Had an enjoyable experience. We got here at opening and rented a golf cart which made it easy to go through. Most of the animals were out and feeding so we got to see a lot. The tickets are $15.00 each parking included for adults and the cart was $30.00 This made the total time visiting about two hours for us. Because we got here early we were able to tour without a ton of people. Once we left the parking area was full. I would think being busier would have made this a much longer day. We will be going back and would again get here at 9am. Worth checking out.

A great zoo to visit, a hidden treasure. A lot of trails to hike, roads are gravel, but you can have the option to ride a golf cart around at an extra cost. Animals were active that day. Good seeing them in more of a natural environment. I would definitely recommend seeing it if you have not yet!!!

We try and go once a year to this hidden gem. All my children love this zoo as do I. You are welcome to bring in fruit and veggies as treats to the animals. Food is available for purchase at 5 per bucket. They also rent golf carts which works out extremely well for us. 2 hours goes by quick as we love to stay and watch all animals.

One of the best Zoos and would recommend a visit. You can rent a golf carts or walk around the zoo about a total 2.5miles and there are benches across for resting.. There are wide variety of animals but would recommend adding few others like giraffes, elephants and rhinoceros.. free ice cream at the end was amazing. Thanks..

This is a great open air zoo. Wild life is healthy and free to roam about. You can walk the path or drive the path with their golf carts. Takes about 2 hours to walk. There is a restaurant on premise. We visited on a weekend afternoon, and it was busy, but not overly crowded. Worth the visit. Had adult grandkids with us. We all enjoyed it.

Nice small zoo with variety of animals. There is an option of renting a golf cart for any who may tire before completing the 3 mile gravel loop. Hiking shoes were the perfect footwear on gravel surface. Lots of families but not too crowded for a holiday. Free 3 oz ice cream treat on exiting gift shop

It is a great place to visit. Reasonable priced. It is around 4 miles. You can walk or rent a golf cart for $30 for 2 hours. We walked and took our time. It took us about 5 hours. We packed our own lunch. They have regular bathrooms in the front and portable toilets throughout the park. They have a gift shop and a grill if you want to eat there. Fun for all ages. Most of the areas have enough room for their animals to roam.

Love seeing the animals being fed fresh fruits and vegetables! You can also buy buckets to feed most animals yourself. We rented a golf cart. Made it easy for my 80 year old mom to enjoy.

This was my first time in this beautiful place. I went on a field trip with my students and we had a wonderful time there. Staff members were friendly, helpful, and provided instructions for our visit. They gave us buckets with seeds to feed the animals and we were told to search four different color chips and when you turn them in at the end of the tour you get free ice cream πŸ˜ƒ What I love the most about this place was their location, it’s away from the city and traffic and in the woods, that makes the experience better because you’re more in contact with the environment. You can pet most of the animals and see them in a more natural setting.

Casual zoo with interesting wildlife. Can feed some by hand and get up close with moose, deer, bison and other local animals. The albino deer are really interesting. Some exotics as well, like tiger, camel, zebra. Nice petting zoo and play area for kids. Long walk, but golf carts are available to rent.

Fun experience for families. Large variety of animals and some different ones you don't see in zoos anymore. You are able to get close to the animals (safely) and they have petting zoo and option to purchase feed for the animals. For $35 extra you can rent a golf cart to go around the cart which is a great option if your party can't make it the entire 4 mile loop. There is a playground and picnic area for eating as well.

Loved it there. Was a very long walk and near the end it seemed like we were never going to find the end but that. Made it much more memorable. We got to see the mountain lion and tiger try going at it through the fence. I was too late getting video, I really would have loved to get the growls and vocalizations from it. It was totally epic. They offer golf cart rentals, and if I would have known it was that long I would have considered it, but I think walking was what made it much more enjoyable. Just have to make sure to bring a stroller along with beverages and things because by the time we were through it had been at least 3 hours walking with our 2 year old daughter , who loved the bears and all the other animals. Was well worth admission, which I think was only $15 adult and kid was free.

Amazing time, I'm still amazed how the tropical animals adapt to the Wisconsin weather. If you go with kids buy some food for the animals, they are going to have a blast feeding the goats, pigs and horses. We arrived around noon and it was not crowded at all. Plenty of shade and seats. The chipmunks definitely stole the show....the hunted my 1 1/2 year old...πŸ˜† 🀣 πŸ˜‚. Bring plenty of water and some snacks the picnic tables are very inviting πŸ˜€

This zoo is fantastic! So nice to be able to feed most of the animals and get free ice cream! Great for families with kids or even older family members! You can rent a golf cart and go at your own pace whether you walk or take a cart! It is a few miles around so bring your walking shoes. Parking is free!

