Excellent social distancing, loved seeing the animals. Timed it right to see a lot of the feedings. Loved the interactive experiences like parrot walk through areas, even went back for a second trip. Would definitely recommend visiting parrots in the morning because they seemed less interactive in the evening. Prices were reasonable. Enjoyed the walk through lemur enclosure. The food places were a little busy but bringing your own lunch is definitely an option with all the seating available.

Great zoo. Has lots of good animals. Giraffes. Rhinos. Tigers. Snow leopard. Leopards. Meerkats. Zebras. Loads of types of monkeys gorillas etc. Very easy to navigate around and see everything. Very cute. They have Costa there too but you can't use your Costa card there. Not a lot food wise but they do have ice cream and hot drink stalls. Worth a visit. Easy to drive to. The weather wasn't always on our side today when we went, but it was still a good day out

After visiting Chester and seeing practically nothing, it was nice to visit a zoo where you actually get to see the animals. I spent a Saturday here from opening to closing. The best time was the last 2 hours because people with really young kids had taken their pushchairs and prams and left, making more room to view the animals properly. The guest services staff were very friendly and helpful, as were most of the staff I encountered. Only criticism I have, there were no water bottle filling stations, and a ½ litre bottle of water was £2. I understand hiking up the other food & drink prices, but they need to do better on a basic necessity. Temperatures were in excess of 30°C the day I was there.

This review is based wholly on my personal experience as I do not like zoos but I had to go for work supporting a disabled person. I'm sure little kids love it as there is plenty for them to do besides looking at the animals. For me it was very disappointing and a bit sad. Some animals are on their own which again is quite sad and others are put in enclosures, behind electric fences, and on the day I visited, most could not be seen. I was impressed with the 2 giraffes there as I'd never appreciated how big and graceful they were, but they were not out in the open. I didn't see the rhino, the leopard or much of the gorilla due to them being hidden away or out of view. I know people have to make a living and Twycross employs nearly 250 people, but to see these magnificent animals imprisoned really made me quite sad and emotional. It's purely my own opinion, I'm sure the animals are very well cared for, but I didn't enjoy my visit. The kids there seemed to enjoy the non-animal related activities more. I visited the gift shop and found the prices to be rather high for what you get, especially the cuddly toys. The smallest and cheapest being £5.99. Overall, I'd much rather see animals in their natural environment and I wonder how useful places like this are at ensuring exotic wildlife are protected against poachers, environmental factors and human interference.

We queued for 10 minutes to be told to go to customer services, no signs pointing this out. Not all the animals were on show, possibly to do with the weather. A good choice of eateries, including a Costa. Nice landscaping

Great day out for Fathers day, many animals on view and show and also got to see some eating, which was a great experience! A few empty enclosures due to work, to be expected. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and answered any questions we had - daughter loved it as a birthday treat. Will be returning again!

A really nice zoo to walk around when the weather is nice. They have a great variety of animals, although there does seem to be a slight focus on primates. I visited from around midday to roughly 4pm and had no issues viewing the animals. All of them seemed to be out and about doing things, keeping us entertained. The meerkats are always particularly funny to watch, along with the gorillas - which didn't seem to tire of play-fighting with each other and providing some brilliant entertainment. Generally the enclosures are nicely maintained and seem adequate for the animals. Some of the enclosures are a little on the small size or seem quite boring for the animals. However, this is to be expected from a zoo. That being said, the animals look well looked after, free from disease, and happy. Well worth a visit to this zoo and spending some time observing the animals.

After being sad at the condition of some of the enclosures (some of which i remember being the same on a visit more than 20years ago) on a previous visit a few years ago and the amount of empty enclosures I wasn't expecting much at all when I visited this time. I was pleasantly surprised on this visit. I can see where improvements have been and are being made and it was really nice to see some of the works that were underway last visit completed. Gruffalo land is a lovely addition and it's nice to see something other than dinosaurs as the kids area at a zoo. I think the process of booking ticket, getting in to the zoo is so easy and the team on the entrance were really helpful. In spite of how busy the car park was when we arrived at 10.30 it was really quick and easy to get parked up and in to the zoo. I had a wonderful visit absolutely making the most of the seeing some of my favourite animals (chimpanzees, gorillas, and the snow leopards). My favourite enclosures are the Chimpanzees, Tigers, Snow Leopards and the Gibbons. I will happily keep visiting the zoo as they need people coming in and spending money to enable them to spend more on rejuvenating the older enclosures and parts of the zoo. The current offer of visit once and come back for the year makes it a perfect day out for families. The facilities/play areas for kids are really great. There are also plenty of spaces to sit and relax for people with low or limited mobility. The food and drink seemed competitively priced based on recent visits to other zoos.

Remember visiting when I was in school. Times have changed. The zoo is well layed out with sign posts to all the attractions. The bird feeding area is great fun make sure you buy some nectar and the birds will flock to you. The fish and chips where not the best standard but when your hungry it will do. The gift shop is amazing just don't bring your kids in there. Also free parking

We bought a season pass for Twycross Zoo in order to be able to take our young Daughter to see all the animals. Having visited several times throughout the year I can say that the Zoo is really good and a nice place to visit for the family. This is really good given the challenges it has had to face due to lockdowns and the pandemic in general. The majority of the Staff are really helpful and approachable and the zoo is kept and maintained to a very high standard. The only criticism I have is that the food and drink prices are a little high for what you get even factoring in discounts for members so on top of entry for non members it could work out a fairly expensive day for your typical family.

Fantastic visit as it had been years ago since I last went. Lovely walk around and plenty to see. My favourite parts were the primates. The staff are very friendly and helpful also the parking is free and there’s a lot of it. Also a separate area for disabled parking. The actual size of the zoo is good as it’s not too big to walk around it all. Great day out. Recommended

Brilliant value for money, we paid £25 and can return when ever we want next year too. The zoo isn't huge and can be done in a ay, but u Dan get really close to the animals either between glass or by the way the enclosed is designed. All the animals have plenty to do especially in the newer enclosures n look happy. Food and drink in the park is not badly pried and not over inflated plus check out the catch fish and chip restaurant where the freshly cooked chips are not greasy and cooked fresh, a large portio is enough for 2. Definitely worth the money n not to be missed if in area.

