I really like this zoo, I've always had a good time here. They've done a good job of expanding their enclosures to give the animals more space and a more natural environment, while also increasing visibility. I really enjoy the African Safari and their Rocky Shores areas. We had a good time and the kids loved it. Unfortunately all of their water fountains are shut off right now, so make sure to bring your own.

What a great zoo! It's on the small side but still has lots of larger animals - bears, big cats, rhinos, elephants, and giraffes. It takes some wandering to see everything. The entrance is at the top and the rest of the park is downhill to the right with a portion higher up on the other side of a creek. I might recommend skirting the African Savannah to do the back path first and down to the Asian animals, make sure to hit the small animal building, then towards the street and the bears & seals, then work your way back uphill. Or, structure your day around the day's keeper talks - I managed to just miss all of them! The seal & sea lion training would have been great to see. The train wasn't going during my visit and they are constructing a new "wild Utah" area that the train will circle, so that looks like it will be really nice when it opens. There's a fun carousel that costs $3 per ride and plays pop music (like "you spin me right round baby") and a decent cafe with friendly staff, though there are plenty of better places to eat outside the zoo and nearby. The gift shop is large and fun, in all, it's a great experience!

This is a really great zoo, what a wonderful place for a day visit for the family. Public areas are nice and clean restrooms are clean gift shop is fun. Animals look really well taken care of in their enclosures. nice looking, clean, animals roaming around playful which is always a great sign. Nothing too out of the ordinary or more interesting than others but is still a really great place to spend the day.

I didn't have the best time. I love zoos but this one was lacking. Other reviews say they spent hours here. We got in and out in less than 40 minutes and we saw every exhibit. Most of the animals were asleep or not available. The train is under construction. The food establishments only two were open and didn't have much of a selection of items. I think this place maybe great for children to experience but as an adult, with zoo experiences nationwide, it left me wanting more. We were supposed to be able to feed the giraffes according to the website but there was no area which you could do this. Anyway, did get some photos of the wildlife. So it wasn't totally a waste. Cost us $20+ I think it was $24 but we got tickets online and saved a little. Oh I went in September and the two elephants were being relocated with a few weeks of our visit. Not sure if they are getting new ones but they only had two.

Great place to spend time with the kids, fun and educational, first time coming here and had a great time, FYI you do have to purchase additional tickets to ride the train and the carousel, this is not included in the general admission, i did not know this and there were no signs at the line that said i needed tickets to ride them or atleast we didn't notice any. We didn't get any maps of the zoo at the entrance and we did not see any map stations for guide near the main entrance, we purchased our tickets online. The food was good and over all the experience was good, but they have plenty of room for improvements. I was confused at the carousel, some parents with their child were let in to ride with only 1 ticket and others including me had to use 2 tickets, same scenario 1 kid 1 parent', not sure why?, i even asked the operator if i had to use 1 ticket or 2 and she just took both my tickets, its the small details that make a big difference on your experience.

Since 1931 Hogle Zoo is a fantastic zoo. Great exhibits with some very rare animals. Plan on lots of walking with hills as well. For the most part it is handicapped equipped and friendly as well. Took my youngest grand daughters and they had so much fun!

Still a good zoo for being on the smaller side. Tons of unique animals and for the most part, visible during our visit. It was extremely hot, 100 degrees, so many opted for the shade and just lying around. A nice touch for visitors was the many mist fans spread around the zoo. Few comments: $3 dollars per person for the train is more than it is worth. When it gets renovated, this may be a fair price, until then, charge a $1 or make it free. Outside the first 200 meters on the train, there is nothing to see. The reptile, small animal exhibit was under construction i think. It never explicitly said. For my military people, no discount, however, you can save $2 dollars per person if booked online. Only know this because the lady next to me purchasing tickets was told this by the ticketing employee. Our ticketing girl did not offer up this information to us.

We always stop at zoos whenever we travel. This has to be close to the best zoo we have ever visited. The zoo was very clean and well cared for. The animals has plenty of room to roam which is not always the case with zoos. It's very disheartening when you see animals in small enclosures but this was not the case here. The animals also had a lot of clean flowing water which you also don't see at every zoo. This zoo was also quite big. When we looked at the website it look small but we where surprised when that was not the case. The Red Panda exhibit was our favorite along with the 2 Harbor Seals and 2 California Sea Lions. We highly recommend that every at this zoo to their to do list when in Salt Lake City.

