The park is amazing. It is a great way to somewhat experience a "safari" in the midst of California. My entire family (5 of us) spent a wonderful day at the park. So why 4 stars? 1. It is expensive. The 5 of us spent around a $1,000 with all the rides. The entry tickets are about $60 per head. But what you experience is somewhat limited. 2. Not enough carnivores. If you were thinking you'd be driving by a herd of lions, that's not what this is. Your safari will take you by 4~5 animals - giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and some gazelles. Again, safari is a bit underwhelming. Other than that, we had a fantastic day. The kids felt like they had their fill of animals. Food and drinks were reasonable. And a fantastic family outing.

This place is awesome! A free tram ride that lasts for over half an hour transports you to the African Savannah where you see zebras, giraffes, rhinoceros, elephants, and more! The gardens here are incredible, and the view of the mountains breathtaking. Walk amongst the kangaroos with no cage in the outback. Hang out with gorillas. Entry is included in San Diego Zoo memberships, and the parking pass is a good deal. Highly recommend this place for full family outings!

It's an amazing full day's adventure. Parking is on a hill, so drive to the top and start your search for a spot there. It's more than a safari ride, there are many exhibits and themed areas. No matter what you do, be sure to take that safari tour. The guides are well versed and are quick to point out the sights. Wild antelope, giraffes, cheetahs 🐆, and more. There are gift shops, of course, and a few different food choices throughout. You can save money by bringing your own food, saving money for the gift shops! Enjoy your day, and be prepared to walk into a great adventure.

We have been visiting this park for years, and it never gets old. We have an annual pass to support this amazing park and unfortunately, we can only visit once a year since we are busy. It is not a zoo where animals are in small, caged areas. There is a Safari Tram that takes you around a large safari tour with a live guide who talks about animals, their conservation and efforts to protect endangered species, etc. The Park is huge and includes botanical garden & bonsai exhibits. We like walking around. The best time to visit is during the holidays and stay after dark to see the beautiful sunset and enjoy the “Wild Holiday” events/lights. We arrived early afternoon and it wasn’t too bad parking & entering the park. The animals including the tigers, gorillas, and platypuses were active.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! They are a non-for profit so everything you spend from the tickets, food and souvenirs helps the animals. They did a great job with the park set up, tons of land for the animals. It is beautiful and the staff really cares about the animals. Great way to see animals and not feel guilty doing it. While they are in captivity, they have adequate space. On the tram ride the driver said they have had the highest success rate of any park with endangered animals reproducing. They talked about the white rhino being down to 2 females and they have scientists working to "Jurassic Park" it and create a male white rhino. The goal is for 1 of the 2 females to carry the male rhino, if successful. Now that is cool! We met a senior couple there and they said during the week seniors were free. Not sure if this is all the time or just during the month of Feb (2022) or just a special promotion. This is a great place to go for all ages!

Wow!! This was seriously amazing! The tram is free and very interesting. You can get so close to these beautiful animals. There are also so many beautiful plants/flowers all around the zoo. There are volunteers all over ready to assist with your questions. This was my fav zoo experience!

Can to the Safari Park to enjoy the animals in a bigger habitat. There is a lot to see and do. Just make sure you bring plenty of $$ and good walking shoes. I went on the Africa tour which was about an hour long. Ir was so cool driving into there habitat and seeing them up close. It did cost some money but worth it since it goes into helping the animals. There was a hot air balloon and zip line as well. Great for the kids as you get to get a better understanding of the animals with the friendly and knowledgeable staff everywhere you look. Enjoy the pictures and videos

Great time to spend entire day!! But the general Tram is different and doesn't take you quite close to animals like normal safaris do. They have special reservation and tours for that! It was quite similar to Zoo also, but overall good experience. Currently they have quite few attractions temporarily not available - cheetah run, flight line, etc. African tram is working and fun time. Overall I wouldn't give it to 5 stars since I was expecting more from safari, but good place.

Well worth the time and money. I felt it was better than going to zoo. Animal’s definitely had more space to roam around and very well maintained. There are lot of endangered species they take care of and help breed some of those in a very sustainable way. When we went there the animals were very active and I am guessing because it was not too hot. Try to do the Africa tram in the morning because most of animals will be moving around vs sitting in shade during afternoon. Line was not crazy to get the tram. They have 3-4 trams which rotate around so it doesn’t take time. We didn’t do any other reserved safaris. If you want to get super close to animals then you can try those. We walked around 6-7 miles as per our fitness watch. I guess you will walk around that much if you want to cover everything. Most of the volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly to talk to.

This place was wonderful. I like the way there's so much room and they've incorporated a lot of different countries. We got to see the platimas which they're the only two outside of Australia. We went for senior day where if you're 65 or older you don't have to pay it mission. I would definitely go on this safari tour. The bus driver was very knowledgeable.

It’s really a cool zoo. You can easily spend an entire day here. I really like the diversity here and many enclosures are actually quite well designed. You well definitely need a map of you’re unfamiliar with this zoo as the paths can get quite confusing. Overall one of my favorite zoos

San Diego Safari Park: Visiting the San Diego Zoo has been on my bucket list for years, but it wasn't until I actually sat down to plan my trip that I realized there is a second site known as the "Safari Park". I'll jump ahead and tell you right away that in my opinion, although both parks are lovely, if you only have time to visit one then visit the "Safari Park". The park is similar to a zoo, but it's much more open and does contain some massive exhibits. There are additional ticket packages available for small group "safaris" and activities. For my visit I just stuck to the basics this time around. Included with your ticket though is the African Safari. On this safari you board a tram and tour their enormous African exhibit. If you've been to Disney's Animal Kingdom then it may remind you of their safari attraction. One of my favorite areas was the kangaroo exhibit, which allows you to get up close and personal with the marsupials. If you're lucky enough you might even get to pet one. Another neat exhibit was the platypus, which is the only one outside of Australia! Overall I really enjoyed this park and am grateful for finally being able to visit it. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

I absolutely loved the environment all around. I went on a Monday and it was so peaceful. I took my dad for his birthday and he loved the zebras when we rode the tram. Their food options to me didn't seem impressive, however I loved their gift shops. For the entry tickets, I got my dad a 10% discount with my military ID and I got my entire pass for free, that's amazing, thank you! 🙌

This place is awesome! I think I might like it better than the San Diego Zoo. There are so many animals but the safari park seems a like there's a lot more open spaces than the zoo. Lots of cool experiences you can do but you've got to do the tram. You get to see a lot of animals out in the open. One thing we are sad that we missed was the Cheetah run. We were just a few minutes too late but it seems so cool. Overall, a very fun time and lots of beautiful animals. Highly recommend.

Been coming here for years. It’s a gigantic park with a lot of different stuff to do! I’d recommend coming after COVID-19 restrictions are over though, as there will be much more to do. There are a bunch of really nice themed gardens here, my favorites being the bonsai and the succulent. The marsupial, platypus, elephant, and bat exhibits are my favorite. The tram is also one of the best parts of the park! I’d suggest bringing a hat, sunscreen, water, and your own lunch. They allow you to bring a backpack and food, and the food at the park is overpriced and not great. Also keep in mind that you’ll need about 5-7 hours here. Come at opening to avoid crowds.

I don't like going to tourist attraction destinations much, but this place is worth going to! The lions were outside resting together. The gorillas were together eating lunch. The animals have lots of space and look comfortable and happy. They also had acrobatics from Tanzania that were extremely talented and put on great shows. We watched them all. Great experience. I didn't pay for anything extra other than parking ($15) and a stroller ($14), but there are plenty of other things you can do for more $$ to make it even more memorable, like riding the hot air balloon.

San Diego Safari Park is the best zoo in Southern California. You have a lot to explore and try out. Make sure to talk to the guide at the entrance for some useful tips of that day. The lion’s sanctuary is the best and we had a great show (see the photos and videos). The tram experience is very good for the kids and the driver is very knowledgeable and funny. You can take a lot of photos. You will have a close encounter with kangaroos and elephants too. If you are lucky then you may pet a few kangaroos. There are many locations to interact with animals, but most of them are closed on the day we visit. It is not very clear which way to go. So, use the map and plan it well. Then you don’t have to walk back and forth to cover the places. It took us around 7 hours to complete (30 minutes lunch). The food is a bit expensive and not that great. But try out the fudge.

Very nice place to visit, especially for families and children to see and learn about the different animals. I went on a weekend and it was packed with people & it was the peak of summer so a very hot day too. I say go on a day when it's cool and nice since it involves a lot of walking. Bring plenty of water to drink or buy 1 of their souvenir cups that you can refill all day with water or any drink (if I remember correctly), for free at any drink station around the park. Also, when it comes to ticket and parking prices, I feel like they were on the pricy side for a zoo/safari park, but hey, it's California. I had a 1 day pass ticket and it was around $74 per adult and $64 per child (ages 3- 11) at regular price. If you purchase your ticket online before you visit, then you can save a dollar or two. Overall, I liked visiting here and would go again.

