I really enjoyed my time at this zoo. I would say it’s a medium size zoo with lots of engaging exhibits. I saw so many animals out. I loved all the fish in water exhibits, which was throughout the zoo. Pretty impressive bird collection. So many kid friendly areas and lots of restrooms peppered throughout. I’ve been to lots of zoos throughout the US and this has to be in my top 3!

Good zoo. I really enjoyed how it's set up. We went during a cold day so there was some things we didn't get to see but it was nice having the dinosaur's out around the zoo. Good variety of animals. Also my kids got to ride on a camel which was pretty fun for them. A bit pricey but they enjoyed it so I'm a happy parent.

This zoo is a bit pricey. If staying here for any length of time, get a membership and visit at least 3 times to get your money's worth. The food inside was way too expensive as well. And almost no good food alternatives for the carnivore diet. There was a decent amount of animals up and moving around to make the experience worth while. In the past almost every critter was sleeping.

Prices are not bad if you want to buy membership and get a year. It definitely pays if you have time to go for just an hour or two during weekdays. Weekends and holidays are VERY BUSY. So busy, you will have a very hard time finding parking despite numerous lots. The exhibits are decent. It is a bit disappointing to see how small some enclosures are considering the size of the animals. Some exhibits are empty, so it would only make sense to expand the areas for better quality of life and perhaps better to watch the animals. There is quite a variety, so there is plenty to see throughout the entire zoo. Staff always seems to be fairly friendly. They hold lots of events and such ao that too is nice for community. They are a bit weird on ages/grades for camps, but, at least, they are available for some. Definitely plan on going several times if you want to get the full idea of what all animals can be seen.

I’d rate this a 4.25 if it wasn’t for QR ticket system. Overall I had a great experience. They are currently doing a lot of minor reconstruction inside the park. There are a few spots inside the park you have to pay separately to enter. I was very impressed there was minimal foot traffic on a busy day. I’m not a zoologist but the animals seemed to be well kept and well fed. The park does a great job utilizing their authorized space to house these wonderful creatures. The ticket QR code purchasing process is pathetic, creates random clusters of crowds blocking the gates, and takes more time. In no way is this system more convenient for the majority of people. FUN FACT!! The zoo charges you $5 for a mandatory “convenience” fee at checkout. If you work for the zoo and you’re reading this, please go back to selling tickets the old way or utilize both ways so you customers have options. If the zoo is charging a $5 fee because the business genuinely needs to, I get it. Just factor that into the cost of advertised admission instead of adding it at checkout last second.

Great local zoo. Not huge in size, but lots of personality and they work the exhibits into the landscape. Animals are well taken care of. Pro tip, come right when the zoo opens - got here at open and had over an hour with almost no one else in the park!

Came on this vacation to check out local animal sanctuaries and get a few experiences in with wild animals. The San Antonio Zoo shows a lot of love with its exhibit design. The terrariums are well-designed and the animals seem pretty content where they are. The animals have places where they can hide if they're stressed, which may irritate some zoo-goers, but I'm glad that the Zoo gave them that. Some of the birds are also just hanging around freely within the park! The cool zones were all really neat, and a nice way to get out of the heat. I went through the entire zoo twice in about 3 or 4 hours, which I feel is a nice size for a zoo. If I didn't see an animal in the first walk through, I saw them in the second. I also fed the birds! It was an absolute joy!

We took our granddaughter to the zoo and we had a fun and good time. Tickets are easy to buy digitally. There is no wait to enter the zoo. The layout of the zoo is easy to follow. Lots of animals and education to see and learn. The staff is helpful and friendly.

Zoo Lights is a great Christmas event for children. I took my grandson and he loved it. The weather was so nice 72 degrees and almost all animals were out for viewing. We rode the train and then later walked the Park to view all of the lights. They even had snow machines. Bring your wallet as everything is a bit pricey.

The San Antonio Zoo is a great place to spend good quality time with your family. The zoo is going through some renovations and some parts are not finished and there are a few empty animal cells that you will see. I hope the renovations won’t last too long. The zoo is fairly big and it can get pretty hot outside since there are sections of the park that are not shaded. Make sure that you take a good sun-blocking hat or cap and light clothing. You will be walking quite a bit so have some comfortable shoes as well. The zoo has a great place to look at the hippopotamus and rhinoceros. These animals are majestic and great to watch. The feeding time for the rhinoceros change often so check with the zoo keepers, but definitely is worth watching. Another great section to visit is the butterfly room. It’s located across the 4D movie theater next to the tiny tot nature spot. It costs $4 dollars per person but it’s worth it.

love the San Antonio zoo!! Any time we are able to escape from reality (work life) We head out to the zoo. They seem to always have something different. Wether it’s a new add on or events for family and friends. But over all great experience and fun time. Greatly appreciate all the workers there who make it better. Always clean and friendly. LOVE locals day too!! Highly recommend feeding the giraffes and stopping by and pet the kangaroos 🦘

Wow! This is a beautifully laid out zoo with thoughtful nooks and crannies to explore throughout. The landscape is meticulously groomed and worth the admission alone as a botanical garden. This is not a place you want to rush, but take your time and savor each exhibit marveling at the design and attention to detail. My 3 and 12-year-old loved it. Our family loved the fact that the zoo really caters to young kids. All the exhibits seemed to keep the youngsters in mind while providing special covered play areas to chill, play in a stream, and eat lunch. This is what we did since our lunch was included in the price. Our ravenous family of four was able to get admission tickets, lunch (very good chicken strips), drinks, and a refill souvenir cup for 100 bucks. Add another 50 bucks for miscellaneous stuff for the kids and you have a great experience. I highly recommend if you are considering a trip to San Antonio to put this spot on your must-see list. What a fantastic zoo and value for the price.

