I've been to quite a few zoos in my travels, and Audubon Zoo stands out as one of the best. I was thoroughly impressed-- beautiful grounds and displays, a wide range of animals and habitats, friendly and informative staff members, and a good selection of visitor amenities. Each major section of the zoo makes you feel as if you were transported to a far flung destination where you can see animals in their natural habitats. Simply amazing! We can't wait for our next visit here!

I don't know where to begin. My wife and I have been to many bigger zoos in the country like the ones in San Diego, Columbus, Smithsonian National Zoo etc... We were left in awe of the Audubon Zoo and our experience here was the best one we've ever had! We went on a Monday and the zoo had little to almost no crowds. There were times where we sat viewing an enclosure for 30+ minutes until we saw someone else. We witness unique, funny and playful behavior from several of the animals including Elephants, Lions and Jaguars. The enclosures were very well maintained and some of the viewing areas were practically with the animals themselves. The vast majority of the animals were very active and it was obvious to us that they are very well taken care of. We can't stop talking about our experience to our friends and family and we hope to come back one day!

Amazing zoo! Go right when it opens to see all the animals active! We have seen a lot of zoos and am so glad that we added this onto the trip. Our favorite was the orangutan babies!!!! Be aware that there is only food at the mail cafe. Just pack a lunch and water and you are fine.

One of the best zoos I've ever visited! There are a lot of animals not typically seen in zoos, as well as the usual ones. They also have a swamp area with alligators and animals/fish native to Louisiana swamps. Many of the exhibits have areas of swap that seem to be easily accessed by small children, so I'd be cautious there. But, it's also part of what made it such a wonderful experience. The landscaping and trees there are stunning. There's a bird area where you can walk through with the birds all around. It was beautiful too. The orangutans were so much fun to watch! There's a large habitat for them with lots of toys and things for them to interact with. It's a must see destination when visiting New Orleans.

Great size, spent 3 hours and didn't get to see it all. Very good well shaded play spots for the kids placed throughout the zoo. Great opportunities to take a break and catch some breath; it's very convenient. All concession stands throughout the park were closed, so get something at a shop inside even though it is pricey. All in all it is worth the price and a great location to visit whether on vacation or just passing through.

They do not have paper maps of the park. You have to use a QR code which will drain your battery faster. No set charging stations if your phone died. Open 10 - 5 all year, hours do not extend in summer. In 5-1/2 hours I saw about 1/2 of the species on the 58 acres. I will definitely go back to finish the zoo.

This place is not "just another zoo" and it's definitely worth a visit! I've never been as up close and personal with the animals before and the spacious enclosures are charmingly decorated - particularly in the Louisiana Swamp area. There are also a few places for children to get their wiggles out - multiple play structures, a hill to roll down on, and a water area to wade in. In addition to the animals, there are also numerous sculptures to enjoy. Overall it was just a really great experience.

First time visitors and it was worth it. 5 tickets: 2 kids - 3 adults was $172. We waited 2 minutes to get in, you want to get there early because there is A LOT of ground to cover. Pack a picnic, there are so many places to stop and relax. It's like a history museum as well, trees are beautiful and the animal exhibits are good. The only section I was not thrilled with was Asia, they need to better those exhibits. I felt sad for the baby elephant by itself. I highly recommend visiting this zoo and just plan a day out there.

This has always been one of my favorite zoos! They have wonderful multitude of exhibits where you can see the animals at a fairly close distance, plenty of helpful zoo staff to show/teach about the animals, and its large enough that it'll take a bit of time to get through, if you're looking for an all-day thing with the kiddos. There's a number of shady playgrounds and water features, too! It's also beautiful, to boot!

Awesome time! My wife and I went on a Saturday afternoon. We booked our time slot for 1:30. The zoo closes at 5. Ample parking was available. No charge for parking. Tickets were $25/person. My wife and I love zoos so we have been to many around the country. We really enjoyed our time at this zoo. We live in Uptown and routinely run and bike around Audubon park. Audubon park is gorgeous including the area with the zoo. The zoo had a few animal exhibits that really allowed us to feel like we were extra close to some of the animals. Some animals had babies which were adorable! Currently during COVID, the zoo didn’t have any shows going to prevent gatherings. We saw several people walking around without masks on though they are required. With that said, it’s really easy to social distance so it seems like a really safe place for something to do during COVID. I would highly recommend the zoo!

