Monsoon plays a great role in our daily life specially for us Rajasthani people. I have this habit of looking at weather forecast and it so happened that we were planning a trip to Bundi. I decided I was going to make a D tour from Tonk and visit Hathi Bhata near Kakod Fort. Next day early morning we left from Jaipur at 0600 Hrs taking the Jaipur Bundi Highway and drive about 100 kms to tonk. One has to slide left on highway as we approach a bridge in Tonk then take a left turn towards Nagar. Once you are closer to the Kakod Fort drive slow and you will notice a sign post saying “Hathi Bhata” on right hand side. Take that right turn and drive for about 01 km and you will see an iron gate … you have arrived at the site. The monolithic giant stands by himself in middle of nowhere on top of a rock. Look at the caparisoned elephant and you will notice “Karn Phool” flowers of ears.. also bells handing on both sides of his belly. The flowers on ears and bells symbolize “Royal or Temple Elephant”. In good old days it was a tradition that Royal / Temple elephants were respected.. the bells used to make people aware about his arrival. There are many legends around the monolithic giant which are as under: 01. Associated with exile period of Pandava’s of Mahabharat. 02. Built by Ramnath, a local chieftain in 1200 AD. It is a matter of research as nothing is clear. Locals offer prayers on daily basis and offer vermilion on trunk with diya and incense. Look carefully and you will see a brick structure where people cook and a little further a natural water cistern can be seen. People say that the water in cistern never dries up. Look in direction elephant is facing and you will notice plate like carvings on the rock where people used to eat in good old days after a yagna. Look in same direction and you will she a temple in distance … this temple is perched on top of a rock and I found my clue about why this elephant was built here. Haathi Bhata (Elephant Rock) a historical monument. It's megalithic structure which is carved by a single stone. Creators are unknown and yet to be the subject of research. A must visit place.

It is a protected monument. Carving of stone elephant. A crocodile carving and a small water body is the attraction. Morning and evening time is recommended for a visit. There is a mahadev temple nearby. Few things to be kept in mind while visiting this place. 1) no wash room around. 2) it is a part of the heritage of Indian culture so please don't litter🚯 around. Carved out of a single big stone, this elephant structure is a piece of marvellous sculptural art. Dated back to 1200, this place lacks amenities and infrastructure as government didn’t invested much there. Located 22km from tonk city, this place has the potential to be turned into a big thing. Overall a beautiful place to enjoy sunset there with family.

I visited too many times because it nearby me. While going there make sure u bring water with u because nearby no water facility and washroom also not there. And if u bring food there try to don't scatter latter nearby and don't forget to visit nearby mahadev temple on hill from their view amazing.

Natural sculpture of rock stone shapped like elephant, small historical tample and several rocks of 5 to 12 meter hight on which kids can climb and slide back and have fun

A mountain rock is carved as an Elephant. This place is 1 km off route from the National Highway between Tonk and Sawai Madhopur.

A medieval to ancient period rock cut sculpture. Origin is unknown but resembles the art of Bairath (Viratnagar) monuments. It is said that this place is related to pandava period. An elephant made out of single rock is worth watching and it is hardly few metres away from sawai madhopur - tonk highway. Worth visiting place if going towards Ranthambhore. Kakor fort is just front of it and it looks magnificent from kakor fort.

Now this site is under construction, but this site has pure air no pollution quite eco friendly place.

This site belongs to archeological survey of India (ASI). There is a pond that accomodate water through out year.

A definite yes if you are traveling from Tonk to sawaimadhopur or to Bundi. You will have to take a detour to see this rock cut monolithic structure carved out of an Rocky outcrop made in 12 century AD
