An interesting aquarium, it has many and different species. You can spend two hours here without getting bored. This is perfect for a rainy day. I like that they show the effect of plastic usage on the environments. The price for adults is 285 NOK, the opening hours in winter is 10:00 - 18:00. Check the programs online. There are many interesting programs specially in the morning.

It is one of the must visit place i Bergen. Especially for kids, they will love Penguins show; sea lion show is amazing; and fishes are mind blowing. My daughter loves going there mainly for fishes and playground. Kids friendly place, good WC facilities. Honestly, a bit expensive tickets and food but all in all deserved 5/5 ratings. Staffs are friendly and speak English nicely so it was nice experience. Recommend it.

Nice place to visit when in Bergen. Although the city and surroundings offer plenty to see and do, if you are with kids, the aquarium is a nice place to visit. Not extremely big, it is nicely built and children will love the variety of animals and activities. Plenty of educational activities and even a cinema. For the adults there is a huge amount of information about the sea life of Norway, from the Fjords to the sea. Time well spent.

Mediocre at best. There was a very limited selection of sea animals. It lacked some basic species I had expected to see in Norway such as seals, polar bears, puffins, salmon, and other classic aquarium animals like dolphins and sharks. The movies are in Norwegian without subtitles in English or any other translation device. Fine way to spend an hour on a rainy afternoon, however.

Bergen aquarium was opened on 27 August 1960. It was then Northern Europe's largest and most modern aquarium. It is still Norway's largest aquarium. The aquarium has more than 300 species and over 60 large aquariums. In a marine aquarium you can see from the outside and inside: penguins, sea lions and otters. Inside the bilding you can see large fish, snakes, crocodiles, spiders, lizards and other exotic animals. Kids can enjoy large playground on the roof terrace of the Aquarium.

A well maintained place, really nice to see a lot of children around enjoying their experience between all animals. The aquarium is non so big but good organised enough . We accessed for free with our Bergen card. Moreover the aquarium is at the top of a hill with a suggestive point of view for a relaxing moment.

The place was bigger than I expected. Lots of different fish to check out. Very informative as well. Sometimes I did feel like perhaps the animals didn't have sufficient space, especially outside.

Soviet era standards come to mind. Many viewing glass housings closed off. Only recommended if your kids are very young and they don't know better. Unlike the Soviet era, it has a bourgeois price model. $$$

As it was our last day in Bergen and it was raining all day, we spent it indoors at the aquarium, and probably spent about 4 hours here since there was so much to see! Our favorite were the sea lions as they incredibly entertaining with a lot to say and show off! We walked right in, only looking up prices beforehand and there were no waits or extra costs. Only suggestion is to have lockers in the main areas by toilets as we had to carry our bags and rain jackets with us the whole time and got bulky when trying to look at all the tanks.

Such an amazing aquarium! Perfect for a nice day out. The animals are clearly well taken care of and the place is beautifully set up. There was plenty of information about the fish and animals but not enough where it felt overwhelming to read. A great place if you’re looking for something to in Bergen.

Cute little aquarium. Saw the sea lion show. It was in Norwegian and English. A decent amount of exhibits with placards in both languages as well. There is a place to grab a bite to eat or ice cream. Restrooms throughout the place. Elevator for those who have trouble with stairs. Small gift shop. There is also an outdoor playground.

(Translated by Google) As usual a nice trip to the Aquarium, but do not get a full score, as it seems worn and not well enough maintained and a large polar bear with cobwebs on should perhaps not be the standard ... Plus for interactive Quiz and that the children could make their own electronic fish and put it out on the screen and watch it swim around ... Seems like the Aquarium needs more funds to be able to refurbish and get up to standard, a little kick to the local politicians in Bergen ...

Not worth the time or money. The sea lion was the only nice thing about this trip. There was a very bad smell in the place. The penguins show was very boring. There’s no enough light in the fish tanks. Fish tanks are very dirty. The place is not following COVID-19 restrictions.

