Call me old fashioned, but all I ask from a bistro/restaurant is... serve me hot food, in fair portions that appears to have had a little effort put into it. I've been to Thyme twice now, and on both occasions, they've excelled in each metric. You might laugh, but lukewarm food seems to be a trend nowadays, but not for Thyme — always piping hot, fresh and bearing the hallmarks of 'made right now, entirely from scratch... just for you... no warmed-up nonsense here.' On each visit, I ordered form the set menu; going for the burger both times. Good lord. Huge! Huge, piping hot & tasty. The presentation is quite something, too... and that is what I mean about 'effort' — these guys excel in the areas other restaurants often overlook; final execution. Everything is so beautifully arranged/assembled on the plate (or board if you order a burger). Today, I ordered the Crispy Cajun marinated chicken burger and it looked majestic — not just huge, but meticulously presented. In fact, such was the display, that I felt as though eating it would undermine the chef's diligence and craft. I did eat it, of course, and the taste matched the sight — elite! For dessert, I ordered the apple & blackberry crumble. In a word... otherworldly. Top 3 crumbles of all time, easily. The topping had bite and crunch, while the filling was chunky, smooth and sweet... but crucially, not sickly sweet. Beautifully balanced. Of course... it was hot, now warm, hot! Bravo. Finally, the team — always friendly, always attentive, always make you feel at home. Love this place — a real gem.

Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff. Nice you can book online to secure a table. Food was lovely - nice to get a proper pie (not just a lid) and the steak filling was delicious. The Spanish stew from the specials board was also delicious. Big dessert portions. I chose the bread and butter pudding.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday. I do recommend booking in advance because it fills up quick. They had lots of vegetarian options, which seemed to be their forte, but also some for us non veggie. Portions size was great, I almost couldn't finish mine. Few but good kiddie options. I wasn't a fan of the menu on the wall, which was written a bit small and if it wasn't right in front of your table you had to stand around to read, but that's just me. Someone else might find that delightful.

We arrived at a Saturday lunchtime, it was very busy but we were given a table straight away. Very nice ambiance and extensive blackboard menu. The fish & chips were excellent, the fish was superbly cooked. The vegetarian salad was nice with many ingredients, although I expected the roasted butternut squash to be warm. The halloumi was slightly warm, but I would have preferred the other ingredients to be closer to room temperature than fridge cold.

Great find, food was excellent portions were huge. The four meet Sunday lunch is a must on any Sunday. The sticky toffee pudding is one of the best I have had. The normal menu looks good too can't wait to try it out soon. Staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

It had been a good experience until I got my main course. I had the prawn pasta which seems to lack any salt whatsoever - unlike any pasta I’ve had before both in the UK and in Italy - and when I politely pointed this out to the waiter, she flat out refused to acknowledge the issue. She said that this dish is not meant to be salty, and that the salt would have covered the garlic chilli favour - this is an absurd thing to say given the dish is supposed to be savoury and salt is a flavouring agent not a competing flavour. Not to mention the pasta did not taste like under salted but NONE salted. I would have given a more positive review had it just been a mistake in the kitchen and the waiting staff didn’t come off as defensive and unprofessional. Ham hock Bellatine and halloumi fries are delicious tbf. The pork belly starter was overly salty, though has very good flavour otherwise.

Once one of our favourite haunts, this place has descended into an average place with expensive wines. The waitress has no personality, the food is average and not all offerings were available. Pie of the day is £16 yet the best pies in Sheffield at The Broadfield are pounds cheaper with excellent quality. We won’t be going back unfortunately.

