The food is great and the kayak tour in the river is quite the experience. Also the tents and their platforms are nice. But there are many downsides as well: - close proximity to a busy road -> noise - proximity to a mosque -> prayer calls day and night - an insane amount of barking dogs at night - place seems a bit rundown - subpar hygiene (huge icebox where everybody gets in touch with meltwater with your dirty hands, tables not cleaned, mugs and glasses must be cleaned by the guests - some just don‘t seem to know how to do this) - subpar safety measures (no handrails, slippery and steep paths, archery target points towards a path, loose paving tiles) - stinking garden dump right next to badminton field (in bad shape, rackets almost broken, shuttle very old) Why is he so nitpicky, you might ask yourself. It‘s because we paid a whopping 400€ for two nights, a couple of meals and some drinks and self service in all you do. We paid less than that for 5* hotels of the same size that served us and had a lot of staff assigned to the guests.

The community at Otentic is wonderful, all the people who stay and work there are great. We stayed for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed every day, every meal and every evening. There is something wonderful about taking a shower in the fresh air but still enjoying your privacy. Lots of activities and transport included so great for families. The food was second to none with a great selection of curries, skewers, fresh fruit. The owner is full of brilliant stories and tips to enjoying this island, all of which can be enjoyed by campfire or with a glass of rum.

A unique vibe in Mauritius. The freshest, tastiest, home-cooked real Mauritian food. You'll find visitors and Mauritians alike here, taking in one of the last bits of lush tropical forest on the island. Bats & macaques to be seen. Paddling up to the waterfall is great.

Nice experience for a short stay of 2 nights. Staff is friendly, meals if you book on top are delicious. Kayaking to waterfall and trip to Ile aux Cerfs is a must do. Tents are no longer brand-new and there is self-service at the tables. All in all the price is a little bit too high compared for the value you get and compared with other accomodations we stayed during our trip in Mauritius.

Very nice place. Beautiful, comfortable rooms ; very friendly staff and amazing location on the river, with lots of great activities. Meals are very good (even if very expensive). The only downside is the camp is very close to the road / we expected a more remote and less noisy location. But overall a very nice experience.

What an absolutely incredible experience. Please, know that if you come to the east side of Mauritius you MUST spend at least a couple days here. I don’t even know where to begin, to be honest. I believe this is what would be considered as “glamping”. Wooden houses, surrounded by nature, with a semi open bathroom in each tent. They have everything you could ever need for an exceptional stay: delicious food, free kayaks and mountain bikes, darts, volleyball, archery, a pool, and the list goes on. Breakfast is included and it’s, you guessed it, super yummy. Rooms are spacious and with one double bed and three individuals, so its also perfect for families. Activities are included, such as a trip to Ile Aux Cerfs. Staff is wonderful. The frogs and the birds and the dogs are wonderful. I loved loved loved every minute of it and I wish i could have stayed longer. To be honest, for what they offer it’s not expensive at all, quite the opposite. Please see the pictures to have an idea of how the surroundings are. One of the best accommodations i’ve ever been in.

Extraordinary accommodation!!! Small paradise with the friendliest people and best food. Yes it's a bit on the expensive site, but with the free activities and the great food quality it's well worth it. Julien really build a special place there with so many little details. The snorkeling tour was definitely a highlight!

One of my absolute favourite places in Mauritius, I come here every time I visit and it never disappoints. If you like sleeping in nature, the tree tents are great and really comfortable (more like “glamping”, each with their fully equipped bathroom)! There is a common area with a pool, an bar, the staff is extremely friendly and there is always an open fire, great with or without children. There is a day tour on Île aux Cerf, then you will taste probably the best creole buffet on the island (the food is truly amazing). Highly highly recommend !

Our stay at Otentic was an amazing experience and we would definitely stay there again. The safari tents are super nice and give you the feeling of being in the middle of nature. The food from breakfast to dinner was excellent, very tasty local cuisine. They also offer a lot of free activities like taxi boat to the island, canoe to the waterfall etc.

Great stay if you want to experience glamping. The camp is next to the river where you can take the camp’s kayak (for free) to the GSRE waterfalls. They also offer you a free return boat ride to the island of Ile Aux Cerfs. The meals vary daily and they were really flavorsome. Overall it’s very laid back vibe with friendly hosts.

Very nice concept, I will maybe redo it once with friends but not more. In my opinion could be much better with small details. A proper welcoming speech and area, checking on the customers from time to time, a checkout, soft drinks...

It was a great experience. I like this concept of rustic but comfy life. The beds were nice and the tent was clean. The staff was very friendly, especially the ladies who managed the kitchen and food. We were served classic Mauritian breakfast, and the dinner was generous portion, and their crab soup was delicious. Their special rums were delicious. I loved the Ananas flambé one. There are so many quiet places to hang out by the river or in nature. You have a half day tour to îlesThey aux Cerfs by the slowest speed boat ever. They also have many activities (Pétanque, archery, cooking lessons, bikes, kayaks) to keep you busy. One thing i wish would improve is the lack of entertainment in the evening, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. But we had a wonderful time.