  • 5/5 Andreas J. 3 years ago on Google
When considering the limited scope of the facilities it's a great place. It manages to cover a large number of biotopes and species, will well kept tanks and displays. It's at it best with the small to medium displays, especially from Norwegian waters. The shark tank and stuff like that are fair, but small. If you're bringing kids, all the tanks have cushioned ledges in front of the tanks, letting the small ones easily get up and get a look. It's also not so large as to completely bore the little ones that are not that enthusiastic about animals etc. The sea lion show was fun, with obviously enthusiastic animals. I can recommend it all.

  • 5/5 Siri J. 4 years ago on Google
As a Norwegian, I love that the aquarium has this well of species and information from our own marine environment. And then you get a lot from the exotic world in addition. It seems to me "the locals" have optimal habitats, each with their particular needs taken into account.

  • 1/5 Peter K. 3 years ago on Google
The prices are quite high and when you enter the you will become very disappointed when you figure out how small the akvarium is. All animals have very small cages. The sharks are swimming in circles. If you enjoy looking at animals not thriving, please visit this place. Not satisfied at all with this "experience"

Penguins were very cute! We watched both the otter and penguin presentations. They even did it in English (besides Norwegian) just for us two, which was very nice. Nice presentations and a little feeding of the animals. Inside the are several aquaria with all types of fishes. There is also snakes and crocodiles. Even a couple of little monkeys. Some very cool exhibits. Maybe the price was a bit high for the size of the aquarium though. I'm used to paying less for a complete zoo including a bigger aquarium than this back home. But I still recommend it. Make sure to catch the presentations!

Can’t give more stars. Some animals are kinda crammed, with a small place to live and with a lot more animals. There were 2 sharks doing circles all the time at a small pool, it was sad. As a plus point I’ve to say animals look so cared and their habitats so clean. I recommend yo going only if you have the Bergen pass, don’t worth the money it cost.

  • 5/5 Alessandro C. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely place in Bergen, lot of animals protected from endangerment due to humans. You can see penguins (a full colony, each one is named and recognizable), sea lions (Amy and Kim, lovely!), otters (Bella and Gizmo, super lovely!), spectacle caiman (Idar, very tough one!), fish of all kinds, insects, huge spiders, as well as snakes and amphibians. Round hall with fish of Norwegian shores is astonishing!

Amazing aquarium. Despite its small size, we can find different species and discover some amazing facts. The live shows are really great and the staff is amazingly funny. We got to see them feeding the penguins and I got to say, it was hilarious.

Brilliant place to visit. You can really get up close to the tanks. Penguins, sealions, sharks, otters and crocodiles are just a few of the star attractions. Clean, tanks were well kept and the staff in the shopp were very welcoming.

The Bergen Aquarium is a fun and educational place to visit. The outdoor area features penguins, otters, and sealions. Inside you will find lots of fish species from around the world. Descriptions are in norsk and english and you can learn a lot about the animals and thr eco systems they live in. Though the entry fee is nit cheap, you can spend hours and hours here without getting bored. Great for kids.

  • 5/5 Samuel C. 1 year ago on Google
Great aquarium. Very good for kids but also for adults. You got some discount with Bergen card. Many beautiful species. But there are also some spiders, lizards, ceocodiles or snakes. You can see feeding of penguins or sea lions. They are stunning. For kids there is lot of games, where they can learn a lot about sea, animals and underwater life. And if you got lot of time there is a cinema with short films.

  • 4/5 Rowena R. 1 year ago on Google
It's compact size means you can get around in about an hour, but we took our time and enjoyed a 3 hour visit, avoiding the talks and shows. There's plenty of seating and quiet corners (there were a LOT of small kids today! ) We got 25% discount with Bergen card on the entry fee but still feels a bit pricey. Still a nice way to spend a rainy afternoon. (I really hope the eel finds a way to untangle himself, kinda wanting to check back on him tomorrow).

Akvariet, the aquarium of Bergen, is located about 20 minutes walk from the center, in Nordnesbakken street, at number 4. Although it is a bit strange given that it is located in Norway, part of the aquarium is dedicated to fish and tropical animals. There is a terrarium with giant spiders, snakes. Great way to spend a morning especially with children.

  • 5/5 Bjorn Lammers (. 1 year ago on Google
Very good place to visit for some entertainment in Bergen! The aquarium has many species of fish but also some tropical reptiles and insects. Prices aren't too high.