Worst zoo I've ever been to anywhere. Overpriced even for a zoo, money goes into their new entrance and not the animals or guest experience. Pay for a ticket or membership like I did, to still have exhibits blocked behind yet another ticket you have to buy. I have a membership that I will be canceling for multiple reasons. We have gone multiple times a month and still haven't seen all of the animals. Simply because their habitats are so bad, the animals would rather stay inside than be out in their overgrown, rundown forgotten enclosures. The pathways are so old and worn down that they are extremely unsafe. Going uphill by the rhinos, the hill is so bad that it has many trip hazards on the ramp, sharp 2" inch concrete protruding by underground access in the middle of this ramp. Making almost impassable by strollers and impossible for anyone by themselves in a wheelchair. The other hill close to the concession stand is almost a 40-degree ramp about 20 feet long with broken concrete and metal slip strips to try to help with the incline. All the walkways are rough. These just stand out and are serious hazards. Exhibits look like that one house in the neighborhood that hasn't cut their grass in years. Seriously, the exhibits are horrible and not maintained. It's sad to have animals living in there. Lions and Tigers exhibit is so bad that the animals themselves are never out and always inside. When they "deep clean," they use BLEACH with animals right next to them. I watched a zookeeper carelessly throw the empty BLEACH bottle next to a bird, and it got scared and flew away. I got pictures after she threw the bottle. Don't waste your money. The zoo needs to be closed down to fix these many safety hazards and probably desperately needs new management the way it's looking.

This is a good zoo. It isn't real big but still there's enough to see and spend a good couple of hours there with the kids. Unfortunately when we went out was cooler and many of the animals we wanted to see didn't come out. No bears, lions, etc. Also several parts were under construction and I guess some animals had been moved elsewhere. All in all its a fun place a good way to spend an afternoon.

It is a nice zoo. They are currently doing maintenance, so some exhibits are closed or relocated, and some of the paths on the map are closed. We got a little frustrated at the missing paths as we were trying to hit our favorite animals as we neared the end of our visit. The butterfly habitat ($4) is lovely room. You can see the chrysalis from which the butterflies hatch. The variety is amazing. Kangaroo petting ($8) is a more unique experience for zoo goers. I have been to a lot of zoos and this was new to me.

Came here with my Girlfriend on a weekday, was not busy at all! Being from California I only have the LA zoo to compare this too, I must say the SA zoo is actually quite big! About 1/4 to half the size of the LA zoo. Overall though there was plenty to see and do! Spent a good hour or 2 there and had a great time! It was nice to see the elephants and giraffes up close, reminded me of LA :) Definitely a great place to just walk around and have a nice time, saw plenty of familes there as well! A lot of the food places are closed but some are scattered around here and there. Give it a try! Won't be disappointed!

Absolutely terrific time during the holiday zoo lights. A light and music show every 15 minutes. Meeting Santa, great merch, even got to roam and hear the lions roaring. Only thing stopping it from a 5 star rating is they closed down the hippo area without putting up any signs except by the door. That means you walk through the rhino and elephant area.... just to walk all the way back to exit the zoo. A little rough on the kids. Wish they had put up some signs further out warning us.

Stopped by the zoo while we were on this side of town. The great thing about season passes is that we can just show up and go for a walk whenever we want. The zoo is currently doing a dinosaur exhibit. Some of the dinosaurs are animated which was really neat. During the week the zoo is usually pretty empty which is always nice.

The San Antonio Zoo is a family affair for certain. The first zoo I ever went as a child was here. I brought my kids here when they were little and now their little ones have visited. Overall, the zoo is in many ways the same as it always been. Tucked just outside of the downtown area adjacent to Breckenridge Park the zoo is a nice little visit and worth going to. The price of the zoo admission does not include all exhibits, so be prepared in the event that you think otherwise. To me, this is the only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars. I certainly don’t recall this being the case years ago, but perhaps this is to help keep the cost of the base admission to a more reasonable cost. Even with this in mind, don’t hesitate to go. You will have a good time and build memories for certain.

Nice area for the zoo. Well geared to children. Entrance price is high, and extra price for special rides or experiences. Several animals not in designated pens and no notice why. Restrooms are small and old. Good amount of sanitizer stands through out park, but not easy to spot. Would be nice to have a splash /fountain area for hot days. Several new exhibits under construction. Good flow to zoo.

The San Antonio zoo has come so far in the ten years I've been here! I especially appreciate the upgrades to the rhino exhibit. Most of the exhibits are middle of the road as far as quality and some are better than others. The staff is very friendly and will chat with the kids if they have questions. The prices are good and there are a lot of experiences here you can pay just a little extra for that are worth doing, in my opinion.

I will say the zoo is clean and the habitats are well maintained. I feel like admission is very high, it's 10$ a ticket more than our zoo back home and for a family of five that adds quickly. I hate that we have to walk through amusement rides to get to the zoo. There are a ton of experiences, which again add up quickly. I feel like I get nickel and dimed. I grabbed tickets for the carousel only to learn that my 4 year old needed a secondary person - with a paid ticket- to stand next to him. When I asked the attendant he pointed above his head and said it's clearly written in the rules. He's right, they are, but I honestly didn't even see this sign until he said something. It certainly wasn't mentioned when I purchased three tickets for three kids. As for safety, I understand that. However we were at Morgan's Wonderland a week prior and my kiddo was on his seat independently while I sat on the ride as well. I don't like that there isn't a map- not at the entrance, not online, nowhere. At one point I was tired of seeing birds and it would have been nice to know which way to go to see other exhibits. Not all of the restaurants are open. Seems kind of odd for a weekend. I like that there are exhibits in the shade and inside, a nice break from the heat and sun.

What a beautiful place to watch all the animals! The entire staff throughout the zoo were so friendly! For a small fee we paid to feed the animals which was an amazing experience. You can definitely see how all the staff really care for the animals and want to educate you on each animal. It was a great experience overall!

Got here right when it opened. Crowded in some places! But once you get past the bunches of people, it's quite nice. Some things to note! The waits for ANYTHING is going to be from 20-45 minutes. There are SO. MANY. CHILDREN. A few of the kids here have literally screamed at the top of their lungs inside. Expect that. It's a zoo, so bring your own snacks, as everything is pretty overpriced and not very good, but if you go in expecting that, this place is an alright zoo. Bring your mask and expect the impossibility of six foot distance.

Avoid hot summer days -- because the animals are all smart enough to hide under the shades and often not active when it is hot. We were very impressed with the diverse species well kept here. If we were local, we would definitely sign up for the membership.