Great day out, and quite cheap. Worked out about £10.50 for 1x adult and 1x child. Parking adjacent is £2.20 for upto 4hrs. We've been here many times but Sept 2020 post Covid the prebookimg system was aweful. We ended up just walking in and soon realised that everyone else waiting outside had been forced to do the same. Most of the internal areas were closed; otters; reptiles; nocturnal animals; invertebrates; bust babies etc due to Covid 19 restrictions But weirdly the Komodo Dragon internal viewing area, and the golden marmosets were just limited to 3 people in at a time. Was very inconsistent and we were not told before we paid to enter. Felt like 1/2 tof the park was closed which was a kick in the teeth. Make sure you find the Komodo Dragon if you go, it is hidden in a far corner which is very easy to miss if you don't know where to look and it is an amazing creature! Finally, for a conservation Park I expected some recycling facilities to help encourage my daughter to put her waste in the correct recycling bin but there was nothing. When I asked in the cafe they said to just throw it in the generic bin. We ended up taking it home with us and had a sticky bag which was annoying. Usually a great afternoon out but tarnished by lack of communicating around closed areas, and poor standards around waste recycling. Get those things sorted and would have been a great day, the animals themselves are very well looked after and the enclosures are nice and big. Well worth a visit, usually!

Purchased day tickets in advance, 2 adults and 3 children. Just under £100. Now here's the great bit!!!!! You get to visit all year round, once you book your first visit it upgrades to an annual pass. I believe another 10 visits each. Now that works out to less than £10 a visit for all 5 people. The zoo has really been transformed, lots to see and do. We had a lovely day out. Take a picnic, food a touch on the pricey side if your a large group. Plenty to keep the kids occupied. Give it a go you won't be disappointed. Free parking. Easy walking. Compact.

Quite a frustrating experience for me and my family, unfortunately. The parking was huge and it was not an issue as there was parking space but it took is 10 minutes to go to the actual entrance. That you can argue is out of their control, however placing a soft play centre in the very beginning of a zoo was a big no-no for us. That spoiled our toddler’s experience (and ours) and she no longer wanted to see any animals, but wanted to go back there so we spent our whole time trying to entertain her with the animals, who in a lot of cages were non existent. The entrance to the chimpanzee bit was not opened and we couldn’t figure out how to get in, we couldn’t see any tigers either. Weather wasn’t great and everywhere was extremely muddy, everyone was shoving in and queuing to see the 2 giraffes. Most of the enclosures were covered in reflective glass on which you could only see people behind you in the reflection and the animals were miles away hiding into the distance. Very frustrated with an experience that took an hour to drive to :/

Always a lovely day out with the kids! Great for all ages and so many things to do whatever the season, summer is the best if you want the water bit too. I thought it was a lovely idea to buy a ticket and get a 12 month pass as well! we will come back very often as we love the variety of animals and the many things to do. Everything you need for children is here and it's only a short 35 mins away from home. The zoo has never been too expensive to visit as well and there is always plenty of parking and even when the zoo is busy there is always something to move on to to clear the crowds. The staff are really nice and helpful as well.

Had a great day out with the Family, great size zoo not too big like other zoos where there is a massive walk between some animals. There are plenty of picnic areas with lots of seating, the little splash park was wonderful for the kids to cool off. The new Gruffalo area is very interactive and kids will love this. Overall really good day!

We came with our kids for our youngest daughter's 1st birthday. We enjoyed all of the animals. Good choice of animals too. They all looked happy and well looked after. We also enjoyed the gruffalo experience. Great fun with children, our legs hurt now! Toilets were clean and quite a few around so good when the kids always need the loo. They definitely need more hand soap though. Nice outdoor play areas for kids and seating for parents. Definitely lots to look around. Personally I didn't think the gift shop was expensive. They had offers on which is good when you have more than 1 child. We took our own food so can't say anything about the food. Definitely recommend for a family day out I think our kids will be talking about this for a while. Thank you

Nice zoo but obviously having problems like all zoos in these times. Social distancing not adhered to at all times but not zoos fault just ignorant people. Some of the animals didn't look happy but again I'm sure it's the same with most caged wild animals in zoos. But without these places doing their best for conservation we wouldn't be seeing some of these animals alive now. Top marks for their conservation work

I've been visiting this zoo for 30 years and love it. The animals are so well cared for and happy. The monkeys are mesmerising and I could watch them for hours. They have made everything Covid safe so I hope more people visit to ensure they can continue to do their great work.

This was a fantastic place I've never been here before some of my friends have told me it's fantastic place to visit. I sent with brother mum and 1year old niece, staff all around the zoo were friendly and helpful and my favourite was going to the lorikeet landing area where there are lorikeet birds in a big hangar, you have to go in through a small shop and collect some nectar pot for £1 and then you can go into e hangar... You will not be disappointed these birds are so beautiful!!! Absolutely loved every part of the zoo, it was not too expensive in the shop and there were toilets in key parts of the zoo so you don't have to walk so far to go to the bathroom. Very well recommended.

We had a fantastic day. We went during the week to avoid crowds and we practically had the park to ourselves. Masks were to be worn in any indoor area and hand sanitizer was placed throughout the park. The staff we're really polite and helpful throughout the whole day often informing us of fun facts about all of the animals. The animals are clearly very well cared for and seemed really relaxed and comfortable in their environments. The cost of the trip was very reasonable for everything that you get. We spent a full day here and everyone had a fantastic time watching some beautiful animals. I'd definitely recommend as a day out especially at this time.

Very pleasantly surprised. I'd half expected a sad 'council run' zoo. The reality was a well run, well designed and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out. All of the animals seem to be in well conceived and well maintained environments, with thoughtful viewing and lingering space for visitors at every turn. Some of the monkey environments are so natural, you wonder why they don't escape away through the trees! The animals' behaviour seemed content/natural enough. Some exhibits were closed as it's impossible to maintain social distancing, but the majority were open and excellent. Prices for entry are an absolute bargain. The onsite café is a decent spot to stop for lunch, although the limited menu and prices are not as appealing as the rest of the Wildlife Park. If you were to bring your own picnic, there are many many spaces to escape and enjoy the park while you eat - often while watching monkeys watching you! All in all, an absolute asset to the city, a great day out and some good work being done for conservation. I'd recommend!

Visited in the week and was disappointed to see so little activity especially from the 4 primates groups, but the weather had been hot so was understandable. Had visited the previous year and was much better, so many more active animals as shown in the selected photos. Worth a visit and plenty tables for your own picnic.