We love our zoo! We had a great time in July with the kids and sure wore them out. Lol. We had good appearances from the animals and got to spend good time with them up close! The lion drinking fountain is iconic. There is also a small playground there. We were able to get drinks from the bistro. Such a wonderful place!

  • 5/5 Diane C. 2 years ago on Google
Very cold and snowy, yet the paths were clear and the crowd non-existent, so we had a great time! We saw zebras, lionesses sunning, monkeys with babies, elephants, seals and sea lions (best part), otters, a polar bear, bald eagles, a tiger prowling, another growling, a leopard, gorillas and orangutans, a red panda, snakes, bats, tortoises, a crocodile, fowls, cats, and porcupines. We didn't eat there. The gift shop had a lot of toys. The carousel was fun to watch.

We go here once a year for my son's birthday. It's a lovely zoo! The animals seem happy, or at least content, and the enclosures/habitats provide enrichment. Feeding the giraffes was a really fun experience too! I highly recommend bringing your own food and drinks, because the stuff in the park is very overpriced.

Take advantage of the Wild Weekdays during Nov. and Dec. to visit the zoo. The crowds are small and you can take more time to enjoy the sights, dress warm. The carousel was open, but the train was closed for the season. Although it is a smaller zoo, Hogle is making attempts to diversify and offer learning experiences, it has an expansion under construction.

Love this zoo. So fun, and the new exhibits are excellent. They have an Elephant demonstration at 10:30 and seal and sea lion at 11:00. So fun! Lots of places to get food and snacks in the zoo and lots of places to stop and eat it. The train is $5, and the carousel is $2.50. You can also feed the giraffe for $5. The gift shop is fun with art pained by the animals for sale! Super kid-friendly and family friendly, but you can enjoy as an adult too. The morning is the best time to go.

We absolutely enjoyed our day at the zoo. We went on a Tuesday morning/afternoon and it was not crowded at all. Hardly lines for concessions, no lines to get it, no lines at the gift shop. And every single staff member I encountered was so pleasant and helpful. The animals were awesome as well. It had been years since the last time I visited and the improvements and additions were excellent. My favorite was the building with the seals and polar bears. Very cool. I would completely recommend visiting and if I lived within visiting distance, I would be looking into season passes.

We really enjoyed our time here at the zoo. I gave it 4 stars instead of five was because it was full of kids on a field trip. I wish there was a way we could of known that schools were shipping in hundreds of kids before we went that day. 😂 The second thing was that the train was closed. We we’re hoping to take our baby on it since it was her first time at the zoo. It’s closed until 2024. :/

We called and asked when the carousel would be open and planned a family trip for my daughter’s fourth birthday to ride it and to see the animals. When we got there, she was so sad to see that the carousel was not open. We called and asked why it wasn’t running, and they explained it was so slow they just didn’t have the man power to run it. My husband explained it was our daughter’s birthday and the man came down right away and turned it on and let her ride a few times before turning it back off again. It made me pretty teary to know that they went out of their way to give my daughter the birthday she wanted. With everything happening in the world, it’s truly an inconsequential thing, but it really, honestly made her birthday such a special and amazing day. And we will not forget this kindness any time soon. Hogle Zoo is always one of our favorites. We love slow, winter days. But this has forever cemented it as one of our all time favorite places to come. We’re so grateful for you guys for being the amazing, caring place that went out of your way to help out my kid - especially when it would’ve been so easy to just say no. Thank you!!

We paid for expensive tickets with the assurance there were limited time slots for covid restrictions. We wore masks as they said was required. We showed up and about half of the people there were not wearing masks, nobody was social distancing. You couldn't even get a picture without becoming surrounded by multiple families. Will not be returning anytime soon.

Fantastic zoo. Flew here from Denver. This would be in my top 5 favorites. Yes, I've been to a lot of zoos. I have a lot more to get to. It is so beautiful in it's location. To see the beauty in the zoo and the mountains that surround the zoo. The animals were active and we got to see plenty of them. Food was kind of expensive. Definitely a good zoo to come to.