We LOVE going to zoos and had a great time at the San Antonio zoo today! My teenage daughter is a huge bird enthusiast and this zoo did not disappoint. There is even a bird feeding area where you can feed nectar to small parrots @$3/person. The zoo layout is good and there are many specious exhibits for the animals as well as a few new/improved exhibits going up. There is a WONDERFUL kids area with a stage, wading beach, places to play, etc. Lots of air conditioned indoor exhibits help to break up the day nicely. The Beastro has good food too which isn't always the case at zoos. There is also a FABULOUS 100yr old carousel with animals from hummingbirds to elephants to ride. Good job S.A.!

If you’re looking for something fun to do that won’t take all day, then this is right up your alley. I thought it would take longer than 2 hours to view the entire zoo but sadly, that’s all it took. Did see some animals here that I haven’t seen at other zoos and the setup is nice so you’re able to view the animals based on where they live. A lot of kid-friendly things to do which is a plus if that’s what you’re wanting.

We were lucky to witness a lot of the animals enjoying their lunch on Valentine's day! Many had stuffed animals in their areas (cute.. but the monkeys looked confused). lol The day and the weather were perfect! Some areas were closed off in preparation for their Valentine's dinner event, totally understandable. Truly makes us feel like we need to go back soon to see everything we missed! We noticed a lot of areas that seemed upgraded. But don't worry, they still have the create-your-own wax Zoo animal figurine! P.S. They have kiosks on-site for ticket purchases. I was able to get my Veteran discount!

My family had the best day ever. Even with quite a bit of people the day went well. The only exhibit that was full was the hippos. We got to see all the animals they were all out. It was just like when my kids were little. My kids are older but it was still a great place to spend the day with the family and still enjoy it.

I really enjoyed visiting this zoo. There are so many uniquely different animals. The animal exhibits were well taken care. The animals were very active. There were many different activities for children. Patrons could feed various animals for a fee. The parking lot is smaller and finding a parking spot can be difficult. Overall, I would highly suggest taking your family.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our experience at the zoo. We went during a spring break trip. Lots to see and do. One of our favorite things was feeding the flamingos (we did it twice!) but also enjoyed feeding the giraffes and the kangaroo interaction. The butterfly exhibit is also a fun small exhibit. The zoo does shows its "wear" in some places but upgrades are clearly ongoing. Overall, it is a fun day that will take you several hours to see everything.

I've heard that this zoo is one of the best in the states. No wonder it is really well maintained and they have so many kinds of creatures. You can get so close to the animals. It was really impressive how nicely designed each area was. If you like in the Bexar county or have friends who live in the county, you want to check out the local days. Tickets are way cheaper. But honestly it is even worth paying the full price as this zoo should go beyond your expectations.

Very nice and lots of place to use the clean restrooms, different types of food and water fountains. Was clean and not packed when we visited July 5th2023. Also many activities to enjoy with your little ones 3yrs and up. We brought our own water bottles and went closer to closing because theirs not as many people. Many exhibits are being worked on. Animals where hot of course but we got lucky with lots of cloud cover. We even caught a little show inside for our kiddos to learn about the bearded dragon and touch it(depends how the animal is feeling). Staff was all very knowledgeable and helpful.

This Zoo is a great place to take your children. With many cool animals to see, parents can enjoy this as much ad their kids. I would advise you to go early if you're visiting in the summer. After about noon the sun starts beating down and a lot of the animals seek shelter from the heat, so your family may not get a chance to see every animal. Upon entering at the Blue Entrance, there is a mini carnival with rides for the little ones to enjoy that I thought was so cool! There is also the Discovery Place where parents can play and engage their children with hands on learning outside of the heat. While walking around I came across Kronkosky's Tiny Tot Nature Spot; this area is HEAVILY shaded and has water for kids to splash in, so make sure to pack a change of clothes for the Littles ones! Overall, this was a fun experience when I wasn't fighting off a heat stroke.

The zoo was fun and had many exhibits. The layout was a little confusing and made it more difficult to see all of the exhibits. The tickets have to be purchased on line and not on site. There are several exhibits that cost extra, like the kangaroos and the butterflies. Some animals were not out, possibly because it was quite hot. There are several enclosed exhibits with air conditioning. There were some nice play areas for children. (I didn't bring any children, so this is just an observation.) The zoo staff were friendly and helpful.

The San Antonio Zoo has gone digital. You have to scan the QRs code around the area to buy your tickets on your phone, or if you park in the free parking garage, there is a kiosk on the ground level and you can get tickets there, I believe. I will say that for the $30+ adult admission price, I felt the value wasn’t quite there. The zoo is pretty big and spacious, but the price is steep considering the number of animals and exhibits. There are also up-charges for the Kangaroo crossing area, giraffe feeding, and several other things. With the high price of admission, I would’ve expected the kangaroo crossing to be included. I can understand the giraffe feeding being extra. All in all, it’s a great zoo, but try to find a special discount or pricing. Also note that during the month of November, they feature a salute to heroes and they offer free admission to active duty, veterans, and retired military. They also offer 50% admission for up to four military family members. Just FYI…

We visit on the last local day of the year. The was no wait time and no line while we entered into the new entrance. Yes i highly recommend to buy all tickets in advance. We enjoyed ourselves and the experience was the best day ever. My daughter enjoyed the reptile house while I enjoyed more of the other natural exhibit especially the lions and tigers den. Thank you kindly for your kindness and hospitality of your wonderful staff. Happy holidays! Best Regards, Celeste Ponce and family

I went in without expecting but it was much bigger than I thought! A lot of animals were not out for some reason which I was bit disappointed in the morning but some animals need rest. The bigger animals that I wanted to see were out so I was happy! I would recommend coming with kids if you want to see animals! The tickets are all online (no ticket booth exists) so I would highly recommend buying it prior. There wasn’t any wait so I just bought it in front of gate through phone, but things might change when the weather gets warmer.

This is the best zoo! All animals look super healthy and approached us. We took great, one of a kind pictures! No wasted space, everything clean, sanitation stations throughout the entire zoo! Will, definitely, visit again and again! It also had an aquarium and a museum of Natural History!

This Zoo is Great! All the big animals like lions, tigers, bears, rhinos, crocodiles you name it, they have one! Great experience for any age but children especially will have an unforgettable experience plus they will learn a lot about the animals as well. Definitely worth the cost of admission.

