Notre-Dame Auxiliatrice, popularly known as the Red Roof Chapel, is an absolute icon and a must-visit destination in Mauritius. Despite its popularity among tourists, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a serene ambiance during both of my visits. The chapel offers peaceful moments with its inviting benches, allowing visitors to sit and contemplate while enjoying the breathtaking sunsets. The tranquil atmosphere and the mesmerizing beauty of the surroundings make a visit to the Red Roof Chapel truly worthwhile, leaving a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to experience it.

Beautiful little church. We went to mass at 0930 on Sunday (always the best way to see a church). Mass was in French but you got the general idea and the hymns were on a projector. They opened up two areas for parking but I was glad to be on site early (0900) as it filled up fast. Local choir and music in the service was lovely and people were very welcoming of tourists. Service wasn’t long either. A couple renewed their vows at the start and we were still out the door in an hour.

The church's distinctive red roof makes it a tourist attraction. It's located near the beach, and some locals and tourists choose it as a venue for weddings. While it lacks historical significance, it's worth a stop if you have spare time. The church is situated at the north tip of Mauritius island.

Feb24- it's a red roofed church. Cool and serene inside. The clam shell motif and fixtures are lovely. No candles to light although a woman was clearing them Nice surrounds. Arrive early as it gets busy.

Beautiful building and well maintained. A bit difficult to find parking close by. Lots of tourists but not overcrowded. If you in the area it's well worth a visit. Beautiful photo opportunities

Located very close to Pereybere beach, it is a picturesque church with a little beach closeby and small street vendors, not really much else there. It is good for a short visit, and not far from Grand Baie either.

Nice place for a visit when on the island. Beautiful little wooden church in a great location near the sea. Also met a nice couple (fishermans) selling sea shells and jewelry for a great price. Wanted to support them since their situation hasn't been the best during the pandemic. Struggling and need to pay for they own vaccine.

This is supposed to be one of the top attractions in the north west of the island. The town is nothing special and this red church is pretty cool. They were even having an outdoor mass when we were visiting. However, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

The small chapel with the red gable roof and the village atmosphere of Cap Malheureux attract numerous visitors with their very special charm. From here you also have a great view of the uninhabited island of Coin de Mire, whose silhouette rises out of the sea 4 km away. By the way, there are several explanations as to why the dreamy place was given the name “Unlucky Cape”. The historical justification goes back to an event in 1810. The British army disembarked at Cap Malheureux on December 2nd to annex Mauritius from here. Just one day later, the French surrendered. Another explanation for the northern tip's ominous name is the numerous ship accidents that have occurred there.

A church to visit, located facing the Indian Ocean, its roof is red which gives it incredible charm. The interior is quite simple which gives it a lot of beauty...

A wonderful church with an incredible ocean backdrop fitting for the stunning island of Mauritius. There is a cute little bay here, but there are very few amenities. One for photographs whilst passing through

It has become famous thanks to its red tin roof and adorns many travel guides and posters. Inside it is kept very simple. The location on the bay of Grand Baie is unique, 50 m from the beach with a view of the Pacific, the white sand, the shimmering green and blue tones of the sea.

This is peaceful place which has beach at back. You can sit and do fishing. Gradient is even and can go till long inside.

The highlight was less the church than the lunch behind the church. You can choose the fish that was freshly caught and gutted on site. Highly Recommended!

Beautiful church. At the back of the church some vendors sell jewelry, shells and fish. There's also a small beach which is shallow water and good for kids to have a swim. It was quite busy during the time when we went there and it was hard to find parking as there's no proper parking area.

You should get there early because it's not that crowded. A very magical place Eating grilled food on the beach for lunch rounds off the visit. Unfortunately, the fish and chicken skewer were a bit dry, but the time spent waiting for it, sitting comfortably under a tree with a cool drink, was wonderful.

Lovely church. We couldn’t go in because there was a choir practicing but it only made the place more beautiful. The coast along is amazing too.

This beautiful chapel 💒 is at the centre top north of Mauritius. Amazing view peaceful place to visit. We have been twice to this place during our stay at MAURITIUS

Very quiet and tranquil church. Really a symbol of the north. When speaking to locals they told me it was built in memory of a ship wreck of the coast in the area. And that the alter is to be a boat shape to symbolise this. It has been refurbished in time since but worth going to great views and some great BBQ down to the sea front. Where there is fresh fish and lobster along with other food a real treat.

Beautiful church right on the coast. Great views out to Coin de Mire. When we were there a church service was going on so we couldn't go inside but it does look quite pretty. Walk out on the jetty and take photos from there looking back at the church. A photographer's dream.

There was a mass; full of cars around the church; but still available space in a badly maintained parking. Fisherman selling their catch of the day in a beautiful setting, right on the beach. Some also sell their artisans jewels & some sea shells. A short & sweet stop is a must!

The Red Roof Church is a Catholic Church facing the beach not so far from Pereybere. It's a beautiful building with a red roof as the name implies. The insides of the Church have long wooden benches separated into 2 rows along the length of the aisle. When we visited on a Sunday, the Church was empty, so we can't say if mass is held there or its just a tourist destination. But its beautiful regardless.

Beautiful sight. Lovely red roof church. Right by the beach and sea. Some little table stalls. Went on a private tour. Inside the church was serene. Not alot of parking. Islands can be seen in the distance. Quite busy when we were there.

Nice place to do a short stop when you’re on the road. Few parking places, so maybe better to find place a bit further. There is a small bay, ant the church, sometimes barbecue. You can buy fresh fish from locals.

Beautiful spot to visit very picturesque so don't forget your camera, the islands out to sea make the area look even more beautiful, but the reason why this church is here brings you back to reality of the harshness of the sea.
