I have been to this restaurant many times over the years including book launches, birthday parties and private dinner parties. It really is a stylish, sophisticated restaurant with a quiet ambiance in a beautiful setting by Lake Burleigh Griffith. There is a set menu offering modern cuisine with a minimum 2 courses for lunch and 4 courses for dinner. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally. The wine menu is a little restricted. At my husband’s birthday lunch recently we were disappointed to find there was no sauvignon blanc at all on the wine list. He rarely drinks wine but enjoys this particular style on special occasions. He is also pesco-vegetarian and again, it was disappointing that the scallops on offer as an entree could not be served without the chorizo. There was a vegetarian eggplant dish but unfortunately this is the only vegetable he doesn’t enjoy. The server at our table was very attentive and our water was topped up frequently. The lunch was very European in that nothing was rushed and plenty of time for conversation between courses for. The meals were small (which suits me) and beautifully presented. There were several interesting and tasty sides to choose from and I recommend ordering these if you like a big meal but not necessary if you are not a big eater. The one thing we all found odd at our recent lunch was the ‘cheese’ on offer as a third course. We all assumed it would be some sort of cheese platter but was in fact melted cheese on brioche - it seemed more of a ‘starter’ dish. On the whole I think 4.5 ⭐️

Regardless that there is little to see from this location, the place does provide a great feel of atmosphere with panoramic windows overlooking the river and lit-up houses across it. Service is excellent, but the wait between each serve, around 20 minutes, is too much. Overall, without any extra dish (added to the dinner of 4 courses), except for one oyster, it took us 2 hours to eat (no delays on our side). $120pp. Sorry, but the cuisine is pretty average, that of an average good restaurant. Cook overused vinegar. Most dishes tasted vibrant, but again, the taste was not as smooth as expected from the dining experience. But they do provide a good dining experience. So... if you have $120pp, it might be worth a shot. But it's not a place to return to or be very excited about. It's more about the experience rather than food delight.

We had a late lunch to celebrate Father's Day. The restaurant offered 2 or 3-course lunch. It would have been perfect had it not for a fairly large boisterous group in one corner whose laughter and loud banter echoed across the space, and 2 babies at different tables, taking turns in crying. Oh well, it's Father's day... what can you do? The saving grace was an excellent combination of a fancy tasty lunch, enthusiastic, courteous and engaging staff, & a beautiful lake view.

Excellent food, beautifully presented and delicious. The manners of all the staff were impeccable from opening the door on arrival, to leaving at the end of the meal. The options for non-alcoholic drinks were good, more than the basic coke and lemonade options so often offered in most other establishments. The drinks were presented as thoughtfully as their alcoholic counterparts. Milly, our server was extremely knowledgeable about our choices, and she explained in detail the ingredients in each dish. The ambiance was perfect with spacious seating and barely audible back ground music. We will most certainly return.

Lovely place to have a leisurely lunch with friends overlooking the lake. The staff were friendly, and attentive. We had lunch at the Armada Bar, which was perfect on this sunny and still day. Food was a bit smallish, but very nice. We didn’t have a “timed” table like so many other places, which always puts me off.

I must say the food here are some of the best you'll ever have in Canberra. It definitely deserves the two chef's hat recently awarded. The price you pay to dine here is also very reasonable compared to other restaurants. Would definitely recommend for special occasions and even weddings functions. Yours truly @fooderarri

The Almond Chicken Ballotine, Jerusalem Artichoke Agnolotti, Charcoal Pork Loin and potato side dish were standouts from out lunch at The Boat House a few Saturday’s ago. The staff really added to our experience. Ute and Steff were particularly helpful and personable. The whole experience reminded us of great meals we have had at Michelin restaurants in France and Italy. We are going again soon.

Unbelievably nice and well presented food in a magnification location. Most impressed. Fresh, well ventilated and uncrowded, great service, felt very covid safe as well. I came in a small group for lunch and we all had 3 courses. None disappointed!

