In
a
city
that
is
chaotic,
polluted,
and
seems
to
have
no
scruples
about
replacing
old
buildings
with
soulless
skyscrapers,
Baffa
House
stands
out
as
a
real
gem:
a
well
preserved
three-storey
apartment
located
in
a
quiet
street.
I
stayed
at
Baffa
House
for
a
week:
it’s
a
small,
family-run
B&B
in
Mar
Mikhael,
a
lively
neighbourhood
with
lots
of
bars
and
cafés.
The
breakfasts
deserve
particular
praise:
alongside
Lebanese
breakfast
staples
such
as
labneh,
manouché,
za’atar,
bulguary
cheese,
and
a
variety
of
homemade
jams,
something
different
was
served
every
day.
Samer,
the
owner,
was
welcoming
and
forthcoming
with
local
insights
and
practical
details.
Two
things
could
be
improved:
a)
better
bedside
reading
lights.
b)
Quite
pricey,
however
I
recognize
that
Beirut
is
an
expensive
city,
so
I
won’t
knock
off
a
point
for
this.
