The biggest animals are the Rhino and Camels. The pony rides were closed when we went. I loved watching the silver eyed wolf pacing about. The Rhino was quite active but all the big cats were being lazy at mid-day. I recommend mosquito spray! Not as many kid play areas as other zoos in the state, our kids commented on this as we left. Overall it's a fun way to spend an hour or 2 in the morning to see more activity. A nice excuse to get some exercise!

Awesome local zoo. Now is a great time to visit: not only the zoo has many cute animals, camel rides ($7/person), goat hair brushing... but also lots of interesting and beautiful flowers blooming all over the zoo! A great outdoor experience! Looking forward to be able to do pony rides again.

Overall was a fun time, wasn't too crowded. Only issue was a lot of exhibits were closed still. Charging full price, all indoor exhibits were closed and a few outdoor exhibits as well. Pony rides are closed. For as much as we seen I Feel Like We Only should have been charged half of a full admission. Other than that, a decent place to go with the kids. Open times are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. right now.

We LOVE Potter Park Zoo! I went there as a kid for field trips and now bring my kids there. It is plenty big to see a wide variety of animals but small enough that my 3 year old will walk it with no complaints. They have both endangered species as well as local animals such as elk and Bald Eagles.

I really like this zoo. I go every few years. They keep it in nice condition. They have a pavilion. Other picnic tables under large oak trees. Playground. The exhibits are well kept. It sure is a nice way to spend the day.

i'm not much of a zoo person, i actually find them quite boring. but i did enjoy the experience and recognise that they do stand out from the competition (or lack-there-of?) quite well. i'm also giving them the benefit of the doubt on a few things, since half of the park is closed for construction. even though half of it is closed, there was still plenty to do. the exhibits are quite small, along with the number of animals there. but they are very clean and the animals appear to be well taken care of. there is a petting zoo with goats, which i thought was cool. there was only one food stand open while i was there, so perhaps bring your own food or prepare to go to dinner afterwards? i got an iced latte that was good and had enough caffeine to get me through the day. the zookeepers are all very nice and have a family-like spirit about them. knowledgable and nice to talk to. talked about the animals like they were their own rambunctious kids.

Potter Park Zoo aka Lansing Zoo A simple zoo. If you live in Lansing, you should visit this zoo. It's your city zoo. Simple. Lots of parking. Nothing bad to say. Good way to spend a whole day looking at animals. Recommended

Potter Park Zoo is a great local attraction and an easy way too spend quality time with the family. Like many things these days the zoo can get expensive quick. Eat before you get there. My personal favorite attraction are the big cats. Not sure how accurate my assessment is but every time I go when it is a bit chilly the tiger is always enjoying laps around the enclosure. You are a couple feet from him when he passes. It always hits home for me how majestic, life can be when I see him. The zoo could do better with PR letting customers know when there is construction that closes a major piece of the zoo. But besides that if your In The area it’s worth the trip.

Quaint zoo. The food courts are closed during the winter, but the gift shop is still open. The zoo was pretty much empty aside from the animals. However, most of the African animals were no where to be seen (and I assume it was because it was too cold for them). It would be cool if there was a way to see them in an indoor setting during the cold months.

We had an AMAZING experience. My daughter is in kindergarten, and this was her first field trip. There were 3 other schools there at the same time, but I never once felt crowded or waited in any lines. They have food in the park, a gift shop that's affordable, a tornado machine ($3), and a photo booth ($7 for 4 slips). There was plenty of parking and a huge park attached to the zoo for the kids to burn off more steam. Plenty of shaded benched areas for eating and relaxation. There are plenty of benches throughout the park. The animals are beautiful, though their enclosures are small. I'm sure they're happy and taken care of. $15 adult entry, $5 parking. As for a wristband, if you plan on going out and coming back in.

Really nice zoo with a lot of beautiful old architecture that you normally don't see at a zoo. Lots of happy animals and really nice exhibits. It's definitely a smaller zoo as far as zoos go, but bigger than the Saginaw Zoo we normally visit. It's also got lots of room to expand and fill out.

Super relaxing zoo. All the animals are amazing. The lion had a lot to say as did the bald eagle and most birds. And we were joined by 2 peacocks. Was very enjoyable. Would be back if I lived here. But when I come back to MI I’ll swing by when it’s a bit warmer. Also the cows and goats were having some words lol. Was funny and a good time.

They take good care of the animals and have a surprising variety. Signage could be updated, as they haven't had a moose in a few years. Even in winter, this place is worth visiting.

