Best zoo I've ever been to! The animal enclosures are large with shade and running water. You get to interact with the animals not just stare at them from a distance. Feeding the giraffes was amazing! My kids were excited to stand right next to penguins, wallaby and feed tropical birds. The best part is that the zoo has a timed entry which really helps control the crowd size, we went on Memorial weekend and had zero lines.

Good Zoo. Lots of up hill walking so wear good shoes. It’s windy on the mountain so a jacket might be good to. There is coffee at the Cozy Goat. The “Loft” has reptiles, I thought it was a restaurant from the outside. There is a lot to see but can be done in a few hours. Look at the website for scheduled feedings and animal encounters before you go. Like wolf feeding at 11:00 penguin feeding at 3:15. The morning is less crowded. There is is another attraction to see while you are at the Zoo! The Shrine of the Sun is located above the Zoo, your Zoo ticket includes admission to the Shrine of the Sun. Shrine closes at 4pm so you will want to make sure you leave time for this. Or go before you go into the Zoo. There is a drive up gate to the left of the main Zoo entrance and you drive to the little shack and show your Zoo ticket. Then you can drive up to the Shrine through the Zoo. This is the only way to get there. The Zoo doesn’t advertise this at all. Also your Zoo ticket is good for 2 weeks for the Shrine. If you have 4 people in the car you need to show 4 Zoo tickets, and i believe if you are a member of the zoo your annual pass works for the Shrine too.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is such a unique and beautiful zoo to visit. It is the only zoo that is built upon a mountain side. This makes this particular zoo very unique because of the elevation change that you get when visiting the zoo. You can be higher on the mountain side and look over the rest of the zoo sitting below you. They have a lot of very spacious and well put together enclosures with many different and unique species of animals. I would highly recommend visiting the giraffe feeding area, where they is a tall boardwalk setup that you can walk around and be at the giraffes height and feed them by hand. I've visited many zoos and this one is probably the most unique and cool zoo to check out.

This is easily the best zoo experience I’ve had in my life. The animals generally look happy and healthy, which is most important to me. There’s plenty of space for them to roam and explore. There’s also an insane amount of animal species at the zoo. I didn’t think I would see a tiger, a wallaby, and a grizzly all in the same day. There’s also a ton to do with kids. Our daughter loved feeding the giraffes and goats, and riding the merry-go-round in between animal visits. The zoo does get very busy though. There are some parts that get especially packed (think - elephant exhibits, monkey zones, etc), but overall it’s worth the wait. Also worth mentioning, the zoo seems genuinely dedicated to wildlife restoration and other noble causes towards the betterment of animals. I love that. I’d definitely recommend checking out the zoo for some family fun or to just see wildlife that you normally wouldn’t get the chance to in the US.

Believe the hype! This is probably one of the best and well-thought-out zoos we have ever been to. Each exhibit is truly unique and you really don't feel bad for any of the animals. They seemed to be well taken care of and overall content with the zoo life. Some of the animals like the baby kangaroos and peacocks were just out and about. Our kid had a blast with them. After coming here, we didn't even bother with the Denver Zoo. The gift shop selections could've been a bit better, but I'm not going to take points off for that. Bring a solid pair of walking shoes, as this park is in the side of a mountain and you'll have some decent elevation changes to take on. I also suggest looking into pre-purchasing tickets (like most parks in Colorado) to help with parking.

This is a must do when in the area. Feeding the giraffes was definitely a highlight, but having the pleasure of almost being nose to nose with mating penguins...AMAZING!!! I absolutely recommend driving up to the shrine (this is included with your zoo pass admission) as a delightful addition to the zoo. They are a non-profit that does not rely on tax income. So feel free to spend 💰 for a good and fun cause.

COZY AND UNIQUE LITTLE ZOO! LOVE GIRAFFES? MUST SEE! The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a little out of the way but well worth it. I've been to tons of zoos but this one was unique in its location and a far more relaxing experience than some of the larger zoos in the states. If you love Giraffes, this is a must stop. There are eateries on site with amazing views from decks and a one-of-a-kind view from the gandola lift up and down the mountain.

Everyone says this zoo is amazing, and that it is... It's not the biggest zoo, but you can tell that the people in charge and the workers really do care. We went on a snowy weekend and it was quiet, which was nice. I think we saw maybe just over a dozen other people while we were there. We fed the giraffes the wallabies were laying about, the tiger and mountain lions were stalking their care takers, and the wolf's were howling. I'm not sure if we just won the lottery on the day we came, but it was great. Definitely will be back again. No wonder people recommend this zoo left and right.

Incredible zoo experience! The exhibits present in a more natural environment being on the side of the mountain. All the zoo staff we have encountered have been very friendly and knowledgeable. The food court is awesome! Very easy to navigate and great prices for what is offered. The sky ride is a must as long as you're not afraid of heights. The view at the top is absolutely beautiful. The HUGE win associated with this zoo is the ability to feed the giraffes and have that interactive experience. The kiddos absolutely love it and adults do too!

Amazing zoo experience. Just WOW to the people that trained the Grizzly bears. They are so trained and is so fun to watch. I felt like a kid watching that. Besides that organization in the zoo is perfect. The water fans are amazing for this summer season. The feeding experiences are with it. Highly recommend

This is one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to and I consider myself a zoo enthusiast as I usually take a day to visit the zoo anywhere I go. This zoo is a special place nestled into the mountains it’s one of the highest zoos in the world and you can hand feed one of the largest beards of giraffe in North America. You can even take a ski lift up the mountain to whiteness an amazing view and glide over the top of some exhibits for a unique view into the enclosures. I just absolutely loved it and would highly recommend anyone come visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

This was probably one of the nicest zoo's iv been to as far as the wild life that they have. It being on the side of a mountain I really didn't know what to expected, and the climb just seem like it kept going and going. It's a very well put together zoo and the views are beautiful. Lots of animals to see and encounter and with the options to do feedings was awsome. We went during thr winter and we got to experience about 90% of the animals didn't get to see the bear, but thr lion made up for it. Great experience and I do highly recommend this zoo, I'll definitely be coming back.

Amazing experience. COVD restrictions in place (must wear masks in building). Restaurants are opened. Loved seeing the animals again. The zip line was great as well. You ride up, get off, look around the top of the zoo, get back on and go down. There are animals viewable from the zip line once you are in the air. Tennis shoes are best as sons of the walk is uphill.

This zoo is so good! If you're local I would definitely recommend a membership as it's a much better deal. We come every couple weeks and the kids are never bored. It's a bit of a hike in places so wear comfy shoes and I always bring my stroller for the younger kids and to pile our stuff on. Feeding the giraffes is always a highlight. Parking is free and they have a few options for eating but we always pack a lunch. Will definitely be returning often!

This was the best zoo I have ever visited. Of course the giraffes were amazing. (There are so many and many people fees them right by where by food but walk down and around the circle and they are on both sides hungry). There fans and water stations everywhere. Kids 4-16 loved it. Each animal area has a "play area" like a hippo that sprays water, jungle gym by monkeys, alligator play. The interactive place has a 🦥 sloth just hanging above your head! VERY IMPORTANT- it is a timed ticket entry. We arrived at 10 and were not able to get ticketed entry until 1. We went to old Town Colorado Springs and walked around and got ice-cream. (Recommend getting tickets ahead of time). We brought our wagon full of drinks and snacks in a bag and no one said anything. Highly recommend.

Enjoyable zoo. Be prepared to walk, this is on the side of the mountain so there is quite a climb heading through the exhibits. The staff are super friendly and informative. The exhibits were nice and clean. There's a ton of animals that you can get up close with. It's really a cool zoo. If you find my review helpful please click like. 😁

Be ready to walk a lot. All indoor exhibits are closed (more than half the zoo). Unimpressed due to a very small selection of animals to see. Many large dinosaur figures that move and make recorded sounds. Some of the animals were unique and exotic. Staff friendly and informative. Not a great place for children under the age of nine. If you're looking for a nice walk then this is the place to visit.