Fantastic day out for the family, very easy to find, parking was very good and close to the entrance for blue badge holders. All of the indoors areas were well heated, and toilets are plentiful around the site, almost all the areas are accessible for wheelchair uses and pushchairs. In the few areas that can't accept pushchairs there are pram park areas that are safe to leave them. The food from the fox area cafe was not the best, the child meal cobs are dry and there was only a choice of pom bear crisps, the sausage roll was acceptable but a bit expensive, the drinks were great, I would recommend taking a picnic for food.

Lovely place to visit for the day with plenty to see. Takes approximately 4-5 hours to walk around if you stop and look at everything there. Take your own food as some of the prices inside are absolutely ridiculous. There are loads of picnic benches all over, so it's not a problem to find somewhere to eat.

Great zoo for the price and size. Enough animals to see, interactive for kids. Includes a large gruffola experience. There is a restaurant, shops, toilets and soft play and a park outside with plenty of seats. Great deal when buying a day ticket you get a free yearly pass. Have been before so will come back again throughout the year. Not bad for a nice sunny winters day!

I am lucky enough to live nearby to Twycross Zoo and have visited frequently over the years. They've made lots of improvements and changes over this time but it is always a fantastic visit! Their conservation efforts are second to none and you can tell that the staff really care about the animals. I'd highly recommend a day trip to Twycross! One of the best zoo's in the country!

Really great day out which we enjoyed. The one way system worked well and most guest followed it. The keepers answered all my sons questions (which was quite a few) with patience and very informative. Yes some of the animals looked a little bit sad but are well looked after. You can see the work they are doing for conservation and helping to preserve species for the future.

We went for a last day out before lockdown and were not disappointed. The Halloween Witch reading as we arrived added to the spooky atmosphere across the Zoo! They've got one way systems in place to help with the Covid restrictions and at the time we visited were only open at 20% capacity which means we weren't fighting to see any animals!

Having read a lot of reviews that have really criticised the zoo, this review hopefully redresses the balance. We had a black Friday family fun ticket so lots included that we were expecting to be unavailable. OK so indoor attractions are closed, this is a C19 restriction so to be expected. We saw all the animals (giraffes, rhinos, big cats, gorillas etc.) we wanted to, even the ones we had to view through glass... big deal - we saw them so we were happy. ALL of the added extras - feeding Lorikeets, safari jeeps & soft toys for the kids were sorted for us. Even though the gift shop was closed we just requested what we wanted & the staff got them for us. We all loved that the park was quiet and we had the most delicious fish & chips (though £30 for three portions was a little on the steep side). Considering the area had just gone to tier 4, we had a super time. We're looking forward to going back particularly for the butterfly house! In the face of adversity - well done Twycross 👏

We visited to support our local zoo, after what covid has done to the economy, we thought it was important to help out. Bought our tickets online, parked up no problem and walked over to the entrance. We arrived on a Saturday and it was a bit busy. We queued for 5 minutes before being allowed in, no problem at all. We followed the route to the chipshop because we were starving so it was right at the end of the zoo. The app helped us find our way, nice and easy to use. A few of the animal pens were empty, which was disappointing and doesn’t look good when there’s no signage explaining what is what with an empty enclosure. We also noticed almost no staff at all, there was one at the lemur enclosure and that was it. What this meant was basically people were grouping up too tight, ignoring social distancing rules and people not moving on and being inconsiderate. When we got to the tropical bird area we noticed it was so tight that social distancing was not possible, annoying and unsafe. We grabbed some fish and chips, they were tasty and £20 for two adults. It was busy and waited about 10 minutes before getting to the front of the queue (masks required for indoors). Once outside all of the tables were in use so a fence post had to suffice. One issue we had was disposing of our rubbish; all four of the bins were overflowing and some people just left rubbish on the ground near the bin (not very nice). I walked a bit to find an empty bin, which was just around the corner. The monkey house is good, looks pretty on the outside and it’s a large space for them to enjoy. We really enjoyed the butterfly enclosure, there are some beautiful species in there, really nice, plus some large birds. It can get cramped in there and masks are required, that and the high moist heat makes it uncomfortable but bearable. Social distancing is hard in that enclosure but with no staff it is what it is. After that you are generally at the end of the zoo, sadly no snow leopards to see. The gift shop had a very large queue so we didn’t bother to go in and wait. We left but realised without clear directions we had to leave at the same place as people coming in, which was confusing. Again staff were not present to help. If you’re going to open a large public place then have the staff in place to do so, don’t just let people muddle through, especially when some family groups exceed 6 people, it all adds up. On the whole it was good to see the zoo, but it would have been better if it was controlled by staff and larger arrows to see where you can and can’t go. Hopefully when we return it will be better.

Lovely afternoon here. I'm not one for caged animals but this place is a sanctuary. Animals look so well looked after and healthy, the enclosures are good, giving them privacy but allowing us the opportunity to observe also. The upkeep of the actual site seems to have greatly improved since my last visit. Very impressed.

What an amazing visit despite covid, the majority of the animals were out and the one way system was easy to follow. I visited with a wheelchair so the only thing worth noting is one very steep hill to an enclosure and various breaks in the concrete due to tree roots 10/10

Lovely place with so much to see, especially for the children. There are animals from all over the world that people go on safari for! Be prepared for lots of walking and going up and down to see everything. Best to go when it's quiet as the animals don't appreciate large amounts of noise, they seem more relaxed. There's food places but not much choice so bring some snacks and drinks with you. We spent four hours here and it felt rushed so take your time and enjoy it

The bookings to this Zoo is only online, there is no problem if you can't be on time between the slot you booked. Well maintained. Friendly staff. Health animals, not to crowded even on a weekend. Free parking available. If you have forgotten your baggy they have a buggy service for your child. My kids enjoyed the Zoo.

Was a nice quiet day so got to have a nice slow walk around saw all the monkeys 🐒 and Giraffes and Tortoises 🐢, the penguins 🐧 were closed due to a enclosure deep clean and the birds were off limits due to the Avian Influensa outbreak and all the eating places were closed apart from Costa I'm guessing due to it being quiet in the first few months I imagine it will be better come Feb half term, still enjoyed it though and even upgraded to the year pass as you can visit other zoos around the country will definitely be back in the summer.