The zoo is not massive but it does have beautiful animals. It will take 1-1.5 hrs to complete the zoo... It has some animal shows scheduled at various times. There is a train ride and Mary go round inside the zoo. The zoo souvenir store is pretty nice.

loved the Zoo. they had some good shows that were time coordinated so that you are not running from 1 to another. the dog show was awesome followed by the elephant show and giraffe feeding. they have a little splash pad to keep the kids cool. their indoor exhibits do get extremely crowded.

I decided to take an afternoon to go to the local zoo. It was relative cheap at $20. You can purchase tickets before you arrive online for cheaper. The zoo was really great. There was a ton of activities throughout the zoo. You can feed the giraffes and elephants for an additional cost. They were feeding monkeys. They did a seal show. The only downside to this zoo was its on the side of hill which makes it a little harder to get to some animals, all ADA accessible.

My family had an awesome time! I haven’t been here since a field trip WAY back when in elementary, now I decided to take my almost 2 year old - he loved it! The entry price seemed very reasonable. It was cloudy and rainy when we went so the animals were more active, there were very few people, and it was much cooler which was great. Everything seemed clean, everyone was friendly, and we just had a good time. The splash pad was also wonderful for that mid-day break. My one complaint may be the food just wasn’t very good, I mean, it’s exactly as expected and tastes like theme park food, which is to say not great.

The day we visited it was hot so a lot of animals weren't active. There were tons of baby animals which are always cute and fun to watch. We fed the elephant, which is an additional cost, but worth it for the once in a lifetime opportunity. The train wasn't working when we went which was disappointing. The enclosures were decent sized. I liked how they had the giraffes and zebras sharing an enclosure. I definitely recommend trying the pretzel if you go. It was so good. The hamburgers were dry and overpriced.

Hogle zoo has been greatly improved recently. Definitely worth a new visit. Arrive at 9am sharp to avoid the heat and crowds. On an overcast day the animals will be out and active. Three or four hours is enough to see all the exhibits. Highly recommend.

Definitely recommend purchasing tickets online in advance, you will get a discounted price. We arrived right when they opened, so no wait time and very light traffic in and around the zoo at first. They have a larger sized parking lot. Very toddler friendly. We enjoyed watching the male polar bear swim laps and got to watch staff feed the bobcat and made a scavenger hunt with its food. Unable to ride the train as it was closed for construction. Our 2yr old enjoyed riding the carousel- you do have to purchase a separate ticket for this, the kiosk is located near it. Enjoyed looking through the gift shop for souvenirs.

Going to the zoo was very fun! We got our tickets for 5 dollars each. As we entered we got to see most of the animals. A lot of them were being active too! The only sad part was the elephants being gone, but it was fun watching the gorillas interact with little kids. Great experience for me.

I’m not against keeping exotics, but the the enclosures are too small to allow some of these animals any exercise and enrichment. I saw the fox in the small animals building, most lizards of a similar size would do great in that enclosure, but foxes have a higher metabolism and are 10 times as active and need at least double the space. I noticed that the sulcata has some pyramiding on it’s shell, Look into how much UVB light and calcium you’r giving your reptiles and amphibians. I am begging you to take some advice from the living planet aquarium.

Went on a "slow day" according to lady at ticket gate and it was amazing! You're able to get pretty close to animals with the way they set up thier exhibits. Zoo is on the smaller side but their layout is great, you dont have to walk a long ways between exhibits but nothing feels crammed together either. Right at the entrance they had a sign displaying times and locations of events for the day. Plenty of misting spots to help keep cool on hot days - was about 90F when I went. They do have opportunities to feed animals as well for an extra cost - giraffes and rhinos were options when I went, and there are times of the year they offer elephant feedings as well

Fantastic experience! I've never been to a zoo before and this was a great first one. Their Wednesday reduced prices are great ($5 online, &7 in person). I went in winter and a lot of animals were out of their dens and on the heated sidewalks. It unfortunately snowed several inches that morning so a couple of animals were inside, but overall their winter adjustments are very effective. Definitely recommend if you're nearby!

For it being the only real Zoo in Salt Lake, it's not too bad. They have done a lot of upgrading over the years and are still working on expanding. There are many educational interactives along the way. The staff is very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Consessions are more on the pricey side, but usually worth it. The weekends tend to get pretty busy, but lines move fast. I would recommend making a trip there. My family and I will definitely be back!