This is a really impressive zoo. It has a great collection of animals. The really unique feature is how it is put together on a hillside. The zoo is pretty well designed as a loop, only the Asiatic Bears are easy to miss, just take care if you want to see them. The zoo takes about 4 hours to do thoroughly. Be prepared for a hike the hillside is significant and it is a long series of uphill walks between exhibits. Not bad, just exercise. Giraffe feeding is really fun, they are especially active early in the morning. Try to catch feeding of the mountain lion it is super cool. Be aware the smell of the primate building can be pretty strong. I don't think I would agree that this is a top 10 zoo in the country, but it is great really unique zoo. My only notable negative was the skyride. It really does not provide any particularly great views of the park nor is there anything special at the top of the lift. Definitely save your money on that one.

This is an amazing zoo! When you first walk in you have the option to feed the giraffes. The way they have the fencing you can pet them and see them even if you don't want to feed them. Most of the animals you could see really well. They had several encounters where you could feed them my girls fed the rhino and my sister fed the elephant. We also rode the lift that goes above the zoo it's a beautiful view, and you can see animals along the way. I highly recommend going to this zoo I've been to many and this is one of the best!! Go early as there is lots of walking and that will ensure you get to see everything before close.

I've been to the zoo 3 times in the past year. It's hands down the best zoo I've ever visited. The giraffe feeding experience is so exciting for all ages. But they have several other animal feeding experiences as well. They teach you a lot about conservation with their amazing staff and daily demonstrations. Time entry also keeps the crowds to a minimum so you can get up close with the animals. The Wallabies hopping around at your feet is one of my favorite attractions. And their Primate area is top notch. With informative employees all around to answer questions and teach you more about conservation. The views are breathtaking, and the food is great as well. I recommend the BBQ place first, but the others are also good 👍 and don't forget to visit the Shrine of the sun after the zoo, it's worth the drive up and included in your entry to the zoo.

YOU MUST FEED THE GIRAFFES!!! Its amazing!! We are members this year, and we love it! We live in Castle stock, so the distance from our house and the drive to Denver Zoo vs Cheyenne mountain zoo are very similar times frames, so we purchased this membership this year! Interactive and hands-on experiences are amazing. I can’t say enough how freaking cool it is feeding the giraffes!! They even have a very young giraffe right now and she’s so sweet!! This most recent time we went for the Safari lights and it was so fun!! The drone show was so cool!!!

I love the location. It's one of the smallest zoos I've ever visited but a lovely one. Like I mentioned, the location - its beautiful. It certainly offered a great view of Colorado Springs. The majority of the exhibits were clean and pleasant. Are the animals happy? Well, the team of interns, volunteers, keeper assistants and the animal keepers staff appeared to have positive interactions with the animals. I got there early to see them all busily attending to these wild creatures. They were handled with knowledge, love and care. Some of these animals were injured and could not be released back into their natural environments. So Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is now their home. It's worth visiting at least once. It can be completed in just a couple of hours of meandering through the exhibits. Also you can bring your own food and drink in. That was super helpful although I did end up eating at one of the smaller restaurants. I had pizza. It was super yummy.

Cheyenne Zoo is the cutest zoo I’ve visited in the U.S. It is a great place for toddlers since everything is safe and well protected. Also, you can have an excellent view of the city, the sky and the animals. I found lots of yummy things to eat for me and the kids, the cafeteria is clean with a nice set up. All the animals seemed to be relaxed and well taken care of. I loved the giraffes’ exhibit!

It’s a wonderful and different experience to visit this zoo because we could see the nature by different way including the surrounding scenes from the peak, kids could enjoy by touching and feeling the s animals even some birds we could see in their big rooms. Sky Ride was a different experience with all these attractions. This was a fun for all ages. At least 3-4 hours of time then we could enjoy more. Please do visit here too if you are planning to visit this city. It’s not expensive and the Sky Ride ticket is just dollar 5 for round trip for adults.

Seriously the best Zoo we have been too. You get up close and personal with a lot of the animals. They take great care of all their animals and it's a very clean zoo. My favorite is feeding the giraffes and seeing the penguins up close! We are locals and bought a yearly family pass because the savings are amazing and we get to visit often! Well worth the trip, even in the winter!

Great Zoo to see animals and interact with animals. The talks were good and the keepers and interns were all able to talk knowledgably about the animals. Beware it is on the side of a mountain so you may be walking up and down slopes depending how you plan your day, but there is a ride available for $3 for the day to hop on and off. It if pretty busy so I would recommended feeding the giraffes later in the day as most people seem to feed them right after entering as it is in the front. They do a nice job making spaces where the animals are comfortable but visible. NOTE: You need cash to feed the rhino, budgies, and elephant.

Was great to be able to finally visit after hearing wonderful reports of the experience. Visited with a toddler and a 7 year old who loved the experience especially feeding the giraffes (take cash for the lettuce) and the budgies! If you have a toddler bring a STROLLER or something they can be carried with or your biceps are going to get a workout at altitude! For any South Africans feeling homesick you can see the penguins from Boulder Beach!

This is my favorite zoo! We visited this time for the electric safari which is their version of the zoo lights. We were still able to see some of the animals in the indoor exhibits and as always, feeding the giraffes was the best part! Lots of good photo opportunities and they’re so fun to feed. It’s only $3 for a handful of lettuce or $5 for two so it’s a fun time without having to spend a ton of money. Masks required indoors but not outdoors unless you’re within 6ft of another party

This zoo is spectacular! The setting is beautiful and relaxing, you feel like you're in the mountains. The animal set ups are so natural and large. You get an opportunity to see so many animals up close and interact with them, most at no extra charge. Really a great experience all around. Best zoo in Colorado for sure!

Been a long time member at this zoo... Every time we go, it’s like a new special experience in one way or another!! Sometimes it is watching them feed the tiger (WOW!!!), sometimes, you get lucky to catch a literal cat fight between the leopards (no lie- we were so lucky. Probably the first and last time ever!!!), sometimes they are in the middle of feeding those mammoth hippos (for real?!?! Craziness!! “Huge teeth” my toddler always talk about...)... This zoo is incredible. Truly not enough time to rave the fantastic experiences...

June 16, 2022. Hands down the best zoo we've ever been too. Awesome animal encounters, the best exhibits period, and it's not a small zoo by any means. Lots of beautiful views of Colorado Springs and the surrounding mountains. An absolute must visit if you're in the area. We will go back next time we ate in the area.

Great interactive experience! You must purchase a timed entry ticket online before arriving. The price depends on what time you enter. We went at noon on a peak day and tickets were $29 per person. You can pet the giraffes! It took us about 3.5 hours to complete the full walk through the zoo. It poured down while we were here but there are plenty of shelters near the exhibits that you can cover under. Would recommend this zoo to any animal lover who happens to find themselves in the Springs. Great views of the high plains as well!

Fun zoo! Animals are active and seem to be well taken care of. Unique experience being at high elevation! Lots of opportunities to feed animals. When we were here they had giraffe, elephant, bird, and goat feedings. Usually inexpensive to purchase the food for a chance to interact with animals. A huge bonus was that you could have your water bottle filled up at restaurants free of charge. Much appreciated on a hot summer day.

I've been to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo a total of four times while I was stationed at Fort Carson, CO. I got the privilege of visiting the wonderfully cared for animals on Christmas day 2023 during the beautifully orchestrated Electric Safari event; I've been to two Electric Moonlight events; and one "regular" visit with my mother. Nothing is "regular" about this zoo!! Every time I got to visit, it was a new experience! I highly recommend a membership, and the advance ticket system works splendidly! All the staff is warm, kind, knowledgeable, and professional - you can tell they love the animals! The interactive experiences are fun for all ages!

Went to the Electric Safari and wow it is so beautiful! They had an amazing drone show that was so cool! One of my favorite zoos. I love that you can interact with the animals. Feeding the giraffes is my favorite part :) Highly recommend going there anytime. But the Electric Safari was so much fun.

