Lovely beach location with a village within 10 minutes walk. The swimming pool was being refurbished during our stay but is probably up and running now. The Chef team should be congratulated for excellent food and presentation.

We have stayed at dozens of hotels around the Southern Hemisphere and this colonial-style hotel stands out for its unique tropical setting within a marvellously laid beach surrounded by a blue lagoon sea. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences, except for one incident at the diving center on our last days (beware, don't carry any cash with you when going on the boat). The sophisticated selection of food every day, the staff was very hospitable and always there for every need of ours. Unforgettable enjoyment of a spectacular sea view over breakfast was indeed a perfect place to start our adventurous journey around this Paradise Island. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Mauritius.

Shocking non existent service . I tried to re instate my bookings after it was cancelled due to covid having already paid for it . I re booked my airline tickets but waiting for the hotel to confirm I lost my flights .I tried calling reservations over and over again but to no avail.In fact I tried for 3 to 4 days .Nanthanielle in reservations is more than useless.So the next step was to get hold of the GM.I tried calling numerous times BUT ONCE AGAIN NOBODY WOULD PUT ME THROUGH TO HIM .So the next step was to get his email address.None of the staff could give me the GM"s email address.HOW AMAZING . I managed to get it by finding him on Linkedin and sent him a message to which he responded . I spoke to him requesting his email to which I sent him my banking details for the refund of my money . Well to date he has not responded . HOW PATHETIC. I run a company that has successfully been in business for 101 years (4 Generations) and if I had to treat my clients in this sloppy manner I certainly would not have a business today.

The location is far, the food buffet wasn’t good, the other restaurant in the plantation is overpriced for the quality of the food ,There is no bottle or sealed drinking water. the room looks old, not sound proof, they put two bed together so when we sleep in the middle it wasn’t comfortable. Not a five star quality as we were expecting. Most of the property was empty most of the rooms was not occupied. And you feel isolated.

We stayed at the Four Seasons but our son completed his diving course at the dive school at the Residence. At 13 years old, we weren’t going to send him alone. On day 1, we bought breakfast at the Residence with our other 2 children while we waited for the oldest to complete his dive. On day 2, my husband, who was waiting for our son on the beach by the dive school, was approached by 2 security staff and a hotel staff member and demanded to pay 4000 Mauritian Rupees (approx £68) to wait on a sun lounger on an empty beach on a cloudy day, despite us having paid to use the dive school services. Sadly, we found the Residence to be harsh, unwelcoming and not somewhere we would recommend, despite the brilliant dive school team who could not be faulted.

Judging customer service,some will respect u and they treat u good and some with look to u as u sneak in in their house. We wanted to take a taxi to explore some part of the island and as per them u have to book in advance as u can't go same day.Whhch is not correct as the first time I visited mauritius were able to get a taxi and go around the island no need of booking or such a thing,but apparently they are connected and they wanted to get their profit out of it,and the stuff should get some customer service classes and learn how to treat and talk to customers.

Absolutely perfect. Will definitely come back. It'd be hard to share all the great things about this hotel but I'll try. We were there me, my wife and our 4 months old baby girl. The beach and the pool: Both are amazing. We are beach people and if you are looking for white sands and turquoise calm water (there's a natural reef blocking the waves) this place is for you. The pool is beautiful as well. There are plenty of beach beds and shade in all the areas although the hotel was not full. The service: Probably the best I've had in any hotel and I've been to many. We don't normally require much attention from the staff but as we had a baby with us, we required a bit more help and the hotel delivered above and beyond. Some examples, help getting a high quality nanny, getting us more nappies in the size we needed, sterilizing baby stuff, helping us set beds and shade for the baby on the beach or the pool quietly and letting the baby sleep and essentially anything we needed. It made it so much easier for new parents like us. It's clear that the quality of service in this hotel is top of mind. One of the things we loved was that although you get a great service all the time, you are not expected to carry cash and to tip all the time which could make the experience annoying IMO. It's perfectly acceptable to tip in the end and this is what we chose to do. The room: Was super specious, clean and everything was high quality. We had the beach front suite which was perfect. As our flight was late on the last day, we moved to a normal room for a few hours. The normal rooms are significantly smaller than the suite of course but it would have been enough for us without the baby. The food: One of the best I've had in hotels. The plantation is a bit fancier but the quality in both restaurants was very high. You also get shows in the evening in the main restaurant. We had a full board which means you get a 3 course meal for lunch as well which was. bit much for us. It also means that you spend a lot of time in the restaurant instead of on the beach for example. I think that half board and ordering small stuff for lunch is what we'll do next time. Covid-19 related safety: Most people in Mauritius are double vaccinated (one of the highest % in the world). The staff wear masks all the time and everything is cleaned all the time. Everyone, including the guests is asked to be tested every few days which really increased our confidence in doing things. Water activity: The hotel has a lot of things included in the fee like water skiing, boats hire and wind surfing. They also have a diving center in the hotel (costs extra of course) which was great for us as we love to dive. Thanks Michel for being an awesome guide! Downsides: Not a lot. The main thing which I would change is the requirement to wear a shirt for dinner. It's a beach resort and some nights were hot. Don't see why not allow coming with T shirts. Bottom line, we loved it so much and will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

My family spent the day at resort. Food listed on menu card variety was superb! & tasty meals. We had a warm welcome by Rahul (Bell Boy) and Keven. Jenita at Kids club was great! Our lunch at The Plantation was marvellous! Meals were amazing. Radhoa & Kooshal ensured service to its perfection. Definitely will come back to try its Lamb Chops :)

Amazing experience, beautiful view, and great staff. Only downside is that it can be a bit far from the south (which has main attractions) but if you don’t mind the one hour/two hour drive then it shouldn’t be an issue. Transportation and tours can be arranged by the hotel which was convient.