Had a great experience! There are not as many animals as the San Diego Zoo, but cool to see the safari part. Check out the African animals via the tram (it's free—included in your ticket price). We paid extra for the Asian tram tour with Aaron and that was fantastic! We would recommend. Other cool exhibits are the elephant, condor, tigers, platypus, and gorillas. It's hilly (not flat) and lots of walking around so be prepared with comfy shoes.

San Diego Zoo Safari park is a great educational park about 30 min from downtown. It can get very busy on holidays. On entry to the park, the parking costs $15 for cars and $20 for RVs. We went on an observed Christmas holiday and did not find parking for 20 min. It is recommended to go early to get parking spots and also to enjoy the whole park before it gets dark. We got a one-day pass that costs $67 per head. The park is in a very large area with routes designed to observe the wildlife from a safe distance. There are various ways to observe wildlife like walking safari, tram safari, behind the wheels safari, balloon safari etc. We could not get tickets for behind the wheels safari because it was booked for the day. So maybe something to consider to make reservations sooner than later. But we were able to walk using zoo map and see various wildlife easily.

What an awesome experience. Parking is $20 and a little trek but worth it. Be prepared to be a part of the action. Walking through the park seeing everything up close and personal. The Safari trips are worth the extra cost. The guides are knowledgeable and you'll see the animals as if you were in the Serengeti itself. Greatest advice: buy the 2 or 3 day pass. It will take you that long to fully get it while enjoying everything there is to take in. You will not regret it.

Tourist attraction? Yes.... But a place where animals live and are treated better than I get treated in life? YES! A place where animals have a chance of not going instinct? 100% A place to have an up close and personal view and education of some of the most beautiful animals in the world? 1,000% Every visit to this wonderful place provides you with chances of seeing animals in their natural habit living environments. Your contributions to this park help save these precious lives. Great for the whole family. One of my favorite experiences here is the tram ride. Take a tram around the expansive Serengeti environment with very happy and well cared for animals. A must see experience and photo opportunity.

This is an awesome place. Quick tips 1. Wear shoes for walking. 2.bring a water bottle. 3. Have fun. I suggest going on the African tram first thing in the morning as it can be a long wait later. Also the animals tend to be more active during the morning and later in the day when its cool. Overall an amazing place.

I enjoyed my time. It is definitely a workout, it's so Huge didn't even get to see the whole place I'll have to go visit again. I did enjoy the tour but felt like it could have offered more to equal the price of the ticket.. unfortunately most of the exhibits I wanted to see the animals were not out I was disappointed about that. But overall an okay experience

San Diego Zoo Safari Park - an amazing experience and one the whole family will love. Parking Fee is $20 on our visit or $48 for proffered parking. We parked in section 4 and waddled over to the entrance. Entrance You chose the location and then you get provided with all the options available. We did the AFRICA TRAM You walk past the main enclosures and a short stair trip or elevator ride towards the tram car and off you go on a 30 minute ride. We loved the Rhinos and the Giraffes good to see them in such a grand setting and they look at home, if that sounds right…. The commentary on what is seen on the journey is 1st class. Informative and Allows information not known on these majestic animals. Thank you for allowing such an experience. After we took our tram ride. We followed it up with a visit to the Lions Gorillas Elephants The highlight for me was Mary and Peggy the San Diego Zoo - Safari Park Volunteers. The stories they told us and the information on the residents was so detailed and you could feel the genuine enthusiasm for the role they play. Overall we had an amazing day and one I wish we had done sooner. Thank you. For having us.

The Safari park is great for outdoor activity, walking, families and visitors of all ages. I am a local so I know that the Safari park can get very hot in the late spring, summer and fall. Plan accordingly by wearing a hat, bring a refillable water cup - free refills of water at the restaurants, sun screen, lightweight clothing. That being said- we visited in January and the temps were perfect with a little cooler breeze now and then. Food prices can be expensive but the portions are reasonable. If you're a local consider getting a pass which will be good for Safari Park and San Diego Zoo. There are different pass levels so e aware of restrictions when purchasing. There is a lot of information on the website including stroller rental, mobility scooter rental, operating hours and current pricing. You can apply the cost of your ticket to a pass if you decide to upgrade. The patches are smooth and easy to walk but the park is big, riding the Africa Tram is essential to seeing the open savannahs with Giraffes, Rhinos, Gazelle, Antelope, Water Buffalo, Zebras and such. Download the app for easy access to more info on the go. Paper maps are also available as you enter.

This is a lot of walking. Total we did around 5 miles. Completely worth it. There are a variety of animals and experiences. Some come at an extra price so please plan ahead. Right now there are quite a few things closed. I recommend calling ahead to make sure the things you want to see are available. Staff is very knowledgeable. There are lockers in the front to store your belongings and you can bring in your own food and water.

My second time here and still had a blast. Although all of the indoor exhibits were closed and it was a cloudy day, all of the animals were out and about, which made this trip worthwhile. Masks were kept on the entire visit and everyone social distanced as asked. It was very pleasant and quiet and we just loved it!

We go for the animals! It's amazing. No two visits are ever alike. So much to see. You could park yourself at the elephant enclosure all day; there is always something entertaining happening there. Climb on the tram and enjoy the entire Safari Park. In the Spring, you can enjoy watching all the newborns. What is cuter than a baby elephant, a baby rhino, a baby giraffe, or baby lion cub? NOTHING! We enjoy the Bird shows and the leopard run (they release a leopard to run a distance chasing fake prey. Don't blink, or you'll miss it! The gorillas and chimps are always fun to visit and photograph. It's one of the best hikes in existence, just strolling through Safari Park and enjoying every step of the way. Note: Wear comfortable shoes. Stilettos not recommended! I saw some of the reviews panning the food. We don't go for the food, we go for the animals.

My family had the greatest time here. It is a very big, wide-open park, and I would recommend it for anybody that wants a trip with their family to a place that’s relatively uninhabited during Covid. We had a blast. It has a lot of animals you can see it up close, which can’t at a typical zoo. It is a great place for seeing rare and exotic animals up close and in person.

I actually feel the Safari Park is more fun than three zoo. Whereas there are lots of animals in small cages, the animals in the Safari Park have larger spaces to roam. The experience would not be complete without the tram ride around the African savanna. Definitely worth the hour plus wait time. The ride takes about 30 minutes and you'll see rhino, giraffes, cape buffalo, vultures, antelope, zebras and more. In the other areas, there are gorillas, lions, tigers, kangaroos and more. Plan on taking at least four hours to go through the exhibits. There are some special programs that cost more like the cheetah run and balloon ride. Check to see if there are night events. The wild holiday lights were a nice touch. If you're really lucky, go on a light rain day. The cats tend to group around the glass.

Such a hidden gem! We really enjoyed our first visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, despite the warm summer temperatures. The heat kept the crowds away. Arrive early to get good parking and then make the trek to the African Tram as your first stop so that you can catch all the animals while it’s still cooler outside. We were lucky enough to catch a cheetah run very unexpectedly! Also delighted to see the 50 year old male gorilla and the tigers make an appearance! Lots of 50th Anniversary specialty menu items and merchandise in the shops. Definitely go to The Watering Hole for a great sit-down meal with the most amazing view! Tiger Trail has an amazing kids play area and also a cool mist area to sit and relax when it gets too hot.

What an amazing place! Take the team ride! The park was so well maintained, the habitats were great sized for the animals. The volunteers were very useful and knowledgeable. We had an amazing day there. Be ready for lots of walking and hills. Next time we'll take the paid ride to get closer to the animals.

Great day at the park. The birds seemed to be in a particular mood to show off, but we also enjoyed our encounters with the gorillas, the kangaroos, the tigers, and an excited platypus. The enclosure designs give some space to the animals while letting the park visitors get a good look at everybody, and the walking paths and botanical variety are enchanting on their own. We did not go on any of the special attractions aside from the African Tram, but there are a few fun things to do that we did not try. Food options were pretty good but nothing particularly fancy or special. All of the Safari park staff were friendly and helpful. We spent about six hours there, saw most but not all of the exhibits, walked a little more than five miles, and had a great time as a family. We didn't have any kids with us, but the other young visitors seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit. Great experience!

I watched The Zoo: San Diego for several months and was so excited to come to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This place is massive and absolutely beautiful. This is such a unique experience. The free ride through the African plains gives you a front row seat to the animals that coexist in the plains. Attractions were reasonably priced. There are so many food and drink options throughout the facility. You will easily spend an entire day enjoying this beautiful zoo. I can't wait to come back!

Had a great time taking a guided behind the scene tour. Had visited the park many years ago still a great place to visit wild animals in a fairly large habitat unlike many zoos that keep these magnificent creatures in small enclosures. Park looked well kept and clean, staff were inviting and friendly and above all animals looked healthy and cared for.