It's definitely a nice little zoo. We enjoyed our time here and spent a solid 3-4 hours here exploring all the exhibits and seeing the animals. Sadly, a good number of the animals were hiding or sleeping, but there is nothing you can do about that. I would recommend checking it out if you are in the area. It was also pretty busy for a weekday. I guess, it is summer so it was expected to see a lot of housewives and kids.

A nice zoo very kidsfriendly. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Recommend to buy tickets beforehand and you save 2 dollars when purchase online. We came around 1pm during the weekend and it was a bit difficult to find a parking spot but we finally did. Parking is free. It was a hot summer day mid August. I would recommend coming earlier. Preferably opening. We were there for 3-4 hours. You won't need to spend longer.

Having been to the Denver, CO Zoo, I did not expect this zoo to be very good or big, but honestly it blew the Denver Zoo out of the water! It took 3 hours (without children) to see everything in the zoo, and we saw everything! The enclosures were well maintained and clean, and all the animals seemed happy and energetic, which was a compete 180 from the Denver zoo!! We were able to get really close to all the animals (with glass between us) and got several great photos and videos, and all for just $14 for 2 adults!! I would highly recommend the Hogle Zoo if you are in the area, it was an absolute pleasure!!!

The zoo is good, if a bit pricey. Figure roughly $20 per person (kids a bit less, adults a bit more; under 3 are free). They do have free days but it's usually packed. I miss the elephant exhibit.

I love the wild weekdays rather than free day. It costs a little, but isn't as crowded so much more fun! Having it spread out makes it easier to find a time my now adult "kids" can go as well. We went to free days when they were little and it was a mad house! It was the only time I could afford to take them back then, especially as a single mom, so I still appreciated the opportunity! It was fun to have them reminisce as we took pictures in front of various photo op locations that we did when they were little. The animals were very active while we were there which was an added bonus! The polar bear was doing laps which was awesome! The sea lions are always fun to watch. Giraffes and emus monkeys and lemurs. The meerkats were especially cute this time! The lions and tigers were both being noisy which was really cool! The porcupines were actually awake for a change. Fighting over one plate of dinner like human siblings when there was a another plate untouched ! We miss the elephants, hippos, camels, penguins and other Animals that used to be there that are no longer on exhibit. I always think about Shasta the liger and wish they would bring her back. I would love the wax figurines that you could make in the machines. My husband and I made one when we were in Seattle and the smell of the hot wax took us back to childhood!

Our Covid-19 trip to the zoo was probably our best experience even though it was cold (December) You buy your tickets for a specific time and they limit the number of people in the zoo. We weren't fighting crowds to see the exhibits and it was easier to keep track of the kids.

  • 5/5 Gabby S. 3 years ago on Google
Awesome zoo. The animals look well cared for and happy. I have been to other zoo's where you can't help but feel sorry for the animals.

This is a cute little zoo! They have beautiful animals and a fun train ride and carousel. The staff were very helpful and wanted to make sure you had a great experience. Especially when the tigers are playing hide and seek, so you can't spot them easily. It can get warm so if you are a tourist like me, make sure to bring water and sunscreen.

  • 5/5 Matt H. 3 years ago on Google
Fantastic! I have kids all under age 8; they enjoyed it, we enjoyed it. Great variety of wildlife. They must have known we were coming and because all the animals decided to come out. Considering COVID19, this was really a great place, not over packed but still being frequented. Highly recommend! Only disappointment was the train ride. Ride quality was nice but duration was very lacking! I mean big time. By the time we felt settled into our seats the ride was concluding. The last segment was all on historical items vs. (And i add emphasis here, Hogle Zoo i hope you read this) showing more of the park. People go to a zoo to be transported to some place they've never been and have only dreamed about as a child. I don't know about other folks but I have generally passed by the "non Zoo" related items and get to the meat of why I paid to get in. Until Hogle decides to up the "Ante" on the train ride and make it longer and more engaging: save your money on this aspect.

  • 5/5 Abhishek A. 3 years ago on Google
Great experience for families and individuals. You can spead anywhere from 1-4 hours there. This is with a lot of buildings still shut from COVID, there are still plenty of exhibits that interest and excite you.