Loved this zoo. We were visiting from Idaho and really enjoyed this zoo experience- EXCEPT-- No water available. Take your water bottles with you. The variety of animals and where they were located was great to make a big circle and see everything. It's A BIG ZOO so have good walking shoes!

Huge zoo, great variety of animals. Take a map! Extremely clean and there's plenty of space to walk around even when it's crowded. Lots of opportunities to see animals even if they're "hiding" or tucked away in their enclosures. Would totally recommend, takes about 3 hours to see a majority of stuff.

Beautiful zoo! A little more crowded than expected during a pandemic and with having to reserve times so it didn't feel very safe.

I love this zoo but not during COVID-19! It was overcrowded with no social distancing and little use of masks. The staff were not enforcing any of the “rules”. Please consider creating a required path to travel around the zoo with 6 ft markings.

Spent a few hours walking around and had a great time. Outside food and drinks are allowed. The baby orangutan was adorable! My favorite part was finding some shade in the seal’s theater and watching them preform. Most of the animals were out and the zoo keepers were also actively feeding them. If it’s lightning outside, most of the animals are brought in; and the swamp area wasn’t much to see since it’s being renovated.

We came here for my daughter & my husband Birthday party.. Everyone had fun and the people that work here were very knowledgeable of all the animals and their habitat, food, behavior and everything.!! We loved it and even though it's not as big as other Zoo's, it was still a beautiful place to visit and enjoy.!! We definitely recommend you guys to come and it takes about 3hrs maybe 4hrs to really enjoy the Zoo and all that it has to offer!! Can't wait for the Lion exhibit to come soon that will be a blast!! Don't forget to get there by 11am so you can see the feeding otters getting some yummy delights!! We all love them cuties.!! The petting zoo was wonderful and we all enjoyed that as well.. The animals here are so majestic and beautiful that we cannot wait to come back soon!!!

New Orleans has one of the most beautiful zoos I’ve ever been to! It is definitely a MUST with the kids. You could even fly solo! If you want to just get out and get some exercise and see some of nature’s beauty

I highly recommend buying your tickets in advance so you can just scan your tickets and go. Very beautiful zoo, saw no trash on the ground. All the animals look well kept. They even have a part of the Zoo called Cool Zoo, that has water activities you can play in. It was very hot however, I'd recommend getting a fan and stocking up on water. Of course everything food and drink wise was expensive, but that's to be expected. Be prepared to walk long distances, so wear good support shoes. Loved it.

What a fun zoo!! If you are in New Orleans you have to come visit this zoo! I just went and it was extremely hot however it was 100% worth it to see all the animals! It is a really good size zoo and I'm pretty certain I didn't even see everything. I absolutely loved it here!!

We walked the entire zoo in a day! Very doable. Animals were lively. One weird thing is that there are two buildings on the other end of the zoo, kind of out of place (the reptiles and birds exhibits).

Visited on a Friday morning and not crowded at all. The entrance to the zoo was very nice. The employees were very nice and helpful. There weren't many animals to see. The ones that we did see were mostly tucked away. They had canned Gatorade, and I had never seen that before, lol. We bought the combo pass for $50 with the aquarium. The zoo wasn't worth the money, the Aquarium was.

Lots of cool animals. The enclosures were mostly large and well featured compared to some other zoos. The map and layout were a little bit confusing, but we managed. I think we spent 3 or more hours there but didn't get to see everything before they closed, so keep that in mind when you are planning!

Had a blast at this zoo! Animals look super happy and well-cared for, which is awesome. They've got a whole bunch of different critters, so there's lots to see. The place is a bit small, but you'll easily spend a few hours exploring. Plus, it's really clean everywhere. Definitely worth a visit!

Not many of the animals were out, it was unusually hot for the end of September 23. Also any food or drink was extremely expensive. I expected some higher prices but 5.50 for a can of soda is crazy. I would also have to say this zoo needs some serious upgrades and repairs. On the plus side this zoo is huge, so the entry fee is reasonable considering you could spend the better part of the day there. Staff and keepers were very friendly and nice. I observed several employees cleaning and helping patrons.

I'll always recommend a day at the zoo! Family friendly environment and no two days are the same. We love heading over to the sea lions and bird exhibit to enjoy the open areas. Venture over to the lions and climb the tree of life or roll down monkey hill! There's always fun stuff to do!

