 in the lot. Staff was friendly and helpful. Favorite part was the penguin exhibit, you are allowed to get very close and they are just too cute!

There was a lot of stuff that was closed off. It was in the single digits outside and we didn't see more than 20 people there the whole time. We were standing completely alone, outside, facing the corner at one exhibit and our masks were below our nose, a worker came and peered around us just to tell us we needed to pull up our masks. Only reason it has two stars instead of one is because of the monkey exhibit.

What a great zoo. I'd put this right with the top zoos we have been to. It has every animal you could possibly hope to see and all it cost us was $15 to park. The zoo is very large, but is built where you never feel like you are walking long ways to see the next exhibit. The other great part is that each exhibit tended to have at least 2-3 different spots to see the animals from, so if you couldn't see anything from one angle, there's a good chance you could from other angles. Wife and I came here on a parents only trip, but will definitely make the 6 hour trip back to St. Louis again to bring the kids.

The best 2 days of my life in a long time so much too do and so many different species of animals they even have a wide variety of insects and snakes and lizards. The best part it is free to get in just order in advance on line and getting the adventure pass was definitely well worth the $15 that is how you get to pet the stingrays, see the amazing sea lion show, ride the cool train around the park, and see the animatronic dinosaur exhibit. I'm a grown man and I actually shed a tear when it was time to leave. My family and I are definitely going back next year it was flipping awesome! Oh and you can pay to park or park for free I would arrive early before zoo opens and park by the north entrance

One of the best maintained zoos in USA. Let me share some tips here: 1. Book your visit online (for FREE) a day or two before. Two slots are available - morning and afternoon. 2. If you can’t get parking outside which is very likely, try park inside the zoo parking near south gate by $15. 3. Buy hop-n-hop rail tickets for $8, it is useful if you’ve a plan for an entire day. 4. Visit each and every enclosure if you want your kids to know more about the nature and wildlife. Each of them has one or more bulletin boards with detailed information including natural habitat, food, life expectancy, behavior and conservation status about the animal.

Incredibly enjoyable experience. The zoo was well designed and laid out. The exhibits were clean and it showed that care was had in the caring of the animals. A few exhibits were closed, but allowances must be made. It is a zoo with live animals that require constant maintenance. We were there during Zootoberfest. So there were tasty beers to be had while perambulating around the grounds.

Amazing place and it's free. The dinoraurus exhibit was more than I imagined it would be. The day was filled with one great exhibit after another. My two and a half year old grandson loved the carousel and train rides as well as the animals. There weren't too many people so the wait times were minimal. It's a must for families if you're in the area.

As always, the zoo is amazing! Best one in the nation. Always surprised that it's free. They are going to great lengths to keep visitors and staff safe during the pandemic. I needed to rent a scooter, and the staff person who attended me was immensely kind and helpful. We had a great time, first visit since COVID and we felt very safe.

Still can’t believe such a cute zoo is free of admission. I have never been so close to penguins, they are just so adorable, which totally made my day. The zoo is overall super clean with super nice pavilions scattered around the zoo. Food and drinks prices at the food are surprising cheap too, maybe I’m just used to the east coast price. And strongly recommend for the Zoo Boo event there happening around Halloween. I think I have found my favorite zoo!

I’m from Nashville and it’s the BEST zoo we’ve been too and we’ve been to the one in Nashville, Birmingham and Ohio. All the workers were so nice and eager to give you information and show you really cool stuff. We went to the zoo 2 times in a row because it was so big and was so much fun. My favorite part is you can honestly tell they care for the animals. Through out the day you constantly see them cleaning the habitats and feeding them. I love it!

Always a great zoo to visit. Though one of the only free Zoo's in the country, there are a few pay to enter exhibits. If you go during a nice day, you're bound to see a lot of active animals. You can tell the pride that they take at this zoo.

Beautiful, affordable, pay only for parking and some inside attractions were a few dollars extra. They just started fall festival season so the decorations were very nice and scenic. Easy to navigate once inside the park, although getting there was not as easy. One wrong turn and we ended up downtown, but even that was scenic. Overall great place for fun.

Such a fun zoo. The biggest we've been to! So much to see, it is an all day experience. We did the bracelets to see the shows and do the extras and ride the train. The train ride is so neat. We saw almost everything last time we went. There's plenty of food/snack areas, there's decent bathrooms all over, strollers were a little pricey to rent and parking is pricey if you can find a free spot. We loved it here though. Everyone is friendly and ready to help, the kids had a blast. We've been twice and has a blast each time💕 just be sure to stay hydrated and cool off in the shade!!

Free! I’d highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area. Get there early- they open at 8:00- and park on the street at the north entrance, for free. The grizzly bears were fun to watch, but unfortunately we never saw the red panda. Polar bear came out on our way back. Animals seem well taken care of, as we saw a lot of maintenance in cages.