First time we've been there for over 5yrs the place has changed quite a bit, there making it more interactive with more open areas for gibbons, lemurs etc which is all good tho with the hot weather alit of the animals stayed inside Also a downside was that there was lots of enclosures empty as they stated they set for upgrades & all the fencing in place I assume from the pandemic meant trying to get to places a pain but overall still a good place to take the kids/grandkids & the new gruffalo area was enjoyable for them

Went there with a group of adults and kids. It was really nice and not too big to walk around which was good meaning the younger kids didn’t need too much resting in between. Lovely places to sit and eat outside with benches and on grass. There were quite a few different animals to see but it wasn’t overcrowded like some other zoos and there were parts which were interactive so that was nice for the kids. The butterfly place and the tiger experience were really outstanding and we had a chance to catch the penguins being fed which was fun. Overall it was a good place to visit but I wouldn’t go often as it is quite expensive.

We came to Twycross zoo for a birthday and it was worth it, it was very spacious and nice to walk around, it didn’t feel like a zoo and has good conservation backgrounds for the leopards and the monkeys, we discovered by reading the signs. They have a large gift shop with alot of choice and a Costa. You can also leave and return which was helpful for us. Outside, they have a nature reserve which extends the visit. All of the animals were so interesting to read about and would come and visit you at the glass.

Only give 4 stars due to, not bring able to view rhino properly outdoors because of lack of view altogether. Same as the snow leopard. You have to sit in the restaurant if you want a chance to see it. Animals all looked healthy and happy

Was a nice zoo but drainage needs to be improved around the walkways, It wasn't even that wet recently but it was still bad enough to ruin the kids shoes. Animals look cared for and happy. We had a lovely day out.

Took my wife here for her birthday and we all loved it! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and so were all the animals! I highly recommend it for animal lovers and kids! The meerkats were adorable and so were the penguins.

Fab day out with the family for my birthday (all adults) lots to do and see, nicely laid out and accessible to get to everything. Recommend buying tickets online as they're slightly cheaper, but slither way, very reasonably priced. Nice food in the cafe, very clean park throughout, friendly staff :)

Great zoo! We loved it! The Gruffalo Trail is absolutely amazing - well done - so much work must have went into it. It is fully interactive, and makes quite an impression. The last Gruffalo bit is a bit scary 😅 (we’re such scaredy-cats though!). I was expecting a short walk with a few statutes, but this was a fully interactive experience and took quite a bit of time to complete ! The zoo itself is lovely, on a flat ground too which is great for tired feet. I found the zoo including the enclosures very clean which made a great impression on me. Makes me sad when I see dirty enclosures in zoos. So well done!

Great family day out. The animals are kept really well, we loved the elephants getting so close to these awesome creatures was amazing. The zoo does get quite busy at time but we’ll worth a visit.

Clearly a zoo transitioning away from cages to more open plan enclosures. The newer enclosures were really nice. Gruffalo adventure trail was good, but quite a few of the displays were broken on the way round. Nice family dsy out

3 stars because the customer service is diabolical. We were given a voucher from the children’s school, which gave a discount code, we booked online and entered the code and paid what was due, only to arrive and be told because we didn’t have the voucher with us, we had to pay £35 to access the zoo, even though we had already paid and had bar codes etc… I think this is absolutely disgusting. The reason was because people were booking with the code even though they hadn’t been given the voucher. Well, that sounds like a you problem, you should have ensured once the code was used online, it couldn’t be used again. We were also told the only options are go home and get the voucher or pay the difference, a refund wasn’t even an option! The animals are fabulous and the newer enclosures are brilliant. As with most places, food and drink is massively overpriced. But I have to say the start of the day was disgraceful and the crowd of people who were in the same boat as us tells me this is more a money making thing than anything. Honestly, it’s so hard to afford to do family days out and this just took the Mickey! Definitely needs sorting out.

Came as a couple and obviously it is more tailored to families with children but we still had a really good time. There was a wide range of animals and you can easily spend a whole day here. It did rain really heavily but there was places to shelter. Parking was free too which is always nice. Booked online in advance and got the yearly return ticket which is good!

Not been to Twycross for years. Lot different to last time. Huge area dedicated to the Gruffalo which the kids loved. Usually costs £25 per adult which I think is a bit steep but today got in for free as my other half is a teacher and there was some special offer over the summer for people in education. Huge car parking area. Animals were great, all looked healthy and we'll looked after. One special moment was one of the monkeys had given birth a couple of hours earlier to twins.

A really nice day out. Staff are enthusiastic (especially the young lady in the butterfly house with the tapir pin badge-so sorry I forgot your name but our son really enjoyed hearing all of your knowledge!) and friendly. The animals appear well cared for and as happy as is possible when in captivity. I found the whole park accessible by wheelchair, and accessible toilets are large enough to turn around rather than reverse out! Lots of blue badge parking right outside the entrance. Tickets are very reasonably priced. There are a few food kiosks on site but they have been closed when we have visited, which I found odd as both visits have been during half term. We had a picnic with us so it didn't matter, and there is a small Costa Coffee serving hot and cold drinks in the main building. There is a large soft play in the main building where grown ups can sit and enjoy a coffee whilst supervising their little ones. This should be pre-booked and I believe it costs £6 for a one hour free-play. Suitable for up to 12 years as a guide. I've read a lot of negative reviews of the park, saying it was run down (I didn't feel it was at all), that there is nowhere to get a hot drink (there is a Costa Coffee on site) and that the food is overpriced (in this economy, £11 for fish and chips is pretty average). If you don't want to pay restaurant prices, just bring a picnic-there's plenty of places to sit and eat your own picnic. I've also seen reviews saying the wheelchair access is poor. I'm interested to know where they are referring to as I found it accessible in my battered old power chair. Isn't it funny how two people can have completely different reviews of the same experience!

Absolutely amazing zoo! So lucky to have it on my doorstep! Visited twice recently and captured some great photos on my most recent trip and it was an amazing experience. Seeing the baby gibbon and mum for the first time is something I will never forget and I plan on visiting her again in April. I would like to thank the education staff and all other staff members for their great customer service and support.

We visited the zoo as a couple, my wife and I had a great time walking around at our leisure - a well maintained, tidy zoo where the animals looked well looked after. Our only negatives were the industrial looking habitats of the primates and the extortionate food prices. Otherwise, we had a fantastic day out.