The good news is that some part of the zoo is always under construction, so there always seems to be a new (or updated) exhibit. The bad news is that some part of the zoo is always under construction 😐. Lots of exhibits werent available as a result, however, there was still a good bit to see. This time the train ride was super short because of the construction and, unfortunately, it wasn't as much fun as it usually is. We were able to ride as much as we wanted to, which helped I guess, but it only went to a small section of the zoo right near the entrance so it didn't seem worth it. Overall, the zoo needs the updates and repairs that it is doing, but it is still a little frustrating. We are a family of five and I honestly am not sure it's worth $135 🤷🏼‍♀️

A very well organized and beautifully themed zoo. The inhabitants seemed to be well cared for. My person aversion to captive primates aside, the habitats were clean and well suited for the animals. The food available was to be expected. Not bad for a zoo cafe, but I didn't come for the food.

Was very organized under the current circumstances. The only issue was that every now and then spaces got overcrowded. Maybe the staff could remind people to keep the line moving to give everyone a chance to see the exhibits. No social distancing that I could see, but they seemed to be monitoring how many people entered at a time, so overall I would say that helped. Still possible to enjoy. Will visit again, probably after this pandemic.

This Zoo is not too big nor small. You can see the animals near to you. Bird collection is less. The entry fee is expensive around 23$ for adults. No special music at end of the site seeing. You have to learn how SAN DIEGO ZOO is working and adopt their style. The ZOO management introducing LOINS in the new year-2019. We have visited this place as part of 2018 Christmas Holidays to NEW ORLEANS, LA. This is good for One time Visit along with your family. Your Kids may be love this place than you like. This ZOO also offer running Train on rubber wheels to see all places for which they charge 5$. The canteen inside ZOO provides the food which is very expensive. We have took KID Stroller from registration office for which they have charged 13$ with 5$ deposit in CASH and not accepting the Visa/CR Cards which makes me uncomfortable. My recommendation is to go here on early morning, spend 3 hours and visit the Aquarium located at different place - AUDUBON AQUARIUM OF THE AMERICAS, 1 CANAL ST, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70130. Since we have 2 small kids we didn't went to AQUARIUM as we have lost all energy by walking in ZOO.

We visited the zoo on this past Saturday. We are zoo members for almost 10 years now. They now require you to make reservation, which made us think, great crowd control it won't be too crowded. We were wrong, there were lots and lots of people, it was almost over crowded.. What was absolutely aggravating was the staff harassing us about wearing face mask... Now keep in mind we are all outdoors here, as ALL indoor exhibits are closed... When was it made law to where mask outdoors??? This mask thing is going way too far... Its has now become a complete control issue...and you can take your mask off while sitting at a table in a reserved food area, but when you walk away from the table you must mask up again. We are literally in the same outdoor air and area, but no longer sitting at a table. THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!!!! Rethink this Audubon Zoo.

I like the zoo better with limited entry. One of the most serene experiences of my life... Took a 4 year old little boy for his first visit. We had a great time in spite of the limited access to food and a small number of animals not open for viewing. The few staff were great. I called on the way there and the nicest young lady answered the phone. We arrived 20 minutes late but were allowed immediate entry. The landscaping is Beautiful. I'm in love with bamboo and it grows throughout the grounds. We were greeted by flamingos and a gorgeous peacock. The animals look well taken care of. The racoons were so cute. As a non-native, I really appreciate the native animal area. There are hand sanitation stations Everywhere. A++ effort NOLA!

This definitely not the zoo I grew up going to as a little girl. By fair the worse experience of my life. It was my babies 1st time going and I was very disappointed. You could barely see the animals from the over growth. I remember seeing beautiful flowers and greens everywhere its looked sad. I'm praying the over growth I just because of all the rain. I will be giving it another go before school and hopefully the experience is the one I remember. We did get some decent pictures of the animals we did get to see today

I’ve been to the Washington (National) Zoo, the Baltimore Zoo, and the zoo in Chicago. Out of all of these, this zoo is, by far, my favorite. The Louisiana Swamp exhibit makes me incredibly happy. The “set design” (for lack of better terms) is masterful and immersive. The variety of different species is plentiful and the layout is not confusing and backtracking is not necessary. I wish my son was younger so that we could take advantage of the “Cool Zoo” area, which looks like lots of fun for the kids!

Amazing zoo, the best I've ever been to. The enclosures are huge and the barriers aren't enough to obstruct view. Definitely worth getting the 3 ticket pack to go to each place. Highly recommend going to this zoo. It's a massive place that will take time to get around so Definitely make sure you take the whole day to check everything out. Will be back again one day!

