Have always loved Potawatomi Zoo. Got there as soon as the zoo opened. Today was in the too cool range so some of the animals and birds were kept in, away from the outdoors and people. Would like to go back when warmer. They are also updating some of the exhibits for new animals. Highly recommend especially if you have children. Teach them the value of conservation.

We visit a lot of zoo's and had a great time at this one. It is small and we only spent about an hour and a half there, but there were animals that I had never seen at another zoo. If you have kids, there is a train, carousel and petting zoo as well! If this review has helped, please give it a thumbs up!

All of the staff I came in contact with were friendly and knowledgeable. There were no waits on anything, despite visiting on a Friday. We saw alpacas, goats, donkeys, monkeys, fish, otters, emu, buffalo, flamingos, zebras, a leopard and a snow leopard. There were quite a few empty exhibits however, including the lion which we were kinda bummed about. Train ride tickets were $3 per person and the carousel was also $3 per person. The kids had fun!

This place is a real gem in the Michiana area!! The two main features of this fabulous zoo has to be the giraffe and lion attractions!! The family loved feeding the giraffes. As for the lions, they are still in quarantine as of this review but they look very majestic behind that glass!! The lion attraction is expected to be open in a couple of months. We will definitely go back to check that out!!! This zoo is an awesome place to take the family for a fun filled afternoon πŸ˜€!!

It was a great zoo experience. The only problem was the crazy lines for the Cafe and gift shop . Even though there were signs displayed that said masks were required and social distancing (indoors), it was packed and rules didn't appear to be enforced. Workers seemed to be really understaffed.... maybe because it was the first gorgeous weekend... but they were all very courteous! The zoo is beautiful and the planned renovations will make it even better. Lots of places to stop and enjoy the scenery and fairly well shaded. Rental prices for carts and strollers and electric wheelchairs were really affordable and regular wheelchairs were offered for free. Cafe prices were decent and the food was pretty good. The burgers are huge, the grilled chicken sandwich was juicy, and they had great fries. Bathrooms were clean. Train ride was nice....though short. But it was only $3 (and they offered discount tickets for the carousel and train when bought in bulk). The kids loved it....and so did the adults!

Moved to South Bend almost 2 years ago and never checked this place out. I'm glad I finally did because it is a cute, well maintained, and fun little zoo. My son was so excited from seeing all the animals he conked out 2/3 of the way through. It was a hot day, but the animals were not in distress at all. All the signs by each of the habitats were very nice and informative. The gift shop was cute and had some nice items. Love my red panda shirt. The employees were wonderful too. We will be back again soon.

I have been coming to this zoo my entire life and the progress and improvements they have made are staggering. So great to see. They've managed to make it feel clean and bright (except for a couple of older buildings). It feels cohesive and the animals now seem well cared for compared to years ago. The giraffes and the ability to feed is a great offering. Every interaction we had with staff was warm and friendly. I do wish it was possible to keep the flamingo windows cleaner with the new babies, but their area is clean and well maintained, and that's much more important. Plenty to do if you have kids... with animal feedings, riding the train, the carousel, etc.

We went to Potawatomi Zoo for the first time on Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed the experience. We got a lot of great pictures even though it was very hot, there was enough shade in the enclosures for the animals to be out for me to capture on my phone. We are seniors, so we got in for less.

Quiet, mid-sized zoo. Good for a pleasant afternoon. We had a great time! Options for general admission, carousel, and train ride. Smaller and less busy than Fort Wayne, but still enjoyable.

Very nice zoo. Clean, shaded, nice walkway. They have a train and carousel. The cage areas seem to be comfortable for the animals. We were able to feed some of the animals. The new giraffe area wasn't open yet, but it sure looked very nice. I would like to return once the new exhibit's are open. Also had a nice giftshop.

Alright, let's talk about this amazing wedding I shot at Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend. This place is seriously cool for a wedding venue – it's not your typical, run-of-the-mill spot. Picture this: you're getting married with the coolest backdrop of animals and nature. It's like every photo has this extra layer of awesome because, hey, you might just have a peacock or two strutting in the background. The scenes around the zoo are super diverse, giving us photographers a blast capturing moments that are a bit out-of-the-box. The vibe for the couple and their guests? Super laid-back and fun. Everyone was having a great time, and the unique setting just made the day even more memorable. It's one thing to tie the knot, but doing it at a zoo? That's a story to tell for years. Big shoutout to the staff at Potawatomi Zoo. They were on their game, making sure everything rolled out smoothly. It was a win for the couple, their guests, and definitely a win for us capturing the day. For anyone hunting for a venue that's fun, unique, and still nails that professional vibe, Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend is a spot you've gotta check out. Can't wait to head back there for the next wild wedding adventure! Westley Leon Studios Photography, Videography, Photo Booth

This quaint zoo has so much to offer. Along with the animal exhibits there is a carousel ride and a train ride and a petting zoo area. The animals seem well adapted to their very well thought out exhibits. This zoo is clean and the faculty very knowledgeable and friendly. I will make multiple visits to this zoo.