Don't let this antisocial cat fool you, but he's the celebrity at this entire zoo. I will definitely be back to visit Pazi! Everybody should visit him!

Winter rates are low and the crowds are less, so I definitely recommend going during off season if you want a more intimate experience. The animals mostly walked right up to where we were observing from which was really amazing! I’ve loved visiting this zoo since I was a very young child, but I’ve realized more recently that some of the enclosures seem…. Small. Don’t get me wrong, most seem to be a nice size, but it’s difficult to process a tiger or lion living in the space they’re given when they naturally roam much bigger areas. Otherwise I think the animals seemed well cared for and I saw many employees working hard to take care of them!

It's a beautiful zoo to see animals with little add-ons. A "quiet area", play and pretend for young children. There are a lot of signs with information about the individual animals (which is a cool way to get your child to read instead of you reading it to them😉) The staff is very kind and helpful, the zoo has a park in front of it that is nicely set with trees so that you won't have to sit in the burning sun. The prices are pretty reasonable considering they are used to manage the zoo and everything it entails. Currently the Zoo is undergoing construction to make the walk ways better, so while we did not get to see all of the animals on our visit we did receive tickets for free entry for our next visit. (Which is pretty awesome and kind)

The Ice Safari they had on 2-12 (also 2-13, and the weekend of 2-19/2-20) was AMAZING and so fun!! They had hot cocoa available and it was amazing to see how active the animals are during the winter! My son adored the tiger and lion, and the otters put on a heck of a show!

Went to an event this month in the evening and it was so much fun. We got to really experience boo at the zoo. The animals were so social we've never had a chance to be that close to the big cats and we've been here so many times. It was really cool! These were taken with like the worst camera too so excuse the quality 😒 anyhow again, as always, it was fun, the staff are always so helpful too at these events and I know we're there after hours so I don't even know if they get paid but everyone is always so kind. I've got a really bad back so people can often see I'm struggling to walk and the zoo staff have been helpful more than once regarding my back. I only wish the scooters cost less or there were a way to get like a waiver I don't know just an idea.

I have visited Potter Park twice during the pandemic. Once in the summer and then yesterday for the Christmas lights. I love the way they have it set up and require masks. It's a thought out plan. Most people are complying with their mask, no problem. I did see 2 people with it hanging out under their noses, but that's it for a whole hour+ visit.

We had a great time at the Potter Park Zoo. You could see employees sanitizing trash cans and people social distanced well. You can only go one way through the zoo and there are paw prints to follow. My 2.5 year old had fun at the playground too. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the shade at a table. The only thing is I wish we could have gone into the buildings to see those animals. Otherwise, I would highly recommend!

For a small zoo this was wonderful. All animals are well taken care of. You are greeted first by the bald eagles! From there all exhibits are natural and the animals look comfortable. The lion put on a great show for us. Glad I spent time there with my daughters family!

We had a nice couple hours strolling around this smallish zoo. The staff was super nice and informative. Saw a couple rehabilitated bald eagles, otters, rhino, and a really weird looking red panda (!), among many other animals like this peacock that followed us around the park. I would recommend getting the family annual membership like we did for $80, you will get admission for your visit plus reciprocal admissions and discounts to other zoos around the country.

The best zoo I have ever been to ! I have never been to a zoo where you could get so up-close to the animals. You could also tell that all the animals here were well taken care of and shown lots of love. The animals here all had sweet little stories of how/why they were brought in. Some were there to be rehabilitated, and others were there because they're endangered. It was so amazing how the animals were given the option of being out in the open to be seen by everyone & then to also be able to have their alone time. My favorite highlights were the bats & the owls!! I will definitely come back for the butterflies though, because it was closed when I went.

Nice zoo. The wolves sadly ate no longer there so we didn't see them. Wish the website noted this as my daughter was so disappointed it almost ruined the trip for her. We did enjoy ourselves and took a slow stroll seeing the other animals. The Bald Eagle is what my son wanted to see and that was pretty awesome. The lions we laying in the sun in the most adorable position. This was a great trip. Only 4 stars because it's a bit saddening to find out after getting there, that there are no wolves. The wolves are only gone to be joined with their sister who's mate passed so she could have a pack. The reason the Bears, elephants and wolves aren't there were all great reasons and gave me great respect for the zoo as I am usually not a fan of animals in captivity. This was a nice trip.

