My wife and I took our daughters and in-laws here after Thanksgiving as a way to get out of the house. This place was such a pleasant escape for the day! The staff was welcoming, getting here and parking was simple, and the price was more than worth it. All of the animals were out and about in their respective enclosures, and our daughters had a blast looking for them and learning their names. Tons of fun photo opportunities and fun facts. We will absolutely be coming back for the Christmas light events! Update: we came back for the Holiday Lights event, and it was amazing! A bit crowded, but really well done and a lot of fun to enjoy with the family!

In a world post Tiger King, the fact that this is an animal sanctuary and not just a zoo made me feel better about spending money here. It was a great collection of animals, I loved the bobcats, and the albino peacock, and the fact that they have bee hives. They also have a big play park for the kiddos. My only regret was not catching the adorable train they have, or checking out the Johnny Cash Trail that runs along behind the zoo. All in all it was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Lovely place! you can really see how much all of these rescued animals are cared for! There are peacocks and turkeys that roam freely, and a very large open area for deer and farm animals. I went on a cold day so there wasn't a ton of activity, but still super fun to see so many birds!! I really loved the macaques, they were very clearly best friends and never left each others side! The cougars were running around their ramps, it was a bit intimidating to see such a huge animal running so fast above me. I cant wait to come back on a warmer day to see how all the animals behaviors change! It takes maybe an hour and a half to walk around the whole place.

Very small zoo. It only costs $7 to get in. You can walk the whole thing and see all the animals in under an hour. There’s wild peacocks everywhere which was really cool. The enclosures are grossly small for a lot of the animals though, that was sad to see.

Fun for the kids. Out side of the zoo is also a park as well as a working mini train to ride(3$ per person).

Only $7 p/p to get in. A good starter local zoo for young children. Zoo is behind the library. Upon exit, there is a playground for the children to play at. Along with a hike trail with a beautiful bridge.

The Zoo sanctuary is awesome and helps those special animals with a forever home. Docents/volunteers are so friendly and helpful with answers to questions. My highlight was to see a peacock in full plume very close, one for my bucket list. Great walking paths.

A nice little zoo with a good number of animals, great for the younger crowd. Not a lot of the bigger, flashy animals (they do have bears, but their tigers are no longer there), which is reflected in the price. Which makes it great for little kids who might not last a whole day! Right now with COVID, you must buy tickets in advanced online, which limits the number of people who can enter at a given time. They also have one way signs, which was a nice attempt to keep people from crossing paths, but everyone kept going the wrong way at the start and needing to backtrack. This could be made clearer, since you can walk all the way to the other exit (where the playground is) and then be forced to walk all the way back and all the way to the exit yet again.

Christmas wild nights was a great event! Lots of people but it was still very enjoyable! Watching the zookeepers feed the mountain lion was our favorite thing. And the thousands of Christmas lights were a close second. 🎄🎄🎄

I have been on LOA from work so I decided to go to Folsom Zoo to have breakfast with the bears. I brought my breakfast sandwhich and my coffee. I sat on the bench outside the bear enclosure. It was about 9:30 AM. So I aye my breakfast nd the bear and I ate together. I also went to the cougar enclosure and sat with them and had coffee. The bears kept looking at my food as if mine was better then what they ate. It was very peaceful and fun.

We love this little zoo! The tickets are a great price. All the animals are pretty cool to see. And it's not crowded.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. I absolutely love this place! I am so thankful that these animals have a place to go if they can't be in their own habitat due to injury or being housed illegally an they can't be released to the wild. Side note if it is a super hot day, the animals will be "hiding" they are trying their best to stay cool. Totally don't blame them. So it's best to plan a hot day trip first thing in the morning if you wish to see the most animals. There is the little snack shack right outside the park with proceeds going to help the park/animals. An you can go to the playground or kids train (costs extra) when it's running. During the holidays they do a beautiful festival of lights in the park! They decorate & you can come in at night, it's so pretty & fun to do with the whole family. Definitely recommend coming here, love helping support the work they do.

Amazing. I have been going here for 30 years and it has expanded a bit. They even have tables for a picnic and an exit right out to the park. Highly recommend.

This is a great little zoo. There were monkeys, bears, large safari cats, birds, and much, much more. Plus, outside the zoo is a small train that drives around parts of the zoo for a really small cost, I think $3.

This is not a zoo, but a sanctuary! Our kid had an amazing time here and there is lots of info about the animals on several plaques and boards around the place. Loved our time there, especially for the low price!

Tickets are $7 because this is a very small zoo and wildlife preservation - great for kids under 10 and children with disabilities. You can walk the entire zoo in less than 2 hours, and just outside the zoo is a park with play equipment and swings for the kids to extend their enjoyment if needed. There isn't much shade, so bring sun protection and water on hot days.

One of our FAVORITE zoos. The place is always clean, the staff is always friendly, and I love how "intimate" it is with the animals. In addition, I fully support the RESCUE efforts and side of the zoo. Plus, for the holidays, the Wild Nights there are the best! It's our family tradition with extended family for several years now.

Small zoo with rescued animals. Kids will love it. Parents will too - inexpensive. A perfect retreat to spend a few hours. There's a small steam train outside the zoo (not affiliated with the zoo) that runs at certain times which adds to the experience.