What an amazing experience! We rode the tram almost immediately after we entered the park. It was a great way to see different areas. All of the staff we talked with seemed well-educated and to deeply care about the animals and the park itself. We had lunch at the Watering Hold at Kijamii Overlook. The food was just so-so, but the experience itself of watching the animals was totally worth it! Our two favorite exhibits were the California condors and the duck-billed platypus! Bring a lot of water if going on a warm day. We would have been able to stay longer if we had been better prepared. If you are in areas where there isn't much shade it is HOT.

Awesome place (zoo) my husband and I had an amazing time. Love the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere surrounded of animals. Also you don't feel like they are in cages even though the is dividers. Employee and volunteers where very helpful, nice and respectful. A huge plus for me is that there is hand sanitizers everywhere and employees are wearing mask. Definitely recommend.

Simply the best! I was very impressed with this animal park. Loved the tram 😍 I recommend spending an extra $90 for a safari, plenty of photo ops, great for kids, lots of bathrooms. Well worth the money especially for this non-profit. Very educational and I learned a few things 😜. Parking is $20 extra.

Safari Park pre-pandemic: 5 stars. Safari Park 2023: 3.5 stars. To be clear, it’s still an awesome experience for any animal lover, but if you’re picking between going to the SD Zoo or the Safari Park, I’d recommend the zoo. More animals and more bang for your buck at the zoo—to really experience the highlights of the Safari Park you have to pay up for one of the safari tours. The cost of admission is $70 alone and adding a safari will cost another $60-150+. While safaris are optional, it’s really the only good way to get close to some of the animals (giraffes, rhinos, etc.) given the enormity of the space. Animals have so much acreage to roam, which is wonderful, but it does mean they may not be in viewing distance from the sidewalk. If you take a safari, the guides will drive you out directly to where the animals are. Pre-pandemic, the safaris offered incredible experiences like feeding giraffes and rhinos, and petting rhinos on their horns. It made the experience worth every penny, however, you no longer get to feed or touch any of the animals. I read that these experiences are no longer offered because while the park was closed during the pandemic the animals got used to not being fed/touched by tourists, so when they reopened the park they did not resume these activities. Not sure if that’s the reason, but either way, it’s a shame because at least for me, the contact with the animals was the best part. It was disappointing not to have that opportunity. The safari was still cool, and our guide Kelly was incredibly knowledgeable. It just quickly turns into a very expensive day. For two admissions tickets and two safari tickets, we spent $400. We could have easily spent a lot more had we wanted to ride the carousel, take the balloon ride, etc. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is a wonderful cause, so to me it was also worth it to support their efforts, but would just advise others go into it aware of the costs.

What a beautiful zoo dedicated to keeping animals in a more natural habitat type setting. All of the volunteers are knowledgeable and readily available to answer questions. Recommend that you take the Africa Tram early morning upon arrival as the wait is shorter. Easy to get your 10k steps while enjoying the grounds. There was amazing singing by the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians in the Amphitheater. There are numerous educational kiosks throughout the park. Don't bypass the Bonsai Gardens as they are amazing!

If you are in San Diego and looking for an awesome outdoor activity to do this is your spot to see. There are limitations since COVID 19 Restrictions are in place. You have to wear your mask continuously. The tram system is not operational so put on your walking shoes and get some great exercise with AWESOME scenery! They do have private truck and cart tours if you wanna shell out the dough. $336 and up for 6 people maximum in your party. All in all still an great tourist destination well worth the visit.!!

Nice environment to trek upon. It is truly an amazing park filled with lovely animals. The staff there are truly tremendous and courteous. Excellent ice cream and frozen lemonades! Perfect treats for a hot summer day! 😋. One of the staff members, Austin Major, was kind enough to walk around with me and tell me about all the animals as we passed each exhibit. 😁

Excellent park to see world animals. During Covid is open with limitations: rides and groups safari are not available. You can only order private safari and tours when entering the park. Most of other areas are open. We spent about 5 hours and saw pretty much all. Be ready to do a lot of walking. We did about 4 miles total. Hot food is available at multiple restaurant throughout the park. Great place for kids and adults to spend a day!!

Roar and Snore at the San Diego Safari was an awesome experience. I heard people say that you can hear lions roar at night and when I visited the exhibit I heard there were only four lions in the park. I thought “yeah right, how loud can these lions be? They don't even move, I bet we won't hear them roar tonight.” But that night sure enough I could never have been more wrong in my life. The lions were loud, so much so that my 10 year old son stayed up listening to them excitedly. He could not wait to see them in the morning. And as soon as we got up at 6 am we headed to the lions, and the experience to see them up close, albeit behind the glass was amazing. These lions are big, they are more than half the size of a cow, they could eat a cow! After that, we saw the tigers and they are equally amazing. Everything I paid for the Roar and Snore was well worth it and more. This would be an experience my children will never forget. The staff at the zoo were great, they were attentive and very helpful. Everyone I spoke to was always happy to help. Keep up the great work SD Safari!

I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS!!!!!! Today was alomst in tears as I lost my job the morning and my 2 two boys were driving me crazy one of your staff members I believe her name was Brittany with long brown hair she had a calming yet caring and positive attitude she turned my whole day around I was on the verge of having a break down when she stepped in and asked if I was ok and spent the time talking to me and occupying my children so I could pull myself together I’m so glad she did I’m so thankful for her kind words and helping hand today.

New exhibit coming late March 2021 at the the Philadelphia zoo! Some kind of walk through interactive experience with animatronic dinosaurs. It’s going in between the otters, cheetahs/bald eagles , beer garden & the birdhouse/picnic area. Overall, the Philadelphia Zoo is one of the best places in Philadelphia. We’ve been coming here often for 4 years now. Always a fun time.

Expensive, but fun. The tour guide on the paid tour was wonderfully animated, making the trip into the wildlife exhibits that much more fun. The platypuses, (not platipi, as taught by our tour guide) were not swimming around sadly. Food is even more expensive, but I'm told all proceeds, beyond the park, go to wildlife preservation and medicinal breakthroughs, again, as taught by our guide.

Great place to bring the whole family and enjoy lots of great spots. It's really expensive to eat and drink here so plan ahead. Also, if you ask any spot that sells drinks for a cup of water they will freely give you a icy cold cup.

From the immaculately crafted landscapes to the beauty of the animal habitats you can truly feel the care that the WAP has for it's clients, which is to say the animals! If your a patron who enjoys a good beer then treat yourself to one of their micro brews as you explore condor ridge and the old world gardens. Plenty of well placed and clean bathrooms will alleviate any worries brought on by the sheer generous magnitude of their pours. Visit the petite elders of the bonsai garden and revel in the tiniest juniper trees you've ever seen. Scour the Savannah with an up close truck tour or take to the skies and afford yourself a hawk eye view with their hot air balloon. Let the kids cool off in the water area right next to the Cheetah run. Your proceeds go towards supporting the wild life so all the enjoyment is shared. This place is fantastic! I recommend it to anyone of any age.

Amazing zoo, park is beautiful with a variety of garden and wooded areas, tram experience through the free roam area is awesome and included with your ticket. Many places to sit and relax, have a snack or drink and watch the birds. You could visit for the scenery alone. I spent 5 hours here and only saw half the zoo. It's well worth it to buy an annual pass that combines both safari park and SD Zoo and visit both.

Not sure how I've never reviewed this til now.... but here we are! Excellent place for a Zoo trip! Obviously in connection with the San Diego Zoo.... the Safari Park has so many visible animals and the huge open area where so many roam relatively free! If you've never been..... definitely go! If you're sensitive to heat, avoid the summer months. There are quite a few open areas where it gets pretty hot! I've been coming here for 35 years now!

Don’t forget your water bottle, hat and sun screen It’s hot and hilly on this Safari park. The it’s nice and jungly. They try to have spray mist as much as possible to keep you cool. There is a small area for little children to play with water. The tram is the best park where it is like a safari through the side of where some of the animals roam, it is safe. It’s beautiful to learn and emerge yourself in that moment of the samples of the habitats of the animals. I bought the annual pass for my family since it is the best value over all.

What an awesome experience the tram ride was really cool being able to see all those animals out like that next time we go I want to take the Safari trip where you're in the truck out with the animals we saw lions and cheetahs so many different animals unfortunately the gorillas were already in by the time we got there next time we'll start with them tremendous numbers of birds of all types through service was spot on the employees were all very helpful and very friendly we had a great time and we would highly recommend visiting this park. We have memberships we bought the one that includes a little more than some of the others it was $425 it gave us the ability to bring others into the park and to have larger discounts. really being able to park up by the door and cut the lines makes it definitely worth it!