Yeah I'm very fond of zoos and this one in particular a lot of it has to do because it's close but they have a nice variety of animals everything looks like it's taken care of very well. it's clean. Take a bunch of kids had a lot of fun. They have a carousel and a train. They have a meat and amazing giraffe display the end of drafts are just beautiful We actually didn't see the whole zoo in one day because the kids were getting tired so we'll come back I went ahead and got a season pass

Went with my daughters school for a field trip. That had 22 different schools here this day but that was no problem. There were no lines or crowds at any exhibit people were spread out throughout the zoo where you could walk the whole thing with ease and see every animal. Took my daughter and about 1-1.5 hours to walk around to every exhibit. There is a brand new giraffe exhibit and it’s super big and nice and inside their habitat they have 1 crane, 2 zebras, and 2 ostriches. You can even pay cash to feed the giraffes large leaves of lettuce. My favorite animal was the Sand Cats inside the learning center building. They look like small house kittens that’s aren’t fully grown yet but this is their normal size. They have adorable faces and pretty stopped coat and all are same color. Their teeth are much longer and bigger than a house kitten that is for sure! My daughter had a great day and so did I!

Only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the lack of response by customer service. We asked about reciprocal benefits a soon as we arrived, because online said we had to buy online. Couldn't reach anyone by phone. At the gate at the zoo they said we had to call in to get the reciprocal benefits from the zoo program.. sounds like they just don't want to honor it. Lack of response. The zoo itself is smaller, but well maintained. There are some really neat animals here! A great park right outside the gates. Free parking. Update: To owner response. I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll return. We had our card present at the gate when we arrived. So we had everything we needed to indicate our membership. She told us no. We had to call, and you couldn't get through to anyone? Your customer service office was completely closed in the learning building. So as much as I would love to support your zoo, your customer response makes it more difficult.

Nice and maintained zoo. The animals are cared for well. Some of the exhibits are very small especially the Lion exhibit. The restrooms are very clean and stocked. The zoo is small and easy to navigate. It's not overwhelming. Giraffe exhibit coming soon. I love the donkeys. Freaking cute! I would like to see the enclosures expanded especially the Lion. He's been in that small enclosure for quite a while.

I recently visited the zoo with my family to witness the enchanting 'Gift of Light' event, and it was truly captivating. I highly recommend this experience to others. While we couldn't explore all the animals this time, I am looking forward to a morning visit for a comprehensive encounter with the amazing variety of species the zoo offers.

Always a good time! It's a pretty small zoo and the signage is not very good but it's a fun 2 hours if you take your time. I like that they are working hard to make improvements in recent years. You can see enrichment items in the enclosures and the newer enclosures especially are nice. Some of the animals there are almost as old as I am so I feel really nostalgic about the whole place.

Despite the regulations my wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. This zoo is a fun little place with some beautiful animals, but it is definitely more suitable for kids to visit. Being that its smaller it is definitely not an all day activity as a date night. All in all worth the price of admission.

Across my road trips, we always visit a lot of zoos. This was probably my least favorite. The layout of the zoo is a little confusing and it's easy to miss things. Maps were out of date because they're making updates. A lot of animals couldn't be seen too. Unfortunately 100% of customers entered the zoo with a mask on and only 25% kept it on after walking through the entrance. So if you wish to be safe, don't come here right now. A lot of people didn't care about social distancing.

This zoo is SO different with all of the remodels. We were there on a cool day with my grandbaby. All of the animals were active and out. Sad that the chimps are gone, but anxious to see what is coming to that exhibit. The zoo was clean and they were decorating for fhe Christmas lights.

Animals are active, happy and healthy! Very beautiful and clean zoo that always seems to be getting bigger and better. Alot of information about each animal which is a good learning experience for the kids while enjoying the sights. Theyre also adding more animals soon. Can't wait to go back well worth it!!!

Photos are from 2020 Brew at the Zoo, always a good time. Plenty of interesting food vendors at the 2021 event (maybe a few more drink vendors would've cut down on lines) and super friendly and helpful staff and the train conductor is hilarious too. Worth it for the otters, snow leopard, and monkeys alone!

Lived in Indiana basically my whole life and never knew there was a zoo in South Bend. We absolutely loved it. Great size for little ones with plenty to see and do. We just happened to go on a day when all the little snack shops were not open and due to come construction, the train you can ride was also closed. A little bit of a bummer. But we hope to return when it's complete and re-experience it for 5 stars!

It's a small but cute zoo, a great place for families and kids. They are working on expanding their enclosures and adding some new animals, so that'll be a nice upgrade. The one thing I don't like about zoos is when the enclosures are too small. There seemed to be a couple here where I was thinking that the animals don't have that much space to roam, but I understand that most of the zoo animals are there because they wouldn't survive in the wild anymore. Overall, this place has a good variety of different species you can go look at and learn more about, or even feed.

