Extremely nice and well maintained zoo. Very big. Exhibits were well taken care of. We loved the little desert walk through. It was very reasonably priced. I think that is probably one of the best zoos I have ever been to. It was easy to navigate. Flamingos are my favorite and they had a really great exhibit with lots of birds! Hole in the rock was very close almost within walking distance if it wasn't too hot. After the zoo we drove over and climbed up and were in awe over the view. Well worth it and I'm so glad we stopped.

The phoenix zoo was amazing for myself, my wife my 8 year old and my 7 month year old. It was a busy day, but the lines were short, none of the attractions were crowded. They have definitely upgraded the grounds and even have venues for weddings and birthday parties. The membership option is a great value, pays for itself in just about 2 trips. We are going back next week to see the African wildlife exhibits we missed. Plenty of restrooms and snack stands. The petting zoo is always a hit with my kids, and I love the river stingrays and alligator exhibits. My wife thought the prairie dogs were adorable, and the carousel was a big hit. I have never been so terrified in my life, of, my baby, having a freak accident and slipping off. My stress was at a 99 out of 10. My apologies, our pictures are more of the fun my family was having, and not the animals themselves

Plan at least 4+ hours if you want to see all the animals. It is a huge zoo, both in size and in the variety of animals on exhibit. The Arizona landscape in the savanna area adds a wonderful element of authenticity and ambience that other zoos don't have. There are lakes, little islands for monkeys to call home without netting, and so much to see. This is a wonderland for children as well. Lots to do to keep them entertained all day. It's definitely worth the $40/person for adult admission. And if you live in the area, the membership is well worth the investment as well. Highly recommended.

This is a great zoo. My kids had an awesome time. They have a lot of exhibits and also places to eat and playgrounds. My kids loved the petting zoo the most. The flamingos and orangutan were also pretty popular. They have a big beautiful lake with islands that different animals hang out on, and it has a beautiful mountain backdrop. We were really glad we got membership passes.

This zoo was a lot of fun to go to! We got there right at 9am and was able to finish by noon (that’s without stopping frequently for food and drink and doing activities) Walking around is not bad here. For the most part, it’s pretty flat and not super hilly. Lots of cool and unique animals to see Staff was super helpful and informative and looked like they actually enjoy their jobs caring for the animals and teaching Definitely recommend stopping by when you have the chance

This was our first visit as a family and we had such a good time. My kids were both so excited, even my teenager. It's always fun to learn about the animals and get to see them. We went when they first opened and it wasn't too busy, but it was definitely getting busier when we left 3 hours later.

This is a wonderful zoo. It great for all ages. They have a very ample variety of animals there. It's separated into sections, so it's easy to see everything without trying to figure out the place. It's a big place, so be ready to walk! It's worth it, though, and they have seating benches all over the place. Note: Going during summer time could be very, very hot!

The zoo is really nice. I like the atmosphere; walking all around watching the beautiful trees, flowers and some lovely animals. It is amazing and you should spend half of a day, if you wanna visit all the animals. African animals are most visited and they look so beautiful, water's side/ part is the best part of the zoo. King lion,Rhino, Camel, greater flamingo are really lovely and giraffes are amazing.

To say I love this zoo would be an understatement! I enjoy this zoo more than the San Diego Zoo. The size is just perfect, and without a lot of steep hills. There is a lot of shade at the zoo, which is super important in Phoenix 🌞. Everything is immaculate, and the zoo employees have always been very courteous. The zoo has splash pads for the kids, a really nice merry-go-round and a tram. The animal exhibits are organized with a lot of fun information for kids. There are a lot of bathrooms 🚻, which is always helpful. Another bonus: you can take in a cooler and eat a picnic lunch by the water. We purchased a Family Zoo Membership, which is a great deal if you live nearby. Be sure to check out the Monkey Village if you go. It's very unique. Parking is free, and the walk to the gate is reasonable. The zoo rents scooters and strollers. Another huge benefit to membership: Members get in one hour early. The zoo has the usual animal exhibits that would be typical at most zoos. I am so grateful to have this zoo available to visit as a local.

Really enjoyed this zoo not too packed and definitely the petting area was our favorite especially for the kids. The best part was the camel ride which our little one got on twice on how much she enjoyed it. Would highly recommend to buy tickets only because to buy tickets at the place is a very long line. We just went and showed our tickets and we were let through with no problem. Overall very good expiration for your little ones. Will be back again.

Absolutely wonderful place to visit in the right weather! Phoenix summertime it would only be first thing in the morning. Christmas time and zoo lights is something spectacular. There is a lot to see, a massive area, including a playground for kids, carousel, fountains, farm animals to pet, a souvenir store and even a hall to rent out for birthday parties! I highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance in order to avoid lines. Tickets are being scanned and then it's a fast entrance. They could cost a little less though, but it's still worth it. Animals are being taken care of and kids have an opportunity to see them from close by.

Some of the nicest enclosures for wildlife I have seen. The wildlife have a ton of room to stay active and the park was well maintained. Why the two stars?? Where are all the animals/reptiles/birds? We saw one giraffe, one rhino, one monkey and few birds you can see in the wild. It was like Jurassic Park, are we actually going to see animals on this tour? $100+ for two adults and one child. I think we will stick to the Wildlife World Zoo off Loop 303.