Very impressed with Twycross Zoo especially with the Gruffalo trail. My youngest son loved it and me! Captured the whole story with lots of interactive parts and even real animals! The zoo itself was fabulous! They have really thought about the details of your experience there. Even the ladies toilets had leaf cutting ants by the sinks.! The gibbon enclosure was my favorite. The inside viewing area was ideal especially as it started pouring down just as we got in! The spaces for the animals were larger than other zoos I've visited. The tiger in closure was so different. My only negative was the soft play area in the entrance. You had to pay £6 to use or £3 if you had an annual membership. To have all the 4 apes to see was so nice! Highly recommend going.!

It was a great day out. The talks are very informative and the staff will very happily answer any questions you have about the animals. We took our time going around and we were there for the entire day. There were a lot of puddles and slightly slippy pathways since it had rained so if the forecast is looking a bit grim then I advise popping some wellies or good boots on. Some enclosures are starting to look a little tired but you can see in places that they are working on it. I do feel that the Chimpanzee Eden needs an enforced one way route if it's a busy day. Unfortunately it was very difficult to get through parts in there when lots of pushchairs are trying to get past each other on that narrow track. Other than that the zoo itself is a solid 5 stars for me still! However.. that ticket booking system.. The way the ticket system works now is an absolute nightmare and almost feels like a social experiment because of how infuriating it is to try and navigate. I've been to quite a few places now and I've never come across anything like it! I very nearly gave up on the process and went somewhere else. It took me almost 45 minutes to figure it out, and I dread to think how difficult it is for older folks who are much less tech savvy than I am.. Please please PLEASE look into sorting this, having seen recent reviews I know I am not alone in this feeling!

Beautiful grounds but a lot of animals were inside and therefore we weren't able to see them. Fairly busy with visitors but park is very large so we were able to socially distance. No opportunity to watch animals being fed due to covid restrictions.

Great zoo! Loads of different animals, especially monkeys and primates. Chimps and bonobos were particularly fascinating. Food was a bit pricey but it's what you expect at a place like this. £6.50 for a burger 🧐 Overall, definitely worth the entry fee

Do not visit until weather is better and covid restrictions relaxed, unless you want to pay for an expensive walk around buildings and enclosures with no animals. Went early December to show support and wasted time, fuel and money. Saw less than 20 animals out of 500. Informed zoo and basically told to get lost and it was my fault for visiting at that time. I accept that conditions were not the zoo's fault, but they should not be open, they are taking money under false pretences. Appalling and short sighted customer service. They should be encouraging disappointed visitors to revisit. Now I shall never return.

The to say it but when we went between Christmas and new year it was just a bit too busy with the whole Covid stuff. Also would recommend taking some wellies as the paths are fairly muddy.

Just purchased my annual season pass, even with another lockdown looming and my visit today, was once again was well worth it. Please don't hesitate to visit, just remember not all enclosures are fully open and some animals may be difficult to now see but it is still a great place, even with the restrictions. I have really enjoyed visiting this zoo and have seen it evolve over the last 15 years to where it is today. Great enclosures, great animals and great staff.

We visited a few days ago. Indoor enclosures closed, but all outdoor ones open. Saw zebras, wallabies, otters, monkeys, leopard, meerkats, lorikeets (although you can't hand feed them at mo). Soft play also closed of course but chippy open. We are members so didn't mind the closures. Staff are always so lovely and our membership has been great value for money we've had it several years now.

Due to the government restrictions in place, the indoor enclosures are closed, due to the cold weather most animals rather stay inside, meaning you won't see as many animals as usual, However Twycross has sanitizer in place throughout the parks, they have marked routes for you to follow, kiosks are open for drinks and beverages (take away option) and the park itself is lovely to walk through. I truly admire the staff that are trying to keep this zoo enjoyable! They are on hand to help and ever so friendly. It's not a long day out at the moment, however we still did really enjoyed ourselves!

Pre booked tickets to avoid waiting and no queues to get in all very covid safe. All outdoor attractions were open but be aware due to covid tier 3 restrictions the indoor areas and walk throughs are currently closed. Some of the animals were inside understandably during to the cold snowy weather. Feeding time for the gorillas is worth an observation at midday and probably the highlight off the day watching them collect the food in the snow then hurry back inside to the warm. We spent just under 2 hours on site including the snowman building! Was it worth £19.95 for an adult and two children ( blue peter badge discount) yes and no at the end of the day they need to have gate money to feed the animals and I feel that I helped in that, all be it a lot of the park was out of bounds. Would I go back again and the answer is yes.

  • 1/5 Peter H. 3 years ago on Google
Paying full price admission and no access to any enclosures is not acceptable. If there was a notification about this when I booked my tickets I didn't see it. £75 for a visit and hardly any animals to see. DISAPPOINTED.

  • 2/5 Sean L. 3 years ago on Google
This review relates specifically to the Christmas Event being held by Twycross Zoo at the moment. Really unhappy with Twycross Zoo today. Paid £35 a head for tickets for the Santa event. I was clearly told by the man on kiosk to watch Santa's story time event and then Santa would guide all wristband holders to the explorer zone for photo opportunities and to hang a key on the Christmas tree. After listening to Santa's Story (during which there was no Social distancing in place at all for the audience, with one big huddle of upwards of 30 people) I headed over to the explorer zone to be told the queue was too long and to try again in an hour. The same was said to many others, "the queue had been cut off". I unfortunately saw the heartbreak in a child's eyes as he was told by one of the elf helpers to try again in an hour, to which his father replied that they didn't have the time and had to leave. Clearly devastated, the child passed his key for the tree to the elf helper who promised to pass it along to Santa, but couldn't get him a visit. Fortunately after complaining to a manager I was able to join the queue and get a photo of my young one with Santa, though I can't say the same happened for the poor boy I witnessed. Whilst in this "cut off" queue, multiple other families joined the queue without being turned away. It seemed to me that the "cut off" was more of a way to remove the crowd rather than actually being a cut off queue, as many people moved away upon hearing the queue was closed. The Ice Queen could've been a saviour to the experience, Elsa from "Frozen" singing the hit song "Let it go", which is a big hit with both children and adults. Unfortunately her lack of enthusiasm when dancing, and feedback from the microphone whilst singing, really took away from the experience. All in all seemed a very poorly planned event, with little attempt of making the site "Christmasy" (the queue and path to see Santa is just a muddy trail, with Santa sat in a gazebo) and Mrs Claus not being present in her own kitchen. Although the change of scenery was nice during this is pandemic, it's definitely not the day I expected when paying £35 a head.