This is a nice zoo that's clean and well kept. We went during October 2020, so there weren't that many people there which was great. When we checked in the person at the front was great and advised everyone to wear mass. Unfortunately there are still people that didn't wear them even inside places that required them. The only downside is the train ride. It is so short and was only about 2 minutes long. We expected it to take us through the entire zoo, but that wasn't the case. Overall a nice zoo.

This place is amazing to go on family outings, dates etc. They have quite a variety of beautiful exotic animals and events for everyone to enjoy. I love the developments they've made to the Zoo over the years it's great that there's still a place were I went as a child that I can bring my family to.

Nice zoo. Well kept very clean. It’s just that the community animals like zebra, ostrich, boars and elephants look very sad. They look healthy and well taken care of. I believe they will be happy if they are free but they won’t get the care and attention they get here. Don’t know how the African savannah animals feel when it snows. I am sure they are not wild rather brought up somewhere here. Other than that, human amenities like parking, toilets and food are arranged very well. It’s worth one visit with friends and family especially if you have kids. I found the lion seals the only animal that are interactive. Definitely spend sometime there. The kids will love it.

It was fabulous. Very clean, not crowded and masks are required for everyone's safety.

  • 5/5 Clarissa P. 3 years ago on Google
They are doing a good job of keeping it safe during the pandemic. Everyone has to wear masks at all times. There are arrows to show you the flow of traffic and dots in high congestion areas to show you where to stand to keep 6 feet apart. The animals are all out and active despite the cold because it is so quiet.

  • 5/5 Windy A. 3 years ago on Google
Winter is the best time to go. The weather is perfect. The animals are out and about. There is hardly anybody there. The girl in the gorilla and orangutan encounter was annoying. We miss the wolves and giraffes. Thank you!

My family loves the zoo! This zoo is smaller but the perfect size. A lot of people can do the zoo in a few hours but we can spend the whole day here. Most every animal is located conveniently. They have improved so many of the habits over the last 30 years that it is such a different zoo from when I was a kid. My family loves the different decorations for each season. The zoo pass/season pass is very reasonable. We love to visit zoos when we travel but this zoo is still so much fun to come too.

My family has been coming to Hogle Zoo for years. We absolutely love it. I am not a big fan of zoos and these days, many zoos get a bad rap. But at Hogle Zoo you will be happy to know that the animals have large spaces to roam around in and that they live and breed in a safe environment. I recommend you come and see for yourself how well treated the animals are and how professional the zookeepers are. My family comes to Hogle Zoo year-round. Our favorite time to visit is winter. The crowds are smaller and the animals are more active. But don't expect to see any hibernating animals (like bears) because...well, they are hibernating! Just one more reason to come back in the Spring!

We've been going to Hogle Zoo for years. It's anyways a fun experience. My kids are older now but still love it. It seems we learn something new about a different animal each time. The variety of animals is excellent for what the Utah climate allows. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! The exhibits are good, animals have lots of open spaces, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. My one reason for knocking off a star is overall cleanliness. Particularly during the current pandemic, I didn't see any staff member cleaning anything during our 2 hour visit. Maybe we just missed them but i kind of expected to see multiple staff members around the more popular areas and high touch point exhibits doing at least a quick window or railing sanitizing. There are signs posted indicating what gets touched the most and fun signs with animals asking visitors to stay six feet apart. I just didn't see any actual cleaning. Overall we love the zoo and I'm sure we'll go back many times more.

Great place to be, and a great atmosphere for dates and family outings. They have done a really great job at bettering the animal encampments and face lifting the customer experience. It still has a few things that could be improved and animal variety, but that will come with time as the zoo continues to grow. I hope they bring the bird show back soon, it was one of my favorite events to go to.

This is one of the treasured gems of Salt Lake City. The facility is super clean and maintained. The animals all seem to be well cared for and managed. The staff are fairly friendly except for one person who was rude to me today but the team leads seem to be receptive when I reported. The zoo has taken great measures to ensure public safety during the Covid pandemic. I’ve been coming for years and have appreciated coming here now more that I have a toddler. I highly recommend and will be back.