Super fun zoo! It’s really big so get ready to walk. They do rent strollers, wheelchairs and scooters. Adults only took us about 2 hours, with kids it probably would be longer. It’s Hot, make sure you dress accordingly and bring water. Lots of little snack bars and cafes across the park. Lots of benches and resting areas with picnic tables.

The zoo is pretty good and well maintained, some of the sections are closed probably due COVID. Construction is in progress in some of the areas of the zoo and it would be even better after the construction. There are a lot of animals to see, tiger and lion being the most in demand. I won’t mind having another visit here.

We have always loved to be around animals in the Phoenix Zoo does not disappoint. On our first visit we got a membership and love to go the hour early before the heat really hits. This was part of my birthday week to go see the giraffes. There is hardly anybody there early in the morning during the heat. In the summer they open as earlier. It’s a great way to take a long walk and also support and care for these animals.

I will always and absolutely love this place! Coming to this zoo as a child, and as an adult now makes me so happy! They are creating new exhibits for the animals, and everyone is always trying their best to keep the place clean. The new update in the gift shop is absolutely nice! Of course the food is a bit expensive, but going at the zoo during a nice chilly day is fun! I came along with my sister's school field trip, so we did have to wait a bit. But that's understandable. The string ray bay was absolutely worth it! The people there with red hair, and another person were very nice to my family and I! Feeding the stingrays is so nice. And they make sure you know how to feed them. Always be prepared to pack up snacks, and water! And always please make sure to pick up your trash!

Such a great zoo! There is so much to do every time you come. The animal exhibits are great! You can get up close to most of the animals. The zoo has entertainment for all ages here. You can ride a camel, hit the splash pad, ride the merry-go-round, and the farm area has a playground and petting zoo - so much fun! Definitely recommend coming early in the morning to see the zookeepers feed the animals. Concession stands all over the grounds, and the exhibits are well spaced out. There are tons of different event nights throughout the year, too! It's definitely worth the visit!

My recent trip to the Phoenix Zoo was a pure delight. The impeccable organization and cleanliness made it a welcoming experience. The zoo's commitment to naturalistic habitats for its animals was evident, creating an environment that closely resembled their native homes. The zoo's dedication to conservation and education shone through informative displays and presentations. Seeing their involvement in breeding programs for endangered species and their efforts to reduce environmental impact was heartwarming. I left the zoo with a profound sense of wonder and a renewed commitment to wildlife conservation. A must-visit!

Fantastic zoo! We especially enjoyed all the cool reptiles, desert animals, camel riding ($6 or $8?) and the petting zoo with lots of cute goats. This zoo is very large and spread out, so be ready to walk a lot! Next time I want to rent the motorized animals you can ride around the park (charged by the minute)!

The Phoenix Zoo is a fun place…even for adults. There are a lot of exhibits to see, and the walking trail is well laid out and easy to navigate. There is still some ongoing construction, but it didn’t take away from our fun and excitement. When Zoo Lights returns, I highly recommend you go. Beautiful light shows and it’s different seeing the zoo after dark.

Was a beautiful wonderful day. Not too crowded, animals were awake until 12. Staff was friendly. A lot of exhibit consumed but that was due to "the virus". Extra (paid) activities are about 12 for members per group. Food is reasonably priced BUT you can bring your own. Highly recommend. Personal not: I hate the ride on animal scooters. But hey, what can you do. People hate exercise.

We loved the zoo. We really felt like this zoo stood out because they seem to care a lot about their animals. The have rehab facilities and sanctuaries for injured and affected animals. So much variety including desert variety. We loved it due to the children friendly atmosphere and food options. Although we didn’t eat, there were many options and attractions available. Would recommend to families as a half day activity or full day activity. We loved the petting zoo and the farm animal attractions. Bummer that the giraffes were closed but understandable.

I went at 930am on a Friday. Not sure what was going on but all the animals were sleeping. Seemed like they were on drugs. It was the most quiet zoo I've ever been to. They didn't even seem to have many animals. Very disappointing. Seems like they are more focused on zoo lights. We did see a 1 zebra, 1 elephant and a flock of flamingos. Hopefully it will be better next time.

I took my wife to see ZOO Lights and the traffic was horrible! There were Police Officers, ZOO Employees, and Volunteers directing traffic flow. Very crowded! Lots of people here! No one was wearing a mask! But, it’s an outside event and there are no mask mandates here so people don’t need to wear a mask! Don’t you hate wearing a mask? It’s $20 a ticket to enter Zoo Lights. Beautiful Light Displays! The Cafe and Snack Area’s are expensive! This is a Big Lights Display! Lots of paths and walk ways! Plenty of benches and chairs. But, the benchers and chairs especially the ones bye the lake we’re all taken because of how busy it was! I was trying to take some good pictures. But, people where in the way and taking forever to take there pictures! There is a Camel Ride and some animals outside to see. You exit thru the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop is a little expensive! Great place to bring a family or a date

Wonderful family experience. We have reciprocity through our local zoo membership so our entrance fee was discounted. Check your local zoo membership to see if this might apply to you! The petting zoo was a fun addition the kids enjoyed. There are a variety of exhibits and lots of stops along the way to entertain the kids.

Definitely recommend the Phx Zoo Lights. A great way to experience the zoo with loads of light displays and if you get there early will be able to see some animals too. Open through January, so not crowded at all and very open and safe during this time. Hand sanitizer stations all over. Snack bars open too. You cannot access all of the areas, but still worth it.