Wow, I wish we had a zoo like this in my town. Admission is free. So I was surprised to find out that the food was clean and tasty enough. It was a hot day, but the walkways were very lovely, with plenty of shade from the trees. The animals outside were sleeping because it was hot. It was nice to see the butterflies. If you are thirsty in hot weather, you can ask for water at any restaurant, and they will very kindly give it to you for free. I guess they don't want visitors to fall on a hot day. There are so many people that you can't park even if you are a regular person. I recommend going early in the morning.

We loved our visit to this zoo. Free admission. Wonderful animal exhibits. Loved the penguins. Plan ahead, lots of walking, wear comfortable clothes, shoes, bring water bottle, sunscreen, snacks, etc. Parking is $15. We opted for the train ride twds end of our day about $8 per adult all day access. Next time we will buy train tickets at beginning of visit to get around the zoo to not tire out from walking, too soon on the visit. We would love to come back!

Great free zoo. We did purchase adventure bands to cover the cost of some activities. I highly recommend feeding the stingrays. The sea lion show is a must see. The sea lion area is really a cool place. Polar bear was not out as it was 90 degrees out. He has an awesome place to live. His pool water is kept at 40 degrees and he has his own ice make. Another cool area is the penguin area. The artic penguins are kept at 45 degrees

This zoo is top tier. Please walk with water, snacks and lunch. Totally worth the time and effort. If you’re strapped for funds, take public transport. Otherwise, get there earlier and park for $15 per vehicle. We toured the zoo and visited sections most desired. You can save on walking by buying a train ticket for the day and zip through the park section (wonderful added feature). My kids loved every moment. Definitely, won’t disappoint.

Free zoo! Visited on Labor Day weekend (Saturday at 11 AM). It took a long time to get parking and it was hard to find spots (there is a fee to park). A lot of people parked across the bridge and walked. It was very hot out so many of the animals were sleeping. We were able to bring in reusable water bottles and a few snacks. Amazing Zoo! The Butterfly House is a Must See Attraction and the Train is Great for the Kids. Everyone had fun and it is a great experience. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because although it is a "free" Zoo you still have to pay for parking and once you are in there are many exhibits that require you to pay to see them so in the end you still end up paying.

This is a beautiful zoo located in Forrest Park! It was very clean and had wide, accessible paths. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We went on a Monday at opening. It is free to get in and view your favorite animals!! I would check the website for the things that cost money. There is a mini train that encircles the property that does have a fee, for instance. Parking at the site is $15. My husband and I parked at a free lot, near the art museum, that was a 5 minute walk away! Loved this place!

Great zoo & it's free! You will pay for parking though but at $10 it's still a bargain. Up close & personal with many animals. We were here in January & weather was quite mild 40-45 or so. I imagine in Spring or Fall it would be perfect!

I have been here many times. Zoo is well kept and clean. They have good displays. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Employees definitely put in the work to keep this zoo nice. Parking is a little difficult at times. There are a few parking lots that cost money; however, the zoo is free to get in so you can’t complain. Otherwise parking is on the streets. If you want to avoid crowds I would recommend early morning or weekdays.

I love this zoo so much! They always have educators posted around the zoo who are knowledgeable about the animals in their areas and have posts with each exhibit that gives general information about each animal found within it. The zoo is free to enter and is fairly priced on the majority of extra attractions and even their gift ship items aren't terribly expensive, in comparison with the average American zoo. My only big gripe is that while they say they're accessible, that's not entirely true. If you have an electric wheelchair or scooter, absolutely. They're great. But if you are a manual wheelchair user the zoo can be a nightmare to traverse. The hills are abundant and steep, making for hard inclines and dangerous declines. If you're a manual wheelchair user without a companion to push you or help you up the hill, or you're not an ambulatory wheelchair user and cannot assist the chair up the hills or brake with your feet, I highly recommend renting an electric scooter or waiting until you have a companion to assist you in your visit. To end on a high note, all the facilities were clean and the layout of the zoo was simple to follow. Great place for the whole family, just be extra aware of possible hazards if you're disabled.

The Zoo is my favorite place to practice taking photos in all of St. Louis. There is nothing like getting that perfect shot with the animal looking directly at your camera. People really connect more with photos when they can look a person, or in this case, an animal in the eyes. Plus it is a lot less awkward than taking candid photos of strangers on the street.

Boo at the zoo was great! We had a blast. Adult beverages available. Limited food options; hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy, ECT. Music and neat lights make the experience very cool. No animals are out. The bug and reptile exhibits are open though. The carousel and train were accessible as well. It was busy. Definitely want to visit after sundown for the best experience. No creepy folks jump out- So very family friendly, and also good for a neat date night. 50/50 of kids and adults wearing costumes. Reservations needed. Cost reasonable. Masks required (as of date posted).