A must-visit in your bucket list. This Park truly feels like a safari. Wildlife are not "caged." They are enclosed in a pretty wide space to comfortably roam around. There is a stall at the front where you can rent strollers, wheelchairs, and/or battery-operated scooters for whole-day use. There's also plenty of park benches and shaded tables with chairs for you and your family to rest. We did not visit the whole park, but we already walked 2 miles. We crossed several refreshment areas at the Tiger trail and on our way to the Australian outback(?) Where we sat down to rest, grab a glass of lemonade, and hear fascinating stories about the animals inside the safari from wonderfully passionate volunteers. We saw the very interesting personalities of every animal we visited. Please pray for the two Bald Eagles' healing. One of them was rescued with injuries to its eyes. The paired partner seems to be okay and comfortably moving around looking for its "prey" (food). Have the volunteers tell you their story, and your heart will go out to them. We watched in overwhelming awe and fascination... the demanding Harris HAWK juvenile fighting with the adult, the talkative female tiger looking and waiting for her dinner, the large-billed bird who loves to be photographed, the kangaroos who are nosy about other kangaroos' business, etc. We will definitely come back, to complete the visit, to see the Golden Eagles, revisit the Bald Eagles and the Tigers. Prepare your pockets: Parking Fee of $20, Park Entrance Fee for each person, Mobility Equipment rental for the kids or disabled, refreshments, and memorabilias. They prefer CARD, not cash payment.

The safari zoo is well worth the drive! The safari excursions cost extra, except for the team, and they're expensive ($75+), but the team was a fun 25 minute ride through the animal sanctuary. It's a huge park with loads of fun activity. We spent a few hours there, and we could have spent even more time with the animals.

My 1st time to California and I'm not disappointed! The Safari is pretty cool, and the animals have a lot of area to be free. I would say there is a lot of walking for sure, ups and downs inclines that are pretty formidable. If you are staying at a resort I would do the 90 min sales pitch to get the free tickets if you can or if the resort offers that. @65-71 per ticket plus 20 to park or 38 for up front Parking ,it would be well worth it.

We had a great time! It was my first ever visit to the park, and I was really impressed. We were there on a school field trip, but there were so many people going in the gates that I feared it would be super crowded inside...however, the park is so big and spread out, that we never felt or saw a big crowd of people at any point. The longest we had to wait was maybe 15-20 min for the tram. My five year old granddaughter loved getting her face painted, and loved the play areas. We absolutely loved the beautiful scenery and all of the gorgeous animals. Seeing the only two Platypus outside of Australia was definitely the biggest highlight!

Battersea Zoo for kids is absolutely fantastic. The selection of animals is great, especially all the different monkeys, pigs, and otters. It's really well looked after and maintained, you can really tell the staff care about it. In fact, when we took our daughter recently one of the zoologists - lovely guy called James - gave us an impromptu chat with loads of insight into the zoo and all the different species. Would heartily recommend as a great place to take kids and spend a morning or afternoon. Top tip: the mini golf pizza place in Battersea Park does delicious pizza, work up a hunger at the zoo and then "mangare"! 😋😋😋

If you’re visiting San Diego, going to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a MUST! There are so many fun activities for the whole family, including up close encounters, a hot air balloon, and a train around the park. There’s tons of parking, plenty of food options, and a lot of gift shops too. You can grab double tickets for the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park at a discount.

Go to San Diego Zoo instead The San Diego Safari Park was very disappointing to me, it is huge but if you are not going to be the extra money to do the extra expensive activities, it would feel like the most expensive hike through the trees, not much of animal encounters, and most of them are very far that you won’t actually see anything. If you are willing to pay a small wealth to do all activities, I imagine that it would be a lot of fun. I enjoyed their sister San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park much more.

BEST SAFARI EVER!!!! We opted for the Caravan Safari, which takes you deep into the African Safari region. The guides (Joe and Rachel) were extremely knowledgeable and we learnt a ton of cool stuff about the animals. We got to feed rhinos and giraffes, which made for great photo ops. And throughout the entire journey, nobody pressures you to donate. But I ended up signing up for a conservation donation anyway because it was so obvious how much hard work, care, and dedication has gone into this place. Keep up the awesome work guys!!

My family and I love the Safari park. Even during covid-19, which has brought some different restrictions, it's a blast! We got to enjoy their misters today, which was a super rad addition to the cool breezes under all the trees. The staff is always friendly, and gave us quite a few good laughs. I can always admit food is pricey, but reasonable in some aspects. Love the free refills on the drink, definitely worth it for a group. Also, enjoyed seeing all the new spots they have been constructing. Can't wait to go back when everything is reopened!

Super fun zip line! The guides were super friendly and it was a high quality tour. He warned us before bumps, and answered any questions we had about the animals. Animals seem very well taken care of with all the space to roam and they seem very happy in general. Our guides for the caravan tour were just as great, and the private tour felt very personalized. The driver picked a very good path that he took us on, and it was amazing overall. The park is very clean, and staff are helpful all over. The volunteers are experts and go above and beyond to ensure a great experience. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun experience.

MPORTANT!!! While this is a lovely place, be extremely aware that very, very long walks over hilly paths are necessary. The website was not clear that as of February 2021 when I went, the tram tour is not in service, so there is only walking unless you want to pay additional fees for a Safari tour. The charge for that tour was just under FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS extra per family on the day I went. Be sure to bring strollers for kids and wear comfortable shoes.

Love the zoo so it's not surprising I'm a subscriber. A day at Melbourne Zoo is always an enjoyable excursion. We prefer to travel there via public transport with both the tram and metro stopping at their entrance. Friendly knowledgeable staff abound all willing to answer questions about the animals in the enclosures they are attending too. My favs are always the lemurs, the giant tortoise , the butterfly house and platypus house. The place is squeaky clean and has many food options to suit nearly every budget.

Overall enjoyable! Smaller than the others we have visited, it was a fun day. We did this and adventure aquarium in a day, and it was great! We went in October, 2020 and without knowing part of the buildings and other exhibits were closed so that was a bit disappointing. We did still have fun though. A bit of a maze, so be sure to map check to see everything. The lion exhibit is probably the best thing here. Literally of course with glass, the closest I've ever gotten to some of these animals.

My wife and I took our daughter during our vacation to San Diego. So glad we went. A lot to see and a lot of walking but we knew that going in. We didn't pay for any of the extra safari trips; we just did the African Tram, which was included in the entry fee. If you don't want to pay extra for the various safari trips, the Tram takes you mostly close to all the African animals. All the staff was friendly and helpful when we were trying to decipher the map and get around the park. Long day but worth the stop.

I have been coming here since I was a boy and it's been one of the best experiences everytime. The park itself is pretty big and there are tons of different shows and animal exhibits to see. Expect to walk A LOT though which isn't a negative, just a warning. Summer months are going to be hot so bring water if you go then. Fall is a good time to go as the weather is more comfortable.

A great escape. The zoo is well kept and managed. Clean, organized and laid out right and ample things to see and do. Also the cause is perfect. They research they do with all the proceeds and fund raising truly is help a cause which often is hopeless. Great kudos to the team of folks who enable the experience be one of fun and joy for kids and adults. Would definitely visit again. May seem expensive but keep in mind it is going towards a noble cause. There is ample parking but can be crowded. The day I visited it wasn't too crowded. There are some rides inside the park which requires separate tickets. The general admittance allows for a standard short tour on a tram for the Africa exhibit. Buss and and smaller vehicle tours are also available at additional charge.

It was SO FUN! It was not packed (on a Sunday!) but that was probably because it was 100 degrees. There were yummy foods and drinks, and amazing animals! I think our favorites were the giraffes and rhinos. We went on the Africa tram and it was so fun! The petting zoo was also the best!! The goats are so friendly, soft, and cute! Also, we could always ask a staff member for help; they were readily available throughout the whole park. Overall we will definitely come again, maybe when it’s not so hot 😅

I was just so mesmerized by how close I was to this big, beautiful animal that I can only see in books, pictures or Animal Planet. The tram was absolutely awesome, it exceeded my expectations. It can be alot of walking so I would suggest some good walking shoes, sunblock, water and don't plan on carrying lots of stuff. To compare to the zoo, I would say if you want to get a closer look, a bigger habitat but not as many animals because the animals are mainly from Africa, and the zoo has lots of animals to see, but from a further distance with smaller habitats. I highly would recommend the safari park.

It's an amazing place to visit and learn about animals, their habitat and conservation. If possible include a safari into your itinerary. The Deluxe wild life safari gives you a 90 minute up close journey into the wonderful world of rhinos, Giraffe, and other animals. The park is well maintained, with proper directions and lots of places to eat and take breaks. A tip, start from the top visiting the Australian outback and come down to the African plains and other areas. The l baby rhinos, giraffe and elephants made our day.

We purchased the 3 day pass and this was our last day. I was really frustrated with their map and app. The map was not sized properly and the directions and roads were not always correct. The app kept crashing. Signage was poor and confusing compared to the zoo and we were constantly getting turned around. As for the animals, there's a lot less to see than the zoo and you can tell. Definitely some cool attractions just not a lot. I'm rating this a 3 because of the additional safari price and what we got. $89 a person and we spent more time doing other things and driving around then what we paid for. It was 90 minutes for 20 minutes of the attraction. Wasn't worth the money in my opinion.