Nice place and vibe. Nice staff. For Sunday dinners if you had no dietary requirements I can imagine it to be rather good. However there is limited to No dairy free options. And the veggie Sunday roast Is not the best I’ve had but not the worst. But the nut roast was covered in a tomato sauce, which i thought would be a great soup but simple NOT an alternative for gravy. but NO VEGGIE GRAVY!!!??(Madness)

My favorite place to eat in the entire of Sheffield, has been for god knows how many years. The foods all amazing and they have such a variety. I know lots of broke uni students go there and the £5 kids fish and chips is more than enough portion wise and easy on the bank account. Always the most lovely staff too. Couldn't reccomend thyme more

Great choice: Menu + Boards & Specials. Reasonable prices. Excellent service. 3 of us chose different dishes, all of us enjoyed lovely food. Attractive patio area, will come back when it's hot to eat outside.

Disappointing. Visited with family for new year, but because we were a large group we pre chose our meals. Even so, the starters did not arrive for 35 minutes after our booked time, and when they arrived were nice but very small, not the amount you'd expect for the price. When our mains arrived, most of them were lovely with good portions however a few of our group had ordered a pasta dish which was very disappointing. It was literally just pasta, an extremely large amount of chili flakes, garlic, prawns and oil- no actual sauce. Desserts were mostly really lovely, however cheese board was not worth the price. It was just a very small amount of stilton worth maybe 50p and a couple of crackers.

Great small restaurant in Broomhill with a lovely atmosphere, good selection of quality homemade food and craft drinks with very welcoming and lovely staff on arrival, who take care from start to end to enjoy my time there. Highly recommend for lunch and dinner time or any occasion :) Thank you. I will definitely be back again :)

Not sure why this place comes up as one of the top results for “brunch” in Sheffield. We had gone out in search of breakfast and were a little confused when the wait staff (nicely) informed us that Thyme don’t actually serve breakfast… at all. We were hungry and did stay for non-breakfast food which was tasty and well presented, but we clearly ordered wrongly as everyone else around us had ordered the Sunday roasts which looked looked amazing! Definitely going back to try.

My new favourite restaurant. Friendly atmosphere and the staff are lovely. I had Risotto with Red Pepper and Feta and then the Lime and Passion fruit Cheesecake that was divine. Little pricey, but the food and service is worth it. Next time I go, I'm definitely trying the Tiger Prawn spaghetti. It's in easy walk of the 52, 120 and 30 bus routes.

Excellent quality food and atmosphere. Unfortunately I chose the 3 meat Sunday roast which proved too much for me so I gave quite a lot away. However, no complaints the food was great.

Flawless. Great efficient service, fantastic food. Sadly could only manage the main course but that's because the portion was so filling! Looking forward to my next visit already.

Fantastic food as always. Fair prices. I had the burger which was really substantial and tasty, they put a lot of effort into making that really good.

Walked into a delightful decor and a lovely hubbub of noise during a busy lunch. Our server was fantastic, friendly and efficient. The food was great, a massive menu cooked by a swift team in the kitchen, all presented beautifully. The beer lines were so clean a pint of lager tasted like a holiday. Will be returning!

We’ve been going to Thyme Cafe for years and it NEVER disappoints. There’s something for everyone on their ever-changing seasonal chalkboard menu, that’s full of specials as well as firm favourites such as the prawn and chilli spaghetti and best sticky toffee pudding. Whether it’s date night or taking our parents out for our annual New Year’s Eve meal, the chilled atmosphere and lovely food is always spot on. There’s even a delicious kids menu that’s full of ‘proper’ food, rather than the usual beige grub other places stick on the kids menu. Our kids have been enjoying it since they were old enough woof it down! They were so accommodating too, when I accidentally ordered something I didn’t like. Amazing service. Brill place 👌🌟👏.

Excellent place for lunch. We had a selection of small plates to share. The food was excellent. And the place is very welcoming with friendly helpful staff.

This is a small independent business that serves excellent food and can always be relied upon to please. The menu is varied and as we went on a Sunday, they also do Sunday roast. There were 4 specials as well as an extensive range of food on the menu. Everything fro a bacon sandwich, or piece of cake, to chorizo covered cod loin with samphire potatoes and a prawn chowder. All three of us chose differently and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service is friendly and efficient and this place takes alot to be beaten. We definitely recommend 👌 👍

Been going here for years and always enjoyed it. However went a couple of Sundays ago and the Sunday dinner was really disappointing. All veg rock hard meat fatty. Very underwhelming! It will probably come back but not for the roast.