The elephant looks MISERABLE, she was rocking back and forth. If you search articles about Lucky you'll learn she's been alone for 7 years since their partner died. Every other large animal has company and seem to be fine. I didn't expect to visit a zoo and leave in tears, please never visit this place until they free this poor animal! Sickening!

Super fun experience, me and my fiancé enjoyed the zoo for the most part.. Unfortunately they close at 5 so employees leave at 4 and the animals are alone, everything starts shutting down so don't waste your money, they need to stay open later and have full staff until closing. We loved the butterfly house, and had so much fun on the train ride!

Awesome place to go with the family. So many animals to see and opportunities to come close to them. you do have to pay extra for the meet an greets but they a reasonably priced and something that you will remember forever. You can ride the train right outside of the park and feed birds and ride the carousel for just a bit more. Well worth it if you have a child under 3 because they are free and get to experience it all.

The zoo train does NOT take you through the zoo so be aware of that prior to ticket purchase. Also the train seating is very cramped. Otherwise a fun place. The zoo parking garage is a significant walk from the entrance. Highly recommend parking across the street in the train depot area. There is a Starbucks and bathrooms in the depot area. They have scooters available for rental but get there early!

The Zoo is located inside Breckenridge park. It is a great size to explore. It has Komodo dragons, the big cats, a hippo enclosure, a feed the giraffe experience that is an extra fee. Buying tickets in advance makes entry quicker. There are free and reduced entry days that are periodic. We find our season passes well worth having as we drop by whenever we want to get out and enjoy the animals. They are very handicapped friendly and accessible and my daughter with mobility issues navigates the zoo easily. The only help she needs is the stairs into and out of the reptile house. Otherwise it is a great adventure.

Great place for kids and adults. They have plenty of extra features you wouldn't find in most zoo's. You get to feed birds that land on you as they eat. You can pet kangaroo's and even feed a giraffe. They do offer military discounts. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I enjoyed the zoo and got to see lots of beautiful animals. This is one of the best zoos I’ve been too. It’s fun even for adults! I went just me and my partner and we had a great time! There’s lots of fun and activities for children as well. And the zoo is so large that it doesn’t feel too crowded. You do have to buy tickets online before entry, which we did and it was super easy!

I enjoyed this visit, many animals I have not seen at other zoos. It was very hot, so many animals were hiding from the heat, once the sun went down… it was great. The animals were out enjoying themselves!

The zoo was so much fun! It was great going on a Monday because it wasn’t packed but some animals weren’t out like the Tiger and Lion. The tickets are half price on weekdays which is another reason we went. Just expect a lot of things to be closed. The butterfly experience was the best!

I'm very impressed with all the upgrades they've done since I used to go. They have options to feed flamingos, giraffes, and the lorry birds. However, the lorry birds aren't able to be fed because of construction in the habitat. They had a ton of "cool zones" throughout the zoo. You can also go pet kangaroos. The only downside is how everything is digital (id rather have a physical map of the zoo), and a lot of the kiosks weren't open. If you go in the mornings, it's much less crowded and it seems the animals are more lively and out, which was a huge plus. Also, tickets have to be bought online, and they have a special HEB community day where tickets are significantly reduced. 100% would go again

Visiting from out of town. Our kids are grown but we all love the zoo. This zoo is lovely! Good variety of animals, extensive birds. Evidence of successful breeding programs. Very clean, helpful staff. The paper map was not very helpful. I don't know if the QR code map is any better. Definitely kid friendly too. Would recommend!

Animals were active enjoying the fantastic weather. Saw active Lions, Tigers and Bears (oh my!) Everyone was friendly and sharing viewpoints for pictures to best see the wildlife. Habitats were well kept and animals looked healthy. Great day at the zoo! Get tickets online, it saves time at the gate. QR codes are available on the walking path.

We went to the zoo on Monday evening to see all the lights. It’s been awhile since we last visited. The new entrance is beautiful. They have added so many new features at the zoo. You can buy your tickets digitally right at the entrance. No waiting in lines at the ticket booths anymore. The lights were amazing.

Impressed with the zoo. The new entrance is attractive, bathrooms clean (free products for those in need). The animals were lively and active, Africa Live and the Aviaries were our favs. We mapped the zoo out ahead of a senior visit, the zoo itself is quite accessible. Getting our membership was online and easy, as was ordering food online at Beastro (via the zoo website). You can get tickets for giraffe feeding, etc on weekends but can have a great time just strolling about. We’re looking forward to the improvements to come (2025 gorilla exhibit and zoo expansion).

The online ticket sales are very inconvenient and a huge hassle, there's not many signs about it as well so lots of confused people clustered at the gates! Also a very frustrating system since it was having some issues. We have an autistic daughter and we're trying to find sensory bags(which are normally at ticket desks) and didn't find them. There is construction so lots of empty exhibits as well. Some were just empty with no signs, and there were a surprising number of those.. Also the zoo with how expensive it is, felt like they nickel and dime you for everything after you get in. Between the heat, overpriced tickets and how much some of the things cost to do in the park I wouldn't really recommend it, Natural Bridge Safari seems like a better deal honestly...

It's a great zoo. If you live within 70 miles and have kids, you'll get a great time during the whole year. There's usually something changing so you might not get bored visiting every couple of months. Usually very well organized, staff is quite attentive and honest servicing their visitors. Food is ok but it can improve. During Covid-19, cleanliness has been taken seriously so please follow the signs and rules

  • 5/5 Joe B. 3 years ago on Google
Clean, safe, socially distant zoo. We visited this past weekend. The zoo was following all the CDC guidelines for Covid-19 to the best of their availability. Face masks were required, markings were on the ground to keep people 6 feet apart when waiting in line, and the facilities were cleaned regularly. For example the train had plexiglass between the rows, it was loaded to a reduced capacity, and in between runs it was wiped down thoroughly by the zoo staff. On a lighter note the animals were out, and we got lots of great photos. The animals have large exhibits and are well taken care of. I would highly recommend this zoo to anyone.

This trip to the zoo was fantastic! The aviary was back open, which the kids loved. The new barnyard exhibit is really wonderful! The kids loved the alpacas. The splash pad and the creek in Nature's Neighborhood were both open, which was a great way for all of us to cool down a bit. Our only disappointment was that Codie the Koala was no longer on exhibit. Other than that it was a splendid day at our zoo!