I'm from out of town and wanted to visit the zoo while in town for the weekend. It just so happened we looked it up before going and we found out you have to make reservations almost 7 days prior too going in order to visit this awsome and ( free ) zoo.Even with covid going on there was a lot to cover at this zoo. We had to wear mask everywhere but I did notice there were some mask free zones around the park for fresh air, this isn't a small zoo and you can easily spend a day walking around and enjoying the exhibits, a couple must see's are the penguins and monkeys. I noticed the monkey area is under construction but looks like it's gonna be really nice once done.

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals under their care. The animals are Soo much fun to see and the zoo is constantly upgrading the enclosures for the animals benefit which benefits those who go to see them as the animals are in much better shape physically and on an emotional level they seem to be happy with their surroundings or at least as far as it appears anyway. Mask are required when visiting and there is plenty of hand sanitizer throughout the park.

LOVE this zoo! This visit we fed the stingrays and it was by far one of the coolest things I have ever done. Generally felt like their guidelines for COVID were reasonable, and people generally adhered to these.

St. Louis Zoo is amazing this time of year, since there are far fewer people there when it's cold. The staff are doing a great job of keeping everyone safe and healthy, with social distancing in place and lots of cleaning. Remember to reserve your free tickets online, and arrive during your designated time slot. Some attractions are closed due to the pandemic, but you can still have a lot of fun and get in lots of walking.

  • 5/5 Mystique 3 years ago on Google
Very fun place. Really big so you're in for quite a walk. The exhibits were beyond beautiful and amazing. The gift shop was also pretty cool. Great for family fun!

This place is a must see if you are visiting St. Louis and of you live here and never been shame on you. Lots of things to do here and definitely a lot of animals to visit. Staff if helpful and polite and for as big as this place is it in very good shape and they keep it clean. I recommend this place for All ages go and have fun.

Spent the day during the holidays was really nice, not too packed during the day. Had lots of opportunities to see the critters and enjoy everything. Came back that evening for the Zoo’s wild lights which were really nice. Even though most of the animals are sleeping the penguins were still up and having fun. Lots of opportunities to take photos and was busier at night than during the day. That is until the power went out! Oh well, was nice while it lasted!

  • 5/5 Alder L. 3 years ago on Google
This is the best zoo! And it's free!! The animals look so happy here, and have beautiful, well maintained habitats. A lot is closed or off-limits because of covid, but it's still worth a visit. There were hardly any people around, and some of the animals were so close. It was also decorated for their Halloween event Boo at the Zoo, which made it even more fun.

  • 5/5 Erik H. 3 years ago on Google
Wonderful zoo! Many different animals on display there. Elephants. Bears. Lots of penguins. Lounging hippos. Many active monkeys. Giraffes. And many big cats, including a circling leopard.

Well-designed zoo to visit and learn about these beautiful animals. Remember to get your free ticket on the Zoo’s website before your visit. Most food stands were closed during our visit, but the indoor restaurants were open.

Really nice little zoo in the middle of Brooklyn. My first time there and we had a nice time. There was only a few other people there so it was almost as if we had the place to ourselves. Bring your own food/drink if you would like, as their choices are extremely limited. I love the old buildings and history as well.

  • 4/5 Amber M. 3 years ago on Google
A great place for a walk with children, a lot of animals all clean and well-groomed, but the truth is the walk will be short the zoo is small.

  • 5/5 J N. 3 years ago on Google
Not a very big zoo, but a decent variety of animals. They have a red panda and two pallas’s cats which I haven’t seen in an American zoo before. Some of the buildings are closed because they’re not big enough to distance in. The buildings that are opened are capacity-controlled in addition to the zoo itself requiring timed-entry tickets. The lines to get in the buildings moved quickly so not a bother and it was nice that the whole zoo wasn’t packed. There’s a barnyard area where kids can feed the animals.

  • 5/5 Ahmed N. 3 years ago on Google
Amazing place for kids, they love it 🥰

  • 4/5 Shiane G. 3 years ago on Google
If you go with your child, as most do then it's five stars because kids are fascinated with almost anything, which is great. But you even then you could see everything, even if you stop to feed the farm animals for a while in about 10 or 15min. Definitely a one time thing, because it doesn't leave a feeling of wanting to come back at least not with my son. He was more wanting to go back for the gift shop than the zoo itself. That being said, it's a nice thing to do with your family.

It's not big. But it's just the right size to see everything in a long afternoon visit. There are in door and out door exhibits that are well laid out. On a crisp late fall weekday it was just the thing to get our little guy out of the house. Almost all the animals were out and it was not crowded at all. Their covid precautions made us feel very safe and welcomed.