Popular place on the Friday night we had booked, luckily. Great choice of dishes on the menu and we had made them aware of dietary issues beforehand so they did offer a choice of the dishes without gluten and dairy. The food we had was very good as looked all the dishes we saw delivered to other tables nearby. Seating is quite basic and tables are quite close but it was comfortable. Not a lot of parking nearby as it's in a busy area.

  • 5/5 Kyle M. 1 year ago on Google
Impeccable. The menu is not bold. But it doesn’t need to be. The dishes are expertly executed. The seasoning is perfect and the choice of ingredients is creative yet grounded in a deep understanding of flavour and texture. The small plates are the ones to go for.

Just ate at Tyme Cafe, ordered a main course (having decided not to get a "small plate" as i was hungry) I was served with what can only be described as a child's portion. I don't normally order vegetarian and am so disappointed that I did. TINY portion of butternut squash sitting on 5x tablespoons of cous cous (for £15). The waiter said "it depends what size we get"' so it seems it isn't possible to cook and serve a little extra?.. or maybe add a bit more cous cous? Seriously disappointed.

We met one of our friends there for lunch. My wife & I are pescatarian so to hear that salmon was off the menu did straight away reduce our options on the menu. But I mostly have soup to start & the Spicy Carrot was delicious & for main I had Tiger Prawn Spaghetti. My wife had Salt & Pepper Squid & Thyme Cafe Fishcake. We both had lemon cake for dessert with a latte. Great food, service & value for money. Really recommend this establishment it has a real nice ambience.

This is, without a doubt the best roast dinner we have ever had. The restaurant is welcoming and cozy, and the staff are incredibly friendly. I had the roast chicken, and my husband had the porky belly. Everything was cooked to perfection, with perfect portion sizes, and the seasoning was just amazing. Thyme Cafe is the perfect destination for comforting food, a relaxed atmosphere, and amazing food. I highly recommend that everyone pays a visit.

Firstly - the food is excellent. Gourmet, properly made in a real restaurant kitchen. We ate on Saturday lunchtime, and enjoyed the experience However - it is pricey, not "Cafe" prices, certainly. And the service at peak times is somewhat slow, as they are taking time to construct each meal. We waited 40,50 minutes?

Great food and would have scored five stars if we didn't have to wait for 55 mins for a table we had booked. I understand the rationale for overbooking however the end result was disappointing. Very nice food and service and would definitely go back!

Lovely place, prices may seem above average for a sandwich etc £10 for a steak sarny but it was beautiful and well worth every penny... My only complaint was paying £4.90 for a half of Estrella Lager... A pint I'd have accepted but for a half, thats unbelievable. Nearly £10 for a pint 😱... But, does not take away from the food and service. Amazing place and food and lovely staff 👍👌

The best. Food, setting, staff, service.. everything about this place is amazing. Always has been and it's not dropped off in the 10+ years I've been eating here. Great for an afternoon beer and light bite, meal with friends or colleagues, or to propose to your significant other.. it's that good.

11 of us went here for a family celebration and amongst us we had some special dietary needs i.e. gluten intolerant, vegetarian, a seafood allergy. They had a varied menu that offered options to accommodate the dietary needs. The portions were large and inviting and whilst it was not cheap, it was value for money. I have added a few photos of the three meat Sunday lunch, the salmon etc that we were actually served up so you can judge for yourselves.

This was Sunday lunch. Large portions of roast! There were plenty of other interesting menu options too, one of our party had the fish stew. The food was very good. If the weather had been slightly warmer we would have sat in the lovely garden to eat, but we're soft southerners so we stayed inside! I have to compliment the establishment on their anti COVID measures which they take seriously and I felt safe here. The menu was on blackboards.
