The atmosphere is great and the service is pretty good. The food is okay, not really worth the hefty price tag. I ordered a medium rare steak and it was basically raw in the middle. The edges were rare and I don’t mind that but once I got half way through I couldn’t do it anymore. I asked our waiter if he considered that med rare and he said no it was extra rare. He didn’t offer to bring it back to the kitchen to throw on the grill for a little longer. I don’t like to be a bother so I figured I’ll just bring it home and cook it more myself. We spent almost $400 on an appetizer, 2 sides and 2 steaks. Like I said atmosphere is great, service was decent, the food was okay, but for the price you could find something better. Maybe it’s my own fault for expecting more (moved here from Texas), but we’ll probably try a different steakhouse next time.

Porterhouse was excellent as usual and the bone marrow appetizer was over the top (see picture). Ribeye on the other hand, very disappointing. They state a 42 day dry aged ribeye and I can definitely tell you that it is not 42 day dry aged. And a few of us ordered it. It could barely pass for a standard 28 day dry aged, but not a 42 day dry aged - fake beef! Plus it was overcooked (pictured). Definitely not worth $83 for fake aged beef! Service is excellent, but the fake aged and over cooked ribeye really disappointed our family. We should have stuck to ordering porterhouse only instead of the Ribeyes.

We went to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our meal was spectacular. Our service was spectacular. Adam was spectacular. Our bill was equally spectacular BUT we were prepared for the high ticket prices for incredibly high quality evening we enjoyed.

Every time I visit Washington, I have to stop by. The food is fantastic but the service is impeccable. I have had the Japanese A5 Wagyu and enjoyed it. The rich flavor was a bit much after a few bites so it’s good the portion is small. My favorite cut is the ribeye cap which is hard to find at steakhouses. I love, love, love the bone marrow, it is fatty and delicious and pairs well with the carrot purée. The fried bacon is also good and the warm maple syrup is not too sweet. My only complaint if any is the potato’s. I love potatoes and all of the ones I’ve tried so far have just been meh. However, I can’t wait for my next visit.

Have been to John Howie a few times before. It's a terrific treat for a special date on the calendar, and we had some gift cards. Steaks are where they excel! We found the Filet Mignon so tender it melts in your mouth, and I thought the seasoning on the Rib-eye totally spot on. I usually choose medium rare, but our server recommended medium for the Rib-eye, and that was a perfect call. We really loved the grilled corn, but discovered you don't need the larger potato puree serving, as it was more than two could eat. We shared a creme brulee, and our server brought out a complimentary chocolate treat for our anniversary. A nice touch. But we were plenty full! The service was excellent, and prices are on par for a higher end dining experience. It is a great choice for a great steak.

I had high expectations for this place but I wasn’t impressed. Service was great, the server was quite passionate about his job. But food was just on par, I mean, given the price. I almost wanted to leave them a 3 star review because of the vibe. We were seated next to a really loud crowd and we almost had to yell at each other to talk. I ended up asking for a table switch.

I went to the bar for happy hour. Two cheeseburgers + 3 HH cocktails + Grilled Sprouts = $98 (20% included for the service) Good cheeseburgers quality. Lemon Drop was good and tasty. Parking vouchers were validated. Happy Hour is 4-6. Great staff and respectful. Overall good experience

Best. Burger. Ever. Worth every last cent. Folks, I cannot stress to you enough how every person should seize the opportunity to taste even just one single bite of this burger. There was my life before a John Howie Steak Burger and my life after, changed for the better. I can't pick one component of the burger that really made this incredible because everything was beautifully balanced and dialed to a 12/10 on flavor and size. Beyond the star of the show, everything else was spectacular: fries, brussel sprouts (best we've had at a "bar"), cocktails. Truly an unforgettable dining experience, accented by an incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. We'll be dining at the Bar section of the restaurant again, no doubt about it

My husband made a reservation at John Howie steak for our anniversary. We were excited to try it out but were quickly surprised by the entire evening. They sat us down at a large booth which was watching people come in and out of the restaurant. We asked to change to a smaller booth a little bit more intimate. The booth location was fine but there was a mirror right next to us on the wall and it was very dirty. The presentation of my husband’s 90 dollar steak was literally a steak on a plate, the steak was cooked well but it was very bland and lacked any sort of presentation. The crab legs were cooked well and had a good flavor but for the 140 dollar price tag were nothing special sadly. The bread basket was very dry and lacked any flavor. The fries were over cooked and also very bland. We hoped they would make up somewhat with a good dessert but the desert was dry and very chewy, it was very obvious that they had warmed up a frozen dessert. Our server seemed very absent minded and could not remember if we were celebrating a birthday or anniversary. He also could not remember if he has brought out appetizer or not. We had the habanero shrimp which was good overall, nothing special though. Our busser was more attentive and personable than our server, unfortunately. If you are looking for a romantic or intimate environment with delicious food we would recommend you go to Ascend or somewhere else. The lighting was very bright here and the music was way too loud. Incredibly disappointing for a 500$ dinner we had cold food that was bland and an absent minded server. Also one last thing that was so strange. Their menu was a regular menu, then they have a paper menu sheet and to look at drinks the server handed us a giant I pad. It was the weirdest thing. Why not just put the drinks on a paper menu or give us a QR code? Overall it was a bad experience and we won’t be going back.