Went for their Xmas special almost excellent. Rain not their fault but elves work shop over subscribed and despite having paid for this and having magic keys we were told we were unable to do this. Sad really as put a damper on the day. Everything else was really good especially the lunch. Do feel a a bit robbed though

Not even worth one star. Ripped off. Would not recommend to anyone. After such an awful year for everyone, getting ripped off by this place tops the lot. Yes it's raining, that cant be helped, all animals in doors but public not being allowed even socially distanced. Nothing Christmas about it. Only extra thing after paying over £200 is a sausage sandwich! Shame on you!!!!!!

we had to book in advance via the booking line found on the website. this was fairly straightforward but waited a long time to get through. ticket prices vary but there are discounts for pensioners and children go free. cafe was clean and the food was nice. Not always very many animals to see especially when it rains and they all hide. We always have a nice time and I would reccomend it as a fun and educational family friendly place. there is paid parking and a childs play area. Easy to access and mostly (if not completely) wheelchair friendly.

I've given BWCP 4 stars despite the fact I was only able to get a quarter of the way around due to the battery on my mobility scooter dying. The explain the reason I've only given 4 stars and not 5 later. The animals we were able to see (due to both Covid19 and my scooter battery dying) were very well cared for and were obviously happy in their environment. The Covid 19 policy to get in was excellent, inside the gift shop it was good, despite some parents not being able to control their children. However once you got into the park itself these covid policies seemed to almost entirely vanish. Yes there were hand sanitising stations dotted here and there and a sign on the cafe but going around the park was literally a free for all. There were yellow arrows on the floor but these were so badly worn in places it looked like these had been down years. If these were meant to identify a one way system it drastically didn't work. Maybe have signs up saying "This way around"? Also the only people I saw with a facemask on were the two guys on entry and myself and my wife. However despite this I shall return eventually. If I can get through to book my tickets that is.

I love this place and have been here several times. One reason is the modest entrance prices, unlike some zoos. Another reason is the sight of European Lynx - they are larger and more scary looking than I'd expected. In October 2020 they worked hard to make the visit as safe as possible during the Covid-19 epidemic.

When it came to leaving as always we make a point of going to the gift shop to buy something for the kids as part of there visit only to be told we couldn't and should of done this on our way in. What a fantastic place. We visited during the new Covid-19 restrictions but after our first experience we plan to come back again. There's loads of animals to see and in a variety of enclosures. It's a nice size but with lots to see and loads of picnic benches all the way around, so take food with you and go around twice! Loved it and will look at getting a season ticket for the future.

Lovely place we'll looked after. Walk at your own leisure don't feel pressured to move on from the animals too quickly. Wildlife on your doorstep what more do you need

Great place with lots of different animals. The enclosures are spacious and well kept. This place brings back fond memories of me visiting with my grandparents so it's great that it's still going. Has a cafe and a lovely little play area.

Spent a great few hours here with picnic and ice-cream from café. Admission is pre-booked so not too busy; directions around the site are well signposted; place is clean; animals seem well looked after. Indoor exhibits are closed, which is disappointing, but something I agree with - I would rather they be closed than try to socially distance inside! Will happily come again.

Went to evening event where it was suggested we'd see more animals as those that normally hide away in the day would emerge. That didn't really happen. The fish and chips at The Catch restaurant was shocking. My other half had a burger and it was difficult to eat together due to the locations of each restaurant. Great to see the animals and the zoo itself is in great shape and they all seem happy.

Bit disappointed in how the zoo has gone down hill since our last visit. Hopefully only a blip due to covid. The breeding program only deserves more support.

Really good day out with the family. Loads of animals to see. Brilliant to actually be able to go in with the lemars and see them enjoying themselves. Good to have the little parks and splash area for the kids too. Really good zoo and great work that they are doing?

Nice compact zoo with a great variety of animals which meant you weren't walking miles between each enclosure. We went on a wet day and hardly anyone else had bothered. Still managed to see all of the animals and the staff were very friendly and happy to have a chat.

Great for a place to visit with kids. Great experience of feeding lorikeets for a relatively small fee. Cost £1 for a pot of nectar to feed them.

Loved our visit here .. It's easy to get around ..Some of the areas the animals have are amazing ...And we managed to see most of them... There is more attractions coming soon . The only thing it would have been nice to see is what the animals are called .. (my children like this.. ) Although there are good descriptions on habitat ,diet etc...

Great zoological establishment. Home to the four great apes and fantastic range of species. This zoo is all charity based and really focuses on conservation and education above all with great welfare standards. I look forward to seeing the major changes over the next decade.

Fantastic zoo with fascinating animals in great enclosures. The zoo has an indoor and outdoor play area and Costa and cafe. The zoo is easy for many people to walk around. Struggled finding toilets as a few were closed the day we went, had to keep going g back to the entrance toilets.

bought a penguin experience today for my girls Birthdays, such a fantastic day, girls really enjoyed it.Also like me I had two of my girls doing this experience and you only got one present given, so I ended up buying another penguin soft toy, obviously my girls are older but if they were younger I could see that being a issue, as I always said you can't give one child without the other, so in future I will ask this question on how a gift is given at the end. Only issues we had was the food on twycross wasn't good, only food options was fish and chips or burgers, or cheese and pickle sandwiches, as every other place was closed.so I suggest if you are not into fried food or have allergies definitely take your own food, wish I had known this before going. But the experience itself was really good, and the keeper we had was amazing, told the girls all about the penguins to, and answered all the questions they asked, so yes really nice day.

First time visiting Twycross Zoo. Would highly recommend Twycross Zoo for a day visit whether by yourself or family or friends. Plenty of places to eat and drink and reasonably priced. Decent admission price as well. Friendly staff and some great animal enclosures.

We had a wonderful nature walk and the opportunity to see many animals up close. The children had a lot of fun in the playground at the entrance. It is a place to spend an enjoyable day for both children and adults.

Great zoo, such a lovely day.. a good size with plenty of animals from around the world. Enjoyed reading about each animal on the information boards. plenty of places to get food and toilets in multiple areas. The staff that we met were nice. Animals looked well cared for and appeared content..