It's not terrible. Apart from many of the animals weren't in their exhibits which always disappoints. Some of the enclosure should have been much bigger for the animals using them. For example. The eagles were in far too small cages for their size. And the bob cat definitely needed more space as it was pacing the bars u comfortably. One of the brown bears looked really troubled as well. Pacing back and forth and it's fur was all patchy and missing. I was impressed more by the bears enclosure over the other animals enclosures however. Would have been nice for a store or cafe within the complex and more staff around giving talks and sharing information about particular animals. The staff that we did encounter were friendly. The gift shop had hardly any thing in it. Overall, a bit disappointing.

What a fantastic place to go for families and couples alike. They had a good amount of animals like bears, tigers and monkeys. The layout is a bit confusing to follow at first, but it's very open and natural looking. There's a nice and big playground right next to it as well. I would highly recommend going here. Plus, the price is excellent!

We love this little zoo/ sanctuary. They have both bears and mountain lions, plus farm animals, eagles, wolf hybrids, wild cats, and more. They have a lot of educational materials, and teach about wildlife conservation, which is great. The enclosures allow for close-up viewing. We like to go in the fall/ winter/ early spring, when it's not so hot, and the days/ hours are limited- be sure to check if they are open before you go! Also, the train, gift shop, and cafe were all closed when we visited last Sunday, which was disappointing.

Took my kids there. They really enjoyed it. It isn't a large and busy place, relatively inexpensive, but for small kids it was a great spot to spend a day. Overall was worth the time and money especially if you're on a budget and just want to have some fun with your children. Staff were polite and interactive with the kids, very willing to engage and answer questions. Will definitely return for another visit.

Fantastic animal sanctuary, with lots of space. It's nice to see that the animals have been taken care of after being rescued

My 2 year old daughter had a great time. I used to go to the zoo when I was little and they have really up graded in the recent years. The only downside was that quite a few of the animals were not out for us to see. The train rides are awesome as well as the playground. Right now you do have to buy tickets in advance online which was not a problem for us but spots do fill up fast.

Nice zoo with rescued animals. I enjoyed reading the name plates on each enclosure and learning how that animal ended up there.

Fun little small zoo and so organized with lots of staff and volunteers caring for the animals. We felt guilty only paying $5 for admission because even though they don't have exotic and traditional zoo animals like lions, tigers, leopards zebras and such they do have a big black bear and some interesting other animals. We loved it and would recommend to everyone of all ages. You must purchase your tickets online and specify the arrival time because due to Covid pandemic they have restricted 25% capacity and one way signs to walk thru zoo.

This little boutique zoo is the little zoo that could. The zoo focuses on rescuing animals, and has done a fabulous job of providing as natural a habit as possible for its animals. Check out the playground and train if you have time.

We have a membership to this zoo and go every weekend with our son. It is such a great place to visit! We love that it is a small zoo and that you can see the animals up close. Highly recommend!

Ok place but most of the cages were empty. Some wolf-dog hybrids and some birds. Good place for toddlers. If you are looking forward to seeing actual animals I would recommend going to a different zoo.

Beautiful day at this small zoo. Perfect outing for small children. A few bears, monkeys, farm animals, birds, opossum, racoon, bobcat, mountain lion, wolves. Very doable for a couple hours. The little train is a favorite for kids, $3 per person. Admission to the zoo is $7, under 2 free.

Took our girl scout troop to see the lights and animals this Evening. It was beautiful. Unfortunately it was hard to see a lot of the animals as it was too dark or they weren't out. But it was a beautiful night tour for the troop.

We haven't been to the Folsom Zoo in years (30+). A lot has been done to make it look much better. Many of the cages have the misters in them to keep the animals and fowl cool.

The zoo is not too big but the animals are worth seeing. It was amazing just to see the bear. He was walking around and eating and that was early in the morning and after that he was not awake. In order to see the bear I believe you should try and see him before it hits afternoon time. It was really cool to see deer walking around. The parking was free and it costs about $6-7 to get in. They had a barn which had goats and a horse and a few other animals. Overall it is a very nice zoo to visit and has some animals that they do not have at sac zoo.

Fun place to take the family. The zoo is well maintained and the staff is friendly. My only minor complaint is the bears aren't ever at when we're there.

  • 5/5 Mariah R. 9 months ago on Google
Absolutely love this zoo and the work they do. It's grown a bit over the years and is a great place to visit for some animal education. All the animals are unable to live in the wild and have their stories of how they got to the zoo posted by each enclosure.

I love what they are doing here. The place is awesome! They help any kind of animal that need it. From wild cats and bears to ravens. They have all kinds of animals. Even a horse and raccoon.

Great place for kids, they put a lot of thought into every ecosystem to immerse yourself with the animal, Great kids play area, train ride is super cute.

Lovely location. You can tell how well-loved each of these rescued creatures is! There are free-ranging peacocks and turkeys, as well as a sizable open space for deer and farm animals. I visited on a chilly day, so there wasn't a lot going on, but it was still amazing to watch so many birds! The macaques were adorable; they were obviously great buddies and never left each other's side. The cougars were circling their ramps, and seeing such a large animal moving so quickly above me was a little unnerving. I can't wait to return on a warmer day to observe how the behaviors of every animal alter! Walking takes about an hour and a half.

Very cute little zoo. It seems like they are adding more animals all over the place. Very cheap to get in.

This is one of my favorite zoos. They have great animals, it’s big enough to get a good zoo experience but small enough you can do it quickly. We love having a season pass and taking the kids frequently throughout the year for just a few hours.

Took my 9 year old grandsons to the zoo, picnic and ended with a train ride. I had as much fun as the boys did.