OMG. Christmas lunch! Thanks so much! What a lunch! On the lake beside the poor soggy black swan. Staff were fantastic. Could not fault them from the lovely greeting at the outset to escorting everyone to their cars under umbrellas at the end! Thanks for that -- it sets you apart from others. The food was absolutely phenomenal. There was no course that let us down and we're all still trying to work out which course was the favourite -- a good sign. One of our guests has a small problem with eggs and they quickly pivoted to provide her with something that was just as good to replace what she couldn't eat. No table was on top of any other table -- so that gives a great ambience as well. It's a great way to do Christmas and we'd be happy to do it again!

I loved the food here. It was delicious and the different flavours complemented each other well. The wait staff were attentive and offered helpful suggestions on wine pairings for the different courses. When I visited in mid-October 2019 the ground was covered in white; the closest thing to to snow you'll see in Canberra outside of a rare winter day. A good place to celebrate occassions or enjoy a fine dining experience

Best restaurant ever! Loved every single meal. One place not to miss in Canberra! We were sitting by the wall so didn't get to see much of a sunset and river, but the service and the food were amazing!

I first phoned the Boat House on 8 Jan 21 and left a message. I was asking if wheelchair accessibility was an issue. A day later I phoned during opening hours; straight to answering service. Despite their web site saying someone will contact me, I've received no response. I then went to the booking system via their web site. This booking system seems to be managed 'off shore' - possibly America. I gave my contact details and a bit later received confirmation of my booking, but still no response about wheelchair access. On Monday 11 January at 4:12pm I received a call from Alberta Canada - no friends or relatives in this part of the world. So the call went to message bank, but none was left. So I now wonder if my contact details have been on-sold by this booking agent to other third parties. In response I emailed this booking agent requesting all of my contact details be deleted. This process takes up to 30 days. I had expected a higher level of customer service at this top end restaurant. So if your not satisfied, vote with your feet and take your business elsewhere. I did.

Fine dining at its best. Carefully thought out dishes with flavours measured perfectly. 100 percent satisfied. As a advise I think the carbonated water should be made clear by wait staff that it comes at a charge, we thought it was covered as house water. It still doesn't affect my rating, complements to the Chiefs and I can tell alot of thought, dedication and refinement has gone into the recipes. Thank you for a enjoyable evening and we will be most definitely repeat customers.

Boat House is the best fine dining restaurant and wedding venue in Canberra in my opinion! I’ve been to this beautiful place many times and have always been impressed by its excellent customer services, high quality food and wonderful lake view. Staff are so friendly and professional. A perfect place for any type of events or celebrations! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As a wedding photographer I've worked in a lot of different venues in Canberra. I can say hands down that you'll be hard pressed to find many other spots in Canberra which offer such incredible sunset views, and waterlake vibes of the Boat House. Not only is it in an incredible spot, but also offers incredibly catering (I can personally vouch for the Paella being absolutely incredible!) and insane styling and charm. From the wood platforms for you to have your ceremony, to the easy lakeside walks and cozy fireplace, if you're looking for somewhere for your wedding in Canberra, the Boat House is absolutely one of the very best!

The service of The Boat House for our business dinner reception was outstanding. From the early planning stages right through to the evening itself - the team were highly professional and ensured every aspect of the event was executed perfectly. The staff were great and looked after all our guests, and the food was exceptional. Will definitely be returning for events in future.

Fantastic place for lunch or dinner. Lovely atmosphere, not stuffy either. You can just as easily have a nice relaxed lunch or dinner for a special occasion. Some of the nicest wait staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, excellent service and wonderful people. Food is brilliant, good sized serves and simply amazing. You pay a fair amount, but you more than get what you pay for!