What a fun zoo. There is a great combination of fun exhibits, beautiful animals and interactive activities. We spent 3 hours amd could have spent at least another. We all thought the enclosures were large and well suited for the animals. They really take good care of these animals and you can tell the caretakers love what they do. On a hot day it would have been more difficult to drag the kids around and paying the 10 per person for the water part seemed steep. But overall one of the best zoos I have been to.

The Audubon zoo is a wonderful place for anyone. Our family has lots of fun. It is pretty big and we brought our stroller for our 3yr old so that worked out. You can bring your own food. So that's nice. Our favorite was the fox and Deers. Oh and God helped us get a parking right up front! So nice, with how insanely busy it was. But even with the crowd it felt nice. The lemonade was so Good. And we got the bubble wand as well.

Had a great time, the zoo is nicely put together with a variety of animals! Large enough to get a great walk in and the kids can see all the inhabitants. The staff was knowledgeable about all the animals and abated every question the kiddos threw out! Fantastic place! Very large facility! You'll get your walking in, but there is just so much to see. Very nicely laid out and the exhibits were very well designed and placed. Many many many different animals there. I really liked the section about the bayou. I love it when zoo's have exhibits about local life and animals, especially in this case where its so unique to the rest of the country. It was amazing to see how well disguised the alligators were there. Many looked fake, or were completely hidden but they weren't!! Very family friendly zoo. Great place to check out!

My teenage son and I just returned from our first trip to New Orleans. One thing I truly wanted to do was visit the zoo! So, our second day there, we hopped on the bus and headed to the zoo. Note - we took the streetcar back and did a little mini food tour through the Garden District. Overall, I am quite impressed with public transportation in NOLA, and the mobile app is awesome! I love this zoo!!!! Yay, so several attractions were closed. And some of the animals were totally MIA. But we still really enjoyed our day here. It's very walkable, and we saw some great animals! And, you know, it's kind of cool to me that I felt like I could have just jumped into several of the animal enclosures. I know, I'm probably a weirdo. Like the sea lions. There was just something cool about thinking I could jump in at any moment and swim with them - not that I would! But it made me feel like I was closer to the experience than being so far removed. That intimacy that you don't get with some zoos. And oh yes, some people WERE actually getting too close to the animals. There was an emu exhibit (I think it was the emus), and this stupid mom let her kids walk right up to the fence and stick their hands in. There was a barrier they just ignored. Her kids were announcing to us that they were sticking their arms in! I wanted to tell them emus like to eat little boys, but that didn't seem right. That is dumb parenting, and that is why most zoos have to make it so you can't even get close - to protect the stupid. Show some respect, people, so you idiots don't ruin it for the rest of us. Anyway, my son and I really enjoyed our time here and all the animals we saw. I would go back in a heartbeat and recommend. Yes, zoos kind of make me sad, but I would also like to think these animals are treated better than those in the wild. Nobody is going to chase them down and eat them, so I guess that's a plus. Maybe it's a little country club for them, even though the one gorilla with his blanket seemed bored out of his mind. But overall, I really do like this zoo, regardless of how you feel about zoos in general.

This is such a great zoo. It is worth it to visit, especially if you go with kids. There are different areas that go from different regions, so you can see diverse animals. The restrooms are pretty clean and spacious, you can find one close to the entrance and another one close to the playground area. The playground has a good space to play for the children. There is shape because of the trees, which is good on a really sunny day.

We get a membership every year. It's definitely worth it if you live close and want to go often. You also get discounts with it in the gift shops and cafes. Parking is free. My kiddos live for the zoo. I love how they improve it pretty often. They have people with educational stuff out as well. The swamp cafe has been my favorite since childhood. Loved the new wall hands on additions to the snake exhibit ! The new bird area is amazing!

This could be a nice zoo. The grounds need a lot of work. Some of the grounds are very pretty but there are weeds coming up on walkways and different attractions all over the zoo. A large percentage of the animal enclosures need a lot of maintenance. Lots of the glass was broken. There were many exhibits closed and missing animals. We saw lots of zoo keepers but only a few actually taking care of animals and only 1 working on the grounds. Most were grouped together just talking. This was a big disappointment. 80$ for 2 adults and 1 kid was not worth the trip.

Zoo itself is great! Cool creatures, but stupid covid-19 had several features closed. Sucks, but still a good place to go.. I do not recommend 90° weather with small children. Which leads me to my only complaint. Most of the concessions were closed. I understand wanting to stick to guidelines and it hasn't been reopened for long, but when even the vending machines are down and you are trying to stay hydrated, they need to be open. I somehow made it through with out meltdowns from my toddlers. 😂😂👏👏👏. This one is cool and I will bring my little ones back.