Food, drinks, and service was great. The portions are respectable. We ordered the bread basket, bone marrow, hamachi crudo for appetizers along with Sea Bass and NY Sirloin for entrees. Truffle fries and mushrooms for the sides. This was more than enough food for us but wanted to celebrate our special occasion. The truffle fries came out a little dry and felt like it was sitting in the kitchen for a hot second. Next time I would order the items as you finish your previous dish just to experience the freshness and hot out of the kitchen.

Food was perfect all the way around from apps & drinks to dessert. Spent almost 3hrs at our table, at about $200 an hr for two, you do the math, but was worth it!

Wow, how amazing. Brett was so much fun! Great server who treated us like gold. Ask for him. Steaks were out of this world. Try the old fashioned!

We left confused with the quality of the steak we ate. We have dined at John Howie many times and enjoy their happy hour menu. The service was very good and the staff were attentive. The Mishami Reserve American Wagyu RibEye was so disappointing. I erased the pictures I took of it after I left the restaurant so as not to be reminded of my disappointment. The meat was not tender, it was so tough, my mom would have choked on what she tried to chew on if she swallowed it. She could not eat the rest of the meal. The bone marrow was good but could have benefited from a good torching to give it some roast and crisp flavor- the night nakret at Richmond in Vancouver BC was a lot better and cost way less. My filet mignon was tender but presented so poorly on a platter it just looked so lonely. I write this with a sad heart. I love(d?) going to John Howie but cannot recommend the Wagyu steak and give caution to anyone willing to spend $100 or more for a 6 to 10oz Wagyu beef from a reserve, American, or Australia because it can come out tough, unchewable, and tasteless and with this price point, quite a risk to take. The truffle beef fat fries however were delicious. I just wish the food overall left a better impression as it has many times past. Now it's just quite disappointing.

Been here before and just forgot to write a review. Revisited this restaurant last night to celebrate my mom's birthday! She enjoyed her evening and mentioned multiple times that the food was phenomenal. My mom usually doesn't like to celebrate her birthday out so I made a last-minute reservation and they were able to accommodate us with a nice table. The staff was delightful and had such an extraordinary atmosphere to celebrate any occasion. It wasn't an inexpensive dinner. Expect to pay $$$$. I do feel like it was a good value for my money because mom loved her dinner.

Had dinner here with a friend tonight. The restaurant was clean, the night view from the window by our table was gorgeous. Food was delicious, the steak was juicy, tender and so much flavor with the magical French onion sauce. Cocktail was nice too, and agreed with others, the service was impeccable. The waiter so nicely recommended us to go with medium rather than medium rare as temperature about John Howie’s steak is a bit different from other regular steaks. It turned out to be perfect! It’s expensive, but well worth the price.I can’t wait to come back.

Some of our best memories as made here. We celebrate our anniversaries and birthdays at John Howie. They treat everyone with impeccable courtesy. I can’t say anything bad about this place. The food is amazing, but the service makes it the best.

Overall, fabulous dining experience. Came here with my dad for Veterans day and Brett took great care of us. We got the Table Dinner for Two which consisted of 48oz Wagyu Ribeye steak, roasted vegetables, and bone marrow. I like my steak medium-rare and he liked his medium-well, and I was happy that they were able to accommodate this with a single steak. He normally does not eat rare/pink steak, but even he admitted that this was the best favored steak that he's ever had. The Table-side carving was also an added bonus. Will be coming back for special occasions. Well done JHS.

It was "okay." Steaks were good but if I'm being picky it was more Rare than Medium Rare. We noticed this when one of the steak that was topped with butter didn't melt. We loved the lobster mashed potatoes. Truffle fries are great if you like truffle. Service was okay but we had to look for our server a few times to get refills and other things. This meal costs nearly $500 (including the manditory 20% service fee) so I kind of expected food and service to be a bit better than what we got.

Excellent service / average food preparation. The steak ordered medium rare arrived medium well. No excuse for plating an overdone porterhouse. The deviled eggs were bland and the fried bacon was very greasy. Table side Caesar salad was very good. The service made the meal.

Start to finish a great experience. Started with the deviled eggs and the provided charcoal activated salt mad either taste amazing. Baked potatoe and brussel sprouts had amazing flavor. The Australian Steak was cooked perfectly and was season to perfection. Thank you all for everything you did to make the experience so amazing.

Definitely the best steakhouse I’ve ever been to. The service was top tier, and we felt well taken care of the whole time - our server was incredible. Free validated parking in the garage. We had fresh oysters and the bone-in ribeye dinner for 2, which included roasted veggies, potatoes, and bone marrow. They included three types of salts which made the steak so delicious. Everything was amazing. The steak is on the rare side compared to what we’re used to, so keep that in mind as you order. We loved the entire experience. Also, they serve the best bread ever.