I am a annual pass holder. (It is cheaper then buy individual tickets twice). I live closest to the zoo but it's worth the 40 minute drive to see the safari park. It is not as crowded and more space. This park is stroller friendly. My two year old loves coming here for all the playgrounds, water areas, and seeing all his favorite animals. Useful park information Parking is $15 (unless you have the higher level annual passes). The safari tram tour is free and takes you around the open area t(he wait time went by quickly). Please bring walking shoes because there is a lot of ground to cover. There are few close Animal encounter options where you walk through their habitats; like the kangaroo walk-a-bout or feeding Lorikeets (costs $8) which are great photo opportunities. For $20 you can ride 400ft up in the hot air balloon. There are plenty of gift shops and dinning options. Show your annual pass for a discount!

We arrived when the park opened, and all employees/volunteers were helpful and informative. It wasn't very busy at all, so we were able to take our time and see everything we wanted to. The tram driver gave a moving speech about conservation efforts and why we should care about their mission and the plants and animals we saw. Very memorable experience!

Enlightening and insightful visit. Great to see all the animals that you would only find in certain other places on the planet. Kids had a blast and learned a lot.

San Diego Zoo and Safari Park is an excellent example of what a zoo or nature preserve could be. There are three habitats where the large animals are allowed to roam freely. Your safari will absolutely take you very close to the animals while respecting that that's their home and you are visiting. Some animals in enclosures are equally as spectacular. The Platypus exhibit is a must see because you won't find them anywhere else in the world except Australia. While I think the main downtown zoo is more impressive, this is absolutely a must see for a second trip to San Diego!

The Safari park is a beautiful place to go for adults and children. Although a few of the animals were sleep or avoiding being seen, it’s a nice place to see animals you will only see on TV for the most part. If you been on an actual safari excursion this may not tickle your fancy but I loved it.

Very nice and well-maintained park. I visited the zoo first, then the safari. I think the safari is good enough. I gave 4 stars because I think its over priced, parking per car is $30, general admission $62, which includes a tram but its route is really around the safari park and you can’t see much. The safari ride closer to the animals are additional $89. The park is very nice and I do recommend visiting.

The Safari Park is always a fun day. Part of it you walk around looking at different habitats and animals, like any zoo, but then you get to the tram tour through the range exhibits, and that's when it gets really fun. In different large areas - of many acres - numerous species of non-carnivorous animals roam together, just as they would in the wild. In these large groups on open range, the animals behave much as they would in their natural habitats. I've been to the Safari Park many times and there's always something new to see. And if you are up for spending a little extra on your adventure, the zip line over the animals is spectacular fun.

Hello everyone let's see my adventure over at the San Diego Safari it was okay. Nice scenery nice little brisk walk before you get to the entrance. Hope you have your comfortable and I mean comfortable walking shoes. I first ordered my tickets through AAA. But there's some things the AAA don't know. So I will tell you right now if you have the chance to call the safari park itself and ask for the pricing and I mean the pricing on everything from the tours to the petting zoos. I understand that all this money goes to the animals but the pricing was ridiculous. I only went here because one I have never gone and number two a friend of mine is diabetic and has bad feet. So I thought right in the rides would be the way to go well the vehicles doing the tours. Now the African tram is free that's the only one that is free. From the balloon ride and three other vehicle rides that get you a little bit closer but those package deals are different ones too the cheapest was $67 per person and went up to 100 and something dollars for other rides. To get in some of the petting zoos you're looking at 12-14 per person the food of course will we didn't stay after that. But like I said the most exciting part was seeing the animals. As for the kid toys and stuff they had certain things but I thought that could have been better. But if you want to go and just see the safari zoo itself because you've never done it it's something to do for the first time. Although I won't be doing it again

My favorite part was the gift shops and the wildlife safari. I wanted to right a comment letter but forgot where to get one. I enjoyed my ride and especially loved my tour guides. I told my sister and my mom that every June 21st I will return and request to see Rebecca and Doug. They made the experience wonderful for me🤍 The only down side was when we were at the hot air balloon, my mom bought herself a ticket but when it was her turn the employee skipped her number. The employees shift ended and another employee came that did also skip her number. We spent a good 40 minutes and more waiting. She did get a refund though. I honestly don’t like zoos that much due to the fact that most are poorly taken care of or not spacious for the animals. But these animals appear to be healthy and thriving.

Too much walking to just to see a few animals. It seems like we are passing through the paths to more shops than seeing animals, like tiger and kangaroo. Walked a very long distance up and down the hill for the tram. Wait time was very long and animals were far away, some description of the animals were skipped. We did the balloon ride it was $20 with 8 person at a time about 40 minutes wait to get on. It was fun for the experience. There’s no animal you can really see except for elephants, the fields, and the people walking under us. This is the most expensive zoo I have ever been to that seems to have less animal you get to see.

This was a great stop on our trip to San Diego. Plenty to see and beautiful walk through as we made our way to the safari trolly towards the back. I wish the markings were a little better to make sure we got to see everything in the most efficient way possible but we managed to make it through the entire thing including the safari in about 4 hours and that's considering we stopped for lunch. Great food options, super friendly staff and beautiful day all around.

My two girls and I went on July 3, 2023 because my older daughter got free tickets from her job, for both the zoo and safari zoo. I do recommend you get the cart package ($62 a person) it was so worth it being able to enter their enclosure on the outskirts with a tour guide. If you really want to get close to the animals and personal, there’s another package deal for $99 a person. (I forgot the name of that tour). So it depends on what you want to see and learn about these animals with a tour guide. It was an awesome experience for my 7 year old. Don’t waste your time in line for the tram ride as the lines and wait times are long. Yes it’s free and it comes with your ticket entrance, but you don’t get to see much of the enclosure part of the Safari. I hope this helps.

Beyond the Scenes African Safari tour is extra and needs a reservation. A guided tour beyond the scene with the most informative guide driven around and beyond in a passenger cart for 90 minutes. These tours are the best way to navigate throughout the park. We had a private bird show too. My family made the comment we learned so much more about wildlife than if we were just on our own through the park. I highly suggest it. Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable.

What can I say about the Safari, just amazing. We did 2 safaris. The deluxe cart tour which was brilliant to see more parts of the park and with a tour guide providing so much information. The highlight was the zip line! Over the park and we’ll worth the money. Incredible views

This really is a full day experience if you have kids and include a tour. We arrived around 930 and, with a 7 y/o and 9 y/o, left around 430 finally finishing every exhibit. Lisa was our tour guide for the Africa Safari cart and she was absolutely amazing. She made the kids laugh, answered all their questions (of which there were many) and treated us to a view of the elephants too! We kicked out and got to see great views of the big cats walking around in the lion and tiger pens as well. I definitely recommend getting the City Pass if you are just visiting and combining it with a visit to Legoland to save some money.

We did the Roar and Snore. After a night tram ride to see animals, we had a great dinner, smores, private walking tour, and a family Bingo game. Camping in a comfortable tent (bring your own sleeping bag!) In the morning, private lion and elephant viewing, breakfast, and a show of animal ambassadors. Overall, we had a wonderful time!

San Diego Zoo Safari park is a great place to enjoy animals, and they are not caged in a small place. The tram takes you to the spectacular African plains. You can see endangered animals. There are many many restaurants on the way as you walk through the park. As you walk through the tiger trail you can see that there is an adult tiger and 2 cubs. In the park, usually coming early is recommended. As the animals are active in the morning.

This place was amazing!a lot of zoos I go to give the animals inhumane places, and it makes me sad. Though this zoo was clearly out to make a better future. The animals had lovely enclosures, and very open space. There were tons of animals as well. Our personal favorites were the cheetah and his friend dog, kangaroos, and the large variety of antelope cousins there. Highly recommend!

A great place for families. Although I'm not a great fan of zoos, the animals here all look healthy, well fed and, on the whole, have decent sized enclosures. Aside from the animals, there are loads of play areas including playgrounds, sand pits, a helicopter and a fire engine! There are plenty of places to sit, handwashing facilities and hand gel scattered around the place, takeaway food bar, clean toilets and there is parking across the road. The keepers are very knowledgeable and all staff are very pleasant.

Great location. Quite small so ideal for younger children. My daughter (5 yrs) liked the sandpit, the sit in fire engine and was fascinated by the small reptile enclosure. It was good to see lots of hand washing stations and sanitiser. People were also being respectful of 1 way system in place. We'll be back :)

There was very little in the way of social distancing during my visit other than the implementation of a one way system. There was no real effort to encourage distancing between adults with it being difficult not to remain in constant close contact with others. While there were signs asking visitors to wear masks in the indoor spaces, nobody observed this. I love this zoo and have visited many times in the past with my kids but, if you are still concerned with social distancing during the pandemic, you will find it very hard to do so at this attraction.