Such a display of holiday lights! What a great way to get outside to walk around a bit. Expect to spend about 2 hours, maybe less if you're a fast walker and don't stop to take pictures. And if you do like to take pictures, you'll take a lot of them.

The Zoo has been a great retreat on the weekend the last couple of months. People generally have masks on. During the afternoons it's not very crowded so social distancing is easy. The walk ways in some areas of the zoo during the ZooLights experience can be quite crowded. However, just pull off to the side or wait half a minute and let the bulk of the people get ahead of you. Once that happens, plenty of space around you. The lights are just amazing at night. The entire family really enjoyed the experience. The central pond does a light show every once in a while. You'll hear an announcement as it gets closer. Short but great. I like that the light wands and necklaces are not overly priced. You can easily get something for the kiddos without giving away the bank. If you plan to go more than twice a year, get the annual pass. Definitely recommend that and feel it's the best way to go. Lots of discounts when you have the pass.

Love the atmosphere, it's definitely better than Glendale Glitters, love the light show, a family-oriented atmosphere, would come next year. Overall, had a blast. P.S it's night so, you won't see all the animals. Don't be a Negative Nancy, if you came to the zoo lights, just to see the animals. Duh, it's called zoo "lights" for a reason.

We did drive through Zoo Lights and it was very well done. About a 1/2 hour wait time but the line was moving quickly for how many cars were there. We’ve been to walk through Zoo Lights many times and this was better in my opinion. The lights were more organized and well spaced for the drive. They had a Christmas radio station to tune in to. The lights were all highly visible from the car.

Very big zoo, we weren't able to see the whole thing just because of the heat but they let you bring in water bottles/coolers, there's a splash pad to cool off in if you bring bathing suits, and there are plenty of exhibits to look at and enjoy. Definitely will be back to finish exploring the rest of the zoo.

Zoo Lights is an affordable experience for the family this year. Be sure to buy tickets online to save the time of waiting in line. They do serve alcoholic beverages as well as soft drinks, water, and hot coco. kettle corn, pretzels, and all the classic snack foods. Warning if you get there after the zoo's parking lot has filled you are directed to another lot and there is a fair amount of walking from the lot to the zoo. Love the light show they play throughout the evening.

We bought a membership at the beginning of the year and love it. 2nd time we went this weekend and the weather was perfect. The parking lot was packed and we did have to walk a ways to enter the zoo but wasn't so bad. Inside it wasn't as packed as you would think. There was a closure on the park path but we planned our visit accordingly and were still able to see the entire zoo in the time we were there. We will definitely be back a couple more time to enjoy it. Totally recommend buying a membership instead of paying for a trip, you wont regret it especially if you love the zoo!

Me and my family a group of about 13 of us went out for zoo lights and it was amazing. The lights were beautiful and well put together it was something to see for the whole family young and old. It was night and it rained the day before so the animals were not out at all but with the dinosaurs exhibit and all the lights it was still so much to see. They now serve margaritas 🍹 that can make for a even better adult experience.

Zoo is open 9am - 5pm. Takes 3 hours to walk through. You may bring coolers, ice chests and your own food. No glass containers. This is a large facility, lots of walking, sometimes you don't get to see the animals because of the weather. There's lots of fun activities for kids, and many more add ons that cost extra money. Free parking!

I don't have little kids anymore, but wanted a good place to walk and get outside more, so I bought a membership to the zoo. I love it! I'm not sure I'd recommend buying a one day pass (price!) but the membership has been worth it. There's so much to see, and a variety of add-on activities like dining or rides. I love seeing the updates and new things when I go. Definitely getting my money's worth from my pass!

Amazing zoo, very green, no plastic bags for merchandise. Animals look to be treated really well here, enclosures for the bigger animals are huge, making it seem more natural. Definitely would recommend everyone to visit if in the area, purchasing tickets online on their website will save you a couple of bucks and being able to skip the ticket booth lines if any at all. Atmosphere was very clean, they do an impeccable job with that. If you're not a long walker, I'd recommend the scooterpals, as an adult, you can ride 2 person on it, pretty fun actually and you can unleash the kid inside you. 😁

We only went for Zoolites. Very nice display, beautiful evening to walk the park. Saw a few animals. Sat on a bench near the water and saw light show from beginning to end. Great outing for the family. More of a treasure hunt to find animals. We saw a lone elephant, rhino, Chinese alligator, bald eagles, hyenas, vultures, and flamingos. Lots of photo opps with the pretty colors of lights.

Great zoo in terms of animals! We came on thanksgiving day and it was a beautiful day and not too crowded. Weather was nice and cool and it felt like being in an air conditioned zoo! I would easily give this 5 stars if they charged a little bit less. I go to a lot of zoos and this was one of the more expensive zoos I’ve been to, it was around $107 for me and my wife and my 4 year old daughter. On top of this, if you want to do a bus shuttle thing, it’s an extra $6 a person to do it. There were these cool scooter things, and those were $5 plus around $0.35/minute. We also felt weird seeing camel rides at a zoo. Again that costs more money, but seems weird to subject camels to being ridden at a zoo for money. Staff were nice and facilities were nice! Just seems like they could improve a few things.