What a wonderful experience! As a Texan, I do not seek out steakhouses (or Mexican) but in a quest to find a “good happy hour” we we’re led here. And oh what a treat. Jeff introduced us to the great bar selection of which he listened to our likes and dislikes and introduced us to the perfect “pallet matches” - some from their own batch. The happy hour food was more than amazing. Steak sandwich melted in our mouth, the shrimp (in a broth) was filling and amazing as were the other things we ordered. Won’t hesitate to invest in a full course dinner. Great experience and craving the bar burger

Hostess greeter was a bit snobbish. Table service was very friendly. Food was glorious, but not cheap. Don't expect a low price steak here.

I love steak but hate pretentious restaurants. The food here was great and everyone at John Howie made me feel comfortable! This is now my go to steakhouse for special occasions.

I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday and this place did not disappoint. The service was impeccable - our waitress was attentive, polite, and did a fabulous job making us the table-side salad. You know you're in a fancy place when they fold your napkin again when you leave to go to the restroom or when they time everything just right like it's an elegant dance. The food was phenomenal! The Waygu was absolutely worth the price - best steak either of us has ever had. Their potato puree was creamy and delicious and we enjoyed the variety bread basket that came before the meal. On top of that, they made perfectly mixed cocktails. The staff did a fantastic job and the quality of food was even better than we anticipated. We are eager to return!

Best steakhouse I have been to in the area. Amazing staff. Table of 7 and we were well taken care of. 100% going again. I don't normally get dessert but this was worth it.

I have had wonderful experiences dining in at John Howie Steak. The greeters and servers are welcoming and friendly. The food is top notch quality. Highly recommend the three course meal- sirloin steak and honey crisp apple salad is delicious. Would most definitely return again and highly recommend!

Just like last year, Ruben, our waiter was amazing. Always pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient. On this date last year we celebrated our wedding, back again for our 1st anniversary ❤️. See you again. Warm inviting atmosphere with delicious food and drink.

This place has the best steaks around! They are known for their wagyu steaks. You have the options of American, Australian, Japanese or a combination. The food portions on the menu are family style, big portions to share with the family. They have vegetarian/vegan menus upon request. They do accommodate dietary restrictions. Really great for fancy date nights, and business dinners. Even birthdays. The wait staff is very attentive and professional, they are friendly and courteous and treat everyone with respect. There is a valet option for parking, or you can park in the lot for the shopping center. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

My dinner guests and I had high expectations of John Howie, and the restaurant wildly exceeded our expectations. First, our waiter treated us like we were royalty. From the presentation to the service, we felt privileged. I planned to order the crab cakes as a starter but took his advice and got the habanero shrimp instead. That was a good call as I received far more shrimp than imagined, and the sauce left a satisfying slow burn on the edge of my palate. The house-baked bread selection was unique in that there were at least five different types of bread. We munched on the bread throughout the meal. My friend ordered the filet mignon combination (four 4-ounce filet mignon steaks). Now I understand Japanese A5 Wagyu’s reputation as the world’s best steak. Although I had just one small piece, the meat practically melted in my mouth as its natural flavor burst from it. The steaks were of the highest quality, cooked to perfection, and otherworldly. I had the Applewood Smoked Seafood Salad (pictured). What’s notable is that I don’t like salmon, but I want to eat more because it’s good for you. If all salmon tasted like John Howie’s, I’d eat it every day. It was boneless and cooked to perfection as my fork sliced through it like a hot knife through butter. It had a mild taste, too. After discussing whether our stomachs had room for dessert, we splurged on the volcano cake. I’ve eaten volcano cakes before, but nothing like this decadent world wonder. From the sauces and whipped cream to the inner and outer consistencies, the dessert was the perfect ending to a perfect meal.

WOW!! The food and service was AMAZING!! As you can see, we were hungry!! Our server made sure my sons food allergies were addressed with every course. Amazing!! We can’t wait to go again. First time there and we will be back A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! 🥰

Enjoyed our anniversary dinner tonight! Excellent service from Rueben. Food was amazing! Started with an American Wagyu bite with chimichuri from the chef. For our appetizer, we had the spicy habanero butter shrimp served with toasted bread which was perfect to dip in the delicious broth. My husband had the aged ribeye steak and it was perfectly cooked to his satisfaction which was medium rare. It had a nice char on the outside. I had the tenderloin bites which was very flavorful and tender. We shared the crispy brussel sprouts and twice baked potato. Everything was delicious! Good cocktails, too! From the house, a complimentary chocolate cake with cream for our anniversary! Totally enjoyed it!

One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been too! The service is so amazing! You literally feel like you’re in a place of royalty! They take ladies orders first, serve first as well! Wall by with a special tool and scrape the crumbs off your table! Unfold and place your napkins for you! The food was phenomenal! On the higher $ side but 💯 worth it! Ruben was our waiter and will be requesting him again! I could go on and on! ❤️