The hotel is superb! Our room 252 has wc and shower in our own private hallway that leads to a reception room with a balcony, sofa and tv. Our bedroom has a big bathroom with a bath, shower and dressing table area. Bedroom also has a study corner and of course another balcony. Witb the room comes 2 butlers. One for a day and then another for the night time. Service was excellent! Friendly! Professional. I would come back if I was to stay south east of the island again.

Always ample sun beds, on the beach, under the palm trees, by the pools or in the adults only area. Mainly couples but a great kids club for younger kids and an excellent choice of water sports. If you like a grown a up drink I strongly recommend you consider the all inclusive option (check prices and do the sums, which goes for every hotel I have stayed at on Mauritius. Don’t forget water and soft drinks all add up.

A one of the most beautiful hotel with nice services. Beautiful and very well decorated spacious room and the rooms come with butler’s in two shifts, very careful to details and to assist you timely when you need. Super friendly and attentive staffs. Especially Ms Mina, Ms Sabrina and Keven at the concierge helped us with everything we need for exploring the island. Thank you all staffs.. The hotel guests enjoy the larges beach on the side of the island. The landscape shows a lot care for plants and local vegetation. The restaurants they have good menu choices, and the dishes have high cooking quality and also presentation.

Nice resort with good facilities , pools gym sauna and steam room. Rooms are good if you stayed in upper floors so you can actually have a balcony for the same price of ground floor rooms. Restaurant food is good with variety in food buffet.

Attractive and great location on beach. We have come in rainy season but even so the rain has been excessive to the Mauritians which is limiting what we do. This hotel is comfortable and the food is pretty good. We are on all inclusive which I'd recommend if you like a few drinks but slightly misleading as about 50% of drinks on offer are not included and not all food but we have ate well. Most of the staff are lovely with one or 2 grumpy exceptions.

We went for Residence as we have stayed at their other chain hotels. This one is quite old so unless you like old hotels you may find this hotel a bit outdated. The staff were very good. They looked after us really well. They went out of their way for the kids. Which was a plus point for us. Food was quite good and a good portion size. The dinner buffet was really nice with something for everyone. The thing that let them down is drinks prices. Soft drinks were inflated almost 5-6× Overall a great place to stay. Be prepared to pay a bit for the drinks

100% the 5 star experience. We ended out 10 day holiday in Mauritius in The Residence and it was incredible. Every member of staff went above and beyond the expected, the food was incredible (especially as it was predominantly buffet) and the location was ideal. it's not cheap, but in this case you certainly get what you pay for. After having issues with a number of hotels in Mauritius, The Residence was a breath of fresh air and I can't recommend it enough.

I visited this hotel during my first trip to Mauritius and it was my very first holiday as a family (with a 7 month old baby). The staff are excellent and have a lot of CLEAN & GOOD QUALITY high chairs available for meal times. Lots of pools available and most are baby friendly Private beach is arguably best in the area They have a big spa area which is great! Staff (and other Mauritians) love babies and some asked to hold baby (which I don't mind at all) but is worth considering if you don't feel comfortable.

We were not hotel guests but my pregnant friend wanted to lie down on one of the free beach beds as she prefers a soft surface due to her pregnancy. According to reception, it is only possible for a payment of 4000 rupees for a "day package" After I explained that she just wanted to lie down and not use any other services, the management said that there were supposedly no more sun beds available.... Are you serious? You are refusing to allow a pregnant woman to lie down on one of the many free sun beds?

I have been fortunate to be able to stay in many hotels over the years in many locations. From the moment I first started interacting with staff from this hotel (Bhavna and Mitesh) my experience with The Residence continues to be more amazing each time. The service is the best I have experienced from any hotel and the staff are, in one word "incredible". Nothing is too much trouble and the service is exemplary with a genuine friendly manner. You are always made to feel that you are special and treated like a King. I would highly recommend this hotel where the staff make each moment of your stay special. I will definitely be returning again.

Wonderful hotel at the Belle Mare sandy beach, adjacent to the burned down LUX Belle Mare hotel. The LUX is currently under construction, however we were never bothered by the work there. All the rooms are very large and clean, with a huge bathroom including a bath, shower, and a walk-in closet. The housekeeping stuff (our main maid was Aartee) were nothing short of amazing, and were adjusting their arrival time (twice a day) to our time out of the room, bringing fresh water bottles and always asking how they can further help. We took the half-board option, which was wise, as there is really no good alternative close by. On the other hand, with a large breakfast and dinner, we found there was really no need to go for the FB/AI option. The food is excellent, with a very large variety of options, including vegetarian ones, and a menu theme changing every day. We really loved the fact that there were fresh vegetables in every meal, something we deeply miss in most hotels in the US and Europe. Our only reservations were that water is strangely not included in dinner (while it is at breakfast, in the room and by the pool), and that the process of ordering drinks at dinner was messy, resulting in duplicate bills that needed to be sorted out at check out. Not a huge deal though, as the reception stuff were very helpful. We also took the opportunity to try some of the complimentary water activities at the Yacht Club, including snorkeling and waterskiing. The reef is not in par with the Maldives, but it was great fun. The concierge was also great, providing good suggestions for sightseeing, as well as arranging tours like a catamaran cruise to Île aux Cerfs. The resort also has a large and very well equipped gym, the Sanctuary Spa with wonderful massages, and the a-la-carte Plantation restaurant, with more refined food.

Not the best time of year on the East Coast for water skiing/wake boarding due to tides and choppiness of the water but this is standard. Soft white sand beaches and multiple pools. Shop could be a lot bigger with more space given to showcase products with maybe more boutique/artisanal/books/cool local brands. The gardens by the rooms could do with some technical. Saying that overall a very pleasant stay and hopefully will be back one day!