We had an exceptional day at the Phoenix Zoo. We went on a Friday and there was only light foot traffic. Additionally, the weather was very mild with temps in the 60s and slightly overcast. These two factors meant all the animals were very active, and we felt lucky to see and hear many that we had not before, including the lion's roar, and the Cheetah's chirping! This was the perfect day to go. If you can arrange it, a weekday in February is perfect 👌

Expensive for what is open. Lots of "for your safety this is closed" signs. Closes at 3 instead of 5 because of zoo lights. Didn't see any elephants or giraffes. Had to eat under trees with birds pooping everywhere because no indoor seating allowed... will give it one more try in 3-6 months, but not getting a membership any time soon.

It's a very good place to visit, especially with kids. During Covid-19 I can't think of any other better place to visit, but animals have to live in their natural habitat.

  • 5/5 Donna S. 3 years ago on Google
Guests have to wear masks even though we are outside. The zoo was clean and employees were kind. The petting zoo is only open for viewing. The fries were good but the onion rings were overly greasy. The hours were short, only open until 3pm, so get an early start, it takes at least 3 hours to see most of the zoo.

Such a lovely zoo! Some on the encounter areas and kids playground sections are closed due to covid but still so much to see. Animals looked happy and were up walking around. Lots of enrichment set out for them. Plan for a day of walking, some incline changes, plenty of drink/snack options. We didn't rent them but they had rideables for rent and you can pack in food for your visit.

Excellent way to spend your evening. Went on New Year’s Eve and the zoo lights didn’t disappoint. Staff is nice and helpful. Food is super expensive so make sure to take your own if you don’t want to spend them extra bucks!!! Yes!!! Outside food is allowed and the tables are always available. Gets super cold after 6:30...7:00. Thick comfy clothes are must. Don’t expect to see a lot of animals.

  • 4/5 Mrs. Lakshmi B. 3 years ago on Google
I loved the place overall. Well cared and maintained for. Lots to move around and explore. A few resting areas were also open. The only trouble is I wish it had a few more snack shops distributed over various trails than just be accumulated at a single spot towards the main section. Other than that, it was a very incredible place to relax with friends and family. It has also beautiful locations to party in for small events. The zoo has definitely been a place for me to visit at the very least once a year. Winter in July and the lights festival are two of the most awesome experiences in the zoo. Definitely recommend a visit. The gift shop also carries a lot of useful stuff in it. Just remember that sometimes, if you exit the gift shop, you may need to re-enter using zoo entrance and not the same way back from the shop. Lots of food and drink options are available for purchase in the central location inside the Zoo (just not much options for vegans and looks like it will probably be improved over time).

Zoo Lights were amazing. We {two adults} did the "drive your own car through the zoo* version instead of walking -- it was like being a kid on a safari. We spent the entire drive with the car windows down, pointing and laughing at the clever (and often funny) light displays. The zoo staff/volunteers were super friendly and exceptionally well organized. We were able to check-in and start our drive without leaving our vehicle. The driving route wound through the zoo and was easy to navigate. There was so much to experience during the drive. There had to have been hundreds of different animal light displays! I can't even imagine how long Zoo Lights took to setup. Two thumbs up. We will definitely be back next year.

Loved it! My 5 m old daughter and I went with a friend. We got there at the opening time. Spent most of the day walking and seeing the animals. My daughter loved the flamingos. All the animals were out playong, eating or walking around. Towards noon they started to find their shaded rest area for their nap. I liked my first visit. Definitely worth it! Oh and it's nice and big with some good inclines.

Great Zoo! Went around 12-3pm was still a little warm out. Was glad to see all the animals! Really wish I went when it was cooler. Must wear mask and surprisingly wasn’t as packed as I thought it was going to be. Price is very affordable for what you get to see. Will be back again hopefully for Zoo lights.

We love the zoo! If you live in the Phoenix area with kids, a membership is a must! It's very reasonable if you consider going once a month like we do. It makes it worth it to even go for an hour. Our baby's favorite part of the zoo is the tropical bird flight where you can actually get close to some types of a birds in an enclosed area.

The zoo in general is okay. Zoo Lights this year was mediocre. The lights around the pond (that usually go with the music playing) were not good and they didn't seem to even follow the music this year. No polar slide, which was the best thing there :(. No 4d theater. No petting sting ray:( and we were going to ride our favorite camel,Dale,(since riding camels was the only event open) to find out he died! He was only 20:( 🐫 live to 40. We think he died from covid (since they told us he died around when covid started, but they said stomach infection(which is, I'm sure, what corporate told them to say!) Just a really bad zoo light experience this year:(

Large zoo with lots of exhibits. During this covid area there were many areas closed, but that's totally understandable. Excellent safety measures in place. My only complaint is that there didn't appear to be a clear path to take through the zoo, so we were constantly lost or back tracking. Would visit again if in the area.

Zoos are not a good place to go if you have animal empathy. With that being said, the phx zoo is a nice zoo to visit. Some of the attractions are closed, for virus reasons and there are rules for 'social distancing but none of the people that I encountered cared diddly-squat about social distancing and I saw no park employees sanitizing or cleaning door handles an such. Regardless of all the duplicity the phx zoo needs our help and they got my support 100%.