  • 4/5 Sorin T. 1 year ago on Google
The place looks great and it has a decent variety of animals. It was a good experience, but nothing extraordinary. Ticket price was a bit..high, but it is understandable. Food prices at the cafeteria on the other hand...just eat somewhere else before visiting. But I was amazed quite a few times by the variety and some of the animals they have and per totally it was a good experience It's definitely worth to go if you are visiting Bergen, or even if you live there!

  • 4/5 Megan C. 1 year ago on Google
I really enjoyed my visit to the Bergen Aquarium. They feature species local to the Bergen area and Arctic as well as tropical species. And they have quite a few reptile species like crocs and caimans as well. The restaurant was nice, though I wish they had instructions on how you order in English as well as Norwegian. I understand why they don't though. We picked a great day to go as there weren't many people there. Would definitely recommend going on a weekday in the winter. With the Bergen Card, entrance was free, so it's worth getting it if you're visiting from out of town.

  • 5/5 Claire W. 8 months ago on Google
We had a great time at the Aquarium. My kids (16 & 12) really enjoyed our visit. One of the highlights of our trip to Bergen. There is lots to see.....penguins, otters, reptiles, fish but I think our favourite was the Sea Lions. They were a lot of fun to watch. We didn't get a chance to visit the cafe so we can't comment. Number 11 bus takes you up to the Aquarium from the Harbour area. We ended up having to walk all the way up but take the bus if u can. Good fun day out! We also got 20% off the ticket price with the Bergen card.

  • 5/5 Lissy E. 8 months ago on Google

It was a nice hangout with my kid as there was a playground for the kid as well as the sea animals all around fishes, sea lion, penguins, crabs and varieties of sea animals....People can go with their families and friends and enjoy the view the animals only thing it is very small aquarium like very small

  • 5/5 Vika Z. 11 months ago on Google
Penguins are so adorable ❤️ I spent maybe 30 min in total staring at them. But it felt like they didn't have enough space for swimming so they can enjoy it 🙁 Sea lions are very curious when you look at them through the glass. The aquarium is small, but still a nice place to go and check out some sea life.

  • 5/5 Michael G. 8 months ago on Google
I'm so happy I decided to go here! This aquarium is around a 30 minute walk from Bryggen, and has a variety of fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and more. The first thing you're greeted with are the wonderful Gentoo penguins, we got lucky enough to see them sitting on eggs! They were also generally very playful. But yeah definitely come here if you like animals!

  • 5/5 Dani A. 7 months ago on Google

I liked it, because there are some species I haven't seen before. It is very nice for the families with kids, because there are some tunnels with surprises for kids only and a nice playground outside. There is a cafeteria at the terrace where you can taste a very good ice cream, too.

It was wonderful to be able to watch the penguins so close! We loved it! We visited Bergen on a cruise and had just a few hours, but made it a priority to get to the Aquarium and it was well worth the walk there, we enjoyed it a lot! Took an Uber back to the port. The staff is super friendly and helpful, thanks all!

  • 4/5 Sindre H. 7 months ago on Google
Hadn’t been to Akvariet in forever! Went with a friend who was visiting. They’ve moved/changed a lot of stuff! Including where the penguins was, the otter place was new, etc etc. A lot inside is still the same though. It was fun! A little tropical exhibit inside with big turtles and tiny tiny frogs. Saw 2 presentations, one for penguins and one for the otter, very informative, which I enjoyed! Saw one 12min «movie» in the cinema. Fun enough, but the sound quality is terrible, so hopefully they can fix that. I also found a penguin with my name which was unexpected and fun haha

  • 5/5 Andréa Nascimento S. 4 months ago on Google
It was very pleasant. There are many presentations going on all day at the aquarium. Great place to learn about the sea life on the Norway coast line. Suitable for all ages.

  • 5/5 Joachim B. 3 months ago on Google New
A wonderful aquarium with the chance to get a lot of different impressions about life in and above the water. Not cheap as a lot of things in norwegian but this is a place which is its money worthy. I was impressed by the big tanks with these giant cods in the blue dark. Scary and fascinating at the same time. Very nice those floating - "petriefied" - aligators also. Good spot for having nearby views about why we always should be aware, that we only share this planet.