Fun place for kids and adults. Interactive attractions where you can feed the animals. The cost for the food is up there so be prepared to bring at least $10 minimum if you have a kid that would love to engage in this type of activity. Also costs extra to ride their lift “sky ride”. Be prepared to do a good amount of walking. If you’re from out of state please be aware of the elevation difference throughout the zoo. I do believe they offer a ride for people who may need it (probably costs more money 🥺) overall a fun experience!

This has been a favorite since childhood! I may be in the minority but I love the reservation system and kinda hope it stays in place. But anyway, the zoo itself is fun and the fact that it is built on a mountainside is a unique experience. The special programs like Boo at the Zoo and Electric Safari are enjoyable for all ages.

It was alright. Coincidentally, it snowed so we had seen only monkeys, rhino, elephants, and giraffes. It was neat still but the people here are pretty rude. We got mocked by a group for wanting fresh air after being in with the giraffes for a while. We spent almost $300 to be ridiculed, mocked and see a handful of animals. We definitely will not be returning to this zoo. It's nobody's fault that the animals were stuck inside but the smell was so strong it stained my mask and I had it with me the rest of the day. I don't feel like we deserved judgement for wanting fresh air.

When I arrived I’ve noticed that there’s a park right next to the zoo which is nice. The fees to get in was a good price. The staff followed protocols I was so glad to see so many Hand sanitizer everywhere you went in the zoo. This zoo it’s pretty small not a lot of animals. The animals looked so sad when I went to visit. Even my 4 years old notice.

Small but still really nice ! They have plenty of animals and also if you plan on going during the summer there is a splash pad for the kiddos that is a great build in feature as well the only complain I have is the food service I got 1 drink and 1 cheesy fry it took almost a hour to get my food I would understand it if it was busy or the orders where big but neither applied also everyone's orders was incorrect so for that reason I would not order food I would bring my own .

We were so super excited to visit here because of all the past reviews. However this feeling changed fast We were extremely heartbroken by the end of our tour. We were heartbroken due to the extremely small enclosures the animals had. For starters inside the zoo entrance/exit/gift shop the lizard enclosure was very small and cramped. The lions enclosure was heart breaking. The lions was noticbly and verbally distresed. There is no where near enough adequate room for a lion and lioness. The meerkat enclosure was visually distressing also. The meerkat displayed zoochosis. There was definitely not enough room for active meerkat to get needed exercise of walking, running and climbing. ALL OF THE ENCLOSURES were extremely small and not properly set up for physical engagement. We were extremely sad upon leaving this zoo 😢 listening to the lion roaring and distress calling was incredibly heartbreaking.

It's a small zoo but smartly designed. You see animals immediately and everywhere you turn. They are well taken care of and the zoo is involved in a lot of conservation programs. Most exciting of all is the animal encounters. I did the red panda encounter and it was incredible. Animal interaction is not guaranteed, but we were lucky to see them very active, running all around us and even putting paws on us to check us out. The money goes toward conservation. It's a worthy cause and an exciting experience.

Cute zoo. Lots of fun animals and very close encounters. Lots of fun little kid areas for them to enjoy. Tickets I thought where pricey compared to other zoos. The gift shop was small. I was hoping for more stuffed animals options for the kids. They didn’t have maps, so we accidentally skipped some exhibits. We eat lunch and the pizza and fries were delicious. The burger and hot dog was not bad but wouldn’t buy it again for the price. Of the zoo staff corrected me on something I was telling my kids about in the wolf enclosure. . Told me I was wrong and there was no such thing; in front of lots of people. It was rude and I was speaking to my son not the other people. I looked up what I told him later and I was right. They lady was wrong about it being made up and I’m a little bitter about it. She could of been more tactful on correcting me; or at least said while that is true In most cases these wolves don’t have any alphas in this pack. But Overall a good experience and the kiddos loved it.

I need more stars to rate this one. To be able to get up close and be able to touch animals that we've never been able to do before with amazing. There were several babies which was exciting. That habitats are some of the most natural-looking an attractive and spacious that we have seen and we have been to several zoos. Kudos to all the animals look very well cared for. We will come back often and are thinking of a membership.

Compared to other zoos I've visited this one is pricey, but fun -- hence the four stars. It's best to wear comfortable walking shoes. Keep in the mind: Altitude is a factor here so drink plenty of water. If you're not used to it, you will feel the impact as this zoo has a gradual incline from exhibit to exhibit. The areas we enjoyed the most were the giraffe feeding experience -- they will slobber all over your hand. Pro tips: Break up the lettuce into smaller pieces so you can feed them more than once and don't forget about the shorter giraffes peeking through the bottom. Show them some love, too! There are hand-washing stations nearby when you're done. Also, we enjoyed the bird feeding experience. The primate and big cat areas were also really neat. As far as kids, there are some fun experiences for them and free play areas. Also, the sky ride is a unique experience if you have a chance to do it, I highly recommend! We had adults in our group and were able to comfortably experience the entire zoo in about 2.5 hours. When we had younger kids in the group it is a much longer day experience, but still a fun one. Enjoy your visit!

This beautiful place never lets me down. It's not just the animals we enjoy, but the scenic views are hard to beat as well. The staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions and discuss the animals. The restaurants are actually good. Wear your walking shoes because this is, after all, on a mountain and will provide a workout! I definitely recommend the annual family pass(other other passes) if you plan on coming to this zoo even a few times. It definitely gets crowded on the weekends and when school is out, so going on a autumn weekday may give you a more relaxing experience and the ability to see more animals.

I absolutely loved the way this zoo is laid out, no chance to miss seeing animals. It was great to see the majority of the animals! I feel in love with the Primates I believe I could have spent all day in there. I did miss the new baby hippo bit there's always next time we go back! Being able to pack a picnic is a nice change of pace. They ever have a carousel, animal feeding and a skylift.

We had a really fun time during our visit to this awesome zoo!! We were able to stand face to face with giraffes, y'all! And feed them too. Definitely a memorable experience. We went on adult night, it was our first date night in ages. I am so excited to visit again. The sky tram is a MUST! It's very peaceful with extraordinary views! I took SO many pictures of the night. The sunset was amazing you guys!! Make sure you check this place out as soon as you can!

I was surprised at how much I loved this zoo! The giraffe herd is super cool, and they have some really creative exhibits (wallabies with no fence!). All the staff were incredibly nice, and because we visited in November, there were no crowds at all!

Best zoo ever! Beautifully laid out with plenty of sun and shade. The animals were active and feeding of some of them is allowed! Some, like penguins and wallabies were not behind glass or bars. Food was also very good and beer is available.

Really a reason this zoo is the 3rd in the nation! So many different varieties of animals here, it will keep you interested. Such amazing views but i would recommend getting there early before it gets warm. There are fans spraying a mist of water throughout which helps and there is a shuttle inside that cost 3 bucks, but if you're hauling kids, it may be worth it. Few snack spots all over which gives you a way to take breaks. Bring water with you but bring more than you need or be prepared to wait for the water fountains, a while.. Some exhibits are both inside and out so if you don't see something inside, take a peek around outside. Either way you'll really enjoy yourself here!

Awesome zoo!! Most if the animals were sleeping. Bring cash to buy lettuce to feed yhe giraffes. $3 for 1 feeding or $5 for 2. Lots of interaction with the animals. Definitely buy tickets a couple days in advance because they sell out quickly and you can only enter the zoo at the specific time you select when purchasing. Lots of up hill walking, so wear good shoes. There is a elevator that will take you up a little bit, to bypass the stairs. There is also a shuttle's that will pick you up and drop you off at various spots throughout the zoo.

Love this zoo. The animal encounters, the layout, and the location. Everything is great. Giraffe feeding is our favorite thing to do when visiting. The food at the Grizzly Cafe is good and reasonable for the location. The donations right when you walk in to go towards your choice of animal are fun. Parking is easy and free, the new(ish) hippo and penguin exhibit is really well done. We visit at least once a year.