Excellent zoo!!! I love how it's separated by continent and beautifully decorated. Lots of things for kids! The monkey hill area is the best, kids can roll around on a grassy hill or hike up a stone stream and splash around. That is definitely a cool feature for when they need to burn off energy. The primates were the best!!! The momma and baby were so cute. The petting zoo was fun and they had a hand washing station at the end which was great. Food and drinks are expensive, I would bring your own lunch and snacks.

We love this zoo so much. We know they are trying so hard to keep everyone safe in this weird Covid-19 time. However, we felt so crowded when we were all let in at our ticket time and had to follow the one way paths with everyone. It took about 30 minutes for the crowd to thin out so that we could enjoy it. We will go back, but probably not for awhile.

So much better than the Baton Rouge Zoo, but they have a serious ant problem. There are alot of areas where you cannot standstill for fear of being covered by ants. Even in the ladies restroom they thought I had to pee but I pointed out all the ants crawling everywhere. I think its ridiculous to buy a drink but have to pay 2 to 3 dollars for a straw to go with the cup. Dont understand the point in having to pre pay for tickets because the zoo was packed.

Omg it's a wonderful place for family time but ooooo it's a workout! I should have wore gym clothes and sweated any pounds I needed gone! It's soooo hot! They definitely need more than one lemonade stand unless I overlooked it. Boo in the Zoo is great for kids and the haunted house was a cute touch. Anyway this review is long so see ya later

Ridiculous mask policy. At least 25% of people with no mask or not wearing properly; no one really enforcing mask wearing. Little social distancing. NOT SAFE! Boo at the zoo was not a good idea. Pathways should be one way.

An amazing family experience!! All staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable. All exhibits weren't open, very understandable as we are currently in the midst of a pandemic. If you are handicapped and in a wheelchair I advise you not to go. There are broken pieces of the black top trail. When the front wheels hit it the chair tips forward. There are quite a few inclines which aren't easy when you are alone to climb up. Alot of the animals were not visible because of the long grass in the living area. The restrooms on the walking path were disgusting. Quite a few of the attractions were closed. A waste of money and of my day.

If Audubon does not have the finances, space, or capacity to house animals with adequate space (sea lions, bobcats, leopards, etc) then do not have them. It is unethical and depressing to see such small spaces for animals that clearly need more than what Audubon is providing them.

I’ve been to the zoo many times and we like it a lot but today there was a problem that needs to be addressed. My wife wanted to also go to the aquarium and we were told when buying tickets that the zoo shuttle went to the aquarium. It does not, it takes you to a bus stop on the other side of Audubon Park, the park next to the zoo. There you can take a bus or streetcar to downtown New Orleans where the aquarium is at mikes away. We stayed on the shuttle and returned to the zoo for a refund has we were with our two year old. We continued on to see the zoo as always. We’ve been to the zoo but our daughter has never been and probably won’t go now. Downtown New Orleans is a complete pain to get to by car and almost always requires expensive paid parking. The roads throughout New Orleans are confusing and in poor condition due to frequent flooding. It’s not a place that feels safe for children either. It’s disappointing there is no reliable transportation from the zoo to the aquarium that doesn’t cost an arm and leg. Long ago there was a cruise ship that you could ride to the French Quarter area where the aquarium is. As for the zoo itself the lions are finally here and the zoo was otherwise 5 star. If you are from out of town the zoo is one of the safe places to bring your kids.

Let's make animals domesticated in tiny spaces for our pure enjoyment. As miserable as the animals must feel, walking around this place on any given Summer day is absolutely brutal and extremely uncomfortable, at best.

Great variety of animals, especially for a zoo inside a large city. Unfortunately I just wish it was more in depth and took more time to cover it all. A few hours and that’s it. The sea lion exhibit still feels out of place and small. But a great place to spend a day and great for getting pictures of animals without much obstructions.

  • 2/5 Tiger W. 4 years ago on Google
I'm sure it's a good zoo and as much as I like zoos I wouldn't turn down a chance to go to this zoo. I never made it tbru the doors because the price is way too high. $23 plus tax almost $25 is too expensive. Plus only New Orleans residents get in the aquarium for free and you haw to prove that. It's just a little too much. Please lower the adult fees by few dollars and I'm there.