  • 3/5 Natalie D. 2 years ago on Google
I guess animals dont like the cold any more than I do. All the animals except the penguins were in the enclosures looking a bit sad and bored. Most of the afternoon was spent peering through glass and over fences to see nothing more than empty climbing frames and grass. Thanks to covid , no lemurs walk through and the Avian flu caused the Lorikets to be closed aswell. The only place to get food and drink ( unless you booked the Mrs Clause Kitchen experience) was either Costa which you need to remortgage for to buy a hot drink and tiny cake or the fish and chips back in the middle of the zoo. The Frozen show seemed good for little kids, but with 3 teens, Elsa belting out " Let it go" made them want to just " Go home" So, I wouldn't recommend a Zoo visit in winter unless it was at a heavily reduced cost to reflect the amount you get to experience.

  • 3/5 Farah N. 2 years ago on Google
It was good but not having a hard copy of the map was quite annoying at times. The education officer Chris was superb and the kids loved him. Unfortunately many animals were not out such as the tiger, lemurs and elephants which was a downer.

  • 3/5 Leads 2 years ago on Google
The signs of where to go are not very good. I spent ages trying to find the snow leopard and ended up walking in circles. Also, the viewing angles of the Tigers and Rhinos are poor. You end up standing on one end of the enclosure and they would be at the other end where you can't get to. They never come to where you're standing. Also, the animals that were there weren't the best. The main animal they have is the Tiger and maybe the snow leapord. The rest is a zebra, giraffe and a tortoise and a few gorillas and apes, penguins and birds. Not the most thrilling of animals if I'm to be honest. No lions or elephants or hippos. It's good if you fancy walking with your toddler who wouldn't know any better but not the best zoo to go to.

  • 5/5 Mr. C. 2 years ago on Google
We just popped into the cafe. You can go into the cafe for free and you can see into the snow leopard enclosure from there and sometimes see the leopard as we did (see photos). We didn't go inside the zoo on this occasion but spent £10 in the cafe, 2 large capaccino and 2 cookies. Went in the shop and used the loo. The car park is free by the way. Enjoy.

  • 2/5 James C. 2 years ago on Google
Booked online which came to £88 for 1 adult, carer, 3 children and mobility scooter hire. Unfortunately I left feeling disappointed and it is because we paid full price for half of the experience. Loads of the enclosures stated they were closed due to work being carried out, so were empty. All food areas were closed except for those in the main entrance with the play area. We were there from 10:30 until 14:00 and none of the food/drink stalls opened, so couldnt buy food or drink whilst walking around. Not even the on-site fish and chips place opened. If you are struggling to justify staff working on the weekdays, why don't you offer cheaper admission to encourage more visitors to utilise these stalls?? You should also tell us what animals will not be available to be seen! Also noticed the chocolate you sell in the gift shop at an insane price contains Palm Oil, is that not hypocritical?

Great family day out. The zoo isn't too big so with small children they don't get easily tired out and bord. The new gruffalo area is brilliant. My youngest loved walking around checking it all out. The apes at the zoo are the highlight as so fun to watch them play and interact.

  • 4/5 The S. 2 years ago on Google
Been to Twycross Zoo today with a 4 and 7 year old Overall it was a good day. Its the first time we have been and without the Gruffalo experience I feel I would rate it lower than 4 stars. The park is very well maintained and the money is clearly reinvested here to make it spotlessly clean for the animals and the guests. The park could do with some shows to keep the kids entertained. All day the only person we saw talking about the animals was a lad at the giraffe enclosure. If there were other shows that we missed they weren't advertised but to be honest, I don't think there were any other shows/talks/feeding like all the other zoo's or animal parks we have been to. The eating places are nice. They also serve Costa coffee which is nice to see. There are also ample places to have a pack up if you wish. The Gruffalo experience is truly excellent. This has clearly cost a lot of money to create and has been done professionally and thoughtfully. The journey through the story takes you to an owl enclosure and a reptile house for snakes. We went on day 2 of the opening and it was a shame that there was only 1 snake present. This place must have took some real planning to pull off, so it would have been nice to see all the snakes present. They also had a few technical hitches whilst we were there with the interactive exhibits not functioning properly. That said, my boys loved it. Having been brought up on books by Julia Donaldson they were immersed into what they thought was the real gruffalo world. We did the whole park twice and still managed to leave by 4pm. Its not really a full day out. I would suggest 4 hours would be more than enough to do it all slowly as its not the biggest zoo. The only last thing to mention is that we didn't get to see some of the animals as they weren't able to come outside. We visited the tiger enclosure 3 times but could only see it at the very back of the internal cage. This was a huge disappointment to my 4 year old as he loves BIG cats.

Twycross has an impressive selection of animals and eateries for a small zoo, considering I visited on a Bank Holiday the queues weren't too bad to enter and in the gift shop, and staff were friendly and did not show the stress they were obviously under with visitor numbers. The four great apes are amazing to see, though slightly saddening (an orangutan spent the ten minutes I saw it waiting at a gate, disinterested in much else - see photo). There were plenty of enriching equipment for the apes, but with their level of intelligence I think they still may get bored... Or were concentrating on something interesting through the fence, who knows?! The goat and lemur walk through are brilliant ideas, giving the public a chance to see an animal without bars between. The white goat without horns was so friendly he gambled right over for a stroke, and made my day. Other than the animals my favourite thing to see at the zoo, as a childless person, are parents regretting their life choices, and there were many. I'd avoid the zoo on Bank Holiday if you want to avoid screaming children, and overhearing tens of domestics an hour. Also available to see were horrendous displays of "parenting" with kids being encouraged to pick up caterpillars in the butterfly house out of the view of staff by entitled dads. Caterpillar was dropped on the floor right in the middle of the path, which we managed to dodge, but possibly not the fifty people being held up behind me. Not all the exhibits and walk through are wheelchair friendly, with some paths uneven and home to large protruding tree roots, which should be taken into account by visitors with mobility issues.

We recently adopted the gorillas so decided to visit and found it was a great day out. Nice flat very well laid out zoo that is obviously making a lot of upgrades to provide a better animal environment. Lots of places to sit and relax and some great exhibits. Will definitely be a regular visit.

Amazing place to spend a day with kids. Kids will enjoy. Will get a buggy at the entrance, more recommend to take off going with young kids. Worth of money. It's better to get ur snacks for munching as very few snack bars inside. Even has option for shower, sprinkler area also for kids(has changing place also). Butterfly park is also a attraction. Even we get Nectar to feed birds. Many play area. Many animals. All places are clean. Well maintained place. Even outside the zoo, thr is soft play area for kids. Most suitable for summer day out.