It's still one of the most beautiful zoos in the United States. Just prepare yourself for the size of this zoo. Its vastness could overwhelm the weak of heart with the high elevation just the start and add the uphill and downhill of walking paths it could take it toll on average hikers. Take your time and enjoy your walk it will leave with a wonderful day to remember .

This was our first trip to Colorado. We live near Chicago and have some wonderful zoos near us, but this zoo was amazing. It was smaller than the ones at home, but the enclosures were large, had plenty of shade and structure, and were closer to the people, which made the animals easier to observe. There was still a good variety of animals to see. The kids absolutely loved feeding the animals, and the cost to do so did not break the bank as at other zoos. The animals here were active and looked very healthy and happy. We loved the freedom given to some of the animals. It took us about 6 hours to go though the zoo, but we like to stop and watch the animals and read the information, so we go at a slow pace. I felt the price was a little high at almost $40 per person, but there are signs telling you that they get no government funding, so all of their operational costs come from donations and your admission costs. I was happy to pay it after seeing the care the animals received. We would definitely recommend visiting. Be sure to pre-purchase your tickets. You are required to have one in order to enter and they limit how many people per day can visit, so they often sell out.

This zoo is definitely a world class zoo. My family has visited many zoos over the years including the San Diego Zoo as well as the San Diego Safari Park and this zoo beats both of them by a mile. It is a small zoo but the animals are mostly in open areas that makes the easy to see. The Outback area has wallaby’s roaming freely across the walking path allowing up close interactions. They offer animal interaction which I highly recommend. This zoo is definitely worth the stop.

Love this place! I came here on my birthday and specifically to see the giraffes. It definitely did not disappoint. I had the best day at this zoo! A couple things I think it's important for you to know. This is a pretty large zoo so you will be doing a lot of walking. It's on the side of a mountain so a lot of it is uphill/downhill. Also, you will need more time than you think. We went at 2 PM thinking the three hours would be plenty but we only made it halfway through the zoo and then started getting forced out and had to really quickly look at the rest of the animals. We should have picked 12 or earlier.

The Zoo is on a mountainside so the whole area was tiered. Make sure you wear comfy shoes to enjoy and bring water. Lots of fun for the kids. They have feeding times you can partake in and the zoo had plenty of bathrooms along the way. The areas for the animals were kept clean.

I have always loved this zoo. Haven't been back in about 20 years but it still is one of my favorites. Is it perfect? No. But none of them are. We had to buy tickets in advance so almost didn't get the time we needed. Sad to see spontaneity go away.

Fantastic zoo! The giraffe exhibit is my favorite part! Getting to feed the giraffes is such a cool experience! But be sure to walk around the exhibit to feed the giraffes away from the entrance! They want lettuce too! Lots of walking at this zoo, and a decent amount walking up hill. Brings lots of water!! And sun hat and sunscreen highly recommended!

Entrance fee is higher than what I am use to seeing but we as a family agreed that it was some what worth it. We're from Denver and spent the weekend in Colorado Springs. The trip to the zoo was one of our favorite activities. You will love the view from inside the zoo. I love that you are able to interact with some of the animals such as the giraffe, chickens, and wallabies. There's also notes on billboards explaining why certain animals are there such as the eagle. His wing is broken and he is unable to fly. We also got to see them train and interact with the elephants. I didn't get too many pictures because of the interactions we were able to get with the animals. I completely forgot to take pictures!

I am only giving 3 out of 5 because they have the sky ride. That’s a major bonus. If it didn’t, I would give 2/5 based on animals and presentation. Staff was nice and helpful. Also, you can feed the giraffes, hippos, and elephants during certain times of the day which was pretty cool. You can pet the goats and giraffes fairly easily. It is high elevation so required comfortable shoes. You can pay $3 for all shuttle.

This place was magical! I thoroughly enjoyed the giraffe experience. It was so fun. My bestie and I had fun exploring and were thankful for places with shade. This zoo is well maintained, and there's plenty to see. It's on a freaking mountain!! So lovely! It was a bit more expensive than I expected, but still worth it.

This zoo is one of the best I have been to. It’s built on the side of a mountain and it is so beautiful. The highlight is the 16 member giraffe tower which you can purchase lettuce to feed them anytime from opening to closing. Plus check out the animal encounters, they are fantastic! Some of the animals will even paint you a picture during the encounter. I highly recommend them. Check their website for details. You can easily spend the day.

This is an AWESOME zoo! There's a big variety of animals and several opportunities for animal interaction. You can feed some of the animals and many of them you get to see up close. The tiger walked right up to the viewing window it was great. Big animals like elephants hippos and rhinos, small animals and reptiles like snakes, lizards, penguins, birds and many in between. It is up and downhill but it's so worth the walk.

We stopped here after flying in from FL and it was such a beautiful fun zoo. They had so much to offer and it was a very pleasant place to visit. The animals were so well cared and beautiful. A little hard to walk up and down the hills for this FL girl but we just loved it and took our time.

LOVED THIS ZOO! The giraffe feeding experience was really cool and we love that it is on the side of the mountain. That gives a very unique feel to the zoo. Makes it feel like to grizzlies and moose are in their natural habitats, not in enclosures. The paths are set up so you can see the animals from different angles anda wide variety of animals as well. Just a great zoo! Gluten free, dairy free and alcoholic options at most locations here. Since its on the mountain, dress warm!

I loved it! We got to see all the animals and walk all around the Zoo with my family, it was like I was getting an exercise walking and running down/up the hills. They had very nice people doing the service. We got to pet the animals we got to feed the animals and it was very worth coming we seen a lot of places in the zoo. That's why I was writing a review today. The thing that were okay were We couldn't get on the ride that goes down and up in the sky just because it was closed. There restaurant's were closed due to covid. But we still got to do other things. I would say its worth coming. Because you get to the the Lions, Wolfs, Zebras, And other types. We just need to pay 2-5 dollars to feed the animals. For petting animals its free. I couldn't take photos because my phone battery was low. But it was very nice.

One of the BEST zoos in the nation! All of the animals are so well cared for and their habitats are safe, open, and help visitors truly experience the animals up close! The giraffes are definitely a highlight as you get to get up close and feed dozens of them lettuce all at once. Sensory overload to kids and adults alike! It’s so much fun and worth the $5-10 for the bunch of lettuce (don’t bring your own). The Australian Outback is a fun walk-thru where wallabies jump around along the walking path. If you’re lucky, you might catch a baby Joey sticking it’s head out of a pouch. The new hippos and penguins exhibit was well worth the wait! The penguin house is a small building but they are often outdoors during the nicer weather. As you walk to the hippos, you’ll see a large outdoor pool where the hippos like to play. Inside the new exhibit is a lovely space with plenty of viewing areas where you can see the hippos up close. If you are there in the mornings, the kids can help feed them! Inside the women’s bathroom, you’ll see a window that shows the inside of the penguin exhibit, and more than once, a penguin can be seen behind the glass. Staff, facilities, food offerings are all spectacular! Definitely worth the visit whether you are in town for a few days or are a resident! During Halloween, they have a Boo-at-the-Zoo event where you can dress up, and at Christmas time thousands of holiday lights brighten the night during you’re walk through the zoo. They also host many other events and fundraisers throughout the year. Love this place!!!

Pros: Appreciate how they have built very realistic and natural habitats for the animals. It appears that the staff are very attentive to the animals' well-being. Cons: This was my first visit and I was quite disappointed with the number of people who weren't wearing masks or social distancing. Even the ticket attendant wasn't wearing a mask in the kiosk. Update: I really appreciate Cheyenne Mountain Zoo responding to me and that they're addressing the mask issues. Thank you!

Avoid this place until pandemic is over. We came in on a Sunday. The zoo does not enforce mask use and over 50% of adults didn’t wear masks, and many others had masks under their chins, much less the children and people don’t respect social distancing. After spending 20 min just trying to get at least 3 ft of distance from people without masks, we decided to leave and get a refund. The zoo personnel said they cannot enforce mask rule because of risk of violence to their employees. Recommend the Denver Zoo instead, they do enforce mask use and the demographic is also more aware and conscious of pandemic

Great place to take the kids, and get in a hike. Very clean atmosphere and the animals are very well taken care of. My family and I will definitely be back.