I went to the St. Louis Zoo with my mom and sister for my sister´s birthday. Due to COVID, we had to make reservations for a four hour period to go. I, personally, liked that there was not as many people in the zoo. It was much easier to get around and see everything in a timely manner. My only complaint is that the food we purchased there was overpriced, however that is probably due to the free admission to get in. I strongly suggest a day trip here if you are looking for something fun to do with family or friends.

One of the best zoos I've been to and I can't believe it was completely free! During COVID, admission is limited so you have to reserve tickets online, but the process is very easy and we even did it in front of the zoo itself right before entering. Many sections are one-way and concession stands are closed, but we honestly preferred it that way so we could focus on seeing all the animals!

The St Louis zoo is truly one of the treasures of St. Louis! It is a world-class zoological facility and it is FREE to enter! I feel that there are good variety of animals available to see there, and I like how the exhibits are set up. The Rivers Edge is especially awesome but the seal and sea lion exhibit in the bear habitats are also awesome. The zoo also has an amazing antique carousel and the zoo line railroad which is a favorite of every kid who rides the rails. A St. Louis must do activity for sure!

WOW is the word, as I've not been to the zoo in years. It's truly amazing what a treasure the St. Louis Zoo is to the area and it's free. I was recently there to take pictures and shoot a video of the Penguins, plus some of the other critters which like the cold. I know a lot of people have kept away from the zoo due to the pandemic or don't have the time, so I've put up a Youtube video called Zootime under my name with the penguins. It's a fun watch for the kids and anyone else. I'd definitely recommend a visit to the St. Louis Zoo and I'll be back for more fun this summer.

  • 4/5 Angelica E. 3 years ago on Google
Wild Lights was absolutely beautiful. Maybe it's the pandemic making it a little less enjoyable with things not being open, or maybe it's just how it always is, idk. It's a Zoo, so I wish there were more nocturnal animals available for viewing. Other than that, super super fun.

All of the interactive things around the zoo were covered it wrap so you couldn't use them, masks are required for anyone 9+ but most kids under 9 were wearing them. Every 15 minutes or so an announcement would come over the Zoo telling you about how safety is their number one concern. To me the person saying it kind of made it sound like we were in an airport of a foreign country. Or some type of dystopian book, but in the end I rate 10 out of 10!

Can't beat free! Need to get there early as it's a pain to get in and park in a timely manner but seems to have plenty of parking. Not too long after opening I think they still have animals in the back but if it patient enough and willing to double back you can see the animals again. My first time seeing a polar bear!

Very beautiful place. Seen all the animals we could possibly see having a service animal. The experience once inside was good but the experience at the entrance now thats why I rated it low I had a bit of issue getting my service animal in. I was asked repeatedly if she was a service animal and not an emotional support animal even when providing her card that read Serive animal ( why not just call to see if it's legit?) meanwhile my animal remained very calm and still as she kept on talking over and raising her voice causing me to get jittery. I called a month in advance and made reservations online to get in I asked what I needed before I drove all the way from Texas, it's not as if I am a local and can make it up the next day or in a week. Zoo was cool and the best Zoo I'd ever seen.

Beautiful weather again and the zoo has everything covid ready for visits. You do have to get tickets for the penguin exhibit but they are free... It simply allows for less people during the walk through. Restaurant is open, still no children's area but we had a great day. Even when the kids can't smile for photos from masks..the animals do!

  • 5/5 Brandon E. 3 years ago on Google

Can you believe the admission is free? I've been coming to this zoo sine I was a wee lad and it has only gotten better over the years. Over the years the animal exhibits have been expanded and improved thanks to contributions. You can go through and see everything in about a day. It's not the world's most exciting zoo but for Missouri it's really nice. I would recommend stopping by, maybe pick up something from the gift shop. Also the French fries are really good so grab some of those too.

I will start off by saying that there wasn't really money lost due to the fact that you only pay for parking... however, worst zoo I have ever been to. There were hardly any animals and the exhibits were so sad. Unless you are just looking for somewhere to walk around, I would not recommend.

Lots of fun for the family. It's so nice that it's free. I always use the paid parking just to save the long walks. Staff is friendly and will take the time to explain certain animal behaviors and traits with the kids

A gem in the heart of the city... And the United States! The St Louis Zoo is a world class facility, and it's entirely free! Arrived early and beat the crowds! For the first hour, the paid admission for the extras is waived! If it's a perfect day, plan on lots of traffic. A tip though... Enter from lindell boulevard, and then park at the visitor center and walk up to the zoo or take the Forest Park trolley.