I mean obliviously one of the coolest places to visit 🙌 🐻🐸🐒🐢🦓🦒🐫🦚🦩As well as, one of the safest places to go. Staff is super attentive to people who don’t have masks on and bathrooms were very clean and stocked! They do require masks 😷 social distancing is practiced. Lions, tigers, and bears 😉 you can see them all! AND they have an entire exhibit spotlighting Arizona critters and wildlife. 🌵🦂 Of course, you can still see the elephants, giraffes, and big cats too! They haves I many well done exhibits and highlight every animal in their own way! This is like my 4th time seeing the zoo and it never gets old! I’d recommend this to anyone/any family! Give yourself 3-4 hours here. SO much to take in. LOTS OF PHOTO OPS. SO. TAKE PICS!

We went to the zoo lights for the first time and I can legitimately say it was awesome. The lights were coordinated with music and they had a holiday light section that would play a special holiday music show. I would def recommend as a date night or family night. Social distancing and mask mandates are enforced.

  • 5/5 Brianna B. 3 years ago on Google
I love that as an educator from another (albeit MUCH smaller) zoo I can tell that the animals are well cared for and have plenty of enrichment. I LOVE the mask requirement since people have a hard time staying apart in many areas. So many fantastic exhibits and I loved having all the sanitizing stations available. The only improvement might be some one way requirements for the narrow indoor areas... but quite frankly people might not follow them anyway.

  • 5/5 britney l. 3 years ago on Google
Had so much fun At the zoo. The tickets are reasonable priced for as much as you get to do and see. They have over 3,000 animals. A few things were either closed down or a few animals were not in their exhibit because they were being monitored I think some were sick. Regardless it was a great time. Good way to get exercise and have fun at the same time. They have drinks ice cream and food there but if you don't want to pay for it you can always bring a picnic basket or a ice chest so you can make your own sandwiches tons of places to sit through out the paths. They had a train you can pay extra for where it drives you around and the driver explains information about the animals. The zoo is always a good family outing.

  • 5/5 matt k. 3 years ago on Google
There were quite a lot of people but it didn't feel packed, social distancing and mask mandates were in effect so it was very family friendly. Most food stations were closed except the larger establishment ones for a quick bite. Some of the attractions were also closed but its understandable given the times. Can't wait to go back!

It was great. Awesome variety. I deducted a star because of there covid craziness that you had to wear a mask out in the open fresh air. No where else do you need to be this careful.

  • 5/5 James R. 3 years ago on Google
Wow. This zoo is so amazing. I went with my family and had a blast! The animals are all alert and active during the day and the prices are incredible for the amount of wildlife you get to experience. If I had to pin point an issue I would say that the porcupine enclosure needs to be bigger. That big guy is cooped up in a tiny fiber glass enclosure and needs something bigger with dirt. Porcupines are burrowing creatures and need a place to feel safe and secure as well as active. If given the space to walk they will walk. (Example Wildlife world zoo and their porcupine enclosure.) Other than that, like I said before, the zoo is filled with life for a good price! ❤️❤️❤️

  • 3/5 Tisha H. 3 years ago on Google
It was nice outside and the place was clean. A lot wasn't open due to covid, which is nice they are taking precautions but sometimes it didn't make sense. You can't go up and get close to the giraffes, but you gan go into the reptiles exhibit. Or you can't see the orangutans but you can go in a similar enclosure and see the tigers. For 50, a LOT was closed. I would wait and get your monies worth.

  • 4/5 Chad M. 3 years ago on Google
Nice zoo, could have a better flow so that you could hit all the exhibits in loop vs having to double back a lot.

  • 1/5 Steven B. 3 years ago on Google
It's probably a pretty decent zoo, but there are so many closed exhibits, it does not merit a $25 entry fee. All of the attractions that cost money, such as merry-go-round, camel rides, indoor food vendors, gift shop, etc are open....so I guess covid only affects attractions without cost....the hypocrisy is telling.

  • 5/5 Nick J. 3 years ago on Google
This place is pretty cool! Lots of awesome exhibits and you can get pretty close to some of the animals.

  • 3/5 Sarah A. 3 years ago on Google
It was an ok experience but leaves you feeling unsatisfied with the overall experience. We were so excited to see all the animals but felt more like we went to a bird santuary than a zoo..let's be real... you don't get too excited over many birds and this place had exhibit after exhibit of them. The bigger animals that most people go to see were hard to get to and unappealing to the eye. There was a good amount of people but not enough to feel uncomfortable. Mostly disappointed that we paid money to go see a thousand kinds of birds and a hundred types of snakes and spiders.

Manageable amount of animals, two full day visits will let u see everything thoroughly. Too many kids for me, but then again that's prob what the zoo is for...who am I to judge

The exhibits that are open are well themed and provide a good amount of enrichment for both the animals and the visitors. Right now there's a fair amount of exhibits either closed for covid or under construction for fall 2022. The signage could be a bit more clear, we did get lost a few times, but overall it's one of the nicer Zoo's I've been to!

  • 5/5 Mike S. 2 years ago on Google
It was sprinkling today and one of the best days I've had. Animals were out and even caught the lion roar. It was powerful.

  • 4/5 David T. 2 years ago on Google
Good sized zoo, but I felt like the map and general layout was confusing. You could navigate through the zoo a hundred different ways. Even though I felt like I was missing out on a lot of exhibits, there was a good variety of animals which were out and about even during the hottest part of the day. Paid $30 per adult, you can pay $120 for a yearly membership and bringing a guest.

  • 5/5 Hannah K. 2 years ago on Google
Love it. Great zoo experience. The exhibits are seamless with the area and the scenery is awesome. Really enjoyed the music along walkways also. The landscaping was so nice, ended up skipping the botanical gardens because we felt like we'd seen them already. Love that it is nonprofit and accredited with a big conservation focus.