Workers do NOT wear masks!! Visitors are not encouraged to wear masks either. Not sure how this is acceptable as there is a mask mandate for WI and workers check in guests face-to-face. Extremely irresponsible in that sense. Cool place otherwise!

Truly a hidden gem! A wild and unique experience. It is like walking through a forest so if you're pushing a stroller, make sure you have good wheels.(Umbrella stroller not recommended) Don't forget to grab a bucket of food when you arrive to feed the animals from start to finish! Every single staff member was kind and attentive. The staff mowing the lawn even stopped as we were walking past and gave us some fun information about the wolves. Definitely will be back!

Fun place to take the kids . Rent a golf cart, it's too long to walk the whole park. Got free ice cream at the exit. Animals seem healthy and the grounds seem clean. Helpful staff. Allow time for petting zoo at the end for the kids to feed the friendly animals.

What a beautiful park. All of the animals seem well taken care of, the grounds are well maintained, and the staff were all helpful and friendly. It's a tad pricey for a family of 4, but I don't mind contributing to such a wonderful place. I wish I would have known about it before a few weeks ago.

Huge zoo with up to about 4 miles of wide paths you can walk. They do have golf carts to rent for an additional fee. Nice beautiful animals that you can get pretty close to and even touch or feed in most cases. Shalom Wildlife Zoo is known as the USA's largest petting zoo. A wonderful way to spend a day for sure!

It’s a nice zoo. I brought my little sister here today but there are some things that did not particularly care for. First of all, we got there at 10am, I was lucky I was able to find parking. The way the parking is set up is not great by any means. Secondly, I understand those who may not be able to walk ong distances but there was numerous times when me and my little sister were almost ran off the road as if golf carts ruled the place. The golf carts also were always in the way if we tried to get close to any of the animals mind you some were sleeping but I did not appreciate being run off the road. Thirdly, Although we were handed a map, I did not like the fact that there literally is ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS as to what direction to go in order to make it out of the zoo without starting to think you were gonna make a second loop. Vending machines should be in more than one spot. I enjoyed the tigers the most, the prairie dog was adorable! It has a nice gift shop, fairly priced. They do give out free ice cream but it is EXTREMELY small container. Only 3 flavors available. The location is reasonable but I would hate to have gone On a weekend. As stated was nice, but is not my first choice.

They have golf carts you can rent if you can't walk long distances. They also encourage you to buy a bucket of food to feed the animals. At the end of the day, they give you an ice cream. The animals are beautiful and well taken care of. They also have a beautiful souvenir store. People are so friendly! 😊 I can't say enough about this place.

Very disappointed in our visit. Zero workers wearing masks inside the ticket booth, gift shop, and grill. Only a handful of guests wearing masks and absolutely no efforts by anyone to socially distance! No signs in place to remind guests of the COVID pandemic and the need to socially distance. We felt rushed the entire time because we were constantly having to remove our 2 year old and 6 month old from the exhibit viewing areas because guests (again, not wearing masks) were crowding around us. I understand that a majority of it is outdoors, therefore no masks required, however, there is still a need to socially distance, and everyone should definitely have masks on inside the buildings!! Drove 2.5 hours to enjoy the day, left feeling terribly disappointed and frustrated. This was our first venture out with the family since the COVID pandemic began, and now I can see why there is no end in sight. Would not recommend to anyone.

We have been wanting to go to this place for so long and so happy we did. We were lucky that it was a cool Fall day and we were there early. There were hardly any people and the animals were out and about everywhere. I loved joining a wonderful hike along a path with seeing wildlife up close, personal, and the added benefit of being able to feed some of them. I am sure there are some who will find something wrong with animals β€œcaged” , but most of these are out in large areas where they can β€œroam” and feel as much at home as possible. My autistic son does not have much patience for watching animals and enjoying the scenery so where it is estimated to spend about 4 hours, we walked it in just over an hour and fed lots of animals. Being single and remembering dating days, this would be an awesome day trip with a significant other or a family. One extra note that I would give this place 5 stars just for the bathrooms, at least the Men’s, as it was fabulous, bright, and very clean. Love this place!