My son had the Mini Zoo Keeper experience as his 6th birthday treat. He is obsessed with animals and would like to be an "Attenborough" when he grows up. He prepared the animals food with the zookeeper and feed them in the enclosures. Jamie the zookeeper was a legend! He was kind, compassionate, patient, informative and involved my son in everything. Above all he was great fun and is a fantastic role model. I wish there were more Jamie's in the world. The experience has really inspired my son and he said it was the best day of his life. This store is my hero. For a first time pet owner I'm unaware of the regular things that kittens can contract. My kitten contracted TAPEWORMS 🤮 I was livid because two weeks prior she was examined and DE-WORMED. Well they said she ate a flea that was infected. Sorry my kitten is a house cat, and the reason is because she has no fleas. Petsmart told me i had to have another exam $$ NO!ABSOLUTELY NOT. SOUTH BAY PETSMART WANTED ME TO DO ANOTHER EXAM. Well I contacted PETCO and they said come on down and gave me instructions. The medication was kind of pricey 24.99 for 3 pills, but this was better than paying for another exam and medication. I only have to give her 1/2 of the pill to kill the parasite 😉 so I have more medication in case she gets them again. Thank you PETCO

When we call them regarding our issues or problems the customer service agents are not capable of handling them. Only they can do is take money. They don’t have an email address / phone number for issues. They told me that I should write a letter to them instead. What world are they living in? I had a membership issue because of the virus situation and they refused to take this into consideration. They insist that since the zoo is open we should go visit. In this coronavirus situation would I risk my family? No! But they refuse to acknowledge this. I spoke to an agent named Debbie and she just kept repeating we were open. I would not recommend buying this zoo safari park membership.

Don't go on a day off from school... lesson we, a kid free couple, learned so you would not have to. That being said it was fun. I liked that this place shows that science is more that physics and chemistry. They bring nature (aquarium and other animals), plants, rocks, and life itself. The aquarium was very robust for the size and the ability to walk under and around the tanks really allowed you to visit the undersea world. The planetarium was well done. We saw the Neil DeGrasse Tyson show. It was well worth the wait.

Great safari park , on the expensive side considering not everything is included for that 60 per person price. Obviously not all exhibits are open because of covid , but the majority were. This place is huge so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to cover the whole park I would say at the very least , 3 to 4 hours. Overall I would go again , just remember it will not be cheap. 2 adults was $135.

Beautiful park, very clean, well themed, attention to detail is amazing. The animals look happy and have a ton of space to roam around. It was originally a breeding facility, that they turned into a place for people to observe the animals. It is a 1000 acre park with abundant places to view the wildlife. There are plenty of different trails to take, and a ton of places to sit, rest and watch the animals. The terrain has many hills, and it is quite a bit of hard walking, they do provide electric scooters for those in need of them. It is extremely family friendly, and has playgrounds for children to get out their extra energy. If you are into alcohol, they serve different beers at every food spot. The park does beer tasting where you can pay $25, get a wristband and receive four 12 ounce beers. They also have mixed drinks at restaurants. During Covid they have some exhibits closed, limited attendance, masks are to be worn at all times, they have hand sanitizer, and hand wash stations set up throughout the park. I have been going here since I was a kid and it is nice to see how much it has evolved over the years. I love it, I hope you visit and you fall in love too.

Me and my friend visited on the thanksgiving day to this beautiful park with connected trails. It's a good exercise in the wild to walk all through the park. Go early to see a lot of birds in the sunshine and then move on to safari tours to see a variety of wild animals. As it's covid time, many of the places are closed but it's worth visiting rather than getting bored in the city. Carry water and some snacks, however, food wasn't that expensive inside. Limited menu to get through the day while striding across the park. My favorite was the Tiger trails with absolutely great habitat for the tiger kings and walking ambience for the visitors. Have fun!

Elephants have to eat 300 pounds of fodder per day and 15 gallons of water per day. Elephants eat between 149 and 169 kg (330-375 lb.) of vegetation daily. Sixteen to eighteen hours, or nearly 80% of an elephant's day is spent feeding. Elephants consume grasses, small plants, bushes, fruit, twigs, tree bark, and roots. In a day, an elephant can drink 50 gallons (200 liters) of water. Elephants have been known to learn more than 60 commands.

Well 2020 has been a year. Luckily the Safari Park has been a welcome relief during what even eternal optimists can only muster to call the “first year of this decade.” My family and I have visited the Safari Park easily once a week during 2020 and it has provided delight after delight. The foot traffic at times was very low, and we even had the opportunity to spy native mule deer walking through some areas of the park from the surrounding hills! I cannot recommend visiting the San Diego Zoo Safari Park enough, whether it is your first or 100th visit.

Wonderful place. Though I wish there were more non-human primates. And the dearth of vegetarian options for food is pretty disappointing. Went for my birthday in hopes of trying the jackfruit wrap, but they were out of it by 11:30 and they had no idea if or when they would get more. I'm still a member and proud to support the work they do for conservation and education.

A complete rip off during Covid 19. Rather then paying employees to stand around guarding elevators, pathways how about paying them to operate the concession stands. Its all closed people. Concession stands, soft serve icecream, African tram, nectar bird feeding, bats, condor ridge, and more they're all closed:(

  • 4/5 Troy S. 3 years ago on Google
Certainly a great way to see some amazing animals. Unfortunately, with Covid there was no ability to go on the safari drives, which really sets this apart from the SD Zoo. The Bonsai Pavilion was pretty cool though!

Update: First day opening in Jan 2021- in a post COVID environment the park has done an excellent job keeping everyone separated. Masks are required and we were content with all the precautions taken. Currently many of the attractions are not open secondary to COVID social distancing. Still had a great time! Original posting: Well organized, very well presented animal information. Kept our while group interested and entertained while simultaneously learning. Good to bring a backpack with snacks and water- plan on spending 3 to 5 hours. Lots of amusement park style food options available as well.

I took my family of 4 here last month, we had a great time it was not too busy and we ate there to keep it simple. We ordered the deluxe veggie burger with fries and mandarin orange chicken salad, it was amazing! The park is very large, well planned out, and very well decorated and maintained. I recommend grabbing a map at the entrance and planning your route. I hope everyone has as much fun as we did!

Too much to do in one day. We recently moved here and just decided to be members as there is so much to see. There were not as many animals as I expected (a lot of birds though) but the grounds are beautiful. The paths meander around the park and even without a map we think we saw most of it. It was a good six hours of walking (short break at one of the cafes to enjoy the view). This park is huge with a fairly large space between habitats. If you are going to see a wide variety of animals the Zoo is better suited but if you enjoy walking this is very nice. There are a lot of hills which are easy to navigate but need to be considered. We will be back. Again and again

I visited the park long time ago before I had kids and I have really fond memories of the place. Today I took my husband and 2 kids, 11 and 1 year old whom have never been to the park and we all were very excited. The park was a total disappointment! The whole point we choose the park was for the tram so we can see the animals roam around like in the wild. The tram was closed along with a whole bunch parts of the park including gorilla. My kids were so disappointed that all they saw was elephant tiger and lots birds. Just ticket alone to enter the park was $170. They should have written on their website in bold writing what was temporarily closed so families can decide if it’s worth for them to drive all the way out there and spend the money. We left the park after in less than 4 hours.

We purchased the Los Angeles, CA City Pass & honestly, this was the best thing on it! Rainforest animals, butterflies, evolution, aquarium, skull exhibit, living roof...it's sensory overload! Definitely a must if you have kids, even if you don't & you're a big kid.

The Safari Park has evolved over the years to stay relevant, so it's a great full family day. If you buy the annual pass for both the Zoo and Safari park it's worth it. You have always paid for parking here so get the parking pass too, where at the San Diego Zoo parking is free. Enjoy!

This has been one of my favorite Zoo experiences since I was a kid. I highly recommend this park. Very spacious and open, it feels very authentic and there are plenty of chances to learn a thing or two about the animals from the various zoo keepers around the park. I could go on for a long time about how great this place is, but you’re better off just going and experiencing it for yourself. Being the kids, and have some fun!

We had a nice time today. The line to get in was long, but it kept moving and the 45 minutes went quickly. It was unfortunate that we had to leave early because we couldn't get a platypus viewing time before we needed to leave. (We were offered 2:40 at 11:30, but we needed to leave at 2.) It's also too bad that most of the aviaries are closed. We did get to go through Wi gs of the World on our way out. My boys were also disappointed that face masks are now required so their face shields were not sufficient.

Visited today, although I knew that it would be busier than a normal weekday due to the holiday I felt confident that with the required “reservation” there would be a limited capacity and I have to say there was way too many people to walk comfortably. We tried to maintain our distance and in some areas it was not possible and some people who are not respectful just come right up into your space, literally on top of you. There are some staff members scattered around but not nearly enough to help ensure the social distancing. Some areas are blocked off causing unnecessary congestion where there would normally be extra walking areas. I knew some animal encounters would be limited also but some, like the lemurs had literally one lemur in the whole enclosure. It was a nice day to walk but not worth 200.00 to spend the day trying to walk through crowds and not being able to have a safe enjoyable experience

Terrible experience with nothing but arbitrary rules that only apply when they are not charging you money for something. Want to eat? No problem, no distancing, masks or anything required. Want to walk down a path by yourself? Be careful, they will surely catch you and scold you for not properly wearing a mask.