I love the zoo, great place to take your family. They exhibits were great just wish they had water spray fan for guest also not just animals. Luckily they had 2 splash pad for the kids to enjoy. The camel rides were good and the safari ride was Educational and gave a break from walked.

We have yearly passes to the Phoenix Zoo. It is worth buying the passes to not feel rushed. I'm the summer it is quite a toasty trek, but in the other seasons it is beautiful. Our most recent visit it was raining and it was the best trip we have had so far to this zoo! Absolutely stunning and made the entire zoo walkable for us that day. Usually I would recommend a few days/trips to see everything though. The tram is worth riding, especially in the middle or at the end of your trip when you may wish to sit and relax for a bit. The staff is always friendly. And Christmas lights are better than any other zoo we have been to. On a hot day, make sure to take your kids to the splash pads. They help cool you down for the rest of your trip and the one in the middle of the zoo has a fun cave. Our family highly recommends the Phoenix Zoo!

First time. Very nice. Busy, but the parking staff and ticket people were well organized and we got in quickly. 3-year-old loved it, so we'll be back.

  • 4/5 John S. 2 years ago on Google
A lot of beautiful animals. Some exhibits are beautiful, but many are old and show the older view of the animals as objects of marvel as opposed to education. Much of the signage follows the same formula. The directional signage could use some updating as well. Currently, part of the parking lot is being repaved, do parking spaces are limited with little shade.

  • 5/5 Coree C. 2 years ago on Google
Such a gorgeous morning at the Phoenix zoo! Mornings are nice because all the animals were being fed and we got to see most out and about. The one thing we missed was the lion… But we sure heard it! We took a wrong turn and went up to see the bighorn sheep area and we heard the lions roar from up there! Wish we’d been there to see it in person. My advice is to get there when they’re feeding the animals in the morning

  • 5/5 Katherine P. 2 years ago on Google
Had a great day at the zoo with a dear friend, it was raining a little bit, so most animals were bedded down. The parking lot is being repaved so it had limited parking, but still worth every minute of the day.

Went for the day with my 5 year old son. It was a good day. Friendly staff. Very clean facility throughout. Only thing we couldn’t find was the elephant in his/her area? Maybe he was sleeping. Next time I’m renting the rideable animal to get around the property. Also, bringing some binoculars next time as well. Some of the animal enclosures are very big and the animals are small by comparison or very far away.

We like to come to the Phoenix zoo. We have been coming for years. The animal exhibits are a little more spread out than some other zoos I have been to which makes for more walking but the exhibits are very well done. We just did the Phoenix zoo Christmas lights and it was very well done. I would say it is pricey for our whole family though so it is probable that we will enjoy our one time doing it and not go again.

We went to the Phoenix Zoo for their yearly “Zoo Lights” display and we were not disappointed!! The lights and the light show on the lake were pretty amazing! We enjoyed all of the lanterns depicting wildlife and flowers, cacti, insects, etc. We noticed that there were plenty of food stands selling snacks and drinks. The zoo was very busy, and we had to park a little bit far away from the entrance, but it seemed that inside the zoo, it wasn’t too crowded. There were camel rides and horseback rides for the kids, too. We walked around for about 2 hours, but the entire display could probably be seen in an hour or 90 minutes, if you feel hurried for some reason. I would recommend taking the entire family and taking your time. It is a unique experience, and very much worth the $20 entrance fee, which includes parking.

Great place for a walk and the occasional wild animal sighting. Hadn't been, in a little over 10 years. The improvements, since last I went, were very impressive. The carousel was our favorite. The size and variety of animals available was very unique.

We had been to the zoolights festival and it was pretty fun. It was mostly trees decorated in lights, and animals in light structures. I think they had removed the original animals to another place. Main entrance ticket was $20/person. There was camel rides available for $7/person. For food: there were some burgers, kettle corn, hot cocoa with marshmallow n whipped cream, hot coffees, beer available. If you have a free night available, would definitely recommend this place.

  • 5/5 Jason I. 2 years ago on Google
I took my 8 year old son here for zoo lights the cost was 25 dollars per adult of purchased online he really enjoyed it, they have a camel ride he loved the displays look very good. FYI not all of the zoo is open for this event probably less than half and due to it being at night the animals mostly are hiding or asleep, but it’s still a fun experience.

  • 4/5 Jamie D. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty pricey for a zoo that most of the area is still under construction. $30 per person. Overall it's still pretty nice. How can zoo go won't right?

  • 4/5 James W. 2 years ago on Google
This was a good place to spend the day with the children. The animals were not extremely active, but they were not hiding either. I wish they still had paper maps because the map on the phone is too small to use easily.

Took my granddaughter and she had a blast. The ridables are a cool idea but guest need better training before they get them. Walking guests don't Need to get run over. Small areas they are not allowed but they still go. Walking children can't see because of them going up to windows.

We visited the Phoenix Zoo for the annual Zoolights! While you don't get to see any animals, the lights are very festive and quite the spectacle. There was a wonderful sound and synchronized light show over the water and a big university marching band rounded out the evening!

A delightful zoo, although a bit under construction when I went with my family. There are lots of bathrooms, rideables, and a diverse set of animals to see. The zoo was well maintained and the animals seemed well cared for. Nice zoo.