Great zoo for all ages. You can feed most of the zoo by hand, the bucket of feed is highly recommended. We opted to take a golf cart because we had young kids, and I'm glad we did. The zoo was great experience in the golf cart. We will be returning.

One of the best Zoo’s in town and surrounding areas. It’s surreal the wildlife they have. You often times forget your in Wisconsin. Animals live in close to home conditions and they are very friendly. Most animals you can pet and feed. If you would like to feel like your on a safari adventure rent the golf cart. Ps. If you would like to feed hungry animals visit the Shalom Zoo as early as possible.

Great day spent at the zoo with family. Got to experience feeding animals for the first time and it was lovely. Learnt a lot about wildlife from animals to plants. If you're looking for something not to expensive to do out of the house with the kiddos or even on a date, this is a lovely place to go. Not to mention the free ice cream at the end! πŸ˜‹ Only wish there were restrooms closer to the beginning in the trail for those with children who always have to go πŸ˜…

Pretty cool! Very neat to see animals so up close and on such a beautiful property. Shelters were abundant, which kept us dry in a surprise rainstorm while keeping us entertained and educated! The trails are gorgeous, I could walk around this place every day and love it every time. The free ice cream was a happy surprise! That said...some enclosures seemed small for the species/number of animals within. "Feed me!" signs were also few and far between, which made some other guests start hand-feeding (eek!) the wild animals. I think the scoops are placed in lieu of signage for feeding, but we weren't sure.

Very fun zoo! They do need to take a couple of regular port-a-pottys and out in handicap ones, though. It also said it's accessible for electronic wheelchairs/scooters, but it's really not. The gravel is too loose and can't make it the inclines. We had to rent a golf cart, but then I had to stay in it the whole time so a lot of animals I didn't get to see close up or at all.

Absolutely 5 stars. The reasonable price, the great array of animals, and the fact you can rent a golf cart, makes this trip an absolute joy. We arrived on a Sunday morning at 9am, waited in line for about 2 minutes, in our golf cart (1,000% recommended) 2 linutes later, and off we went. How could we not enjoy a trip where we got to pet water buffalo and deer? The staff were great, the zoo is amazing, and the ice cream cup at the end topped off a great day. An absolutely enjoyable trip for anyone!

Cute little zoo that lets you get up close to the animals. They offer driving golf carts through the zoo which makes it a very fun experience. If you pay a little extra they give you a lot of food to feed the animals (very interactive). I would go there again for how close you can get to the animals and the educational factor this adorable little zoo brings to the table. Five stars in my book⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Took my grandson here for our first time visit. Very well designed layout. Animal enclosures are quite large to create more natural setting. Some animals were not seen because of natural vegetation. A little pricey however we did get a golf cart and it still took us an hour and a half to go thru it all. Definitely go back when second grandchild gets a little older.

What a Treasure to discover our new Happy Place that makes the Heart beat, satisfies the Soul, and brings out the Spirit, connecting all of us in this Kingdom together. Words are inadequate to describe this GORGEOUS, GENEROUS, clean, quiet, engaging sanctuary amidst the tall pines, clean air, and beautiful grounds. Be sure to buy a bucket and save some for the end!! I am brought to tears with the incredible wisdom and reverence given to the Native American, First Peoples Nation. Spend time in Indian Lore examining the original artifacts, beat the drum with the Heartbeat of Creator [SO Generous of them to allow], envision a baby in the original papoose harness up close and personal, and allow the Native music to call you throughout the park. The CafΓ© is modern, neat, clean with low tables, high tops and a counter bar to dine at. The Cheese Curds were excellent!! Don't miss the educational cabins with the red bins...open them and collect different surprises! This sanctuary is replete with Kindness and Generosity, thank you all who work there!!

Nice place, mostly dear, with some wolves, coyotes, fox, lemurs, turtles, tigers, a mountain lions, bears, zebras, and bison. You can walk, but if you do, make sure you have comfortable shoes, it's a 4 mile trek and all gravel They offer golf cart rental for a faster experience and buckets of feed, and a small park for the kids to play at the end of your visit. Be sure to bring water as there isn't anything available once you exit the gift shop into the zoo area.

Great place to take the kids. We recently went on a day in the middle of summer that was cooler. All the animals were out! You can rent a golf cart, but I prefer the walk. It's shaded and easy to push a stroller around on. If you do rent a golf cart, just be sure to watch for all the little kids running around.

