A nice selection of sculptures in a garden setting. Be sure to turn right and continue the experience in the Company Gardens.

The most pedestrian unfriendly place on the globe. Bars and fences everywhere. Absolute priority given to cars. A horror to traverse.

Crossing the road at place d'armes in the morning is not an easy task even there is a policeman who guides the traffic. You can wait a very long time before being able to cross it may be as long as ten minutes. Peak time at this place is between 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. there are many vehicles entering the city centre mainly people working in offices. Place d'Armes has its name historically where in fact the French was occupying Mauritius and the military guys were protecting the historical government house.

Port Louis has a great town center. Designed during colonial times, there were canals to evacuate water from the mountains. Sadly, in more recent times, many of these waterways have been destroyed or amended poorly to make way for new buildings. The videos below show the result ! Mauritius is one of the most vulnerable places on earth to the effects of climate change. Unless drastic actions are taken now, flooding will only become more common and catastrophic.

Historic place at the entrance of Port Louis. Quite scenic with its majestic palm trees on both sides of the road. Place d'armes is also where all the main branches of the main banks in Mauritius are. It is within walking distance from the bazaar of Port Louis as well as many other important roads.

Amazing place, Nice garden with lots of greenery. History explained with Mr. Maurice's statue. Mauritius was named of him.

Place D"Armes was changed to PLACE SOOKDEO BISSOONDOYAL in the year 1977. This was proposed by the then MMM ruling party at the Municipality to honour the memory of the late Sookdeo Bissoondoyal who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly first time elected in 1948, participated in the Independence talk in UK and elected in 1967 and formed the Government which acceded this country to Independence. His party was The Independent Forward Block. The proposal to change the name from Place D"Armes to Place Sookdeo Bissoondoyal was made by Hon. Paul Berenger, the actual leader of opposition. The approved proposal was gazetted in the Government Cazette.

The main point of Port Louis, if you like the hustle and bustle then it's a nice place to visit. Take a few photos and then move on.