The zoo itself is really nice, but I was disappointed with the way they handled COVID precautions. Masks were not enforced at all; once people got past the main entrance many took their masks off. Instead of actually enforcing social distancing, they just closed all the exhibits that were indoors. I understand that these are difficult times, but its like they didn't even make much of an effort. It was annoying to pay full price for basically half of the zoo.

  • 5/5 Ethelouise S. 3 years ago on Google
It was better than I remembered...last time I visited the zoo, I was 10! The animals were clean, and appeared well fed! Their Cafe was open, and there were plenty of bathrooms... Loved the little Monkey Hill, many happy memories! We were able to take our Grand Nephew... To say it was right after a hurricane, it was great!

  • 3/5 D W L. 3 years ago on Google
This zoo is a bit overrated and the best thing about this place is that it is located in a beautiful neighborhood. Landscaping deserves a five star. Perhaps the smallest zoo that I’ve ever visited. I’m not a animal rights wacko nor did I expect a safari but these animals are way too restrictive. Still a great place to bring a family. Staff was wonderful.

  • 5/5 Steven C. 3 years ago on Google
Loads if fun. Dont go when its cold because all the animals are hiding or sleeping. But they have babies and also a huge array of animals.

  • 5/5 Frektane K. 3 years ago on Google
I'll preface this by acknowledging that we visited off season, and during covid times. The zoo appeared very well cared for, though with a handful of closed exhibits, including the reptile house, aviary, and butterfly garden. Its a bit of a smaller zoo - as 2 adults, we spent 2 hours here and saw everything available. The exhibits themselves were really unique, and included multispecies exhibits. All of the animals had beautiful coats and looked very comfortable. The decorating along the walking path were tailored to each highlighted environ and included great photo ops, with helpful educational displays. Would definitely recommend as a family activity, especially in the summer! Their "cool zoo" Waterpark was spacious, with a large, 4 row endangered species carousel. Great viewing heights for the animals, and duck feeding available at the water holes. Worth it for any animal lover!

  • 5/5 Victoria B. 3 years ago on Google

So due to covid a lot of things are closed (reptile house, birds, etc). The lack of people was quite nice and they do have a fantastic discount for members. It was my daughter's first time visiting a zoo and she had so much fun, she fell asleep in her stroller before we finished all of the exhibits! Her favorite one was surprisingly the swamp exhibit, but the primates were a close second. My granddaughter treat me to this visit! I hadn't been here in at least 30 years! We had a really good time! There was a lot to take in. Especially the animals! And I was happy that there were many people wearing masks. But there were some who weren't and that made me sad.

Delighted to be able to spend time with grandkids an see all the animals that were able to be out. My favorite was the baby cat.

Awesome place for kids, families, couples, and even going alone. We've been many times over the years and we still have a great time even tho it's basically the same zoo and animals. They've had a couple of bigger upgrades in recent years which made the experience a little better. Mainly the new elephant enclosure, the big guys have way more room now. We keep going back even after over 2 dozen visits, so it's really worth it.

Some things are not open on a cool winter day. Other than that it's a first class zoo.

Great and pleasingly calm, organized, and an overall nice experience for my visiting guests and it made me proud to share the AUDOBON ZOO with others. It's only one of the Institutes Exibits but for the space and time and visual pleasures its my personal favorite.

Alright, where as the Audubon Aquarium may be a bit lackluster, the zoo is amazing! Highly recommend it - well worth the money. Recommend you give yourself approximately three hours to see it all, maybe four if you really like to take your time or want to take in some of the shows.

Amazing place to visit. Hard to believe this is in New Orleans. Once in the park, you are transported to the area of the park such as Asia, etc. Food is obviously overpriced but not completely horrible. Masks mandatory inside but not outside. Must see location if in NOLA.

This is a great Zoo. Some of the exhibits were still being repaired after Hurricane Ida. We visited mid week so there were no crowds. A lot of the animals were also resting, I would assume from the excitement of Ida. The grounds are absolutely spectacular. The grounds personnel have worked tirelessly to get them perfect. This is a must see and experience.

I loved it!!!! you are really close up to the animals ,there is a place to eat and snack stands along the way its a large place you will be walking alot (not gonna lie i did get lost so i had to walk until i saw a worker to direct me out) there were a couple shows but they were not running cause it was pouring rain but i will definitely be going back just to go back here

Beautiful day at the zoo on September 23, 2021. Not a huge crowd. Most of the animals were somewhat out and about. I was disappointed that so much was closed. Many of the small concessions and a few other exhibits. The lady at the zoofari cafe was a bit rude and they barely had any food available.