  • 5/5 Chris G. 3 years ago on Google
My family has been members of the zoo for several years. We've moved around and traveled quite a bit and consequently have been to numerous zoos in the US, Europe, Africa, and South America. Bottom line: We've enjoyed the setting, the natural habitats, the helpful staff and many volunteers, the special events, and the reasonably priced refreshments dozens of times over the years and plan to keep supporting and going back while we live here. I'm not going to pretend Cheyenne is the best ever, but it is pretty darned good. It's natural setting on the side of the mountain is pretty unique. They have a large variety of animals despite being smaller than many of zoos in larger cities that we've been to. The ability to interact with some of the animals like birds, the giraffes, wallabies, and reptiles is pretty awesome and also unique. We also like their events such as Boo in the Zoo and Electric Safari. The prices are a bit high compared to say Pueblo Zoo, but on par with others like Denver or Fort Worth. A few words of caution based on some of the negative reviews. This is Colorado. The Zoo is on a mountain and you will be mostly outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing. Bring rain coats, jackets, gloves, stroller covers or whatever else you may need based on the forecast. If you show up in flip flops and board shorts in January and ask for a refund, you will be disappointed. Also, animals stink. The zookeepers don't Febreeze them for you. If you go inside one of the barns on a cold visit, it will smell like a barn full of zoo animals. Get your mind right. COVID: It is apparent that you can't satisfy anyone when it comes to pandemic measures. I will say they follow CO State mandates on masks (indoors) and attendance. We've visited several times, and felt sufficiently safe. People are polite and will give you space if you ask...politely. If you expect zoo staff to personally escort you about and give you a 6 ft bubble and whip people for not having masks on outside, you will not like it here. Go, have fun. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Been going here since I was a little kid and they're still open during COVID. Maybe it's just my nostalgia but it's still a great place to go even though you can't go inside any buildings during the pandemic. Yes you can still use the restrooms, however.

  • 4/5 Rhonda B. 3 years ago on Google
This was a nice zoo, really spread out. Due to the pandemic, all indoor exhibits are closed. I also noticed that some of the outdoor animals must of been inside or were moved, so there were a number of them that I missed. You must get a "timed entry" to go to the zoo, and I would recommend that you do it in advance. Normally the zoo is sold out if you try to go on a spur of the moment kind of thing. Masks are a must, but I did see some people who decided not to keep them on... I stayed way away from them. There are a few parts of the zoo that could use some updates for the animals sake, but all in all, a nice place to visit. PS:. At the moment they have 40 dinosaurs throughout the zoo. Most of them make noise and move, big hit with the kids.

  • 5/5 David P. 3 years ago on Google
Wow, what an amazing zoo. This zoo features a ton of great exabits and enclosures that are almost all very well-designed so you can clearly see the animals. Its also located in a HUGE area that allows for wide open spaces, and some wonderful park atmosphere. I was sad to miss out on all the inside stuff since it was closed for COVID, but could easily have spent a good 4-5 hours walking around if my feet had not killed me. That's probably the only downside of this zoo. Be prepared to walk! It will take you close to 15 min to walk from one side of the zoo to the other.

Good thing: everyone wearing mask! I wanted to buy a membership and there were no spots for members , was sold out ,so i purchased tickets. Expensive, but I used the value for a membership. I thought there was going to be more music everywhere. Is a good walk, bundle because is open space so even when was 50 degrees ,was cold. Don't expect much of food, there are long lines for pretzels and the attendees don't seem to get the fast pace environment. So they take their time, they do not use tongs to get the pretzels, some with the plastic globes that they use for the cashier screen, they take the pretzels. There was a place for burgers and drinks. They don't seem to be ready for the amount of people. As later it gets more and more people arrive. I guess because Lincoln park zoo is smaller seems to have more lights, may me hust a matter of perception

We went for Halloween this year, and also went to check out the 2020 Zoo Lights. For both days, the zoo members were extremely helpful making sure my dad had a motor chair to get around the zoo. Everything was clean and everyone kept their masks on. The animal exhibits were great. We got to feed giraffes for about $10. The Zoo Lights were amazing. Tons of twinkling lights everywhere you looked. The outdoor cafes were serving limited food and drink options - definitely try the Bailey's hot chocolate. Yum. The parking lot was easy to get through - not a lot of cars with the way they are staggering people. Reservations are available online.

Love the zoo! We get the annual pass with free parking and ability to bring guests. Love that we can bring food and drink in to save money as we sometimes visit 3 times a week. Started when kids were very young just for an hour and then gradually increased time as they got older, but never more than 3 hours at a time. Always arrived at open and were usually leaving when crowds coming in. Playgrounds, Hamil Family Zoo, sprinkler area were regular stops and we'd tackle different areas each visit. Went year round, even throughout winter as paths are clear of snow. This place was a savior to get kids and us out in fresh air, and we got to know certain animals and their personalities. Thank you for the annual pass option Brookfield Zoo!!

Always a great experience - whether you try to see it all, or you just choose to focus on one exhibit/region. Their "Boo at the Zoo" events, along with "Electric Safari" and adult date nights give some variety for zoo visitors. Surprisingly, this zoo is not supported by taxpayer money, but through donations and business profits from the day-to-day operation. I'm afraid the recent attempts to upgrade facilities reflect the careful cost considerations, and sometimes result in smaller scale projects than originally hoped. For example, the new penguin and hippopotamus display is open and it is not what I expected. We are so happy for their return, but the penguins are in such a small area with a smaller view that the exhibit has built in markers outside the building and down the walk for the inevitable lines to get in to the building to see them. I can appreciate that we want to see them, but they may not wish to be seen, but there is nothing advising people to that hiding places are intentional so they will leave them alone and move on either. If you plan to visit, wear good shoes or buy a trolley pass, bring water, sunscreen and a jacket, and make a day of it. The Sky Ride costs extra, but it's an excellent way to relax and see the zoo and city from the air. For animal safety: no straws allowed, no outside food allowed. When you visit be kind to the creatures the zoo is working to help protect and conserve. And make sure others are too - it's never too early for children to learn kindness and respect! 😊

Fantastic place for kids and adults. Animals and their enclosures are very well taken care of. The ski lift ride is also worth it. I have a 6 year old and it was an epic day. We said 10 outta 10. Highlights; we got to pet wallabies, we were less than a foot away from penguins, we get giraffes, saw lions up close, gorillas, rhinos, fed birds they even landed on our hands for the millet. Cool yutes(fancy tents) at the top you can relax. And sweeping amazing views! We Will be going back within 6 months. Allocate at minimum 3 hours.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the best zoos I've visited - not because of the number of animal types, but because of how close up you are able to get to the animals. I'd never fed or touched a giraffe before, so being able to feed all the giraffes was a new and exciting experience. You can also feed the black rhino and African elephants. I walked amongst wallabies and penguins - another first. Most of the animals have realistic outdoor habitats with exceptional vantage points for zoo visitors. Really nice zoo!

  • 5/5 Libby H. 3 years ago on Google
A great zoo. We have a blast feeding the giraffes and chickens. It was a little cold so some of the animals were hiding or not out. We got there around feeding time so we heard the lions making noise waiting for their food- very cool.

  • 4/5 Josh N. 3 years ago on Google
The zoo and it's concept of adopting injured or older animals is great. The views and location is great also. However, the sheer number of people not wearing masks was noticable. It was also noticable that there was no staff to be found enforcing or even being present to encourage mask wearing. Much of the zoo is outdoors, but there are several indoor exhibits with no enfornforcement of signs indicating a limit to the number of people allowed in at a time. Visit at your own risk.