If you're looking for a wedding venue that offers stunning views, excellent service, and a truly unforgettable experience, The Boat House is the perfect choice. The staff at The Boat House went above and beyond to ensure that everything was perfect on our special day. They were friendly, professional, and incredibly attentive, making sure that all of our needs were met and that everything ran smoothly. The food and wine at The Boat House were exceptional! We were also able to choose a delicious welcome cocktail for our guests. The dishes were expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better wedding venue than The Boat House. From start to finish, everything was perfect - I highly recommend The Boat House. Thank you to James, Megan and the entire team for making our special day so magical!

Laura was super helpful and patient with me with planning our work dinner at the Boathouse. She was super prompt with her responses and nothing was too big of a hassle for her in terms of particular requirements. During our time at dinner, Julia and the team were also super patient with our group and had great service.

Laura and the management team ran our executive dinner to perfection in the East End room. They assisted our multiple last minute changes with grace and ensured we had a smooth smooth service allowing us to enjoy the occasion. Hats off the the events team, venue staff and the chef for an amazing evening! Cant wait to book again =)

The food and the atmosphere were amazing. It’s almost like a fine dining restaurant with fantastic views but where one can actually fill their stomach. Easily one of the best restaurants overall in Canberra. In saying that, it inherits some of the elements from fine dining restaurants, like a huge wait time between courses. We even had to wait for something like 10 minutes just for our check to arrive. A 3-4 course meal can easily drag out to 2 hours, is just be aware I guess.

We had the most perfect wedding at The Boathouse, we genuinely would give higher than 5 stars if we could. Megan, James, and the whole staff provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere both in individual meetings and on the big day. Megan walked us through every aspect of the day, answered every question we had, and went above and beyond at every point. The food and wine is phenomenal, and has been every time we’ve ever eaten here. The fact that they can coordinate such a high level of service with amazing food for 100+ people and accomodate every dietary is simply amazing. They are truly the best in the business and we could not recommend them more highly.

My wife and I had our wedding here recently plus a pre-wedding lunch with our bridal party. We had the best time and can't rate them highly enough! The functions team were wonderful to work with, nothing was too much trouble. Service for our reception (and the lunch) were just great -- they were so attentive and efficient. A lot of our guests came up to us and told us the same. We've definitely found a new favourite in the Boat House for intimate, scenic, meals and for great events.

Absolutely amazing venue but even better staff, chefs and coordinators! We have had a few meals here now and has always been a great experience. Just recently we had our wedding here, and they smashed it out of the park. Great planning and communication from day one, and then on the night everything was superb. After the wedding we have had so many individual comments from family and friends about the amazing level of service, quality of food and exceptional catering for all dietary requirements that they have never experienced from a wedding venue before until now. Thank you all again for a great night and experience!

We chose to have our wedding at The Boat House and could not have picked a better venue. The whole team were wonderful to work with and helped us achieve our vision for an intimate and stress free wedding. We had both our ceremony and reception at the Boat House and the setting was beautiful. The Boat House were able to accommodate our request for a fully vegetarian and vegan menu and the food was spectacular - definitely a highlight of the day and a hit with our guests. Highly recommend to any couples considering this for a wedding venue.

Our guests loved every course. Thanks to Megan and the dedicated staff, our dream wedding became a reality. Highly recommended.

The location of the Boat House is stunning and unlike many other places in prime locations, the restaurant delivers high quality restaurant matching the intimate atmosphere. The Boat House staff were phenomenal from start to finish. Fine dining complimented by a great selection of local wines delivered by a professional service team. We were a party of 25 people of all ages and there was not one complaint!! Thank you to the Boat House for a fantastic night!!

We recently visited the new Armada outdoor pop up bar at The Boat House and loved it! We arrived before sunset so we enjoyed watching the sun go down and the lights across the lake when day turned to night. Live music was playing and we enjoyed some delicious food and local beer and wine with a sneaky cocktail to finish. There's nothing else like this in Canberra! It's so close to the water and it's a great way to spend a few hours as a couple or with a group of people. The oysters were freshly shucked and were really good. I loved the pork katsu sandwich too!