Wonderful zoo! The aesthetic of this zoo and beautiful and the animals all seem well taken care of! The kids play areas around the zoo were awesome as well 😊

  • 5/5 Scott B. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent experience. All the animals are in well kept enclosures. Paths throughout the zoo are flat and level. Very nice, clean facilities. I would highly recommend the zoo to all.

We had a lot of fun here. There are a good variety of animals to see in various sections of the zoo. My favorites were the Asia area and the swamp area. They have the swamp decorated to look like the local terrain with alligators, shacks, boats, etc. It's a very nice looking zoo.

My favorite place in New Orleans. My family loves the zoo. Bring your walking shoes. Be ready to enjoy nature at its best.

Pretty good; it’s not huge but the enclosures are good and you can get great looks at the animals. The orangutans are the best, the baby and toddler age one are so cute. The big cats are great and easy to see, although the tiger could be closer and less hidden. Never really see the sun bear, once in our 8 or so trips. Wish there were some birds or prey, and that the rhino and other animals in that enclosure weren’t so very far away.

Word to the wise. Don't let Claude cut your hairTime to retire Claude. 11/13 long black hair resulting from Chemo, I go back to Clauses for TRIM. There are really good barbers here. Good place to get your cut. Just don't let Claude cut you hair. Jeeze He let me walk out like that. Cost me $15 more to get a cut I didn't want. Oh yeah, Claude gave much grief over my refund.

Tickets are spread out due to COVID which was nice since you weren't standing on other people trying to look at the same thing. Actually got to see the sea lions doing tricks for food. All the animals were lively and walking around their enclosures. Will be coming back.

The zoo was such a good spot to visit on my trip. I loved all the animals and nature walks. This zoo has lots of exhibits to offer so be aware it will take a few hours to see it all. The weather was humid of course but lots of the inside exhibits helped to cool off while enjoying more educational viewing. I can recommend!

To start out, I will qualify myself as saying that my wife and I are Zoo enthusiast and have been to 20+ zoos in the last 3 years. Our vacations are centered around Zoos so we are well traveled on what makes a good or bad Zoo. This Zoo is pretty spectacular. I would put it in the top 10. It is very well themed at almost a theme part level. Most of the exabits offer good viewing areas, and diverse animals. Not many Zoos have this variety of animals. I especially liked the diversity. I mean not many Zoos have raccoons next to alligators, bears and big Cats. Pros: Great diversity of animals Amazing educational signage Large Zoo area Good animal enclosures Cons: Food (Expensive and poor quality) No keeper talks or education (Might be due to covid or staffing issues) Some exhibits allowed animals to hide Inconsistent Path Signage

I have been to several Zoos in different countries.. this is the best Zoo I have ever been to so far ! They have animals that I haven’t encountered in any other zoo. I had a wonderful experience and I totally loved it. Expect to spend at least two hours there.

We came in with no expectations and we were pleasantly surprised! It’s a fantastic zoo. A really great experience for kids and adults alike. It’s very well laid out with helpful maps laid out strategically. A diverse group of animals which looks like are well cared here. Overall a really enjoyable experience and a great way to spend some time.

Great place to hang out and have some fun! Volunteer Fred was so talkative, and we spent a long time talking about snakes and our experiences with them! But whenever you go, be sure to have at least 4 hours in hand. I had to not take my time at every place because I had to catch a flight.

Hands down one of the best zoos that I have ever been too. The entire zoo is beautiful, and there is so much to see. The staff were friendly. Interesting fact, the zoo sits on land that was formerly a plantation.

I took advantage of the Military Appreciation Month discount and decided to spend a Friday morning here. We arrived right at opening but since a lot of people had the same idea (lol), I waited in the car until the line cleared. Prior to this, I last visited the Zoo in 2013 and figured I went on a bad day. This recent visit pretty much solidified my initial thoughts…this is not the best zoo. For all of the walking that we did, I did not feel there was much to show. There weren’t a lot of animals and most of the primates had their backs turned to the crowd. I get that they probably don’t like all the people, but I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m sooo thankful I got a discount because I would have been upset had I paid full price. It is worth mentioning that every staff member we came in contact with was super nice and helpful.