We love our Zoo. That said, it is not a safe place to be right now. (Donate for the time being) There is inadequate enforcing of distancing guidelines. People bunch up in a bottle neck fashion. They have people entering going two different directions. Which sounds good on paper, but backfires in reality. It would make way more sense to have a flow of people going one direction. It would also help if staff would help usher folks blocking walkways which causes a "bunch up". It seems it would also be beneficial to post staff members in areas with crowd limits. They have signs that say "15" people max ect in the areas like the wolf viewing area. Yet they were packed with many of us struggling to wait our turn without crowding the walkway or eachother. They have cleaning procedures, but it seems that some of the staff are taking short cuts. It's hard to clean a Skyride seat while loading and unloading passengers. They were cheerful, but seemed overwhelmed. Example: Not spraying cloths used to wipe down high touch areas, wiping one arm rest bar as it quickly passes by. Unfortunately there is only so much they can do. We will not be returning for some time, but will donate what we can. I wish health officials would give them some better guidance. We have a great zoo so people travel across the state to go. It seems to me that using the emails from the online tickets (in the event of a positive case) could be used to notify those who may have been exposed that day. Although that may be a privacy issue. People could opt in if they would like to do so. I know health officials are already using this method. Some of our local restaurants take names and phone numbers for just that reason.

As a family we love the zoo. I signed my daughter up for several different youth programs. My daughter got sick ONE TIME for a program we PAID for. Because I did not IMMEDIATELY let them know they kept OUR money and refused to put it towards another program that I would like my daughter to attend. Beware if you are wanting your child to attend events at the zoo because they are money hungry. Sadly due to their greed my daughter may have to miss out on something she is passionate about. At this point I am not happy with their policies and I am afraid of paying for any other programs.

Such a sweet and cute small zoo located in the back of a lovely park. Almost all of the animals were out and about, and everyone was wearing masks as directed and they had plenty of hand sanitizer stations. Great outdoor activity with a very reasonable price. And plus: who doesn't love red pandas??

The play ground set up is terrible for little kids. The steps to climb up are like 18" high. And it continues like that at the top to. The last step before you slide down is about 24" high. Never saw a set up like that in my life.

Beautiful zoo full of education and fun for all ages. So many unique opportunities to interact with the animals including feeding and petting. Leg day is here at this beautiful, mountain-side zoo. The eateries and gift shop are musts, of course.

A great zoo to visit. Lots of different animals you can pay to feed. Beautiful mountain views. However, a lot of the exhibits seemed small, and the elephants are kept in a bleak concrete enclosure. I hope the Cheyenne mountain zoo puts more time and money into expanding their enrichment and enclosures

Hands down, without a doubt the best zoo we have ever visited—yes, even better than San Diego, CA. The giraffe experience is unmatched and unbelievably affordable! About a dozen giraffes walk over and are happy to be fed lettuce. You get an amazing up close experience! The primate building was also a huge hit with our toddler. The playground allowed for the littles in our group to get the wiggles out and enjoy some playtime to break up the day.Our 16 month old walked the majority of the day despite the hills. The grounds are stroller friendly and very spacious providing an extra sense of safety given covid-19. Most patrons respected the mask rules and were courteous about allowing enough space between families/play pods. Several bathrooms were located throughout the park with changing tables as well as refill water stations—both a huge plus!

I've been 3 or 4 times and the kids always love it. Great one-on-one encounters with giraffes, turtles, chickens, and goats. The mountainside walkways are good exercise, but beware if you are bringing older or disabled family members. It can get tiring!

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a wonderful zoo with many educational exhibits that highlight the need for conservation. We love feeding the giraffe, hanging with the Wallabys, hearing the lions call and every other exhibit (large and small). Our favorite mountainside Zoo with the most amazingly friendly staff.

So much to do and see here. We could have spent an entire day here. Many interactives such as animal feedings. I've been to a handful of zoos in the past and of all of them, I enjoyed these habitats the most. You are close to the animals yet protected. All of the animals appeared satisfied, not locked in small enclosures with no entertainment and little food. Many animals featured at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo are ones I have never seen. Staff was helpful. Parking is abundant . Caters to fun for all ages. If you are in the Colorado Springs area, you have to check this out.

This is a great place for the family to visit many animals up close. Feed the giraffes, and see the wallaby group out and about! It may be a hike for some people, but there are plenty of places to sit, rest, and take in the view. Currently they are only doing online tickets so be sure to have those ready before you arrive.

Aways a great time for adults and kids, alike. Great restaurants get better all the time, continually upgrading animal experiences, all-day shuttle for $2 if you need it. There's a reason it's always in the top 10 zoos in the country! Bring sunscreen, cash, camera, water bottle, and, if you're not a native, consider can of oxygen for possible altitude issues.

I have been coming to this wonderful zoo for the past 24 years of my life. It might have changed since I started going, but it keeps improving and is still the wonderful magical place I remember. But visitors beware, it is built on the side of a mountain, make sure you wear comfortable shoes and to take breaks.

We were visiting the area and decided to do the Silent Night event. No talking in zoo so the animals are comfortable. This was the best zoo experience I have ever had. The animals were out, close, playful and a pure joy to view. The views from the park were stunning. Favorite were the interactions and bird feedings and giraffe experience. Highly recommend this as a place to visit.

This place is amazing we live in Aurora and came enough times that would’ve paid for the annual pass. So in reality if you come about 3 times just get the pass. It’s an amazing experience to have a zoo like the Cheyenne Zoo where you’re able to feed giraffes, visit the shrine and get on the sky ride. So don’t second guess it just visit the zoo. Their customer service is amazing by the way big shout out to Korina and Jason for assisting me with ticket issues. Pictures below are from a few of our visits throughout the year 😊

The animals seem content and healthy. The keepers i met are very friendly and willing to answer your questions. The exhibits are great and set up nicely. The map makes it seem bigger than it is. The food is very good at the food court. Be prepared for the hills and drink lots of water.

  • 3/5 Drea Y. 2 years ago on Google
The location of the zoo is amazing but I had higher expectations of a zoo that was rated top 4 in the country. A lot of the exhibits seemed run down no water in the motes dirty viewing glass. Some were great others a disappointment. The inside exhibits were at times so crowded we couldn't even get a chance to see anything. The tickets ha e to be purchased in advance to help with overcrowding yet it was still very crowded and masks are not required in indoor facilities ????. I do love seeing the animals and hope that they are getting the care they need. I don't think I would go back to this zoo.

  • 5/5 Joel A. 2 years ago on Google
There is a wide variety of animals and they are grouped by continent. Lots of informative plaques posted at the different enclosures. There is a lot of up hill walking, bring a stroller if you have small kids. My wife really enjoyed being able to feed the giraffes.

Fantastic zoo! Our favorite zoo we've ever visited! Upon first entering we were amazed to come across giraffes up close & personal, even close enough to pet. We didn't end up feeding them, but the fee to participate really was reasonable for the experience. We also came across wallabys and birds that were up close with an opportunity to interact with them as well, which amazed us too. We really appreciated how the zoo was set on the mountainside, not only for the beautiful views, but for the effect it created of a natural habitat for the animals. This was the first time I left a zoo not feeling depressed for the caged in animals. We were rushing through the park before it closed, but I could have spent so much more time watching the animals and learning so much from all the signs. Value for the money was fantastic, highly recommend!

Honestly the best zoo I’ve ever been too… and that’s saying a lot because we go to a lot of zoos! The enclosures are large and well taken care of for the animals. We observed several zoo keepers setting up enrichment activities for the animals. We ate at the Grizzly Grill and the fries were delicious as was the Korean BBQ special of the day! There was so much that was enjoyable. Being able to feed and pet the giraffes was incredible! We all LOVED walking through the Wallaby’s! The Orangutan exhibit has tons of information about palm oil and how to help with the loss of their environments. Baby Omo the hippo was the cutest of my life, along with the baby lemurs you could see nearby! Honestly just an overall incredible experience! So grateful that there are good facilities like this providing these animals homes and sharing education about them. Zoos are so important for animal conservation!