Loved family day at Shalom, in my opinion much better than the zoo. They habitats are well maintained and animals are well cared for. Was hoping to getting a better look at baby tigers but they were all sleeping. I wish adults would allow room for little ones to get in front and see the animals instead of crowding in front of them. Get there early if you have a larger group and want a golf cart, we had to be separated by 30 minutes waiting for a cart.

The zookeepers and other employees truly care about and for their animal friends. They are constantly growing and improving. The owners are hands on and make sure all visitors and zoo residents have fun, learn and truly appreciate the miracle of nature and animals. Don’t wait! Go as soon as you can! We go at least 2x yearly and I truly consider it my happy place! Thank you for all you do! And also for sharing these special friends with us!

I have lived in the area for some time but just made my way there this past weekend. I was missing out! We used the golf cart to get around although I think you would have no trouble walking through the area as all paths are clearly marked. The signs for the animal enclosures were clear and gave good information. It was a lot of fun feeding the various animals at designated areas using the scoops through the fence. Good variety of animals and was of course excited to see the tigers and new cubs. I’m ready to make my way back!

A very good place to see wild animals up close. We took two 3-year olds. We spent almost 3 1/2 hours walking through. We used a stroller, and our companions rented a golf cart. There is a large variety of deer in the park. Two playground areas broke up the time for the toddlers. Regarding the golf carts: first, for $30 you get just 2 hours, so part of our group had to hurry along, then ended up backtracking to meet us. Second, the carts are noisy and smell strongly of diesel, neither of which make them a pleasant experience to be around. The day we went was not terribly busy, so I can't imagine what it would be like on a crowded day. Not every driver is courteous. Restrooms are very nice! Food options for people are poor off-season. Note that the route ends in the gift shop so be prepared!

We went for our first time for our son's 8th birthday. We took 3 of his "best" friends and one of their younger sisters and parents over Memorial day weekend. We all had a great time. We did the 4 mile walk and saw just about all the animals. We will go back again without a doubt! The only negative thing we experienced, which we do not hold against the Shalom, was because it's been so dry for so long that every passing golf cart gave us another coating of dust. We never had an issue with a single golf cart driver, it was just so dry and very dusty. Otherwise the group all loved the experience and we will do it again!

  • 3/5 Casey Z. 3 years ago on Google
Not all of the animals where actually there and a few of the enclosures seemed a bit small for the animals. Example the badgers had very little area in their cage and there was also a crow in there that obviously couldn't fly around at all due to lack of space.

You should really visit Shalom wildlife zoo. You are so up close to the animals and it is a great place for kids. A lot of learning about native Americans also. Even during this time with Covid, they are definitely looking out for your safety also. Make sure you set aside 2 to 3 hours at the least when you visit. Definitely worth your time!

I have to say, this was a great experience. My whole family had a blast. I think this is the closest I’ve ever got to the majority of these animals. What people say about the parking lot is true, it is a bit of a pain. But be creative within the rules and you would find a spot. The zoo is huge so we rented a golf cart. It was worth it. We didn’t see anyone acting reckless or inappropriate. Some elderly people will pull up really close to the fence to what I believe is because of their medical conditions or disability. We would definitely be back! πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Today was a gorgeous day so my family decided we would brave the crowds at Shalom. Normally seeing a bus and full parking lot is a deterrent but we decided to go. It took about ten minutes to get in but thankfully they had a cart for rent. While $35 seems like a lot for two hours - do it! It is worth it and so efficient when you have a disability and young kids. Very appreciative of the cart rentals. The lady manning the carts didn't really explain how to use them well but once you figure it out they are easy to get the hang of it. My family enjoyed zooming thru the zoo and checking out the animals. The $7.50 feed bucket was a fun little extra. The kids had fun feeding the animals. I absolutely loved seeing the sleeping, snuggling skunks. So adorable! My two-year-old loved all the deer and my six-year-old was excited to read the map and explore. We had a great afternoon. There's lots to see and do. We ended our visit in the gift shop - $50 later, ouch but it's to be expected. The only disappointment was when we paid to enter the clerk said you get free ice cream at the end - the website says this, too, but when we stopped in to get some the employee said "they don't do that." A little annoying they were misinformed. Overall, fun day!