I would have given it 5 stars as the new armada bar setting was beautiful, but I wasn’t a huge fan of their drinks and food bookings system which is all electronic - someone who isn’t great with electronics (like my mum) would struggle, or when my phone died I don’t know how they would expect me to order food and drinks. My friend then had to do any ordering for me which becomes complicated with payments. Unfortunately I think their booking table system could also improve or maybe the guy who they had on to organise the table bookings could have done a better job. They obviously pre organise where they are going to sit all the bookings and they are not flexible at all... so our group of 11 had to keep moving and moving to different tables - 3 or 4 times he moved us. At one point it was so ridiculous we had to move to the exact table next to us a metre away to accommodate the next booking. We suggested the tables were exactly the same and to sit the new group on that table - but he couldn’t think outside of the box. We were spending a lot of money - had estimated we were probably close to $800 by this point and when he eventually moved us from a table to a picnic rug that’s when we decided we would leave

Fantastic! We booked in for lunch and were greeted with a smile at the door. We were placed in a beautiful room and provided menus. 5 star service was expected and 5 star service was received. The staff are very knowledgeable and the chef easily adapted to our dietary requirements. The food was superb; in fact my wife described the Truffle crème caramel desert as making love on a Sunday morning in silk sheets under the warmth of the morning sun. The restaurant is highly recommended.

A very charming venue set in a park overlooking the lake (parking is available for patrons). The food menu was well balanced, seasonal and the ingredients worked wonderfully together. It was a great rhapsody of tastes enticing our culinary senses wanting for more. Once you finish your lunch or dinner you can move onto the deck and enjoy a drink or two while enjoying the view of the lake and the park. The only reason I scored it 4 is due to the sterile and cold dining room which reflected current situation.

Fine dining at its best. This is where our fam goes to celebrate family occasions, and it's never failed us. The food is set menu and you can choose 2 or 3 courses and add a cheese plate if you like. The quality and design of the food is awesome and I always struggle with knowing what to order as it is al so different and sounds so tasty. Service is awesome with polite yet friendly staff actually knowing and understanding the dishes and are able to explain various elements as well as off wine suggestions. 10/10

It was a wonderful experience to dine at The Boat House. Beautiful location, great service, exceptional food. The flavours were incredible and everything was cooked to perfection- melt in your mouth. They catered well to dietary requirements. Nothing was a problem. Some of the nicest gluten free bread I've had, and they made me a special dairy free dessert.

We got married here 4 years ago and went back for our anniversary dinner over the weekend. The food was ok, but nothing special. It was very underwhelming, considering we paid $110 per person and my wife's main meal (which was the Barramundi) was very ordinary. We had such good memories of this place from our wedding, but I don't think we will be going back.

Venue and views are great. Desseet was very good, they seem to be the chefs strength. Entrees were good but not amazing. 2 of us ordered the Wagyu hanger steak, both were too chewy and sinewy to eat. We sent them back and got the pork in charred cabbaged which was the best dish after the desserts. Wine list is comprehensive and good. Would have been good not great (4/5) if not for steak but with those 3/5.

The Boat House has always been a great location crying out for food and service to match, and now it's happened. Over nearly 2 hours on a sunny, Saturday afternoon we were served wonderful food, with service to match and a complicated set of dietary requirement (1 celiac, 1 vegan) dealt with with ease. The 3 course set lunch menu is very good value at $77 for the quality of the food here. Hiramasa kingfish and the ginger mirin pork belly were both superb entrees, and the Humpty Doo barramundi, charcoal pork loin and Cowra lamb rump very well cooked mains. The only disappointment was dessert - nothing wrong but we all fell for the Braidwood honey crémeux and it was nice, without being great (interestingly, the vegan version, which replaced the ice cream with raspberry, was much better). Service was top class - quick, informed, friendly, and despite the Covid-induced time and dining restrictions, we never felt pressed for time. A very good addition to Canberra's fine dining scene, and with the location to match.