Half the animals weren't in cages. No where to eat unless you pay over the top prices for fish and chips ?, I suggest you take a picnic nowhere to get a hot drink. The day we went, the heavens opened up. Luckily, there was plenty of shelter under trees. Next time, we are going to wait for a dry, sunny, warm day .

We came to visit Twycross Zoo all the way from West Bromwich, at it took us about 45 min drive. It was a bit difficult to find parking at first but we managed! There are lots of areas to look around but no bay markings because area is quite rural. Also, there is special area for disabled parking, which is amazing for those who are in need! It's easy to find entrance, there was no queue or whatsoever we have also booked our tickets online to save ourselves time! My daughter was excited to see all the animals, there was plenty of places to sit, have a picnic, toilet areas, cafe, fish and chip shop, ice cream stall etc. Unfortunately, many animals weren't there or couldn't be seen, we haven't seen elephants, lions, hippos which wasn't an issue as we still had a great time but our local zoo had many more animals that Twycross considering all this journey. But lots of play areas/water park and picnic areas made up for lack of animals! We have also been inside the store to buy animal toys and some souvenirs, again, pricey but totally worth to make your children happy!!!

I haven't been here in a long time but my recent trip I was pleasantly surprised with how good twycross has become. Aside from a lot of the animals being pretty good at hiding, it is a great day out. It was very busy (school holidays) but we was still able to get around all of the park pretty easily. Recommend taking a picnic to take advantage of the many picnic areas and avoid the expensive food. Plus if it's a hot day, swimming gear for the kids to.use the splash park.

Nice old fashioned zoo . We had a nice day at twycross, took forever to actually get in with allot of people ignoring the queues which wasn't helping. Plenty of animals to look like which we all enjoyed , you just have to remember your not at Chester zoo , which is allot more expensive though . Not many toilets , or food while walking round but a massive food , soft play by the exit with a snow leopard viewing area which was a waste , should of had animals you could actually see in that enclosure . We hired a mobility scooter , which you should definitely pre book , everything was sold out when we got ours

I really like birds hence all the bird photos. Got a good 5 hour trip out of it, going as 3 young adults and had a great time! There's nothing good to eat, so bring your own food if you have any standards. Thankfully coffee is at least in good supply. Good amount of animals though no Bush dog - which is odd, as they were prominent on the website. Many animals will be hiding so do not think you are guaranteed to see anything, especially the big cats and birds. We could only see the jaguar as the others were hiding.

We visited here as part of the teachers go free promotion. We were really pleased to visit as a family of 4 for free as we are both teachers and we had a guest each too. Beautiful day and the animals were lovely and out and about. We arrived at 10.15am and the parking was a bit crazy, with stewards directing some cars to park on grass verges and not even go to the marked car parks. Not sure how they decided who goes on the verges and who continues on but not a big issue. Park was busy but we got to see everything we wanted to. Shop is always super busy as such a lot of merchandise in a fairly small shop. Overall a lovely day, my tip is there's lots of shade to sit in near Tapirs just beyond the wet and wild play area.

Fab day out for young kids. Nice size and good value for money. Gruffalo discovery is a great addition but lots of bits weren't working which was a shame. Went with the offer of buy a day and go again for 12 months, looking forward to going back.

First visit to Twycross zoo and I wasn't expecting much due to reading loads of bad reviews on different sites. I was presently surprised we had a Nice day out, took around 3/4 hours & the layout of the zoo is nicely done, has a map you can easily follow.. Plenty of things for children todo while walking around the zoo.. sand play, water play, 2 climbing frames, plenty of opportunity's to take some pic's in Animal cut out boards. on the day we when there was loads of little tents up & the kids had to collect all the stamps to get a winner sticker before heading home. The Gruffalo discovery land was lovely was nice to walk through following the story with interactive sections the kids favourite bit of the zoo My kids Even got to have a picture with the gruffalo. It's a nice zoo I would recommend people to visit if not yet done. But i know its the six weeks holiday with schools been off so I did expect some crowds but i feel So many people got let in to the zoo at the same time you couldn't really take your time going around as you felt like you was getting bumped into and rushed. i felt like i spent most of my time making sure my childen was safe and we wasn't separated which was stressful. (*On other reviews People say many enclosures was empty and animals looks unhappy with small enclosures..) I think most animals was on view however there was still plenty empty which we didn't get to see. All animals looked well looked after & happy. Enclosures was okay sized for most animals. Also Food is a tad expensive around the zoo definitely the fish and chips sit in restaurant was overpriced and in my opinion wasn't the best tasting. Advice for your visit, try a less busy time but i think many people are using there 12 months pass which is making it extra busy & don't forget a picnic 😉 and if you have young children and they will want to have a splash in water take a swimming costume or change of clothes.

Wonderful zoo, lots to do for kids of all ages. Our 1 year old LOVED the Grufallo walk through & plenty of animals for everyone to enjoy. We preferred the outside enclosures more but understand it can't all be like that. The zoo must be doing a lot of important conservation work. 🐼 We weren't aware of the water area, but that looked very fun for the little ones too. All in all, a great day out, would recommend for the whole family & worth travelling a short distance for. Plenty of parking, a number of places to eat & the restaurant/café we picked was very accommodating for a gluten-free meal. 5/5

Lovely zoo with loads of different activities for all ages. The animals are easy to see. Snow leopard often lazing by the window near the coffee shop! Soft play, feed the parakeets, gruffalo story walk-through with statues and music. Sand pit, play areas, and a wet play area with fountains.

Twycross zoo is a lovely place to visit there's the gruffly trail which is very true to the story with activities to do. There's a park area in this section too and a shop. Within the zoo section theirs parks and activities to do also. The animals appear to be looked after and was feeding at times. Staff were very knowledgeable about the animals and the site. There's a lot to do and a great day out. There's a shop at the end and a soft play also. We took a picnic with us and there was plenty of places to eat. There's food restaurants around. Excellent day out can't wait for the next visit.

Twinned with the well known Chester Zoo, this park offers a range of viewing areas and opportunities to get close to animals. Also offers a separate cost soft play area and cafe. Costs for food and drink are higher, but to be expected within the environment of an attraction. The zoo facilities are clean and well maintained, although the customer service from the customer facing staff within the cafe area could be improved. Tickets should be purchased ahead, online. It is a good offer that the ticket allows for admission for a full year.