I have been taking my kids here since they were little and now I have gone with my first grandchild and have to say, it just gets better and better! Not only is the set up of the park perfect, but they continue to add new sections and more interactive informational sites throughout. Example: In the African Park, they had an example of water consumption from an average family in our country compared to Africa and what a wake up call! So not only are there beautiful animals to see but also educational and important information, as well as views to die for! This zoo holds lots of memories for us and I look forward to many more! Please venture out from city zoos and you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful zoo, we fed Giraffes, chickens, and budgies. There is a petting goat area and we were able to see penguins and wallabies very close up. They have a baby hippo. Aside from the incredible zoolights display, the interactivity of this zoo is superior to any other we’ve visited. By focusing on making connections with threatened and endangered species, they successfully curate environmental stewardship. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an exceptional zoological facility, and we’ll be visiting over and over again!

What a fun experience for the Electric safari at the zoo. It was cold but still fun. The kiddos and family enjoyed themselves but, want to come back in the summer lol… we didn’t get a chance to see all the animals due to some areas were closed. The view was breathtaking in every sense of the word. The Christmas lights throughout the place was neat!!! The kiddos got a chance to feed the giraffes and birdies. They saw the moose and the lynx although it was dark they were excited. The price was good and the hot chocolate was on point for the chill night. The staff was very friendly and helpful giving explanations to any questions anyone had. You were able to still ride the ski lift they have. The restroom were clean. If you didn’t want to walk, climb the stairs he elevator was available. The penguin display was so neat and cool the kiddos loved it!!! We will be back.

I really loved coming here as a tourist from MD. I was so surprised to see that the animals were out even though it was a little colder than expected. We had so much fun at the zoo, the giraffe experience was amazing. We rode the ski lift and wow, the view was amazing!!! The only negative we have is that in order to ride the rides you have to purchased the tickets in advance or at the front gate, which We did not. So we had to walk back to the front gate, get in line and explain what we were doing. The person helping us was super friendly and helpful and luckily it wasn't that long of a walk back so that's why we did not take away any starts. 😊

  • 5/5 Katelyn K. 2 years ago on Google
Wow! Best zoo ever! It’s amazing how many animal encounters (or close to it) you can have. Also, the sky ride is super fun and for the adults, good beers are available! Definitely going to be visiting again.

Just visited the zoo for the electric safari and it was incredible! So many lights! My three small kids had a blast and it was a night to remember. They even honored a military discount which was incredible for us and 2 year olds and under are free! The carousel was only $2 a person and was a definite highlight!

  • 4/5 Tina M. 2 years ago on Google
Some of the animals were not out, I'm assuming due to the cold, so you might want to visit when it's warm outside. They did still have a lot of animals on display so if you can't go when it's warmer it's still worth it. Bring your walking shoes.

  • 5/5 Dana H. 2 years ago on Google
The thing that sets the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo apart from other zoos is the number of ways you can get up close and interact with the animals. Most animals have feeding experiences (giraffes, tigers, elephants, goats, chickens, birds) that are reasonably priced compared to similar experiences at other zoos. There are also multiple ways to interact with the environment as you make your way around (two interactive plays areas, beavers dens, caves, large sculptures to climb). It felt like equal parts modern art gallery and zoo in places and made for a great immersive experience. Many of the animals were active while we were there and staff went out of their way to interact with guests and answer questions about the animals. The only underwhelming exhibit, IMO, was the reptile and bird house. It had more of a pet store vibe looking at the snakes. For how well designed the rest of the exhibits are, I felt like they could do more in there. If you want to buy food they offer a decent selection of standard zoo food (burgers, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream), although prepare to pay zoo prices. I appreciated that they sold specialty coffee drinks at the Cozy Goat that were decent. We went at lunch time, and while it was hectic and busy, the line moved quickly. Be prepared to walk! Lots of incline walking because the zoo is in the side of the mountain. I loved the unique views this provided and the extra exercise, but for those not able to walk far, they offer a shuttle around for $3/day. The ski lift wasn't operating when we went, but looks fun! There's also a carousel to ride for a fee.

This mountain zoo is a really nice spot to go with your family ! It is located on the mountain with beautiful views. They have the gondola, playgrounds and restaurants across the zoo. The zoo itself is not that big, so you can explore all the place in a day without tiring you out. So, it isperfect for the kids. The is clean, nice layout and friendly staff. We went there on fall season, so it was really beautiful.

  • 5/5 Cecilia A. 1 year ago on Google
The zoo was much better than your average zoo! You were able to get up close (in a safe way) with a lot of the animals. The sky ride was a very fun and affordable way to see the zoo from up top as well. Would come again but wear more comfortable shoes to walk in.

  • 5/5 Vincent V. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing zoo! Lots of good exhibits and places to chill. Also the shrine of the sun is a goregeous view of area. Had lots of fun taking pics for my social media even though they made me take my mask off for "security" reasons(love to cosplay and take pics) 😆 Only comment on that is if that is a problem I was there for like three hours and interacted with various staff before I was told to take it off 🤣😂🤣 Water under the bridge though, recommend the memberships as it is a good buy to get out more often and chill.

This zoo was nice. The best part of it was that it was literally on a mountain side. The view was amazing and peaceful. Make advanced reservation on a weekend because when we got there it was sold out until 1pm. Then it rained at like 4pm. I would have liked to spend extra time there. The parking lot line was long- but worth it.

  • 5/5 Courtny K. 1 year ago on Google
This was our first visit after it was recommended to us from family that live in Colorado. Our kids love the zoo, but this took it to another level. The awe and wonder they had the entire time made it so magical for all of us. From the laughter, when feeding the Giraffes, to watching the mountain lions being fed and the cute little penguins who follow your every move, it was wonderful. Don't let the "hike" up the aide of the mountain deter you. They have elevators, trams, and extra assistance if it's needed to make your visit what you need. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We will go back next time we are out!

  • 4/5 Gillian F. 10 months ago on Google
Pretty good zoo!! Smaller than I was expecting, but it was good! We went on a rainy Sunday and it was fine. We were scared the rain would make it bad, but they have indoor viewing for the majority of the animals and we got to see everything! Feeding the giraffes was super fun, too.

  • 5/5 Grayson C. 9 months ago on Google
This is a great zoo Honestly the best zoo i’ve been to by far. Wide variety of animals and birds. Fans with mist to keep everyone cool. Very interactive with some of the animals, the first stroll you take towards the giraffes are by far the best for being up close and able to touch. Be prepared to walk 2-3 miles to see the whole zoo. There is an African, Asian, and Australian walk to take and each one much different than the others. There are plenty of benches and food and drink spots to take a rest if needed. The terrain is a little steep at some points. 5 flights of stairs to see the bears but thats probably the safe way to do it (the elevator was broken at the time). The animals had so much more room compared to other zoos that i have been to i was pleasantly surprised. Multiple peacocks and wallabies strolling around in the Australian section was very nice to see.

  • 5/5 Deirdre K. 10 months ago on Google
The zoo is absolutely beautiful! They have a lot of interactive experiences available with the animals. You can pay to feed almost all of the ones that won't bite you. The giraffes are right there when you get there. We saw people feeding the rhino, who was very playful. The non-predatory animals all seemed very happy. My favorite part was the Wallabys. They are not exactly in an enclosure. They are just right there on a plateau. You can't get in there with them, but if they come close enough, you are allowed to try to pet them. They really don't care. I was able to pet Clifford briefly while he was close to the edge. That experience really made my day. I always want to pet pretty much all of the animals. We went through the zoo in about 4 hours. Unfortunately, it did start raining and hailing toward the end of our visit. But the staff was quick to get all of the animals to safety and under cover. My only complaints were that you do have to buy your tickets in advance in 30-minute increments, which can make planning anything before that a bit difficult. But I guess it supposedly helps crowd control... it was still very crowded. The bathrooms only had 2-3 stalls in each, so there was always a wait. And the gift shop had absolutely nothing but shirt sizes for kids and small women. My Dad was not able to get anything there for himself. We just ended up getting a magnet.

  • 5/5 Michael G. 10 months ago on Google
What's not to like? One of the best zoos anywhere. Built into the Rocky Mountains high above Colorado Springs. A great variety of animals and enclosures and daily optional experiences to attend. It is popular, so if you can visit during the week there might be fewer people. Need to buy tickets in advance, which tend to sell out, so best to plan ahead.