For an entertaining and family-friendly activity, I wholeheartedly recommend considering a visit to Shalom! Our family had a delightful time during our excursion, and I can confidently say that we all had a great experience and are eager to return! πŸ¦‰ Despite the slightly gloomy weather on the day we went, it turned out to be an absolute highlight! The attention to detail in creating the sanctuary is evident. They even offer golf carts for rent, allowing you to explore the trails without walking. While I usually embrace the idea of burning calories through walking, the kids had an absolute blast riding around! We moved from one exhibit to another, and the golf carts allowed us to get as close as we would have on foot. What's even better, they are covered, providing shelter from the rain. β˜”οΈ Around the midpoint of our visit, there was a restroom break along with a playground for the kids to release some of their energy. To whoever came up with that idea πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ πŸ’‹, you're absolutely amazing!

Went here with a friend on a Sunday and we really liked it. Part petting zoo part wildlife preserve. Definitely worth checking out. Rent the golf cart for $30 though worth it. The trials are rocks and gravel the cart makes it much easier. Even tried their grill which wasn't but food if a little slow.

My kids and myself thoroughly enjoyed our time at the zoo. Great experience! We went on a day when it wasn’t so busy because of the weather and it was awesome. The animals were all out roaming and active.

This is a great zoo that hilights WI wildlife. We walked the trail and felt we saw more than if we would have rented a golf cart.

Not very long and you can't even see half of the animals and too expensive

So much fun!! We decided to rent a golf cart for the over 3 mile trip around this zoo, and we were glad we did! Lots of beautiful animals, well kept up.

They have lots of animals there that you can feed, and the crowds aren't too bad. My college roommate, Ty, would love the fact that there were zero gophers on the premises. So would that weirdo Carl Spackler that he introduced me to.

This was a really good zoo. The animals were all in great enclosures and it was really fun. We got to feed deer and pet them which was an awesome experience!

Our visit was great. Most animals were resting from the heat. The albino deer were very playful. We will go back. Kind of expensive.

This place is always so fun! The animals were so active and Interactive in the fall highly suggest visiting now! So beautiful through the forest, Gulf carts are always a blast! We are also excited to drive though in our car starting in Nov, and continue visiting through the winter . Staff knows all the animals by name, and we are starting to learn some too! Lots of great memories with my 3 year old here

This zoo was awesome. We rented a golf cart because we were lazy..lol..walking it would be fine to. Alot of animals areas set up for children. The workers were super friendly. Definitely check it out.

Amazing place to visit. The Zoo is not a traditional one where animals are kept in small places. You'll be surprised how well the animals are taken care of. It's a huge park! Bring carrots and apples to feed the animals. You can also purchase a bucket of corn for feeding. You might need a golf cart to browse the territory. Due to enormous space in the zoo using cart is, imo, preferred. With the cart it took us 2 hrs to perform full exploration of the park. As a bonus, you'll learn lot of things about Native Indian culture. This place is truly amazing!

I really loved the place, only 2 problems i had. One the two tigers were in a metal very small cage like enclosure, why dont they have a huge area like all the other animals, very upsetting to me and others. The bobcats just pace back and forth,do they need some enrichment??,or a larger more natural environment?? Lots of space for all the other animals amazing.❀

Love going to this place! Kids and adults seem to enjoy it. If you can take the walking (around 3 miles) I would suggest that over the golf cart rental, 2 hours just doesn't seem long enough to stop at look at everything closely. Highly recommend though!

What’s not to love? Beautiful animals, reasonable prices, well kept trails, and so much to see! I loved being able to get up close with the animals, feeding them & petting them. Made for fantastic photography too. Fun for the whole family! Highly recommended!

Nice Zoo but the golf carts take away from the experience of the natural beauty of the nature in there. I understand why they have them because some people need but they should have designated days for the carts only or walking only. The walk was easier than I thought with good shoes. If you have small kids you need the cart or stroller with big wheels for stone path.

We loved this! Golf cart added extra fun! People were social distancing so no need for masks! Brought our own lunch then stopped for ice cream at the grizzly grill. Lots of cool animals!!!

Skip this zoo. These poor animals are in tiny exhibits with absolutely no private areas, and I saw animals displaying zoo psychosis (pacing back and forth endlessly), kids throwing the food at animals, and even a lemur with a big injury under its arm. I'd love to see this place turn into an animal haven because I think they have the audience that supports them, but the current conditions made my stomach hurt. Put your money to good use and support a zoo that treats its animals well.