The baby animals were so excited and ready to perform. This is a great zoo. Bring your walking shoes you will get your steps in. Food was reasonable price and good taste except the caramel corn ( carmel corn had no real taste). The have non dairy frozen treats by Dole, very taste. I recommend getting the membership it has perks like food discounts and more. Toledo Zoo a great day trip.

The zoo was very nice and clean. First time ever for us to have to stand in line to get into the exhibits. I understand the need for this. 6 foot apart and limiting numbers of people in the buildings. This is labor day weekend and the zoo was super busy. But I didnt hear people complaining about needing to wait. The employees were really good at keeping things running smoothly.

Many of the animals are available to be seen but almost all of the indoor viewing options are closed and most of the rides. The funneled way of traffic causes many back ups due to slower moving patrons. The outdoor viewing areas fill up quite quickly and there is no consideration given to smaller children who may not be able to see through the crowds. Also there are many times where the zoo has roped off a good 3 ft in front in the exhibits which makes it even harder to see into them. The bird feeder advertises that they have like 6 different flavors of dole whip but they only have two.

Zoos are our thing. We have visited Zoos both inside and outside of the US. We really enjoyed our first visit to the Toledo Zoo this past weekend. This Zoo’s layout was one of the best. It was thoughtfully laid out and accessible without having to worry if you missed an exhibit. Two things really stood out during our visit. One, the size of the exhibits themselves. Too often the viewing area is tiny but not at the Toledo Zoo. Each exhibit allows you to to get up close and personable with the animals. Two, the Croc, Rhino, and Polar Bear. We were shocked at the sheer size of the Croc we were not expecting that as we rounded the corner. Wow! Never before have we seen a Rhino or Polar Bear as interactive as the two we saw that day. We feel this was largely due in part to the enrichment objects made available to the animals which was nice to see. We would however like to see an improvement in the signage as we saw several animals on exhibit in which we could not locate anything saying what they were. This was a missed opportunity. It was also odd to see that some of the more basic animals were not available here such as Lions. Which left us wondering why ...

We visited the zoo this Saturday afternoon..it was extremely hot 100° but it was worth going to celebrate our sons b-day. We actually got the Family of 4 funday pass for $69.99 that includes a meal, admission for the zoo and souvenir cup. The burgers and fries were surprisingly good definitely worth getting! Happy to park in their new indoor garage that was free! Some of the animal exhibit were empty. They have alot of birds thou. We love the Hippo exhibit, carousel, and reptiles house. Definitely take water bottles and an umbrella it will come in handy for the sun! 🌞

We are members of the zoo and we love it. During this time it is one of the few places I feel safe taking my kids to. They encourage everyone to wear masks outside and masks are required inside. They have hand sanitizer stations all throughout the zoo. The animals are well cared for.

My family enjoyed visiting especially during the Christmas season. The lights were beautiful once the sun went down. Had an amazing time at the zoo today. We used the family deal that includes four tickets + lunch. It really was a great value for a family. Plus, the burgers were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the animal exhibits and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of animals they had. Our only issue was that the zoo layout is incredibly confusing. There aren't that many maps displayed throughout the property and there doesn't really seem like a logical way to go through it without missing something or backtracking. Regardless, we had an amazing time, and the holiday lights were a bonus.

We had a great time yesterday with the Fun Pass tickets. They are sooo worth the extra little bit per person. I didn't look into Lory Landing before we went and it was one of the best things of the entire day. We went to Kiddie Park on Saturday for about an hour and it was a bit young for my 9 year old but my 5 year old was happy. Everyone was happy at the zoo aside from too much walking for my 5 year old. We fed the giraffes for $5/person too which was a very quick experience.

Then we ordered something else and they brought out something completely, then gave us so much attitude when we were unhappy, very dissatisfied with its our zoo experience this time , we spent a lot of money to be treated so poorly , almost better to just drive farther for a better experience.

San Antonio zoo has some great animals and the zoo is well laid out. I was pretty disappointed in the quality of bathrooms (needed more cleaning plus they are just kind of dingy to start with) and the food was pretty terrible. We did a meal deal with our tickets and were dismayed to learn that it only includes hot dog or hamburger and nothing like chicken nuggets or salads. So don’t do that! We also had some bad experiences with staff- my 9 year old son with a broken arm immediately dropped his full dippin dots container and when we asked the employee if he could get another she said we’d have to pay. I mean, I guess that’s policy or whatever but it made him embarrassed for asking and he got pretty upset. A little kindness would have gone a long way. We always love our visits at the zoo. We get passes every year. Its a decent size but just big enough that we could walk the whole thing in just a couple hours. It's the perfect place for my toddlers to run around and learn about the animals.

I like almost everything about the San Antonio Zoo 🦎🙊🐯🦊 except the fact that the train🚂 ride was broken down. That was something I really wanted to do with having small children, and the workers really didn't care or say anything to assist in the situation. Like offer to give a refund💵$💵$💵 So don't know if going back.👎

The entrance to the zoo had us pay electronically and get a texted or emailed receipt. I would have preferred a friendly zoo employee. When we entered the zoo, my family and I saw two young ladies almost directly in front of us offering to take pictures. I asked the rate and then turned them down. She said, "You can still take a picture in front of the lions." So, my husband, grown son, and I went and posed in front of the lions to take our own selfie. I noticed one of the young ladies had her camera aimed at us. I told her we didn't want her pictures. She replied, "Our policy is we have to take a picture if anyone takes a picture." So my family and I walked away. The zoo has beautiful landscaping. The Lego block displays I didn't see at first. I passed signs that said how many blocks and how many hours, but I was at the back of the zoo before I clearly saw a mallard duck and his offspring. I got so excited. That's when it dawned on me that's what the signs had meant, and I had missed the others. After that, I looked more closely to see the displays. The zoo is beautiful, and the animals look healthy. I like the variety that you have and that you didn't have to build fake accommodations; instead you seem to have animals that can be comfortable in the heat of Texas. The signs could be better at showing direction, because sometimes the path to follow isn't very clear. I am amazed and pleased you have helped with the protection and propagation of the Whooping Crane. We heard two of them making a beautiful sound together, but we couldn't video it quickly enough. The Flamingos were fabulous, too. This was a pleasant experience, and I wish you the best on your newest venture.