I always enjoy the Safari Animal park. I was a bit sad that the Africa tram was not in service, due to the pandemic. Had a nice walk visiting the enclosures. The gorillas and elephants were very active today, had a great time watching them interact with eachother. The cheetah run was also cancelled, it was a bummer since I really enjoy seeing it. Overall it was a great visit and what I like the most is that we help this place feed those beautiful animals and continue with the wonderful research they do.

What a great place to take your kids to. You can spend a whole day there and still you would be able to see everything. A nice change from typical zoos with small cages for poor animals. The only drawback is that it's a bit far away from the city.

Be prepared for LOTS of walking. Parking is $15. The platypus exhibit is timed so pickup timed tickets before they run out. Wish I knew that before but we live in SD and we were already planning to return. Didn't get to see a lot before this park is HUGE. I'd recommend planning ahead what you want to see. I'll do that next time. Plenty of food choices but overpriced which is expected from places like this. Overall a must-see but I still love the SD Zoo more.

  • 2/5 Andrey R. 3 years ago on Google
Paid almost $600 to walk the park and to ride in a truck through the safari. It was a ripoff since we didnt even get to feed the giraffe's or really see anything up close. There were 4 of us and the truck was big enough to fit 3 other groups on each corner with more than the required minimum for social distancing. My wife and I have never been there before and were expecting a bit more interactive experience but were disappointed by the overcharge of a lessened experience. We were better off going to a regular zoo and seeing the animals closer than wasting money on an overhyped dirt ride.

I didn't know what to expect when my partner suggested to visit Randers Regnskov. When seeing the domes I thought it would be botanical gardens. But it turned out to be some kind of indoor jungle walk. In the domes birds fly freely and there is places were there are other animals to look at. There is a great variety of animals what makes it really fun. It's basically a mini zoo meets botanical garden. We were there in a rather busy day. That's a little much. Since it's rather small we had the feeling of being pushed forward during the visit.

Very disappointed in this wild life park, after getting tickets online at $50.00 a person. There is still a15.00 parking fee. Once inside you find a large percentage of the exhibit closed. Then being told that the tram was closed, but you could pay 300.00 for a six seated Private one hour tour. So you don't get to see a lot of the big animals. I understand Covid is causing a lot of problems but I think they are taking advantage because of the pandemic, they could have had the tram with the six people for the normal charge. I also think the extra charge for the Tram in general should be included in admission price.

Most animals can be seen relatively close, though some can only best be seen on one of the safari tours which can be pricey. The zoo also requires a lot of back tracking which leads to more walking. Overall a nice zoo though.

I, my daughter, and my grandbaby, took a drive through Escondido to visit the Safari Park yesterday (2/23/21). We got there around 11:00am-ish, it was a totally different (in a GOOD way, lol), experience then a few years ago when I went. There weren't a ton of people crowding the pathways or blocking others from seeing the animals that are out in their enclosures (because of covid-19, the park is only allowed to let a small percentage of their regular capacity of people into the park, and those people are supposed to "make a reservation" in order to be let in, I assume it's so they can keep track of how many people they let in each day...they also have hand sanitizer dispensers all over. Infact they require everyone to use sanitizer before they'll let you on the elevators or into the shops) Most of their food stands we're closed, no biggie cuz we brought our own food and water (much cheaper that way, lol). The bathrooms seemed MUCH cleaner and... Absolutely, NO LINES 🚫 for ANY of the Women's Bathrooms 🚺!! I noticed that there was a separate "Family Room" in each bathroom for changing diapers and privacy for nursing mothers🤱. They even had a rocking chair set in a little cozy cut out spot between two walls, incase you wanted to rock your child... Pretty accommodating 🚼!! Overall, I'd say our trip to the Safari Park was way less stressful then it used to be, due to less people being let in at one time, and therefore making it a much more intimate and enjoyable adventure for us. There was however, one change that was disappointing...There were NO bus or tram rides going on 😢. I assume it's only temporary and due to covid-19 protocols.

What a beautiful place to visit late afternoon. Many of the animals were hiding, the monkey walk was long for little legs to see very few animals. The only big cats we saw were the snow leopards but they were very special to see. The carousel and dinosaurs were highlights and we had to see the platypus twice. Uber eats delivered a beautiful meal to the front gate for us and we listened to music and watched the carousel as we ate. It’s a great time to see the museum as crowds are smaller with covid.

I’ve been here twice now and it’s one of the best I’ve visited! Parking is easy and inexpensive ($2 for 5 hours) and the loop design of the exhibits makes the zoo so easy to navigate. The animals have been so active each time I’ve visited, which I believe is a testament to how happy and healthy they are. A keeper at the lemur exhibit today was so informative and explained how they’re working toward building a koala hospital and making sure the animals have the most natural, open-range enclosures. Having a zoo membership is absolutely worth it!

Excellent day out for both adults and children. Hadn't been for over a decade and a lot has changed.. the exhibits are very immersive now and there's plenty of rest areas and kiosks for a bite to eat. Highly recommend a Zoo annual membership which allows unlimited visits to here, Werribee Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.

Probably one of the best values in San Diego, when you buy a membership you can go to the safari park or the zoo. We go quite often just for our afternoon walks, enter the park one or two hours before they close, it's much less crowded and so much more enjoyable. Our favorite Trail is the African Loop, that wind is way too beautiful landscaping, water features, and of course fascinating animals. Last night we saw the Lions on top of the Safari vehicle, hop off and head over to their straw beds for the evening, right in front of the visitor glass.

Had a blast with my kids. All the employees were super nice and had answers to all my questions. The zip line was worth every penny. Can't wait to go back

It was my husband’s and my first time to come here, and we didn’t expect much, but we had a BLAST! It was so fun and it was beautiful out there. We came on a Tuesday, so there were not much people when we came there. The place was huge, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes to walk around. Don’t miss the Lorikeet landing, African tram, and the Walkabout Australia. They have additional payments, except for the African tram, but they are worth it.

Beautiful Safari Park! I like this better than the San Diego Zoo! I was so into the animals exhibits, I didn’t get to take that many pictures. Possibly the only downfall is the food being expensive and not so great.

This was a truly amazing experience and totally worth it. Ths San Diego and LA Zoos get all the credit but this one is the true gem even if you don't have extra money for the extra excursions. We went for a friend's daughter's birthday and had a good time. We were sort of reluctant because it was a bit more pricey than the San Diego Zoo. There is a lot of walking and inclines, so be wary if you are visiting with elderly or very small kids. This is one time I would recommend taking a stroller. We took the safari and it takes you down closer to some of the animals. You're not in the immediate vicinity so, don't worry, it's not dangerous. 😏 I can't remember but I think you can bring food or water. I think you can get a military discount in advance. Be prepared because you have to pay for everything. But, still it is worth the trip!

Had a great time again at the Wildlife Park. It was overcast, which was great. Previously went and it can get hot there. Animals more active when cooler. Didn't take a lot of pics thus time, but I did of the clouds and baby rhino.

Fantastic adventure, animals and area in great shape. Nice staff. However, prices are insane. We paid for a daily ticket and Safari $200 per person.

Went to see my sister's memorial on one of the towers. It was very nice!! We loved it!! All the animals were out. To end the day was a lantern festival, it was a perfect day!!

It was good experience. Get to know and see all the animals. The park was big. Be prepare for walking. We come at weekend and was not too crowded.

The safari park is a great time! Definitely recommend doing the tram ride close to close during the winter- the twilight close to sunset was beautiful. I’m very thankful for the ongoing conservation work done by the San Diego Zoo organization.

The safari park is truly an amazing place to spend the day. Beautiful grounds and atmosphere. The new Australian outback section is really exciting. From the platypus to the tree kangaroo, just fascinating. I really love watching the elephants and hanging out in any of the aviaries and watching the birds. The "Birds of Prey" show and some indoor experiences, like the bats, are still closed due to Covid, but there is plenty to see and do.Like everything, ticket prices have gone up and parking is an additional $15.00

I liked the zoo, I liked SeaWorld, but man I loved the Safari!!! I definitely will come back here. I feel like I may have missed some stuff but really I wouldn't mind doing the same circuit again and again! The kids loved it too.