  • 5/5 Lauren K. 9 months ago on Google
This is my favorite zoo in the country. The animals generally have excellent enclosures and there is a lot of good educational material. The zoo offers beautiful mountain vistas and excellently planned exhibits (Asian Highlands, Rocky Mountain Wild, etc. This zoo spearheaded the efforts to bring back the black footed ferret. Its real claim to fame is the huge giraffe herd.

  • 5/5 Lily 9 months ago on Google
I loved this zoo! What a beautiful day it was. I enjoyed feeding the giraffes ($3 or $5 bundles). They've got other animals you can feed as well. It was a little crowded today. Definitely recommend it to others. Parking is free. Remember to purchase your tickets in advance too.

  • 5/5 Mae B. 9 months ago on Google
This zoo is definitely one of a kind! We got to feed the giraffe and walk up the mountain for amazing views. You could also feed elephants during specific times, but we missed that. There are also restaurants here to grab a quick bite or something to drink. Word of advice is to dress comfortably and bring your own water! Sunscreen is a must and definitely bring sunglasses and / or a hat!

  • 5/5 Chad N. 9 months ago on Google
Such a great zoo experience!! So first, the altitude is challenging. There's a lot of walking and you will definitely need to stay hydrated. But great exhibits and lots of different animals, some weren't out when we were walking around. Definitely buy tickets in advance because they do get full.

Great zoo with a view! This zoo has amazing views of the city of Colorado springs. There are lots of animals to see, even domestic ones. Advanced tickets recommended... We got there at 10:30 am without having purchased tickets ahead of time so the next available time slot to get in was at 11:30 am. It was worth the wait. The park is beautiful with gorgeous views and opportunities to feed elephants, giraffs and rhinos.

  • 5/5 Marina V. 8 months ago on Google
This zoo is wonderful! Nice pathways guide you through the different exhibit areas and they have huge fans with misters set up along the way to cool you down on hot days. The animal enclosures are very nicely done and animals appear to be healthy and have multiple items in the enclosures for simulation.

  • 4/5 May 8 months ago on Google
Really nice zoo! We went there with a group of ten. Luckily, we checked their website beforehand and saw that you have to buy tickets in advance. The giraffe exhibit was very cool. You have to pay an arm and leg for a handful of lettuce, but still cool. You can also feed an elephant with one $5 piece of lettuce. The zoo overall had cool up close and interactive exhibits. It was a bit crowded, but expected for the weekend.

  • 5/5 J J. 8 months ago on Google
We had an amazing time and the view was amazing. Getting to see and interact with some of the animals was certainly a unique experience. I highly recommend buying the tickets in advance, it cuts down on time and frustration. Make sure to take some cash in case you want to feed some of the animals. You can take food and drinks (just no alcohol or feeding that food to the animals lol). Wear your walking shoes because unless you are going fast, it'll take about 3.5 hours to see everything (well worth the time). Wear some sunscreen, sunglasses, and maybe a hat. Not everywhere is shaded so be prepared. Enjoy the animals because it's super fun.

The zoo is an absolute delignt! The variety of species on display was truly impressive. It was a joy to observe these incredible creatures up close and learn about their behaviors and unique characteristics. The staff at the zoo were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. To top it all off, the zoo provided a clean and well-maintained environment for everyone to enjoy. The pathways were well-marked, making it easy to navigate, and there were plenty of rest areas and refreshment options available.

It was one of the best zoos I have ever visited. I like that they have a set number of allowed visitors per day, which helps to keep the zoo less crowded and allows for a better quality exploration process. You definitely want to buy tickets in advance because there is no chance you get them at the gate. I have to say, tickets are very reasonably priced for a large zoo like that. Plus, they have military and senior discount. We ended up walking around the zoo for hours. There is so much to see and do! Excellent location for the whole family. You can feed giraffes and budgies, admire elephants, and rhinos, enjoy the picturesque views of Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain during the Sky Ride, and much more.

Always fun at The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. We love going for an afternoon or just an hour. There's so much to see and the food is great too! We've been coming here since 1999. Sometimes I just enjoy the visit without taking photos. This time, I just took a couple of pictures of plants and bugs to figure out what they were later on.

This is one of the best zoos we have visited. The fact that is is built on a mountain was amazing. We went on 10/8/2023, the weather was great and the animals were active. Their enclosures seemed like their natural habitats. But even if the animals were not as active, the scenic views are breath taking. Love how they made look out spots to take the sites in. I have already recommended this place to other friends and family making a trip to Colorado Springs. We are from Bryan, Texas and would definitely go again when we make a trip back that way.

Excellent activity if you have kids. The exhibits are great, and you can get really close to some of the animals. Feeding the giraffes is a definite highlight. Don't forget the drive up to the Will Rogers shrine. It's free with the zoo admission. We were surprised that not more people took advantage of it. The views from up there are breathtaking. Literally, due to the altitude.

Fantastic zoo. I've been to both the Omaha and San Diego zoos and while those are also great, there was something special about this one. It felt much more intimate than those. The layout of the zoo is great and you really felt like it was an experience. It being on the side of a beautiful mountain certainly helped the ambiance. It felt more natural than most zoos. Highly recommend.

This isn’t just another zoo! Beautiful zoo with amazing views. Be warned. There is a lot of uphill walking. You will get a workout. We loved it. We ate lunch at the pizza place. The wood fired pizza was shockingly good. We all agreed the best amusement park/zoo type meal we had ever had. You need a good 3-4 hours round see everything.

This zoo is built on a mountain and that alone is a cool feature, but it also had $5 giraffe feedings at anytime. My boys personally had fun feeding them. Sadly there was a lot of construction taking place, so that was a bummer &. Don’t think some of the animals cared for it’s loud sounds. In all though it was a good visit. Make sure to wear the right shoes because you’ll be walking up hill at points.

My husband and I agreed that this is the best zoo we’ve been to this far. There is active construction on the roads but it doesn’t take away from the fun. Feeding the giraffe’s it is so worth it!!!! You will want to buy a few rounds of lettuce to feed them, $3-5. The penguins were so friendly and up close. Majestic elephants, moose and adorable wallabies!

By far one of the best zoo experiences I have ever had. Lots of animals with clean and open enclosures. The views of Colorado Springs are beautiful as well. Plenty of opportunities to see animals that you may not see at other zoos and see them up close and personal to boot! Great reasonable price for a great experience. The only downside is there is a lot of uphill traveling to see the exhibits, which was no problem for us, but could be difficult for anyone that may need a wheelchair or to use a stroller.

What I love most about this zoo is that when you enter you get to choose which conservation project the zoo will donate part of their proceeds to. I also love that you get up close experiences with the animals and the emphasis on education. Here you can feed giraffes, and elephants, and rhinos. As you walk through some of the exhibits the animals come right up to the path. The up close and personal experience with the animals is really what sets this zoo apart from other animals. There is also a petting zoo. The penguins were a highlight. I appreciated the info about how the habitat matches their habitat in the wild.

What a great experience! We came late Sunday afternoon to fill our day in CO Springs and this place did not disappoint. The cold kept most of the crowds away so it felt like we had the place to ourselves and it seemed like the animals loved the lower temps too because every enclosure had active and moving animals. The indoor buildings were spaced perfectly that when we felt chilled we could duck right in and warm up. The staff was also very friendly and helped me get some great selfies with the penguins while they were out too!

We were visiting from Indiana for the first time. I have been to many zoos across US (including San Diego) and this was by far our favorite zoo! I have never experienced such up close encounters with animals and the views are breathtaking! We may take a second trip to CO just to visit this zoo again.

This zoo is AMAZING! 5 star experience. Beautiful, clean, lots of interactive areas, clean bathrooms at every turn. Reasonable food prices. Very active animals and friendly staff. Feeding the giraffes was so fun and the first thing you walk in to upon entry. We’ve been to several larger zoos but this one takes the cake. Winding paths up and down the mountain made it unique to other zoos.