We don't go to a lot of zoos, and it was nice being able to actually see most of the animals. However, the decor and buildings all need to be updated. Most was weathered and torn or faded. I'm sure it's hard to keep up when they don't make Sea World type of money, but it feels like a lack of pride in their zoo. My kids enjoyed it and I was glad to see little playscapes sprinkled throughout to allow breaks for play. I did purchase the family membership because we plan to attend the aquarium too.

Great zoo! Good community programs and services. Clean manicured yards and a great selection of animals. I definitely appreciate that they walk the elephants at night throughout the zoo to allow them to stretch their legs! Make sure to find the swamp area! It's fun to watch the alligators get fed and the food is amazing!

Cool experience even if getting in is a pretty penny. The animals seem well cared for and were active, even when the heat was reaching into the upper 90s.

This was such a fun visit. We ended up wandering around in our ponchos while it rained. The zoo offered tickets for another day but we were flying out that day. The staff was friendly and took a group photo for us. I would say that this is a good relaxing stop during a New Orleans vacation.

I haven't been to a zoo in years! This one came very highly recommended! One of the best zoos I have ever been to. It reminds me of something out of Indiana Jones. Amazing!! I would definitely recommend this to kids and adults! We would definitely go again!!

Beautiful place, in the middle of this amazing but crazy city this park gives such a peaceful feeling

  • 5/5 Kyle G. 1 year ago on Google
Many of the birds were not out when we visited because of an ongoing bird flu concern. Weather was also colder for the area, so many animals were inside. Despite all of this, there were still many animals outside. It was also a treat seeing all of the little details throughout the zoo off the paths (both fun and informational signs, themed areas, bronze/metal animal sculptures, etc.). I had a really fun time watching the baby Orangutang. Overall it was worth the time and money to visit, even in the winter (early November). My 4 and 7 year old boys had a blast.

Zoos don’t help the planet they don’t help nature. Ottomans, he was one of the worst. The animals are simply. Lo for human consumption without care, or consideration of what would be their actual well-being. It makes you feel like you’re able to support ecological systems when actually you’re not. It’s a bunch of plastic. Getting rich people, rich, and keeping us separated from nature. It’s a delusion. Stay away.

What an unbelievable zoo. Such a beautiful place! Tons of animals up close. Giant old growth trees including the giant and magnificent Tree of Life. We spent four hours there and still didn't get to see all the animals. 55 bucks for two is a great deal. We didn't ride the train, but there is one that makes four major stops. I got a great collection of pictures and videos. Enjoy!

The New Orleans Zoo is always a good time. We had to dodge some patchy showers in between exhibits, but that just made it all the more fun!

We had a great time here! So much to see. Spent the day here right after we landed before we were able to check into our rental home. It was a cooler day so we just went and walked around. Loved the elephants and giraffes the best, but explored around 95% of the zoo. Friendly staff. We ate lunch there and I cannot remember the name of the restaurant, but it was good. Recommend taking a day and going. Kids would enjoy. Hopefully we can go back towards Halloween. I hear they have a “Boo at the Zoo” event. I think that sounds like it would be exciting to attend. Highly recommended.

The coolest zoo I’ve ever been to. The exhibits are well kept and have very imaginative enclosures. My favorite was the swamp area - it has a really sense of humor and whimsy to it. Picnic area is great. We don’t have kids but there are plenty of parks and interactive parts for kids. My only thing is I would advise anyone with fillings to stay away from the Roman Candy.

We enjoyed the zoo. I thought they could of had more animals but I'm comparing it to San Diego Zoo we went to last year. Zoos are always fun and we going during the summer so it's always blazing hot.

We had a wonderful experience here! So clean and beautiful. Staff is so friendly. We loved the bird and reptile rooms, and the fun facts about each animal! We took it pretty slow and we’re in and out within 2.5 hours so it was a great use of our day! Can’t wait to come again!

A new attraction (Birds) opened recently was awesome!! Clean well maintained zoo with unique animals.. the Orangutan, Gorilla was the top attraction. They have New Orleans swamp. Cute bear, Asian elephant, Tiger, Lion, birds and lot more.. A must see place with kids.. The train was super fun!!

They had some interesting animals. It is a very big park with a Waterpark. It took me about 2.5h actively walking to see all the exhibits. There were a few animals who were there and most of them were inside due to the heat. Lots of enclosures are dirty and seem to be forgotten about.

  • 3/5 Lily K Pisces L. 8 months ago on Google
It was nice, most felines were in their hiding places due to the extreme heat. Some exhibitions were temporarily closed. It was a disappointing visit for me, but anyone else might have better luck.