I visited Potawatomi Zoo on July 8, 2023 with my daughter, son-in-law, 4 grandchildren, and my son. It was a great visit to see all the animals we would not normally see. My youngest granddaughter was so excited to see the leopard. She was kicking her feet and clapping her hands. The carousel was awesome. A great addition to the Zoo. Thank you South Bend, Indiana for an amazing Zoo!! 😊

First time there today with my family and it was a really nice time.. the staff was super friendly, they didn't seam like they didn't get annoyed with families that had kids and were being loud or trying to pet the animals. All the animals were beautiful! And they had fair prices. The merch was a little much but thats to be expected..Im used to the zoo in Chicago with a lot more variety but for what it was, it still was a good time and we had a lot of fun. Took us about 5 hours of taking our time and just walking through, I would definitely go again and would definitely recommend.

We have not been to the Potawatomi Zoo during the day but we will be going back for sure. We decided the weekend before Christmas to go find some good Christmas lights and the Zoo popped up on Google so that is where we went. Luckily the weather was on our side and it was not freezing and our trip here was awesome! We paid about $50 for 4 of us to get in and that came with 4 tickets for hot chocolate and light up snowflake head bands, also we paid a little extra for train tickets. The lights were great and we got to see some of the animals and Mr. and Mrs. Cluase. The best part for me, other than the wine and adult beverage that they sold, was that the staff were extremely helpful and so enthusiastic. Everything about our trip to the zoo during Christmas gets me excited about taking my kids back when it warms up again in the spring or summer.

I really enjoyed our day at Potawatomi Zoo, it wasn't over crowded so we could enjoy watching the animals. The animals they have are different from others I've been to, so that was nice. A fun place to go.

Great little zoo. Has more than I expected. Carousel and train plus lots of information about the animals. Highly recommend. It is especially good for younger children because they can be overwhelmed in a large zoo. This had a great variety of animal species and experiences. Price was reasonable too.

Top notch. I love the zoo. Potawatomi offers exotic animals from far and near. Family favorite. Love from all ages. Bring a picnic and spend the day out

  • 3/5 Sara B. 3 years ago on Google
Well, the zoo has changed alot since I've last been, and even more so now that covid took over. The price of admission is still fairly decent but the attractions are lacking at best. No camels, bears, kangaroos, zebras or koi fish. No petting zoo, pony rides or feeding the fish, but to compensate for the lack of funds coming into the zoo, you can now consume beverages from the winery, huh, who knew. My one request, bring back the penguins.

I always have a nice time when I go, but the exhibits are never great, and sometimes it just seems sad. I don't agree with the price based on what animals are there to be offered. I do love the additional activities like the Christmas Zoo Lights.

The zoo is fantastic, I happened to go at feeding time for some of the animals (2-3 is when I went) and got to see the alligators eating their lunch! Don't forget to check out the learning center right by the entrance. I totally missed out on this building because I thought it was just bathrooms. They have all kinds of cool exhibits in there with insects, amphibians, reptiles, and some super cute monkeys and cats amongst other things. All in all its a great zoo for the price. Oh and bring quarters to feed the farm animals. ☺️

Such an amazing time! Highly recommend getting the seasonal pass, it’s so worth it and a great price. We have a blast every year and end up going multiple times. It’s always clean and having cute events going on! Also right next to a huge park, makes it a fun day for the kids.

This is a small zoo, but a wonderful place to spend some weekend evenings with the family. Especially kids will love this place. The toy train inside the zoo is a pleasant surprise. Some animals were missing when we visited. The price is a little high. Overall, I liked the place.

Absolutely adore this zooβ€” it’s conveniently sized to a point where you’re not missing a single exhibit, the staff are welcoming, and the animals all seem very content! Beth and the younger gentleman that work the giraffe exhibit are very kind, informative, and made the experience much more engaging and fun! 10/10 place!

Very nice zoo and well kept/maintained. Almost all the animals were out and available for viewing. Very good experience with feeding the giraffes. Provides discounts for active duty military and veterans.

Always a fun day at the zoo. The exhibits are very clean, animals were out and active. The giraffe feeding was well worth the cost and the keepers are friendly and knowledgeable.

Great to see the πŸ¦’ Giraffes are not as shy this year and the enclosure is nice and the lion enclosure is nice they have lots of room to run around looking forward to the Black Bear exhibit in the future we have such a nice family zoo I love the fact it is growing and enjoy seeing the animals being so well cared for. Thank You Potawatomi Zoo for all the great people you have working to make the zoo a special place for our community πŸ€—

This place is great, it is free to get in with a zoo membership. The animals were so awesome here I wanted to jump in the exhibits. Good thing the intrusive thoughts didn’t win!!! πŸ˜„

πŸ‘ South Bends' best park beside the new Howard Park, which ranks no.2 due to its eradication of all the trees. Potawatomi, named after the Native American people that once lived there, is full of tall old-growth trees, so shade is easy to find, even for parking spots. Four main features make this par...

πŸ‘ If you're looking for a short activity to do in South Bend at night, I recommend this. The light displays are pretty, and the changing colors are oddly calming. The 5 structures each have interesting backstories you can read on the signs, and the whole walk is only a few tenths of a mile. Conveni...