Nice zoo, clean, and easy to walk around. There are currently no wolves; it seems they were transferred to another zoo to keep a sibling company after they lost their companion. Nice zoo keeper talks and fun reptile house. There is a decent playground outside of the park and plenty of bathrooms with changing tables.

I went for one of the 21+ evening Zoo Nights and it was great! Definitely eat beforehand because there isn't a ton of food available but there were lots of drink options and a really fun scavenger hunt information sheet to fill out and get more drink tickets. It made it an adventure and I really enjoyed it, probably more than I have previous years. There was also a baby lemur which was adorable.

From as a young 1 to a year ago to see change is normally good. I was very disappointed even my was to take my grandchildren there to reshare memories then have the balls too charge us from coming in out of town then to get not to mention student discounts but, no veterans really. if you have kid 7&under perhaps other wise to see what was once a great zoo watch discovery channel n donate to the zoo they need help

I have been going to this zoo since I was a small child, so over 40 years. I have seen it grow and evolve and I couldn't be more proud of them!! I wish this year, being their 100th year, was not affected by Covid, especially with baby Jaali, they would be bustling! I understand why the buildings are not open, but I do miss going inside for close ups of the big cats and seeing the birds and snakes and cotton topped tamarins! Hopefully next year! I went today to see Jaali and his parents before it gets too cold for them. It might not be a big zoo, but it is a good afternoon trip, solo or with family. Staff are always pleasant and love to answer any questions you might have about an animal.

  • 5/5 John T. 3 years ago on Google
I didn't think I would get to see one of the most endangered species on the planet when it comes to big cats. The ticket prices were very low, and I would have paid twice twice amount to just see this beautiful specimen. For being a much smaller zoo, kudos in participating with the conservation program, community inclusion with business partners and educational programs. Well worth the cold weather as this is the best weather for the magnificent snow leopard to bask outside in all its glory.

My family loved the wonderland of lights this year, even with the pandemic requirements

  • 4/5 Regina S. 3 years ago on Google
We went as soon as they open to avoid a crowd. Kids don't understand social distance and parents may not make them adhere. Lots of one way signs and limit to one family per area to view. Once you go through you can go around again to catch anything you might have missed. Bring water, drinking fountains are closed. Wear comfortable shoes. Terrain is not always level so careful walking. Lots of animals to see.

Was able to take my good friend who is mentally handicap. The zoo staff went above & beyond to make sure we had a great time. Which we did. All the animals were in high spirits and the penguins were belly sliding into the pool. A day that will me remembered. But I live close so I'll go again soon.

A good family time. Currently during covid-19 they have taken great precautions for everyone's safety which is appreciated. Not what it was when I was a kid but it's still a staple of lansing and good to visit.

There is a lot to do (pony rides, camel rides, bungee jump, etc.) and you could easily spend all afternoon there. My kids had fun and there's a lot of shade to help on sunny days. It's pretty easy to social distance and my kids still enjoy going without all of the usual attractions open.

  • 5/5 Suzann 3 years ago on Google
We are big fans of Potter Park Zoo. Even on a busy day there's plenty of room to roam and see the animals. Staff frequently sanitize high contact surfaces. The staff at the gift shop are very friendly too and are careful to limit the store's capacity.

I went there on Tuesday, which is Bone Day. So the animals were excited to receive their weekly bone treats. Social distancing signs and mask signs were up. Friendly staff from entrance to exit. Small zoo, but loved the light foot traffic. Peacocks roam freely and its beautiful during the fall. Parking fee: $3 for same county residents, $5 for all others. Plus entrance fee unless you have a zoo card. Enjoy!

  • 4/5 Michelle McDonald V. 3 years ago on Google
You could not go in any of the buildings to see animals because of the restrictions of the mandates put on Michigan for the pandemic by the governor... the price for admission was still the regular rate. There is a resident fee and a higher fee if you do not live in Lansing for admission cost. 60+ in age gets a discounted rate. The zoo is set up for one way traffic, 6ft distancing, mandatory mask wearing in most areas. Some exhibits even have signs stating only one family household can be in the area at a time. There were several animal exhibits closed, not sure if they no longer had that animal or what. There is a $5 parking fee additional to the admission fee. Plenty of parking space. Wheelchair accessible. The zoo has a fabulous open green area to enjoy with mature trees.

Potter Park Zoo is great for kids and adults. The animals are happy and well taken care of. There always seems to be some sort of educational and engaging event and the staff is friendly. The park is clean and tidy. It is nice to have a zoo like this so close to home! The petting zoo is closed because of Covid, and they are requiring masks indoors, so make sure you bring a mask with you.