  • 4/5 Glenda M. 2 years ago on Google
The St Louis Zoo is always fun & informatve. There are always improvements being made, which give the animals the best enviroments in which to live and procreate. I am a frequent visitor at the Zoo because of the great care & knowledge that the Zoo staff readily share. The restaurants & bathrooms are clean and the mask policy, indoors (mask), outdoors (no mask), is easy to follow.

The new monkey exhibit is pretty amazing. And this zoo has always been pretty phenomenal. Also if you need to rent a motarized scooter for a disabled/elderly person they make sure to do a short course on how it operates for maximum safety and ability to utilize it.

We had a great time. We were able to find parking on the street so free parking free admission. When we got to the gate didn't know we needed to make reservations but luckily there was still availability so we were able to go right in. All the zoo staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Only downside was that I purchased tickets for 3 separate attractions and didn't realize that the pass they offered would have been cheaper and included almost all the attractions.

Best zoo in the US and one of the best in the world. The St. Louis Zoo does an amazing amount of good for both the St. Louis community and the zoological conversation effort worldwide. It's amazing that still to this day, even with all of the economic greed, the STL Zoo remains free and open to all. A truly inspirational and unique place to visit.

There are plenty of places to get drinks and snacks throughout the zoo. It was very hot when we went. I very much appreciated having access to free water fountains and bottle filling stations. There's so many animals. We got to see a hippo push it's nose right up against the glass in front of us. The grizzly bear was surprisingly active too. There's a carousel and train ride. There were some weird bee looking things everywhere. They weren't aggressive. You could literally snack them away and they would come right back for your ice cream. That was very annoying, but not that big a deal.

Beautiful zoo! Very large. Very fun to see all the animals. Be prepared to walk a lot. Two days would be best!

  • 5/5 Katie W. 2 years ago on Google
This zoo was fantastic! And it is free. The animals have wonderful enclosures and the zoo is beautifully landscaped in between enclosures. The animals seem very happy and I believe most animals were able to be viewed in multiple ways. This zoo has all the "major" animals you'd ever want to see and many more! Lions tigers bears, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, all the big cats, and a bird hall, reptile hall and a fantastic penguin exhibit.

  • 5/5 Mark Z. 2 years ago on Google
The St. Louis Zoo is one of the premiere attractions in the city. It is a microcosm of the world's animals in a beautiful, clean, and well-laid-out environment. The animals are all well fed and well cared for, and staff go to exceptional lengths to provide the most fulfilling life they can, away from their native habitat. Zoos are increasingly important as for many species they may be the last habitats and chances for future survival. The zoo hosts educational programs to help students learn about ecosystems and the importance of preserving biodiversity and a healthy planet. So the zoo is not only a wonderful place to see many species from around the world, it is a place to learn mankind's role in their preservation. The zoo is free, enabling every resident and visitor alike the opportunity to enjoy it. Truly a wonderful place.

  • 5/5 Stephen J. 2 years ago on Google
Huge, just huge. Parking was free as it was a weekday and the streets were clear. Fun was had by the kids on the miniature locomotive though my backside didn't love it. We spent hours just in one quarter of the zoo and still ended up walking forever to get to our exit. Plenty of value to be found in the band or season pass for all the attractions.

  • 3/5 Esther K. 2 years ago on Google
The car line was long and the middle lane was closed and the parking lot needs more structure because it is so small. The zoo is free. It cost 15.00 to park and the attractions cost, but I felt everything was reasonably priced. Some of the areas don't make sense and it's quite small, but we enjoyed the dinosaur and insect exhibits.

  • 5/5 Casey P. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo is open and free but you must reserve free tickets ahead of time on their website due to the pandemic. You can select a morning pass (arrive beetween 9am-12pm) or afternoon (arrive between 12pm-5pm). You can arrive anytime during the window you sign up for. And leave whenever you want - so if you arrived in the morning, you could stay until the zoo closes, you wouldn't have to leave by 12pm. I went on a rainy Monday and got to see some animals. I enjoyed walking around.

Best zoo I have ever been too! The paths are thick with vegetation. You can get really close to most of the animals. It was a great experience. Highly recommend! It was free to get in. We didn't purchase any extra attractions. You do have to reserve your spot online before arriving.

  • 5/5 Dans F. 2 years ago on Google
Can't say enough about how awesome this Zoo is. Well laid out and the indoor portions are a work of art. The penguins are always my favorite at a zoo. They did an amazing job getting you in close to them.

  • 5/5 Mike B. 2 years ago on Google
What's not to love?!? Lots of amazing animals and exhibits. The new primate canopy is really cool. Pro tip: Head to the butterfly room attached to the insectarium around 4:30 and watch them release butterflies that have just emerged from their chrysalis. Some experiences require a fee, but admission to the Zoo is free!