We came over for lunch and kayaking to the waterfalls and what a wonderful experience! Really relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and welcoming staff. The lunch was really delicious and well worth it! I can strongly recommend to stay there or just go for a day!

We are a family of 5 and we stayed at Otentic 4 nights! We couldn’t be happier with our stay. The place is very homy, the personnel is extremely friendly and competent and there are only 12 tents… so is not very crowded! We recommend the dinner at Otentic as well… they prepare delicious snacks, fantastic soup and incredible main dishes! Otentic also offers something unique. Every day at 9:30 you get to jump on a boat (included) that navigates towards one of the most spectacular beaches of Mauritius: île aux Cerfs. The way to island will also leave you speechless, the crystalline shallow water doesn’t seem to end… come and experience it! There are 2 ways to get back to the hotel, with the free boat back at 12:30 or by paying 50 euros more and going with a private boat to explore other parts of the island and the coral reef. We did both! Additionally, Otentic has kayaks to go to the nearby Waterfall, and volleyball, petanca, badminton and beach tennis courts. Impossible to get bored! Finally, If you decide to come to Otentic during new year’s, you will be able to enjoy a fantastic celebration at the île de Cerfs just in front of the 4 seasons Hotel… (They have a fantastic display of fireworks that are perfectly seen from our dinner/celebration spot). The party will be followed by fantastic live show event with local singers! We truly recommend it! 😊 (You might be wondering if there are a lot of bugs… We didn’t have much problems with them! Obviously there are some but nothing impossible to bear. At around 4:30am if you are not a heavy sleeper you might also listen to the calling of the nearby mosque… that’s all!)

We felt very lucky to have been able to book 2 nights at the last minute during a peak period - our stay in Mauritius would not have been the same without Otentic! We found the accommodation so clean and comfortable and the food was some of the best we had on the island, especially the lunches. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the entire experience was relaxed and fun. There are games & sports for kids, books, kayaks, bikes and we took a snorkelling trip which was excellent. I highly recommend Otentic, we are a couple with an 11 year old son and it was perfect for us but I noticed all ages staying at the same time and everyone was enjoying the experience just as much. I wish we could have stayed longer!

"Experience" is a fitting word to describe what this place is all about. If you are an adventurer, definitely this place is for you! There is a river besides the restaurant leading to a waterfall, which you can go to on kayak. One night stay was not enough for the amount of adventures to go on.

What a wonderful place! This is the most beautiful, relaxing, intimate, tasty, peaceful place I could imagine on this island. This is really authentic. We even didn't miss the ocean...It was hard to leave. We take you with us in our hearts. 💞 Thanks to the wonderful otentic team! Alex, Philippe, the whole kitchen team! You are doing an amazing job. You do it with passion and love. We will never forget the wonderful evenings at the fireplace, listening to guitars and voices. Care for your sweetest little dogs. We were close to take them with us 😉. For upcoming guests: Some earplugs can be useful during the night...🐕🐕🐦🐦🐦🕊🕊🕊🕌🚚🛻🚙🚗🛵 😘.

We chose the Day Pass and did not stay for the night. The place is beautiful and carefully designed - you can see they put a lot of work into it. There are multiple little "touches" that make the place feel special (hand-written signs, a wish tree, a notebook to put your ordered drinks into). There are plenty of activities to enjoy - we went for kayaking in a canyon that led to a small but somewhat beautiful waterfall with monkeys entertaining visitors on a riverside. The food they served for lunch was very tasty and there were lots of options to choose from. Certainly, a place to come back to!

Nice place ! How this place is supposed to be eco, I would expect the food to be vegetarian (easiest way to reduce carbon footprint is stopping eating meat)

We had a great stay at Otentic! Welcoming and chill atmosphere, especially for a group, and friendly staff. We liked the offer of activities (kayaking, stand-up paddling, Ile aux Cerfs). I would criticize that vegetarian meal options are only on-demand and for the same price as the meat/fish.

I'm little late with my review, the memory from my stay at the Otentic Eco Tent keeps being alive, I have a feeling of longing to come back. The place and the people running it live up to the name, I felt like being a part of a community where everybody is respected and included. The owner greeted me by himself and showed the place which he's constantly creating and improving. If you prefer honest service and ecological approach over luxurious treatments, you'll find yourself feeling home. I was lucky to experience a music event with local performers and enthusiastically participating guests of Otentic. It made my last night unforgettable. Additionally, I was honoured to find myself for a couple of nights at the Otentic branch in the mountains, visited a local permaculture farm, explored my interest. I'm really grateful for a generous welcoming. Food is very yummy, I collected a recipe which was shared with me by a chef :) They run cooking classes and you can take a boat to Île aux Cerfs with no extra cost or swim on a kayak down the river. A place with a big heart.