I love this zoo! The animals are very well cared for, tons of educational programs. Very happy to have an annual membership, knowing it’s helping to support the zoo’s conservation efforts. ZooLights is pretty fun as well.

I took my dad for ZooLights and we had an INCREDIBLE time! It was my first time to this zoo and I had no idea how big it was and the large variety of lights they had! We started pulling up to the parking area about 30 minutes after opening and all the signs said the main parking lot was full so we parked in the overflow parking. I was extremely disappointed to find out there was plenty of parking in the main lot. But it was not too far away of a walk. However, it did seem inaccurate. The lights were so neat! We also saw some of the real life animals like rhino, eagle, etc. There was a light show in the central area that was orchestrated nicely. I had read prior to getting tickets that the music was not consistently working the night before. While I was there, I noticed it was not 100% but still good enough to feel the Christmas spirit while being there. I would definitely recommend ZooLights! Super fun and interactive activity!

  • 5/5 Chelsea R. 2 years ago on Google
We love the zoo for a fun get away with the kids and we are so glad they finally opened up the petting zoo area again! It's a pretty big zoo with lots of walking so your littles will be tired by the end so bring a stroller for those that can't make it the whole way. Also be aware that any of the extra things like riding the camel, feeding the giraffes, and the manta ray experience costs extra. You can bring your own food inside which can help save a little money.

  • 4/5 Tricia B. 2 years ago on Google
The animals were well taken care of. The temps for the day were in the low 70's, so many animals were a bit more active. I enjoyed experiencing this zoo as it was like no other that I had been to before.

Great experience all around. We are zoo members at an out of state zoo and they give 50% off tickets if you show your zoo pass and the zoo is on the reciprocal list. Enclosures are top notch. Lots of shaded areas to relax. Clever live animal show. Must visit.

  • 5/5 Jerry L. 1 year ago on Google
Very fun! Go as early as you can. The heat will cause the animals to hide if you go to late. Also plan for at least 2 hours if it's your first time. Very big zoo. They have a splash pad. On hot days you can run through the water area when you arrive and be dry in 20-30 mins.

  • 4/5 Aimee M. 1 year ago on Google
Nice place to spend a half day or longer. Super cool monkey exhibit similar to a traditional butterfly or bird enclosure at other zoos. The dinosaurs in the desert exhibit was a nice addition, so glad it's included in ticket price. Signage could be better. The restroom were not well marked. The online map was hard to navigate and dated.

  • 5/5 Ashley F. 10 months ago on Google
Had a great time at the zoo! Exhibits were very well maintained and spacious enough for the animals. Even though that meant we didn’t see all the animals, I was happy to know the animals can have privacy when they want it. Many of the animals that were visible were VERY visible which was amazing. The only sad part was that we couldn’t go to the monkey exhibit because the monkeys weren’t out, but again— love the animal welfare of giving them the choice!

Always clean, staff is always wonderful, and the membership is totally worth it. With the membership you can get in at 8 a.m. instead of the regular opening time of 9 a.m. which makes all the difference on hot weekends. Not to mention you're seeing all the animals first thing without loud crowds. It's truly magical!

  • 5/5 Brittany R. 9 months ago on Google
Let's just start off by saying this is the best zoo I've ever been too. Make sure to go from 7am-9am as it gets really hot unless you can handle the heat. All animal habitats are well taken care of. The zoo did not have a smell like other zoos that I've been too. My toddlers had a blast watching the elephant, bear and monkeys I also love how they have splash pads around the zoo to help cool you off. The ice cave was our favorite. I absolutely loved watching the elephant and best of all the elephant was a rescue. Also, off topic but the male turtle is 500 pounds. They also have strollers that you can rent. We rented a double stroller for $15 and got $2 back when we returned it. Best thing ever. They also offer law enforcement discounts and other discounts make sure to ask the cashier. For two adults tickets we spent around $70. Children 3 and under are free entry.

I have been attending this zoo since 6 years old and it never gets old. Every year this zoo has expanded with family attractions and phenomenal habitats for all the beautiful residents. Love and care has gone into this zoo by the whole local and animal loving community. This year to my surprise the dinosaur exhibit was 90% completed and best of all it was free included with general admission. My kids loved the walk through the desert hill that is accommodating this awesome exhibit, it has been landscaped with many of desert flora and fauna which makes it feel like more of a lush jungle. Excellent job by the developers of the huge pond on the center of the zoo along with the splash pad for the kids right next to it. The addition of the splash pad is a great addition to the Phoenix Zoo since spring and summer time can get in the 100°+. I was pleased to see many snack bars throughout the grounds in case people need a cold or hot beverage while also grabbing a light snack or food like hot dogs and burgers. I was very pleased with this visit in 2023 during the spring the weather was perfect and the attractions never disappoint the family. Thank you all at the Phoenix Zoo!

Amazing place to visit, they are doing their best to help with animal conservation by not printing out maps eliminating paper waste (QR codes provided along with billboard maps) or the use of single plastic bags they also have recycle bins within the zoo grounds, they have several water fountains and refillable water stations, plenty of shade and attractions to keep you busy Merry-Go-Round, Camel Rides, Stingray bay where you can interact with Stingrays, also have a great tour provided from staff which does require purchase but is great. They have splash pads for children which is very popular during summer, if your looking for food they have a few food stations scattered around the zoo the main food location is called the Savanna Grill which serves tasty food and snacks. Overall the zoo is a greag place to spend your day and don't forget to visit the Zoo Gift Shop on your way out the staff there will hell provide you with choosing the best items to take home and cherish the memories.