Fantastic visit! Not too hot and not too many people. Highly recommend you come visit. Zoo is well constructed and the path through allows for a regular and natural stroll asking the exhibits. The staff was friendly and Kidde Park is right out front! The train ride is outside the Zoo and the kids loved it.

The San Antonio Zoo is very nice. They have a huge selection of birds that I really enjoyed. The layout of the zoo gives you the opportunity to get in your cardio. I was very surprised to see a large percentage of the vendors open. I must do if you are in San Antonio.

We were passholders a few years back and loved visiting once every month or so (we live in austin so it's a small drive) we recently got passes again and visited just a few weeks ago. My advice to anyone that is being diligent about covid precautions ...come early. We got there shortly after opening at 10 am and it was fine lower crowds and every single person had a mask. When we were heading out around 12:30 that was not the case. Crowds were getting to be much bigger and huge parties with no masks on or on improperly. This was on a Saturday so we expected crowds to start getting crazy around noon anyways. We had a good time otherwise saw a ton of animals and my son loved running around the new kid grass area they added. So again if your worried about covid come early as soon as it opens if possible and leave around noon in our experience. Will update if we go on a weekday.

Most animals are 'unavailable", that is just nature, animals made of legos and lights compensate some (if you have little children), my low rating however is due is to their membership management and policies. Before you commit a year to a monthly membership ask all the questions you can possibly imagine. I know the zoo finances need help but the zoo management need be smart and do not risk the trust of the remaining customers who are willing to pay for it.

The lady at Lorey Landing was cool and the exhibits were very interesting, but I was pretty disappointed at the lack of mask enforcement within the park. The website makes it seem like they require masks for everyone within the park, but almost half of the people I saw were not wearing their masks or were wearing them improperly. Sanitizer stations were few and far between. I didn't feel safe here.

While we got to see most of the animals out and about the exhibits are small and animals seemed stressed out. There was a whole area of the zoo by the Carousel that was covered in bird droppings and smelt horrible. The whole experience was a little depressing from what I remember it as a child.

Love the San Antonio zoo. Exhibits are close enough together that walking isn't too much for the kiddos. Lots of places to get drinks and snacks. We love going to the zoo! An annual pass pays for itself in two visits. Definitely a great place to go on cool summer days, and warm winter days. Fall is always a fun time to go also.

  • 4/5 Braeden Q. 3 years ago on Google
Pretty decent zoo. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you have to park at the closest parking lot. There are other lots and extra 100 ft down the road. Takes about 3-4 hours to walk though whole thing with kids if you want to see everything. I do not recommend eating at the Beastro Cafe when you get hungry. It took 20-25 min to order and another 30-40 min when all I order was a little 10 inch pizza and a hamburger. Food quality was on par with a school cafeteria. I’d say eat a good meal beforehand and get their snacks instead like popcorn, hot dogs, and pretzels.

Beautiful day to enjoy the zoo. A little disappointed that so many of the shops were closed for food/drinks. We thought about leaving to go grab lunch for everyone but there is no re-entry to the zoo. We also left gifts for our birthday boy in our cars so didn't get to enjoy cake and gifts for him. We made the day work but not the best for families with small children.

I purchased my tickets online the fun pass which is super worth. The fun pass has everything you can possibly do there at the san Antonio zoo. The zoo has so many animals you can spend at least 2-3 hours looking at all the animals they have. They also have information on all the animals there habitats what they eat and much more. They just started putting up animatronic dinosaurs up which are super cool for smaller kids. I would recommend the zoo to anyone one that likes outdoors and animals. There gift shops have a large selection as well something for everyone.

  • 5/5 Madison C. 3 years ago on Google
We love this zoo. While it is pricey, I know that the pricing does go to help the animals and the animals seem happy and well taken care of. There's lots of fun things to do and they always have fun events. I am especially thankful of how well they have handled the pandemic and that they ask people to keep masks on indoors. Its a great family spot and we have lots of fun every time we go! Definitely worth a membership because you'll want to go with all the new exhibits!

It was ok. We paid $30 each for majority of the animals not to be seen. I really was looking forward to seeing the lions and tigers but NOPE! Nowhere to be seen. So many exhibits were empty. This review is mainly about the new dragon forest! And oh man what an awesome edition to our local zoo! This place has grown so much and with all the new attractions it’s made it so much more dynamic. Almost all of the dragons moved and I from of each one they had displays saying what part of the world the dragon was from. My only complaint is that sometimes the special events and tickets or info can be hard to get a hold of. The dragon forest is located directly behind the new parking garage but for the life of me I could not find anywhere online where I should park. I ended up parking right by the zoo and to make the hike up hill to the back of the parking lot. My son and I attended the event for “dragon alley” which is supposed to be a play on words for the infamous “diagon alley” in Harry Potter. I’m sure the zoo knew all the Harry Potter fans would come out, and we did. They advertised there would be butter beer but they only had one stand. The line was so long! Like over and hour in the heat. We ended up just grabbing iced coffee from Starbucks and taking the train ride around the zoo. It was still fun but if they had more booths open I’m sure ppl would have bought more.

This zoo was fantastic! My husband & I enjoyed the “Reptile House” and Komodo dragon exhibit. They were the best in my opinion. We arrived @ 9:00 a.m. and it wasn’t too crowded. As time went on, it was starting to get busier. The San Antonio Zoo was reasonably priced, a couple of things are under construction. We walked the whole zoo in two hours. Took almost 100 pictures. Parking is free.

This place is huge and amazing. I think my husband and I had more fun than the kids😂😂😂They have all kinds of animals and things to see.. It is truly the best zoo I have been too. It was a wonderful experience!! Visit SA Zoo to meet and see the animals they have!❤️ 🦓🦒🦘🦛🦜🦢🐦 I suggest bring a hat to protect you from sunlight and put sun screen too! We went there Sunday around 9:30 and spent 1hr, not so crowded(the earlier the better). They also have sanitizer scattered all over the places. Purchase the ticket online to avoid the queue. Wear your mask 😷 and stay hydrated 🌞. Enjoy the view!!