  • 5/5 Andrew R. 2 years ago on Google
Such a great zoo! We spend 7 hours and still didn’t complete it all. This zoo is free but the extras do cost $15 extra a person unlimited times. The train stations are the best. You can coordinate your day with using the trains. I say it’s worth the free trip.

  • 4/5 Al G. 2 years ago on Google
One of nice places to visit in St. Louis. The zoo is clean and well cared. The insectarium with live butterflies is very informative and well organized. The highlight of the animals collection is the hippos! Those massive animals are much fun to watch enjoying the deep water swims.

  • 5/5 John F. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo is one of the best parts of St Louis! The kids love it, there are plenty of outdoor and indoor locations to visit. From the newer installations like being able to see the penguins and polar bears, to the classics like the reptile house and birdhouse, all the animals are so fun to see! The food throughout the park is decent and priced right for what you're getting. The 3D movie house, the train, and carousel are just the icing on the cake for a day out with the family.

  • 5/5 Ryan D. 2 years ago on Google
Amazingly free zoo... Well kinda, pay for parking and obvious treats and eats. A thoroughly enjoyable day with much to see, even later in the season. Would come back and recommend.

  • 5/5 Rebecca H. 2 years ago on Google
This was one of the best zoos I've ever been to. I'd rate the quality up there with the Smithsonian. The exhibits were great, the staff were friendly, and the wide variety of animals was awesome. My favorite exhibits were probably the penguins and butterflies. My only disappointment was that the flamingoes were put up for the winter and there wasn't any place to go see them in the winter time..they're my favorite animal so I was bummed but it just means we will have to come back.

  • 5/5 Bryan R. 2 years ago on Google
The St. Louis Zoo is one of the premiere if not the premiere zoo in the United States. This zoo is free to the public almost every day of the year, including the winter. The animals appear to be taken care of very well. The exhibits are clean and provide the animals with what they need. One way to judge whether a zoo takes good care of their animals is to look at the quality of the water. The water in the exhibits is clean.

  • 5/5 Megan S. 2 years ago on Google
My favorite zoo to visit with my family. We bought the package with the theater, carousel, and train this time, and it was definitely a great deal! Lots of animals to see and learn about. The dinosaur exhibit was a big hit for our dinosaur loving kids!

  • 5/5 Judy L. 2 years ago on Google
This is the best zoo I've ever been to. The zoo is free but during covid you need to make an entry reservation on line. It's free. I think they don't want to many people coming in at one time. The parking for cars is $10.00. I thought that is fine since the zoo is free. I went to see the puffins and penguins and they are amazing. There house is the most amazing place, most of the time you see them in zoo's and they are behind a glass wall. Not here there water pond is about five feet tall and filled to the top. I was standing about a foot away from the wall and a penguin swam past and splashed me. It was incredibly exciting. The puffins are set up in a separate room with the same kind of open pond. The whole rest of the zoo was very well set up and all the animals had large clean enclosures. I honestly will make a trip back down to St. Louis to go to this zoo again.

  • 5/5 Yixin S. 2 years ago on Google
Cutie animals! I came with my friend. I could not believe our three adult male had such a lovely day here! Just by looking those beautiful animals resting and eating is worthy coming! If you have kids, don't hesitate where to go to spend the day.

  • 5/5 Lisa C. 2 years ago on Google
Really good zoo. You can use the train to get to the opposite side of the zoo so you can see more in the time you have without wearing out. During COVID-19 you do have to reserve beforehand.

  • 5/5 Ron L. 2 years ago on Google
The St. Louis Zoo is the best Zoo in the USA. It's always been one of the best places to go in St. Louis. I can spend all day walking around, seeing all the animals and the additional attractions. The train ride around the zoo is a great way of seeing the animals and to relax. We really enjoy the Boo at the Zoo in October and the Wild Lights in December.

  • 5/5 mommys g. 2 years ago on Google
I love the zoo! Parking is around $15 but to enter the zoo it's free! They have made some really awesome changes and I recommend taking a whole day to walk around! Masks are required to enter the zoo (but not once your inside) and if you go inside of any of the exhibits, stores or cafés. The zoo is also fully NON smoking now!

  • 5/5 Jarrod W. 2 years ago on Google
First time I've gone to the zoo in months outside the summer. Game changer. It was an even more fantastic experience than usual. Everybody was happier! Patrons, workers and even the animals seemed to be relishing the lack of oppressive heat that comes to the Lou in summer. If you haven't gone "off-season" I highly recommend it.

  • 4/5 Ellie -Nicole- S. 2 years ago on Google
We went 12-21 and a few of the animals were out!! It was a lot of fun. 4 stars only though because there was absolutely nowhere to buy drinks except for the entrance. 3.5 hours without any water bc the fountains were closed due to Corona. My friends got physically sick as a result.