5 stars for beautiful animals and 1 star for the employee rudeness. Accessibility: there are accessible parking spots near the entrance and electric vehicle charging ports. I didn't see any wheelchairs but there might be some. Call ahead to ask and hopefully reserve. The park is big and spread out. Not too many covered areas for shade so bring your sun hat and sunblock. Experience: the two female employees who were working at the gates to enter the Safari Park on Friday 12-10-2021 were super kind, welcoming, and smiling big which made me happy to be here for the first time ever! After that, none of the other employees seemed too happy to be there and I even had one employee (white, older man) come up to me and be straight up rude out of nowhere. I was taking photos of elephants, just like the other people who were there, all of us BEHIND THE WOOD FENCE, ON THE PAVED TRAIL, JUST LIKE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE...VERY FAR AWAY FROM THE ELEPHANTS...and this employee comes up and says something like "you better not step any closer." I replied, "of course not. Why would I do that?" And he stood NEXT TO ME AND JUST STARED AT ME MAKING ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. I left the park after this. How rude. I was following the rules being on the path, behind the fence, and he says that? Terrible. I would rate this experience lower but I kept it up for the animals.

Amazing! The flora fauna is also a main Attraction here. The volunteers are phenomenal! All the staff are so friendly and love how informative and friendly they are. The animal exhibits are outstanding! Definitely plan to spend the whole day here.

Just to emphasize, the location of the safari park is about 35 miles north of the zoo! There is a separate entrance fee to the park, and depending on what safari experience you choose, you pay for that separately! The deluxe version was awesome, it went through 3 habitats with ample time to see the animals from a very close distance! The staff were also amazing and very knowledgeable!

Great attraction to see! Was a more natural atmosphere for animals and it wasn't too crowded but we also went in January! Some of the attractions we wanted to see were closed due to covid which was a bummer but for the most part it was pretty cool!!

  • 5/5 Kristen L. 2 years ago on Google
I find all the plants as intriguing as the animals! Love the outback marsupials, so cool getting so close to a bald eagle and condors! The 5 yr old gorilla was pretty entertaining, a daredevil!

A truly magical place. Going in January midweek there were no lines, crowding, or waits for anything. Get there when it opens for parking near the entrance and no wait to get in. Start out with the African Outpost hike to see some animals and get a feel of the place. Take the tram ride included in your admission for a great overview of the park. Then take the African Plains trail for a closer look. The Nairobi walk goes to the Tiger Trail to the Condor trail, through the World Gardens to the Walkabout Australia. Lots of playgrounds for the children, A couple of massive aviaries to see truly impressive birds. While the animals are awe inspiring the gardens are filled with strange plants from throughout the world. The App was worthless in the park as it does not highlight the trails you wants to take to see everything from all the other roads. Pick up a paper map just inside the entrance which has the trails well marked and the lands in different colors for easy navigation.

Had an amazing time. We went right at 9am Monday morning and the park wasn’t too busy. Lots to see with the animals right in sight. Many different trails. The tram was perfect! Cat was funny and had a lot of information to share. Will be back for sure! Would recommend to see as well as the San Diego Zoo.

Beautiful with many exhibits that will entertain young and old. Don't forget to bring your comfortable walking shoes, water bottle, and glasses/hat as plenty of walking will be done. Usual hours are from 9am-5pm. We came with two little ones under 5 years old and they enjoyed it. Will come back again.

Nice safari. My first time there was on Feb, weather was amazing in 80s. I enjoyed the tram where we got to see giraffes, rhinos and different antelopes. We also enjoyed our lunch in the food court with the mountain view.

I did the Twilight safari tour and it was an incredible experience! You get to drive so close to the park and at the end you get to relax to see the view at the top with snacks and drinks included in the tour. Highly recommend this tour. We had Stephen and Joe for the tour and they were both amazing guides who were professional, funny and engaging with us. Can’t wait to come back to try other tours as well, hopefully next time we can feed the animals. 🤗

It's really easy to write a 5-star review when you show up on what was probably one of the best days of the year. So I recommend going the day after rain when it is sunny and cool (60's). All the animals were out and active. It was a fall weekday as well, so the park was virtually empty. I thought the extra $ for the safari tour was worth it. You see the same area you see on the free tram, but on the safari tour you drive out into the middle and get much closer to the animals. It's also a small group that allows more interaction with the guide.

Had a great field trip with our school. There are so many wonderful animals to visit. Park is clean, and so are the restrooms. Most employees are friendly and welcoming. The food area is equipped with a variety of quick snacks. We enjoyed our day at the Safari park. There is a small playground area with plenty of shade that became our spot for about 20 minutes. Kids had a blast.

This place is amazing! If you are in the area, stop by and see how well this zoo is run! The landscaping is beautiful. The animals all seem very well cared for with large habitats. We enjoyed the cooler, June weather in San Diego and the animals were very active. The Wildlife Safari was an unforgettable experience! The Giraffes are amazing and our tour guide knew them all by name!

Had the best weekend outing with my family a couple weeks ago. This Safari park was super clean and had lots of volunteers around to help with directions and questions. I also noticed they had a good amount of security and police officers walking around the entire day! Really enjoyed the Safari tour where we got to see giraffes and rhinos pretty close up. Be prepared to walk a good distance, and make sure not to wear sandels unless they are extremely comfortable. The younger kids loved how they had little water features to play in around the park to stay cool. Perfect first experience and will be back this summer.

Our absolute favorite place to visit. Doesn’t feel as crowded as San Diego Zoo since it’s much bigger. Many animals to see and explore. Great trails for walks with amazing views. If you are local, membership purchase is definitely worth it. Plus, with every visit you are helping animals! Have fun!

If you don't mind a lot of walking, this is an amazing place to visit. Such a great variety of animals and habitats. It was quite warm the day we went, mid 80's. But plenty of shade to be found. Loved the Kangaroo walk about. Kangaroos right in front of you, with no fence between! Also loved the peaceful Bonsai garden.

We had an amazing time at the safari park. Didn’t get to do any specific safari. You get map when you enter and can explore whole park on foot by yourself. African safari is free and it’s included with day pass. Line for that is usually long so make sure you do that in the beginning. Certain areas close early such as Kangaroo section. So make sure you cover those early. Pro Tip : Sit on the left side on the safari ride. You will get good photos/videos. Make sure to download its app on your phone. It will help with navigating around the park. Parking is $20 One day pass for adult is around $65

The safari park was a lot of fun to visit. The exhibits for the animals are spacious and nice. There are a large variety of animals from different locations and ecosystems to see. Tickets are expensive and if you want to do any of the safaris past the basic tram that doesn’t get you very close you have to pay some steep additional prices. But the park itself is very nice and worth a visit. We enjoyed our day there.

A days worth of fun with the animals. The tram tour (free) was educational and amazing. I would say that I mostly enjoyed watching the tiger cubs play. For those that tend to go to parks in uncomfortable shoes, please wear comfortable shoes because there are lots of hills and if you happen to go on a very crowded day, your constant seating options would also be limited.

Great place, but it's a confusing layout, in my opinion. We couldn't figure out how to leave when the park closed. We ate at a restaurant that overlooked the fields. It was amazing to see giraffes and other animals running by while you're eating! We ordered tuna sandwiches, a beef and cheese sandwich, and mac and cheese. All the food was delicious too, so that was a double win! I LOVED the safari experience that we paid extra for! Hands down, my favorite part of the entire day. The guide was AMAZING and so funny! Will visit again when in California!

Staff were super nice and helpful. Spent the whole day there, scenery was beautiful, took the African safari cart ride, our guide, Lori, was amazing. Lots of places to take pictures. Saw the 2 baby tiger cubs. All in all definitely worth it, also worth buying the Safari ride too!

As a pass member, I get to go on a wim. Went late in the day on a Friday. It was overcast and cool. The park was not very busy so it was nice. Wanted to grab something to eat and then see if the Tigers were active. While walking down the Tiger trail, we saw most of the Tigers out and moving around. It was the most activity I have seen for a while. There is a mother tiger with two cubs, and while I was there, the mother brought the cubs out to play. It was so cute to see them wrestle with each other and the mom. The first picture is the cubs. The second is the mother. The third is the mom, with the cubs playing in the bamboo off to the left. The fourth and fifth are the mother. The sixth is the cubs playing. The park is starting their late night hours for the holidays, and I will be going back to enjoy the sights and sounds at night. Had a great time as always.

SDZ Safari Park is one of my favorite places. We had a spectacular visit in late December for the annual holiday light display. Lights were wonderful. Light tunnel was neat. Condor Ridge and nearby snow light effect on trees was beautiful. We did the tram at sunset and saw a beautiful sunset. Animals were very active Baby giraffe Elliott was with his parents. Platypus exhibit was illuminated (in the day its dark). Always worth the wait to see them the only place outside of Australia.

I highly recommend the Safari Park. I like it way more than the zoo in San Diego city!! It is so well maintained, the animals look very healthy, the landscape is beautiful, and the size is very big. My daughters really enjoyed the Tram tour where you catch a good glimpse of a variety of savannah type animals (including a gorgeous black giraffe!). Personally, it makes me happy to see kangaroos which is very rare and I've been obsessed with them since very little. Take your family, friends, boyfriend, wife or go alone, but GO!! A must visit if you're in town or live in the area!!