It was a perfect amount of time. We spent about an hour and a half walking around and exploring. Definitely considering the annual pass as it can be used at a variety of zoos across the country. We will definitely be back. Parking for non residents is $5. The fees are not bad at all and good prices were not to bad either.

I LOVE going to Potter Park Zoo. I was happy to see a better selection of merchandise in the store then the last time we went in the spring. I was a little disappointed that the restaurant no longer has as many selections like they use to have. They really need to bring back the hamburger/cheeseburgers. I was also disappointed to only see one peacock. There use to be so many. I was glad to see Jamali one more time before he leaves the zoo. The zoo is always clean and the staff is very friendly. You can tell the staff really takes good care of the animals. I truly appreciate the zoo keepers and all their hard work. I would go to the zoo everyday of my life if I could. Its like I'm go home when I'm there. I love that they work on conservation efforts. Also my grandson loved the playground as well.

Clean area, park and clean zoo. It was nice that there were sprayers set up around the zoo to keep walkers comfortable on the hot days. Potter Park is a nice little zoo, especially if you have youngsters who don't have the attention span for a huge zoo. They have lions, tigers, wolves, etc. It's a great place to go for a couple hours and see some cool stuff. :)

I haven't been to this zoo since I was a child and I didn't remember anything about it outside what I had photos of, so when we were on a car trip and our daughter asked if we could get out to stretch our legs, we figured this would be a fun stop. I have never visited a zoo in the winter and wasn't sure what we could expect to find, but there were still plenty of animals wandering their exhibits. We did stop on a warm winter day (40s) so that probably helped with animals being out and moving around. Our favorite animals were the otters, lions, and monkeys but there were so many more. They also offer a discounted entry during the winter months so we paid a total of $14 plus tax for our entry tickets and you can't beat that price for a little bit of fun outside.

We picked our visit for 04/23/23 as a siblings day, my three brothers and I. We went for my little brother's birthday as he was super interested in the fact that they have a black rhino. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with this zoo. I am not a zoo person, I normally feel pity on the animals, but all the residents here at Potter Park seemed extremely happy, well taken care of, and loved. All habitats were visibly well maintained, and extremely clean. The employees at the gift shop were extremely helpful. The river otters had me in absolute awe. They definitely stole the show! We took pictures in the photo booth, they are $7 for three strips. We also went into the wind machine ($3) and that was crazy fun! I love that they have adequate tornado shelter as well. Great experience overall and I will definitely be back and recommend Potter Park Zoo to anyone!

I visited in March - Good: price was low and there were only about a dozen people there. Not as good: a third of the animals were off exhibit. Yet is an great zoo for a city of Lansing's size. I explored the whole thing and it took 2 hours. Animals range from big (rhinos, camels, lion, tiger, cows) to small (snakes, lemurs, penguins). They have a petting area, pony rides, a nature play area, and camel rides. Nearly all is shaded, so in the summer should be good. Nearly all the animals are outside; there are 2 small building for monkeys and reptiles.

This was a free event for the evening. The Zoo has a lot of events going on throughout the year. The kids love getting out and running around looking for the animals. Update 6/3/23-We went back to the Zoo today. It again it did not disappoint! Lots of new paintings and there are more animals out. My nice loved it❤️

Great big little zoo! Had a lot exhibits and animals, more than I thought it would. Can't believe I haven't been there before. Great little day excursion to take grandchildren....lots to see and do.

Went there for Zoo Night. Would highly recommend. Civilized, 3 free drinks, a good amount of free food, and animals to boot? Would HIGHLY recommend.

So I don’t know if my judgment will be fair, but we did not see many animals. The weather of course is a factor. But the zoo is not big , it is very simple. We came from Grand Rapids to spend after-Ramadan festivity. Definitely, john ball zoo is way bigger and more versatile

This is not a very good zoo. The exhibits are typically very small. The animals seemed cared for, but the living arrangements do not look amazing. I will say while we were there half of the park was closed for construction. Hopefully they are trying to rectify the living arrangements for some of these animals.

As a kid I grew up loving this place and I still do, it's a treat to get to know all the animals and their names, and the employees are the kindest people and take phenomenal care of the animals. They also go all out on decorations for the different seasons, Halloween had so many big spiders and cobwebs and getting closer to the holidays it's lit up with a bunch of beautiful x-mas trees. (If you play pokemon go this is a great place to play it as well)