  • 5/5 Rhonda R. 2 years ago on Google
We try to visit zoos in every place we go. St. Louis Zoo ranks with some of the best. It was easy for us to take in a full day and stay busy with walking forever and not seeing anything. Administration is free, but unless you park on the street, you have to pay to park. Attractions inside will cost you if you're into the train, tram, etc. Food and beverage prices are comparable to any zoo I've been to.

  • 5/5 Qhuitnei D. 2 years ago on Google
We loved this zoo. Memphis zoo is really nice but this zoo has much more interactive activities for kids. Very big zoo! The fact that it’s free really puts the cherry on top. Make sure you pack a stroller for kids 5 and under. The walking is massive.

  • 5/5 Clayton S. 1 year ago on Google
Big and a lot to see. We really didn't get to go through everything but we had lots of fun. We got to see the apes get their lucky charms. The bear that took an ice bath. The beautiful butterflies. The primates eat from a white bucket amd throw it at other ones. The train ride was very cramped and hard on the knees. But we prevailed. Definitely would of loved to see the shows. Most of the other animals were just trying to keep cool and I don't mind one little bit. It was hot. Definitely recommend.

  • 5/5 Ryan H. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing times to be had at the St Louis zoo! The diversity of life and the organization of the exhibits are both superb. The free admission is a great way to get visitors to pay for the experiences they want to utilize or enjoy, such as the train or the Dinoroar exhibit, without feeling like going to the zoo is a money pit. The food is surprisingly good and the workers were all kind and helpful, even funny. We will be visiting again because the experience was just so much fun...for so many different reasons.

  • 5/5 Luke S. 1 year ago on Google
The Zoo is always amazing. Even on a hot day (high of 95, and it was 90 while we were there) you get awesome views of animals. The elephants took a bath right in front of my kids. Absolutely fantastic time! We love it here.

  • 5/5 Sarah G. 1 year ago on Google
Our family loves the St. Louis Zoo! There are so many cool exhibits you can see for free, but the newest Primate Trails exhibit is really fun, interactive and a great climbing exercise for kids and adults alike.

  • 5/5 Andrew H. 1 year ago on Google
We really enjoyed our visit here. Our total distance we walked was 6.25 miles. It took about 7 hours to completely make our rounds but it was worth it. The keeper do a very good job keeping the place clean, the couple we spoke to were very nice. The animal exhibits were well maintained and the animals looked healthy. My advice is to bring plenty fluids as zoo drinks are expensive as hell... and wear a hat if your prone to sunburns. We were also able to see most of the animals, and appreciated to climate control exhibits in this heat-wave! Lol We will be back for sure!!

  • 5/5 Samara H. 1 year ago on Google
Had a blast visiting the zoo again. The last time I visited was when I was a young child. It was a very hot day so a lot of the animals were hiding in the shade which made it frustrating. But the animals we did see were worth it! The penguins inside exhibit was a great way to end our zoo trip with the heat! Our girls both got a small stuffed animal that was $12.99 for each.

  • 5/5 Anthony T. 1 year ago on Google
Really nice zoo. Park is laid out nicely with plenty of space for large crowds. Food and drinks are decently priced, and good, food/drink stations are everywhere! Had plenty of shade for the hot summer days, and still saw plenty of animals. Get the adventure wrist bands, they’re worth it!!

  • 5/5 Micah H. 9 months ago on Google
Absolutely amazing, you pay $15 for parking and the whole zoo is free. Great exhibits and the animals seem to enjoy being in the zoo. They don't seem like depressed and sad like some zoo's. I would highly recommend.

  • 5/5 Kelly A. 11 months ago on Google
Beautiful zoo! Entrance to the zoo is free if you just want to walk around and see the animals. You only pay for the attractions you want to experience. I have been coming to this zoo since I was the same age as my kids. It is a fantastic zoo. And, to make it even better, it is free. There are a few things that do cost money. The carousel, train, bird show, and sea lion show. Plus, they have food and souvenirs. You can pay to park in the zoo parking lot, or you can park just up the road for free. It is definitely a great place to go, with or without kids. I definitely recommend a visit here.

  • 5/5 Nikki S. 8 months ago on Google
Amazing! If you love penguins, you have to go to this zoo. It's free to visit, but $15 to park. For $8, you can get a wristband to ride the train all day long. It is great for traveling between sections of the zoo, especially on a hot day.

  • 5/5 ldwalton75 8 months ago on Google
I i absolutely love visiting zoos and the St. Louis Zoo if one of my absolute favorites. First off..... it's FREE to ENTER. From the train, to the carousel, to live shows (seal lion and bird show) which cost a small FEE, to the delicious food and the amazing pineapple drinks this zoo is packed with loads of things to do for ALL ages. If you have an opportunity to visit St Louis make sure to set a time to visit the zoo!!