  • 5/5 Zertus26 3 years ago on Google
The family loves this place. We joined as member which gives us entry access for the family for a whole year. For a large family like mine it only takes 2 to 3 visits in a year and we have made money on the deal from normal admission prices. Having that membership also makes quick trips to the zoo easier because we can see some of the animals and don't have to see every animal every time. Makes for easy to plan quick day activity for the family. Right now during covid you do need to get time sloted tickets on line

  • 5/5 Katrina L. 3 years ago on Google
They clearly care about the animals and the goal of conservation of species here. Beyond that, we had a great time, despite the Covid-19 restrictions and cold rain. Will definitely be going back this summer!

The zoo needs to clean up after the predators. Kids don't need too see prey animal parts strewn everywhere after feeding time. I understand they are predatory animals and it is part of nature, but as they are in a visited cage, I don't want to see their left overs, and I don't think most kids do, either. Other zoos I have been to seem much more considerate of this.

We love coming to this zoo. It's hit and miss with the animals because they look annoyed🤣 Carousel and Train rides are fun and not expensive! People were not very cautious of covid (not 6 feet apart) but the zoo had many reminders and did their very best to enforce cdc guidelines. Our favorite part were the 🦭seals and how they did tricks. Asian highlands is amazing(tigers and exotic animals). I wish they had koalas and panda bears! It took us about 2.5 hours to see everything and do the rides. Overall it was a great time!!

We enjoyed our trip. It wasn't too crowded, so we enjoyed being able to spend more time at each exhibit and not worry add much about getting in the way. There are multiple view points for animals. You can bring in food and there are picnic tables and benches around. The bathrooms were clean. There aren't very many completely indoor areas. It was pretty chilly when we came. Check the weather beforehand and come prepared.

pretty disappointed with this zoo. I am echoing what a lot of others had said in these main points: The animals are depressed. They do not have nearly enough space compared to so many other AZA zoos which I have visited. The only animals that did not look depressed were the sea lions and otters. Their facilities are... okay? and I felt bad for most of the animals. A lot of exhibits also had little to no enrichment. Worst of all was that in March (45 degrees) THE AFRICAN ANIMALS WERE OUTSIDE?? They were so obviously cold and clearly evolution did not lead them to be able to adapt to cold weather. They looked the most depressed of all. Most AZA zoos keep their warmer climate animals inside until it is averaging at least 65 degrees. African animals also didn't have an ounce of grass/savannah and were rolling in mud (zebras, lions, elephants, etc.)... so sad. Management and customer service is awful. I was in a very good mood before I made my phone call to be told by a rude receptionist (Jane or Jade maybe?) that my out of state AZA membership from another zoo isn't good. I would have to go in person to try and buy a ticket which is impossible since you have to reserve tickets?? It is really scummy not to mention this zoo is a lot more expensive than other WAY NICER AZA zoos in pricier areas (at least in terms of memberships... oh yeah, and visiting the zoo during zoo lights isn't included with a membership for no reason?) The facilities are sad. This zoo clearly is smaller than other zoos but it is still way too cramped and crowded even during COVID when there is a "limited capacity" of people allowed in. Walkways are narrow and animal habitats are shabby. oh yeah, and every single hand sanitizer dispenser was empty, but plenty of social distancing signs (that everyone ignored and the staff did not enforce) to keep the COVID away! I have never been to a zoo and felt disappointed and sorry for most of the animals there until Hogle zoo. I would not recommend wasting your money here. Honestly have no idea who gave them AZA accreditation. I recommend the Aquarium in Draper instead. Much nicer.

Such a fun place to visit with the family! The zoo is week organized so you don't have to do a lot of backtracking to see everything. There are a variety of animals and they all look well taken care of. Throughout the day they do various shows which are both fun and informative.

  • 5/5 Anthony D. 2 years ago on Google
Grab a family membership and this place is an awesome place to go for an afternoon anytime during the year. In fact, our family's favorite time is to go in late fall or early spring, or even in the middle of winter. None of the services are open, but many of the animals are out, and the crowds are minimal. Getting a membership means that we don't feel guilty about just coming and spending an hour or two when we can't see the whole zoo. Staff are always really helpful, especially those who take care of the animals. They're always willing to stop and talk for a minute when we have questions.

  • 5/5 Morgan A. 2 years ago on Google
It is a super fun zoo. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking and hills. It is 20 dollars for an adult and 15 for a child. 2 and under is free. They have a Africa section, wild cats, bears, polar bear, seals, and reptiles and bugs. My kids loved it.