  • 3/5 Natek 9 months ago on Google
It was okay. I do believe it is overpriced as most of the animals couldn't be seen. We only really got to see the giraffes, Komodo dragons, spider monkeys, and orangutans and the best animal interaction I had was with a duck lol. I understand it's hot which is probably why most of the animals weren't visible but the rates should be cheaper during the summer. The margaritas and popcorn were good.

  • 3/5 Dasaya C. 9 months ago on Google
Was sort of disappointed in this zoo. I now know I'm spoiled by my zoo at home. There was construction going on in parts of the zoo, and some exhibits closed, which weren't noted on the website. The zoo is small. However, the camel rides were cool. I enjoyed seeing more animals up close. The walk- through exhibit with the tree monkeys was also nice--my kid really enjoyed that, along with the splash pads. They offer a student discount with ID.

Fun place to visit. The staff were very accommodating as we needed a small tour bus for an elderly companion. There was a lot of remodeling going on so we were not able to have the full zoo experience.

When people tell you not to go in the summer, you might have to ignore them. We had an amazingly personalized experience! Sure, it was hot, and we were dripping with sweat, but we were able to see every animal except 1 in every open exhibit in the zoo. We had personalized attention from the presentations, and made friends with everyone who worked in the park! With enough cool water (and making sure to get there as soon as the park opened), we were able to enjoy everything and leave with a good experience and good memories, despite the heat. So if you can handle the heat, come visit the zoo in the summer months! It is worth it!

We have had a membership here for the past three years. We love to get up early and fast walk the zoo path; then slow down and enjoy the animals. I LOVE that they let you bring in your own food - especially if you have dietary restrictions, this is a huge help. There are many spots to picnic, plus a coffee shop for an afternoon energy boost. We loved the dinosaur trail (gone now) but was super fun to walk and hear the growls lol. As a local, we love our zoo!

There are all sorts of fun desert animals at the Phoenix zoo! My favorite was the desert tortoise. They were walking all over and eating and drinking water. The Africa exhibits are moving around right now and some of it isn’t quite done yet. The fan misters throughout the paths help when it’s hot outside.

Hands down the BEST zoo I've been too! There's sooo much to do! The zoo itself is spacious and you can tell workers take pride of their work. All the animals were visible during our visit and their enclosure made it easy to access them but still built so they are unbothered. Highlight was the walking monkey enclosure. The staff was very informative and willing to educate people.

I love the babies... It was so sad today at the zoo. Everyone of those animals are lonely. Literally a hundred people around and they are lonely. There was not one zookeeper anywhere. The animals were completely alone and had nothing except the lookers that didn't even have anything to say to them. There was nothing for them to play with no one to talk to, have no kind of existence except literally being on display. It was so boring because the animals didn't want to do anything because they were sad. Where's the zookeepers? Why is there no entertainment for these animal, but I'll tell you what, I got a beer and there was food and the gift shop was full. So what are we paying for? To let innocent animals be alone while we walk around and look at them do nothing! But you can enjoy our food and our drinks and eventually get in the bathroom.

Hadn't been to the Phoenix Zoo in years, so I attended the Roars and Pours happy hour on 11/2 for ages 21+. $10 admission. They had food, wine, beer, music, entertainment, yard games and a preview of the Zoolights! Definitely a fun evening and I already put this event on my calendar for next year! I will have to go back and visit the animals in the near future.

This is a fantastic zoo, except for the prices! Everything on top of admission is very expensive. I feel like most (not all) extras should be included with your admission for what you pay to get in. That being said, I do get the yearly membership and for my family, it is worth it. My only complaint again is that, with having the membership, I feel more should be included than what is. The animals have nice and clean enclosures and there's a good variety of animals to see. The zoo is absolutely beautiful. Staff is always friendly. They have added many new exhibits throughout the years and the zoo just keeps expanding, which is great!

this is just around so long that it feels good going every time. See new things, new designs prices Get a little expensive and don't like the fact that everything closes before I leave the park. If I'm still in there, you should still be open to serving me something to eat or drink until everyone is gone home. Other than that, it is a great place to go. And a great place to take the kids. Have a nice new year, and may this one be better than the last.

I went to the Phoenix Zoo with my wife and daughter to see the Zoo lights for the holiday season. This is my second year going to this event. It’s alway a great time and puts us into the holiday mood. Didn’t see much animals because how dark it was. That’s to be expected. Lights were beautiful to say the least. Make sure you get some hot cocoa when you are there.

Zoolights is one of our favorite Holiday traditions!! Every year the light show and displays are different, we look forward to seeing what creative light displays will come next year! Some pointers, buy tickets in advance online, go mid week, between 8pm - 10:30 there is less of a crowd than arriving between 5:30 - 7:00.

A bit pricey for what they offer. $40 for adults $30 for children 3 and up. Anything you want to do inside cost extra. Between 5-10 dollar per person. The tram ride was a waste of money. They don’t stop at all to see the animals. Most animals were kinda far, so not able to see them. I’ve been to other zoos that were much better. The grounds around the zoo are nice. Several ponds. Go when it first opens or you will have to walk a lot as the other parking is across the ponds.