We always love this zoo! The only downside is trying to find parking!!!! DONT park in the yellow people! We saw a cop writing a ton of tickets on the long walk back to our car!

  • 5/5 Brandon B. 8 months ago on Google
Always a must when in the STL area. Our favorite exhibit was the penguins. Talking to the zookeeper while she cleaned out the enclosure was a wonderful experience, teaching us a lot about penguin life and giving us a chance to see their individual personalities (Pedro the pet penguin!). The tram is a wonderful way to get around the zoo and save little legs (our boys are 5 & 7 yrs old). Go early before it’s too hot, when the animals are more active and are feeding, getting some morning exercise! Also loved the Urban Chestnut beer available, Starbucks for my wife and plentiful options for the boys!

  • 5/5 Michelle L. S. 8 months ago on Google
Beautiful zoo. Free! You can pay $17 for a pass that will allow you to pet the sting rays and ride the train. If you have little ones, the train is a good option to get around the zoo, since it's quite large. You can hop on and hop off at certain areas. They also have stroller parking at the trains. For those who like penguins, they have a great penguin room that lets you really observe them semi-close.

  • 3/5 Amber H. 8 months ago on Google
The zoo was OK. Loved that it was free admission. The parking was very cluttered and the zoo grounds were a disappointment unfortunately. Coming from Cincinnati where we have one of the best kept zoo's I have even been too, makes a tough comparison. Just wish they took more pride in cleaning up their exhibits and clearing the grass and weeds. We must of picked a bad day to go because so many exhibits weren't open and so many animals not out. The butterfly house was my favorite Honesty. It was a cool experience to see. I always love the hippos too. There is a lot of walking so wear good walking shoes.

  • 5/5 Brian K. 7 months ago on Google
Excellent. I was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. It's a great zoo. Period. And it's free, crazy. They have a wide variety of animals and people all over to help you out with questions or directions. There are plenty of food and drink options, alcoholic beverages too. All affordably priced, especially considering it's an attraction type place, and FREE to enter. We loved it. They have snow leopards and an amur tiger, which is a very rare and exotic tiger. Although it looked like a Bengal tiger to me, I trust them.

  • 5/5 Brooke S. 7 months ago on Google
Loved this zoo! We were here about 4 hours and didn’t get to see everything. The penguin exhibit was particularly awesome- the penguins are so close to you and there’s lots of fun ones to see (really cold though). The river walk was awesome- tons of fun animals to see along the way and nice nature/ambiance. Definitely would recommend! It’s free to visit but you do have to pay for parking.

Beautiful. Good vibe. They even serve beer if you want it. Plus, it's free!! Forest park is beautiful. The only reason the zoo doesn't get a full five from me is that it lacks that extra something that distinguishes it from other major zoos.

There is not a single thing I can think of that the St Louis Zoo does not have or offer that would make the experience any better. Admission is free everyday. Food and beverage prices are reasonable if you choose to purchase at the many locations around the zoo. There are employees that stand near the exhibits to answer any questions guests may have, or to provide general education on the animal. Beautiful paved paths. Beautiful scenery, including plants and flowers not native to Missouri. Highly recommended for families and anyone wanting to see some animals.

It was an amazing trip! First of all the zoo is free (parking fee only) Of course it has many shows and projects, but if you go for the first time, it takes at least three or four hours just to browse the animals, and I walked my feet off. The variety of animals is immense, and St Louis zoo is all about getting up close and know much about the animals, so you would be very close to a lot of the critters; I even saw two penguins mating…And saw how baby snakes were hatched from their eggs..amazing! There was very wonderful and happy experience at this zoo, highly recommended and not to be missed!

Zoo is always great. Found a parking spot on the street just outside of the south entrance. Free and closer than paid parking. Halloween decorations were a nice addition. First time going in the afternoon and it seems like we some more of the animals this time. Suggest to ride the train first thing. You get to ride the entire time you're there, so if you get tired of walking, hop on the train. Always a great time.

This is by far one of my favorite zoos in the state. The parking ticket is $15 and entry to zoo is free. It was a nice weather and so I was lucky enough to see a lot of animals out in the open rather than sitting in their den, huts etc. It takes about good 4-5 hours to finish up and tour through entire zoo. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for something to do in STL.

This zoo exceeded my expectations. It’s free to enter and all the exhibits were well maintained and easy to see all the animals. You can pay to ride the little train and to enter dinosaur land that’s more for little kids. Food was priced fair and tasted good.

Absolutely love coming here. The animals are amazing to watch and the staff is always so friendly and nice. If you don’t like huge crowds I recommend going in the morning, you’ll get a better parking spot that way as well. Also plan on spending a few hours walking the place to see everything and it is totally worth every second.