We have been here many times and our son always loves it. There are a ton of different exhibits that you can get close to. Feeding the giraffes is always a ton of fun. They're always changing things up, whether it's the dinosaur models throughout the park or Halloween or Christmas themed things. The nearby train and kiddie park is great too. Biggest problem I have here is the parking. Highly recommend you get there early so you're not dealing with the parking lot or garage.

Very hard to understand and yes you could scan it on your phone if you want but even that was too little to understand... Train ride was FUN My little guy LOVES Trains! 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💕

Good variety of animals. Some construction currently. Most food venues within the zoo remain closed but had nice burger at the main restaurant. Unpleasant time at the kangaroo encounter (with staff only- the animals were great) but staff at gift shop and photographers were lovely.

Excellent zoo. A variety of animals, some I've never seen before... and I visit lots of zoos. The new jaguar exhibit was fantastic.

Lots of animals to see. There are places to eat. And plenty of areas to rest. Go during the week day. Not crowded at all. GOD bless all the people that work there.

Very cool zoo, it was big and well kept. The animals seemed happy. However the signage could deff be a bit more clear where things are at and where you can and cant go. But aside from the in park sign issue I think it was a neat zoo.

We went here on 11/26/21. The zoo is well kept. The animals look like they are well taken care of. We came here at opening, which I don't recommend. I recommend letting the crowd die down a little bit before attempting to go in here, otherwise expect to wait a while to get tickets.

My family visited here in Nov 2021. Veterans receive a free admission and up to 4 family members receive 50%. We saw alot of new encounters that I've never seen before. For instance, the kangaroo encounter, where you get to get up close and personal with the animal. It was definitely an experience to remember. They had the park displayed with Christmas lights and smores stations. Great family time and educational for my 5 yr old. Definitely visit again soon.

The zoo was awesome today!! Only because we went 2 weeks ago with the whole family (9 total) to see the zoo lights and missed out on all the attractions. We went at 4:25 to feed the girraffes and they ran out of food. So I took my sister back today, she's visiting for her birthday and went straight to the giraffes. She had so much fun feeding them! ($5.00 for lettuce) Feeding is between (2-4:30) then we stopped to feed the birds ($3.00 only til 4:30) So much laughs with the birds on our heads and arms. Then straight to ride the camel. Its on my sisters bucket list. She rode Coco so sweet ($10.00 rides until closing) We also found out once a month residents are only $8.00 so that's great to know in the future! We had a blast . We also ate at the Bistro restaurant, hot dog and fries($8.00) it was way better than the food booth and I think the same price. Tickets to feed the giraffes, ride the camel and feed the birds are all purchased at the site not when you purchase the main ticket to the zoo. Have fun! Aloha🌺

Fantastic small zoo, well thought out and made to seem big. Did the Hippo experience and loved it... Up close feeding and explanations, but too bad couldn't touch one. Prices at the cafe are not too bad for a zoo and the BLT grilled cheese was really good. Beautiful park area outside zoo and easy access. We will come back.

I gave this 2 stars only because it seems like it's a great zoo, and one day hope to update this. I took my toddler and nieces and nephew here for the Zoo Lights and was highly disappointed. I visited from out of town and the advertising for Zoo Lights seems like it's spectacular and something worthy of seeing.😑 It is not... Do not come here for the Zoo Lights and waste your money. I am really upset with how much the Zoo charges for this. Tickets after 5p should be deeply discounted as you do not see any animals just trees here and there wrapped in lights. The "light show" is 1. ONE. 32 foot tree that was synchronized to music for about 3-5 minutes? I would only come during the day to see the animals itself. Otherwise go to Lightscape down the street or something.

A good time with the kids a little expensive the $10 cotton candy and $4 pickles blew me away. You have to pay to pet all the animals or feed them so it can become quit expensive with multiple kids so bring a few $100 with you after you pay. Overall the kid had a blast so I was happy😊!

Had an amazing time and dinner for the President's Dinner for Student Leaders. Glad to see Texas A&M University-San Antonio as a part of the zoo. Love the Pantera Walk

It was awesome they had Resnik middle school and Legacy high school band playing beautiful Christmas songs and the zoo was decorated with the most beautiful Christmas lights which made it all the more beautiful and colorful the kids and l were amazed

A trip to the SA Zoo is a special Christmas trip. To see some of the animals with all the Christmas lights around has become a yearly trip for me if you are slow to get into the Christmas spirit then a trip to ZOO LIGHTS will get you there very quick. The Zoo staff does a wonderful job of creating a magical time for everyone.

We absolutely love this zoo! It’s beautiful and relaxing. There are many places to sit, relax and enjoy the wildlife. Highlights are the many species of birds ( the flamingos were our favorite so beautiful and vibrant) and the Pantera Walk where the Jaguar can walk a bridge over the crosswalk. My only complaint would be the restrooms were not so hot… they could have better cared for the day we went. Here are some random wildlife pics.

Really Nice Zoo with beautiful and healthy animals! I only wish there were more information sessions or shows during this particular season. However, I'm sure that improves in the summer. I enjoyed being able to interact with birds and kangaroos!

Hands down a one of a kind zoo! I was trying to make it early in order to beat the heat but it was still scorching down on us but it’s understandable it’s late August. There is SO much to see and there are some animals that you won’t see very often - at least not in Dallas or Houston Zoos- they have hippos, a hyena, the cutest bush dogs, and stunning crowned cranes. There is room for improvement for sure- some exhibits have overgrown weeds and the restrooms could use some TLC but all in all I would definitely recommend families to come check this out!

I really like this zoo. I enjoyed it so much that I bought an annual pass for my family. There are a lot of different animals to see and appreciate. Fun areas for the kids and lots of "cool zone" areas to cool off in the Texas heat. I wish that the membership plan was a bit more all inclusive. The lowest tier membership that I have doesn't allow you to ride rides or feed some of the animals without paying an additional fee. Other than that, though, it's a fun place to spend an hour or two on a weekend.

  • 5/5 Eryn S. 10 months ago on Google
So fun! We loved that there were indoor spaces and outdoor spaces together so that we didn't get too hot while walking through the whole zoo. The animals seemed well cared for and some of them were very curious. The zoo was very informative. We paid extra to feed the giraffes as well, would definitely recommend it.