  • 4/5 shadowmagexl 2 years ago on Google
Overall good visit. Went early not all features/exhibits open but certainly enough to keep the little ones entertained for a few hours. Gift shop prices were the same you'd expect at Disneyland or some other major park. Zoo has several areas for kids to play and a few rides for a dollars per ticket. The entire park had lights and decorations which we couldn't experience due to going in the morning.

A great little zoo and a beautiful location. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it's never disappointed. Lots of fun animals to look at, and also lots of fun activities for the kids. There are plenty of restaurants and attractions, as well as stores stuffed with everything a kid could ask for. There's also a little splash pad which is very fun in the summer.

Came here for zoo lights and it was not great. The parking lot was sheer chaos, like worse than Costco. The staff wasn't able to direct the crowd to the fact that there were three lines for ticket holders to go through so more chaos. Not a great experience.

Fun place to go with the kids. Some of the exhibits are empty and I'm not sure if this is due to winter or always like this. The monkeys, gorilla and polar bear make it great. We went on a Thursday morning and only saw a handful of other visitors.

I love this zoo & hearing the lions roar. Elephants, giraffes, polar bears, reptiles, and more! The Colobus Monkeys don’t have thumbs. Remember that. The staff & security here are very responsive & very helpful. The parking lot is very safe & secure. The lines are only busy at certain times, mainly the opening of the day. Traffic isn’t bad, but parking can be a bit of a walk on the weekends. Not far though, worse case scenario, you’ll have to park in the overflow across the street. Make sure to take notice of the RATTLESNAKE warning signage. Also, a venomous snake will have cat eyes, non-venomous circular pupils. Venom is injected, poison is ingested. The more you know🌠

  • 5/5 MrDeathBeltway 1 year ago on Google
Haven't been here since I was in high school, after I graduated I was determined to make sure I took my kid to the zoo whenever I finally became a parent. Well, finally took my son here for his very first trip to the zoo and it was very memorable. He kept looking at the animals and would smile, I am planning on bringing him back again when he gets a bit older. Time was saved when I purchased our tickets online, so that part I highly recommend.

Went for the first time in 10 years with my nephew and it is so much nicer! The facilities are great and the new African exhibit was great. Even in the middle of the day when most animals weren’t very active the polar bear and sea lions were putting on a show

  • 3/5 Bella P. 10 months ago on Google
It was overly crowded, train ride was closed for construction, price of the food and gift shops was overly expensive, no vegan options for food, (except pretzels and tea), and the enclosures for most of the animals are too small. Crocodile looked depressed AF in that tiny pool. A lot of the animals weren't even there (tortoises, wolves, foxes, and some other animals). However, I'm happy that the Giraffes & Bears have decent sized enclosures. Also free that poor Magpie.... he was better off as that person's pet than being unable to fly in that tiny cage.... I'm glad that the elephants are being located to a bigger elephant herd with more room... also, the leopard was pacing back and forth a lot... poor guy doesn't have much room to be a cat. Tigers and lions were napping when we were there. This zoo is still a million times better and more ethical than the horrible and disgusting Lagoon "zoo" train ride.... at least the animals are the Hogle Zoo have some natural terrain and aren't forced into a tiny concrete 100 square foot box... On a good note, the dog show was amazing at 3pm. That made the trip to the zoo worth it. Spice & Jason were such cute dogs. (Also the other dogs too, but I forgot their names.) Also, the zoo is a great place to get a leg workout lol... Lots of steep hills and very hot weather. It was great to get my steps in. Some of the picnic areas and the bridge were very beautiful with all the greenery. I also loved the rushing river and waterfall.

Great weekend activity to tucker out the whole family! You can walk around for hours we went from 10am-1 pm and most of the animals were awake and we even caught a lion feeding and dog show. The food isn't too badly priced either, maybe $9-$10 a person for a burger and kids meals were about $5-$6. The kiddo loved the carousel, brown bears, and lions! It's a little pricy to get it but if you catch a few shows and visit the reptile exhibit it's totally worth it.

  • 5/5 Meggan Y. 7 months ago on Google
Had a fun time here. Not too many exhibits but the animals are so great. The carousel was a little pricey for one ride and the food was pricey as well. Going to miss the elephants here but hopefully it’ll be good for them and the zoo. Favorite animal was definitely the seals. They seem to enjoy putting on a show with their swimming.