  • 5/5 Isis J. 8 months ago on Google
The zoo was a lot of fun and the animals were beautiful and the exhibits were very unique and well put together. My only complaint is the length of the zoo for the price you pay. It’s a little small but quite expensive.

  • 4/5 Valera R. 9 months ago on Google
I'm giving it a four only because of the high cost to get in and the condition of some of the bathrooms. I love zoos and go to them as often as I can. Some of the displays were a bit outdated, but the zoo was beautiful, and they had exotic animal's I had never seen before. I would definitely go again and recommend it to friends.

Always a great time at the zoo! We have season passes. We get there first thing when the gate opens. The kids only last a few hours. Bring plenty of water and electrolytes. Freeze your water bottles the night prior. Sunscreen and hats. They have plenty of activities inside to cook off here and there.

  • 4/5 Brandon B. 7 months ago on Google
We got a good deal for the year pass for the price of a day, and while the zoo is still under some pretty major renovations, the parts they have opened up again look great. They also have an awesome pet adoption center right outside their front entrancen that is not part of them but fun to see the kittens and puppy anyways. If you find a deal on tickets you could definitely spend a day there.

The animals here are very well cared for and very loved, and the people who work here are always courteous and knowledgeable. They even have misters and cooling zones set up for people to refresh themselves from the heat! The care this zoo has for its patrons and critters is obvious. This is a wonderful zoo!

  • 5/5 rox p. 6 months ago on Google
The zoo is absolutely beautiful, always so clean and flowing with flowers. There is mist spots right now to cool down and the kids will love it. There's plenty on animal out. We went early and saw some feeding. Make sure you buy your ticket before hand. Right now there is some construction but nothing that'll stop any fun. Just go take the whole family. Love it, got the season pass so I can keep going back. Just a great environment.

So.. At first walk up you are misted by some musty water. Why?! Then the check in line has one person reviewing tickets and setting up memberships!! That is ridiculous. I think the animals either had heat exhaustion. They all pretty much were just laying around their cages passed out. It was Sunday and around 2. A lot of the cages were un kept and a lot of the zoo was not maintained... There were not many animal handlers and the cleaning crew seemed to just be walking around... I will just charge it to the heat, because there is absolutely no way this Zoo is being ran like that.

We were given a free pass from HEB (we both work there) and as usual it was a great visit. With school just starting a couple weeks back, it was super slow and quiet. Friendly people and it was nice to take our time and stroll thru at our own pace.

  • 5/5 Emmanuel 5 months ago on Google
Always a fun visit. The newish butterfly house is beautiful and worth the extra 4 bucks. Feeding the giraffes is cool too. Seems expensive for what it is but it's helping the zoo.

Love the zoo, went with my granddaughter, she just loved all the wild creatures, she loved feeding the fish and duck's. We both loved eating 😋 the bucket of fries, it was very tasty. We went with her school, she loved the carousel 🎠 ride so much that we went twice on it. My daughter and I loved her excitement in the zoo.

First off, the place is under construction, so it might be easier when it's finished. The parking garage is a long walk from the entrance. The paths are confusing to navigate. The most annoying thing is the ticket to get in is pricey, but then do many of the exhibits cost extra to enter. Their is also a lot of advertising and marketing through out the park. No picnics are allowed in the zoo. Restrooms were okay. The good things at the animals seemed well cared for and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My children loved the kids area with activities.

We loved the zoo. We are members of a different zoo. Not only did we receive discount on the tickets(due do a different zoo membership, we also received a discount on food and merchandise. We also liked the fact that we did not have a to pay to park. The only disappointment was the lack of some direction on where to purchase tickets due to the new construction of the entrance.

I visited with my daughter and her school last week and it was overall a great experience. They are re-vamping at the moment, but you can still have a good time despite aesthetics. My daughter was so happy to see the animals so I cannot complain. It was fun and educational. Thank you! :)

The zoo was a fantastic visit. My mother was visited from Florida, enjoys walking, watching animals, and absolutely enjoyed this zoo (as we all did). The only unrelated issue we had was the recurring payments for the zoo membership as they would stop after a a few months. We didn’t feel like dealing it, but this is still a five-star visit! We couldn’t be any happier!

We are from out of state, visiting SA for a basic training graduation and got the city pass, our favorite thing was the San Antonio Zoo. It was so nice and a lot of animals to see. We had a great time. And we had no kids with us. So even adults will enjoy.

  • 5/5 Wendell B. 3 months ago on Google New
I love the SA zoo. I have been able to go to the zoo several times in the last 2 years thanks to my kids' field trips. It is always fun. Maybe not as fun going in August as it the heat made my wife and daughter almost cry, but my son and I were fine. Recently went in December and it was much cooler and very nice.

  • 4/5 Bronson A. 3 months ago on Google New
I picked the wrong day and time to go because it was raining and the place was filled of schoolchildren so not every animal wanted to be seen, but I enjoyed it anyway. It was awesome to see Komodo Dragons, Hippos and Kangaroos, plus the Bald Eagles! How beautiful they were. Tickets must be bought in advance. They no longer sell tickets at the ticket booth and its cheaper if you schedule a day and purchase a ticket days before not the day of.

  • 5/5 Julia D. 3 months ago on Google New
Amazing zoo! Tickets are only sold online. Very steep areas, so I recommend wheelchair users to use powered wheelchairs. Some exhibits were closed, so call ahead if you're looking forward to a specific section.

  • 2/5 Kat S. 2 months ago on Google New
This is a typical old zoo. They try to make habitats for the animals, but most are still small and crowded and not very animal friendly. They were also not prepared for holiday crowds during Christmas week. Only ONE restaurant open. We placed an order after waiting in a very long line. 30 min later and they hadn't even started our order. We cancelled and left the zoo for greener pastures. I have been to much better zoos.

  • 4/5 Tiffany G. 2 months ago on Google New
Loved coming here. Feeding the giraffes was fun! The only disappointment was that there were quite a few of the exhibits with no animals and some of the bird exhibits had the wrong labels to the breeds. Please make your exit more clear for guests too (we had to ask despite the map).

  • 5/5 Ryan J. 3 months ago on Google New
Really fun experience. We had a blast. Kids and Grandma had fun feeding the giraffes. I recommend going through Groupon or checking the website for current events. It can definitely be cheaper online
